We are so excited to finally get to freeze dry our foods! for those of you what have had freeze dried candy, what are your favorites?
Never had any but looks like I need to try!
York choc. Reisen’s, jolly ranchers, and Hichew soda pops.
When you were freeze drying them you set the temp to do candy mode, but then didn't turn the candy mode on when you started - so it took like 12+ hours, but if you had just done candy mode would have been much quicker. like 3-5 depending on how long you wanted to do them.

Our top candies freeze dried…sour skittles, caramel, fruit roll ups, peach gummy circles, and gummy sharks. Every 4-5 load is candy for the grandkids.

I think jolly ranchers and the nerd clusters are the best things to freeze dry

Those would probably make great fun gifts, maybe not the tooth-breakers.😂Last Christmas, my son was gifted a freeze dried, snowman shaped marshmallow pop and he had fun dipping in hot cocoa!

You should try the Big Hunk candy. Very good. Freeze the bar and then break it into pieces the freeze dry. Very good.

My biggest hesitation on the freeze dryer is the noise. We don’t have a basement and our house is only 1300SF, I feel like you would hear it in every room.
I think you are right they get to be pretty loud I wonder if I garage or something would work?
I have a Harvest Right medium FD. I don't think it is any louder than a window air conditioner. We set ours up in our front room and seldom notice it beyond that room.
I just got the medium FD, not a lot of noise. Tolerable at any rate.

How do you keep the candies from sticking together.
They are kept very dry and we don’t have much humidity so we don’t do anything special

Why does the candy need to be frozen first, though? I would think that simply heating it to that temperature under vacuum would be enough?
That is just what the machine does on its own. It automatically freezes it then what’s it up with a ton of pressure.
@@TheWyomingHomestead no. When you customize it you can turn the initial freeze off.
