    I burn a lot of things 🤣🤦🏻‍♀️…. I TRULY MEAN THIS WITH ALL MY HEART, THANK YOU FOR SHOWING YOUR HOME LIVED IN!!!! 🥰 Our home is lived in, not always “perfect”. It makes me feel like I’m failing when I see videos of people who have very busy lives and their houses are perfectly organized and cleaned. 😩 Thank you for everything you do

      Those people must have help. We all help around the farm but there’s almost no down time so once something is cleaned it gets messed up again fast!! I’ll always do RUclips this way because I could not do it otherwise. Too much work to put on a fake image haha

    Extra kefir grains are so versatile!
    •feed it to your garden
    •feed it to your compost
    •feed it to your animals (start with small amounts then build just like when you’re starting to drink it.
    •put it in smoothies
    •pulverize them in frozen treats such as ice cream and popsicles
    •share them with friends and family to help them make their own kefir.

    CONGRATULATIONS!! Your peppers look like a massive success!!! At no time could I ever comment on messing something up that I have tried to cook.😂 It happens to everyone at one time or another.     The ONLY reason I did a batch of tomatoes from the freezer is because I was running out of space. It ended up being the perfect amount to fill a roaster. ❤

      Flour and sugar!! We buy it in bulk and those are great for storing bulk quantities of those things that are actively being used. :)

    I am so proud of how far you’ve come with your cheese making. I think I’ve followed you for most of your RUclips time and your confidence seems to have grown by leaps and bounds.     Absolutely wonderful video, Heather! All the ways to preserve and also enjoy the things that come from your farm, so awesome. The pumpkin looked so yummy, and it made me tear up knowing this was your first one and you were hoping to JUST get one pumpkin way early in the season. Really like the idea of freeze drying yogurt to help extend its shelf life but also the idea of getting the consistency you want. Great tip on that! I'm one who would totally get distracted and burn the things too, lol. I have found I HAVE to set timers on my phone to help me remember (no sense of smell to smell anything burning lol). The roasted red peppers turned out beautifully, the tip about roasting whole and a bit lower - really worked great! Got me craving some 'corned' meat and sauerkraut hahaha - big family and friends meal looked delicious. 💚💚

      I tear up thinking about how I KNOW I will cry when all of the pumpkins are revealed one day!! Trying to not count my chickens before they hatch but it looks good out there in the pumpkin patch!!

    I am a cheesehead (born in Wisconsin) I love how easily you make all three cheeses. 🧀 I live in Germany and it is hard to find Colby or Cojack or Monterey Jack cheese . So I’m going to have to be adventurous and make my own !!!

    I think the browned peppers are perfect. Taking the skin off will leave the rest with a caramelized flavor.

      I went to peel the dark ones and there was nothing really under a lot of the brown. It's like the pepper cooked to nothing!

    Homemade corned beef, so good, my family likes this meat: I cooked in the slow cooker with potatoes onion, and cabbage, and it is so delicious.

    I don’t like canned sauerkraut from the store, but I do like my hubby’s fermented sauerkraut. All things about the fermented are better - the smell, the taste, and, a big important thing for me is the texture! Crunchy vs slimy.

      Heather, I love your videos. I am the exact opposite of you. I am not a homesteader nor garden grower or canner or freezer. I’ve been a nurse for 43 years and days off has often been spent working. But I just wanted to tell you I so enjoy your videos, it opens me up to world I would never get to see. And don’t apologize for the hard parts. The hard parts are what we need to see that shows your soft heart for your animals. What I like to do is find your latest video prop it up on my counter and listen to you while I do my dishes, your voice is very soothing, you explain things well and it shows how your family works together to make your life. Thank you once again for helping people like me have a glimpse into a homesteaders life.

    Best Pumpkin Bread Ever
    Wet:
    2 cups pumpkin purée
    2 cups white sugar
    1 cup brown sugar
    1/3 cup water
    4 eggs
    1 cup oil
    1 tablespoon vanilla
    Dry:
    2 tsp baking soda
    1 1/2 tsp salt
    1 tsp pumpkin spice
    *cinnamon cloves ginger nutmeg
    3 1/2 cups flour
    Optional:
    1 cup nuts
    1 cup raisins / cranberries
    Mix wet with dry ingredients
    Pour batter into greased and floured bread loaf pans (2-3) or into Muffin tins 24+
    Bake at 350° 55-75 min (muffins less time)
    Let cool and eat with butter or whipped cream.
    Cream cheese frosting also good !
    Freezes great.
    Bread can be sliced and used as French toast base with maple syrup.

      It’s more commonly eaten than beef worldwide :) and incredible!! You don’t have to eat it though, truly. It’s a great red meat option and way to manage unwanted bucklings

    If you don’t have any wrap to cover your bowl with, you can lay a plate over top of the bowl and it will hold the moisture in. I even marinade meat that way.

