Since JP brought back the classic US Amps heatsink look, it would be cool if he also brought back classic sink links to make two or more amplifiers look like one single long chassis.

Sorry to say that im just now finding your channel.. i was a big basshead from mid 80's through the 90's . Now having a mercedes sl550 ive been researching the heck out of everything and these amo dyno's have helped tremendously.. Being out of the scene a good bit , i bought a couple of Blaupunkt amps.. i was like damn these should be so much louder. Saw your dyno lol.. man was i pizzed off...But anyway , your efforts are appreciated and very helpful
I love your microphone. When the music is playing I cannot tell that the music is playing through your microphone vs just directly on youtube. I use Klipsch stereo speakers with a sub on my pc.
QUESTION: If amp gain is set using a test tone to zero clipping, but shows light clipping while playing music loud; does that mean the gain is too high? Is that the difference between certified and dynamic? Amp in quest is the Rockford Fosgate R2-500X4 with clipping light.
As for better caps, they could make it a special/limited edition of 250 or 500 units. I dunno how much better it'd make an amp in this power range but it'd certainly be interesting to do a head-to-head. (D4S might have an arangement with their supplier that doesn't allow this subisturtion or makes it prohibitively costly) I suspect you'd need to do more than just a brute force output power test. Fidelity in, versus Fidelity out, dunno what test equipment that'd require though so perhaps it isn't a practical showdown.
Better caps? A great video would be to take an amp (this JP amp would be a good candidate) and recap with high-end caps such as Nichicon or something similar. Then re-run the dyno tests and see if power or distortion specs change. There’s some work to do on selecting the correct replacement caps. Once you pull the stock caps it would be good to analyze them out of circuit for basic characteristics such as ESR. Same for the high quality replacements. Then solder in the replacements and run the dyno tests. I’m happy to help where I can (I’m a EE but not a good one, mostly do software these days because $$$) and can support with tools if needed. If you aren’t comfortable with the recap work, a local repair tech can knock it out in minutes for little coin, just bring him/her the board and caps.
@@wal I'm no audio engineer. But one thing I've noticed as far as caps go is that companies like to use generic model power caps even if they use a higher quality brand. I'm curious what would happen if they were to replace the stock caps with an actual Audio Cap like a Nichicon Fine-Gold or something from the likes of ELNA or RubyTubes. Experimenting with with high quality audio caps is always fun. :)
the problem with these cheap caps is they can and have gone bad faster then they should and therefore would make a good amp a paper weight in short time
@@NightshiftCustom the bigger problem (IMO) is the fact they are available to OEM's only and we don't know (unless we pull them and test) if they meet their ratings. This in no way is a D4S issue as many big mfg's use these OEM caps as well.
In the signal path you really need to move past electrolytic caps if you want to go for sound quality. If you are gonna upgrade and spend loads of money, do it properly.
Big d. Man I wish you had some kind of searchable index of all the amp Dyno videos. I would love to search for 4chn amps and really see back to back the ones you've tested
Samyoung caps are actually decent. The company (Samyoung Electronics) is run by Nippon Chemi-Con and has two manufacturing locations, one in Korea and one over at China (excluding Chemi-Con). The caps are pretty much identical, series matching but with a different brand. Their selection probably isn't broad enough to satisfy this amp though. Otherwise, one hell of an amp!
I really enjoy your channel. Especially when you do old school amps. I prefer old school installs rather than today's bass heads. I like the hidden wires and amp looks. Also I prefer sound quality over windshield shattering bass.
The caps on most big brands are generic like these. For most they will never experience issues with them. Brands like Nichicon, Panasonic, Rubycon, etc. are used by techs and have lifespans of tens of years. You won't find these caps in virtually ANY amp under $2000 due to the added cost of integrating into the manufacturing process. My mention wasn't to say they are "bad", but simply a recommendation to make the amps even better than they already are 👌
Higher end caps aren't going to make any difference on the rail voltage. It's the signal path where caps will shine. Also remember, there is much more to a capacitor than a name. The specs are not the same on all caps. Nichicon and other manufacturers might not make a cap specific for the needs of a particular amp or other electronic devices.
Then you need to have deep pockets if you want branded caps. Probably cheaper to just upgrade them yourself to branded ones if they ever where to give you issues before you stop using the amp, which will probably will happen much earlier 👍
Back in the day, 80’s and 90’s, an amplifier with this type of power would have cost well over $1,000!!! I remember my old punch 150 amps were $500 each!
I would be very interested in you doing a write-up/video on the type of sound proofing (and overall setup) you have done on your Sequoia, as well as I'm sure others are interested in your other vehicles as well. I've had my Sequoia for about 2 years now, but I just recently bought myself a nice system and I'm not really looking forward to dealing with all the rattles of an 18-year-old vehicle. 😂😂👍
My JP 10.4 does not get warm. I tried to see how hot I could get it, 106°F was as hot as I could get it. My Orion HCCA 11000.1 gets a whole lot hotter.
