    Freeze dried Werther's soft caramels are delish! They need to be cut into thirds (at least) and they swell into spheres that are light and airy. We've tried several other candies because the process is so quick and simple...great gifts and fun for parties.

      It's that fun? I think that was sped up 10x normal? You can see it happen with the naked eye pretty easily! Candy is neat.

    Very cleaver gift. I liked your packaging and the fact that the sealer came with your freeze dryer😊

    That looks so fun! After freeze-drying them, it seems they're a bit like meringue cookies in texture - hard and crunchy outside, fluffy-crunchy inside, but disappears (melts) with added moisture. Thanks!

      It's really fun to watch the candy puff up! A lot of stuff just stays the same size and shape but a lot of candies do not! LOL

      No this is the first time I've talked about them I think! They are Japanese I think. A Lot like those fruit flavored Tootsie Rolls!

    Candy mode is nice. Is that new?

    • @SageandStoneHomestead
      @SageandStoneHomestead  8 месяцев назад +2

      The manual says you need the updated software for it, which is really easy to add with a memory card. Ours came with it but we haven't had ours even a year yet.

    Yum! Why does it heat up if it's a freeze dryer? You wouldn't be able to freeze dry chocolate? ❤❤❤

    • @SageandStoneHomestead
      @SageandStoneHomestead  8 месяцев назад +1

      They don't suggest you freeze dry chocolate but as an ingredient it should do okay. Most of the time it deep freezes and then turns on the vaccuum. In candy mode it heats up in order to make the gummy or taffy candy more elastic. If I wanted to dry something like chocolate chip cookies I could but I wouldn't put it in candy mode. So it would get super cold and then dry and the chocolate would not melt.

    ? What is the difference between a freeze dryer & a dehydrator ?
    Thank you. Love this video !

    • @SageandStoneHomestead
      @SageandStoneHomestead  8 месяцев назад +3

      The freeze dryer uses a vacuum chamber to suck all of the moisture from the food from the inside out while a dehydrator uses heat and fans to dry the food from the outside inward. Both are lovely and useful tools!

    Candy only needs a Zip Lock bag as it only lasts a week or so. Have you tryed Candy Corns ?or Jelly Beans? thanks-

    • @SageandStoneHomestead
      @SageandStoneHomestead  6 месяцев назад +1

      Freeze dried candy lasts much longer than a week when stored properly. I could see why a zip top bag would have it lasting only a week.

    • @rexhavoc2982
      @rexhavoc2982 6 месяцев назад +1

      My point was ,candy will be eaten and gone in a week, so why use a mylar bag.@@SageandStoneHomestead

    • @SageandStoneHomestead
      @SageandStoneHomestead  6 месяцев назад +1

      @@rexhavoc2982 oh, I guess that's possible but these particular ones were Christmas gifts. The whole freeze dryer worth will not be eaten in a week so mylar makes sense. You could keep a baggie of them out for the week but the rest really should be stored properly.