    I’m so glad you show your mistakes, as well as, to your successes. It’s part of normal preserving and cooking. I have 3 jars left of read beans starter for red beans and rice that were a big fail. We’ve eaten 3 but can’t make myself serve the other. The taste is fine but the texture is yuck. Lol Can’t wait for your ketchup making with Mrs. Wages. I wanted to try this but I don’t want to waste my tomatoes if I don’t know if it will taste good.Great job on the peppers. Practice makes perfect.

    I came across your channel about a week ago and im obsessed. You are a literal gem and i love that you dont just do one thing on your channel. The way you communicate things is AH-mazing! Love love love it so much! We're trying to get goats(dairy) for the first time so that's how i came across your videos ❤️ Also just watched your video about the whole keto/carnivore thing and it made me so sad that you had to address your body size and how it doesnt bother your husband because people feel the need to open their mouth about stuff that LITERALLY does not concern them!     I tried the yogurt drops for my grandkids but they were very crumbly. If you look at the store bought ones they have a gelatin in them

      Good information to know! Our kefir cubes were crumbly as well, I assumed because the starting product was pretty liquidy. I wonder how greek yogurt holds up?

      Yes and yes!! We use a mix of bones from our farm when we make broth and it definitely includes goat! The last time I canned ground goat meat it was cold pack and worked very well :)

    Hi Heather.
    I have a question for you. When I saw your packed chèvre freezer, I wondered how you would eat everything before it goes bad. So my question is : how do you manage to eat everything you preserve and make sure things are not forgotten somewhere ? If you have already treated the subject, can you redirect me to a video ?
    (I hadn't seen the end of the video when I typed my comment, I guess I have my answer 😂😂)

      I'm not super organized but truthfully it's not hard to go through some things. A lot of what you see in the door of the freezer is lard from the 3 pigs we had processed. We use lard instead of oil in a lot of recipes to include out bread recipe so it's about 1 of those containers every 10 days that gets used. We started with about 55llbs of lard last fall and this lard should last until we process pigs again :) the peppers I pulled from 2021 are not bad. Just forgotten lol

      We don’t have an abundance of apples yet :) the apples on the counter are from the local Amish store and we use those for fresh eating

    Hello heather! That pumpkin looked absolutely beautiful. I had a question. I think next season I want to try my hand at growing pumpkin for more the October season. What would you potentially suggest as a good time to start growing those to be decent hopefully by October. Im really eager to learn more with growing since its not too strenuous for me as a physically disabled person i keep my gardening close by and my daughter loves helping too. any info would be awesome! loved the video!

      I have 15 Dutch Fork Pie Pumpkin plants that I started in the middle of may here in Southwestern KY. Some of them are (obviously) turning orange now but there's a lot of green ones on the vines. We are harvesting in August but will have many more to harvest probably right up until the first frost which for us is around Oct 21 because the plants are still putting on blooms, they have fruits of all ages on them. Depending on how long you season is, may could be good timing, maybe through June but after that it's tight. I think you get more fruit if you plant earlier.

      Pet goats? I don't have pet goats. We have goats as livestock animals and yes that was one we grew here on the dinner table. :) Many of them their destiny is written before they are born. As an example my goat Margie is due to kid at the end of sept. Does will be kept, bucks will all be in the freezer as they are not needed.

    I find that when i am multitasking it helps to set a timer for approximately the time i need to check whatever. That way when the timer goes off, it at least makes you think........what was that for???

    I just did a small batch of 11 Sheppard peppers the way my Italian family have always done it. I roasted them on the grill and put them in the freezer for winter. Feel free to watch the short video up on my channel.

    I see you do a lot of freeze drying. Do you ever freeze dry your milk?

      I did last year! I almost never have a need to use it since we keep some animals in milk year round so I don't really freeze dry it anymore. I prefer to use excess to make butter and cheese :)

      I believe it's a texture concern. The skins are great in some applications! I bet the skins could be dehydrated and used as a powder :)

    I am a cheesehead (born in Wisconsin) I love how easily you make all three cheeses. 🧀 I live in Germany and it is hard to find Colby or Cojack or Monterey Jack cheese . So I’m going to have to be adventurous and make my own !!!

    Best Pumpkin Bread Ever
    Wet:
    2 cups pumpkin purée
    2 cups white sugar
    1 cup brown sugar
    1/3 cup water
    4 eggs
    1 cup oil
    1 tablespoon vanilla
    Dry:
    2 tsp baking soda
    1 1/2 tsp salt
    1 tsp pumpkin spice
    *cinnamon cloves ginger nutmeg
    3 1/2 cups flour
    Optional:
    1 cup nuts
    1 cup raisins / cranberries
    Mix wet with dry ingredients
    Pour batter into greased and floured bread loaf pans (2-3) or into Muffin tins 24+
    Bake at 350° 55-75 min (muffins less time)
    Let cool and eat with butter or whipped cream.
    Cream cheese frosting also good !
    Freezes great.
    Bread can be sliced and used as French toast base with maple syrup.