Slapz Audio and Black Brick Audio Amplifiers are the exact same amplifiers because they both come from the same build house. I can order the same amplifiers and have my name engraved on them. Call them Russell 3k.
@@russellcrabtree6586 yes, but these are not made by the same company who makes those amps? You also won't see this power output layout on any other brand. D4S does custom models and in this case made in S. Korea
I enjoy my JP23 😮 it's bridged mono in the wife's mazda tribute going to 15 earthquake. Thought of trying it out on my soundstream splx...... yes the old school beast still lives. Lol 😊
So as always JP under promises and over delivers. God that current draw, holy cow! Definitely need an upgraded electrical and probably second battery to run this amp!!
Ummm taramps has had multi-color clipping indicator lights for ages brother the clip light turns orange for a soft clip and then goes red when you're in a hard clip scenario same bulb...
@THELIFEOFPRICE Maybe build a Sound Quality line that includes high end caps and filters. Obviously, prices would reflect better internals but it would be a great option!
As consumers we have known Nichicons to be superior caps for decades but I wonder if we need to accept the possibility of other brands approaching existing standards. Is there any data out there that Capxcons are significantly less reliable? We now accept Korean build houses to be trusted so maybe we need trust them in their sourcing for amps in this price range. I’ve had Nichicons in Eclipse amps fail in the past while the Capxcons in my 5 plus year old Skar in daily commute use are still fine.
lol this sounds good on my computer speakers... but what about people watching on laptop or phone ? minidsp 2x4, polk in wall 6 inch component set on new old school receiver/amp, svs 400 watt 12 sealed.
Is the bass knob Bluetooth or does it have to be linked directly to the amp I recall some of his knobs just needing a power supply and not strapped directly to the amplifier itself
I think someone smarter than me can say why, but I'm sure that increasing the quality of capacitors leads to lower distortion. Just like having cooler running resistors etc can lower Johnson-Nyquist noise. I was looking into mods people have done to my DAC and the highest measurable results. Although its funny I have old Alpine amps (T757, 1505 etc) with busted open Nichicon caps but the other caps inside are fine, while I have so many different "cheaper" amps that use these special low profile Chinese caps and none have popped their top on me yet
The issue with putting in supposedly better caps is that most people buy amps based on power and price. If someone else sells a more powerful amp for the same price or less then a lot of people are going to buy that amp thinking it is a better value. In part because most people have no idea what quality parts are. Then again, simply because we have an opinion about one brand versus another doesn't mean we're always right. Is Nichicon always better or is that simply the only name of a brand appreciated for quality that you happen to know? Do we have evidence that Yuscon is always worse or that there is a functional and meaningful difference in their caps that could be heard and appreciated in the noisy world of car audio. As enthusiasts we often assume our desire and passions are shared by everyone but that is almost never the case. If an amp lasts ten years regardless of the brand of caps within it then to most what difference does it make if it doesn't allow them more power for their dollar? And if, say, Kenwood is doing it or ROckford and you have to price your amp fifty dollars more because of the caps you use you will not sell many people into car audio on higher quality when known name brands feel that lower cost caps are just fine. Maybe D4S should do like Kenwood or JL and offer this regular line amp and a pro line like the the Excelon or Slash series with better components, better specs and a better warranty.
Two 4ohm woofers in paralel gives a 2 ohm load on the amp. Both would recieve half the power then ofcourse. Or four 8ohm woofers. Or double spool woofers can give you 2 ohms as wel. There are calculaters online.
It wouldn't cost more than $15-20 per amp for quality caps, taking bulk purchase into consideration. Outside of the caps, everything else in the amp is also going to be lowest common denominator. Hence why similar bic lighters don't last.
Since JP brought back the classic US Amps heatsink look, it would be cool if he also brought back classic sink links to make two or more amplifiers look like one single long chassis.

Saw your dyno lol.. man was i pizzed off...But anyway , your efforts are appreciated and very helpful
We live and learn
Yeah, blaupunkt aint what it used to be anymore sadly enough.
I love your microphone. When the music is playing I cannot tell that the music is playing through your microphone vs just directly on youtube. I use Klipsch stereo speakers with a sub on my pc.
I love your suggestion Big D. We should have a choice. Better caps for a long life. Thanks and I hope JP listens.
Ow i love watching when you test in dyno and excited to see inside the amp.
Always tune at your channel watching from Philippines sir.
QUESTION: If amp gain is set using a test tone to zero clipping, but shows light clipping while playing music loud; does that mean the gain is too high? Is that the difference between certified and dynamic? Amp in quest is the Rockford Fosgate R2-500X4 with clipping light.
Wow another awesome product from JP and Down4Sound
As for better caps, they could make it a special/limited edition of 250 or 500 units. I dunno how much better it'd make an amp in this power range but it'd certainly be interesting to do a head-to-head. (D4S might have an arangement with their supplier that doesn't allow this subisturtion or makes it prohibitively costly) I suspect you'd need to do more than just a brute force output power test. Fidelity in, versus Fidelity out, dunno what test equipment that'd require though so perhaps it isn't a practical showdown.
I couldn't fathom running that much power to my Highs and mids😳But for the ones who do 💯👊
I have no personal opinions on JP, but he seems to be killing the amp game. Agreed better caps and a dimmer for the remote would be a nice touch.
JP and his team are bringing out great products
We already started dimming the displays on the new runs of amps with the knobs 😊
@@THELIFEOFPRICE Do green or orange displays instead. :)
Oh orange and dim ftw!
I’ve thought about this and my feelings are it won’t add SQ or power, but could add to longevity
What's the name of the company that builds their amps??
Big d. Man I wish you had some kind of searchable index of all the amp Dyno videos. I would love to search for 4chn amps and really see back to back the ones you've tested
When i build a new system im really considering doing an all D4S setup.
Thanks for the feedback!
Just ordered a box and amp from them. Delivers tomorrow.
Absolute BEAST
It is a MONSTER and headroom for miles
😊
That amp is a beast... I see a ton of blown speakers in the future 😁
I was going to buy one until you mentioned it needs better caps. Thanks for the heads up
The caps on most big brands are generic like these. For most they will never experience issues with them. Brands like Nichicon, Panasonic, Rubycon, etc. are used by techs and have lifespans of tens of years. You won't find these caps in virtually ANY amp under $2000 due to the added cost of integrating into the manufacturing process. My mention wasn't to say they are "bad", but simply a recommendation to make the amps even better than they already are 👌
If anything happened you have warranty so don’t worry 😊
Higher end caps aren't going to make any difference on the rail voltage. It's the signal path where caps will shine. Also remember, there is much more to a capacitor than a name. The specs are not the same on all caps. Nichicon and other manufacturers might not make a cap specific for the needs of a particular amp or other electronic devices.
Then you need to have deep pockets if you want branded caps.
Probably cheaper to just upgrade them yourself to branded ones if they ever where to give you issues before you stop using the amp, which will probably will happen much earlier 👍
I'm looking at the jp95. Question is. Can you run the front channels at 4ohm and the sub channel at 2ohm? Thank you. Love your informative videos.
Nice test. Does anyone make components strong enough for this bad boy? Lol
Wow that is the most craziest 4 channel i've ever seen. Awesome
JL for the win on sound quality
Back in the day, 80’s and 90’s, an amplifier with this type of power would have cost well over $1,000!!! I remember my old punch 150 amps were $500 each!
Big D, I know you normally do dynos on Big amps but please do dyno on the jp3 I'm curious the different wattage on 1,2,4 ohms
Jp definitely listening you😊
Better caps next time 💯 🎉🎉
Man that amp is a beast
I would be very interested in you doing a write-up/video on the type of sound proofing (and overall setup) you have done on your Sequoia, as well as I'm sure others are interested in your other vehicles as well.
I've had my Sequoia for about 2 years now, but I just recently bought myself a nice system and I'm not really looking forward to dealing with all the rattles of an 18-year-old vehicle. 😂😂👍
Whats the dampening factor on these amps? Definitely need 105°c caps
My JP 10.4 does not get warm. I tried to see how hot I could get it, 106°F was as hot as I could get it. My Orion HCCA 11000.1 gets a whole lot hotter.
Teampie also uses the exact same bass knob. Same build house!
Not the same bass knob, maybe the same features tho
Slapz Audio and Black Brick Audio Amplifiers are the exact same amplifiers because they both come from the same build house. I can order the same amplifiers and have my name engraved on them. Call them Russell 3k.
@@russellcrabtree6586 yes, but these are not made by the same company who makes those amps? You also won't see this power output layout on any other brand. D4S does custom models and in this case made in S. Korea
I know JP amplifiers are exclusively made for him, but the knob was probably sourced by the build house to be used on JP amplifiers.
@@russellcrabtree6586 Oh, yes if you're referring to the knob itself. That is most likely the case.
Hoping JP drops his JP3 300 watt mono block amplifier soon.
That one looks super interesting 🤔
Supposed to be here this week if no delays happen 🙏🏻
@@THELIFEOFPRICE Awesome, thank you for the information JP. Can't wait to get a couple for myself.
Love your videos. They are on point and always relevant
Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@wal always a pleasure. Been a fan for a few years now. Your Definitely my favorite you tuber.
I enjoy my JP23 😮 it's bridged mono in the wife's mazda tribute going to 15 earthquake. Thought of trying it out on my soundstream splx...... yes the old school beast still lives. Lol 😊
Very nice as usual, thanks for the dyno vid big D!!
What are the good Caps and can they be changed out? I was thinking of soldering in good ones if I get this amp.
Wow, what a beast!
Legit numbers right there. 💯
D4s always underrate their amps tho
So as always JP under promises and over delivers. God that current draw, holy cow! Definitely need an upgraded electrical and probably second battery to run this amp!!
Yeah he’s really flexing his OG status in the car audio game & giving us one hell of a deal on great amplifier’s amongst other products.
Enouph power for the most and a clean design... in and outside.... not bad 4 a muscle maniac😎 👍🆙️
can you try a kenwood subwoofer?
Ummm taramps has had multi-color clipping indicator lights for ages brother the clip light turns orange for a soft clip and then goes red when you're in a hard clip scenario same bulb...
This amp is a beast 😮😮😮
That amp would make a great full system amp. Run front stage and subs rear fill off the deck.
Yeah just gotta be careful with that 600x2 on the front 😲. Lots of headroom and could kill most 2-way components
@@wal- There’s no way I would use two way speakers with that. Lots of component speakers though 👍
Way to powerful for fronts lol.
16 subwoofers though..........
at 2:00 Id like to have better QC for the freq adjustment on ch3/4... thats $249 quality, lol
@THELIFEOFPRICE Maybe build a Sound Quality line that includes high end caps and filters. Obviously, prices would reflect better internals but it would be a great option!
10:40. ALL CAPS JOE HERE TO RECAPP THE ENTIRE AMP WOULD BE $50 PER AMP. OR TO ONLY RECAPP THE LARGE CAPPS WOULD BE $25 PER AMP
Can I run 10 dead bounce midrange speakers with this amp? 😅
Thanks for the feedback 👌
Reminds me of Sherwood the side of all the adjustments
d4s putting in work! they are lessening my fosgate or nothing view...good job fellas 👍👍
These days, brand name is unfortunately irrelevant cause everybody cutting corners
About the sub, like how dose it work because I seen some with the screw holes under the surround
Down for sownd has been crushing it you 2 have changed the game!
💪🏽💪🏽
I wish they would put better caps I’m on my second JP 234
Kind of looks like the ppi logo with the lightning bolt. On the board.
lol this sounds good on my computer speakers... but what about people watching on laptop or phone ?
minidsp 2x4, polk in wall 6 inch component set on new old school receiver/amp, svs 400 watt 12 sealed.
They are missing out!
I wonder if its safe to use one side of the power inputs / as well as what would be its rated power
Maybe at 8 ohms stereo…but I’d say if you are buying this amp you should plan appropriately for the electrical required
@@wal interesting, maybe its better to plan for electrical first.
If it's in the price range of a Rockford power series. I'll go with the power any day twice on Sunday
We'll like to see another test of the Amp with lithium bank asap.
🙄
Sony XM-1ES ?? How good is it
Yessir 🔥
How it can handle 1kW heat?
Hey Buddy could you do a video of the best 2ohm speakers i cant never find some. or is there a way to connect 2 speakers to make it 2 ohms
Two 4ohm woofers in paralel gives a 2 ohm load on the amp. Both would recieve half the power then ofcourse.
Or four 8ohm woofers.
Or double spool woofers can give you 2 ohms as wel.
There are calculaters online.
Hell yeah! Very nice amp and love D4S
You should do a review on the kicker solo x 2023
Oh man hopefully soon!
I'd replace those low quality 85c caps with some better 105 caps...that's probably what puts it in the price point it's in
Hey do u think this amp would be good for a Mtx thunder 9500 ? I’m trying to find a amp that would make it hit harder.
Should have hooked it to the quad box...
I'm waiting for that L7X 😊
But can it handle Funky Pups?
Big D what sounds better the infinity Kapaa sub or the jl audio sub ???? I've noticed that you've used the infinity Kapaa sub for testing for a while.
This JL 10W7 is one of my favorite all around subs of all time
@Williston Audio Labs what do you think of the the infinity Kappa subs??? I think they are some of the best.
That is just mind blowing
Can you do a Crescendo BC-8K??????
It wouldn't cost more than $15-20 per amp for quality caps, taking bulk purchase into consideration. Outside of the caps, everything else in the amp is also going to be lowest common denominator. Hence why similar bic lighters don't last.
With music signal off and volume off, can someone tell me how much hiss you can hear coming through the mid range or tweeters? Thank you
