Why don't you just switch out that 15a breaker and outlets to a 20a? You shouldn't have to pull new wire if the ROMEX is in good shape.
And Kim, try lining a wide-mouth, quart jar with your zip/Hefty bag so it stands up while you scrape the bowl into the bag. Also, the bags probably tell you the liquid capacity on the box.
I guess I dont see how making a 20-hour freeze-dry process a 2-day process by freezing separately first is a time saver. Maybe it's more of an issue of the capacity of your freeze dryer vs. your demand for its use.

Dollar Store sells small pans. I have 2 sizes, freeze my liquids in those, then combine them to fit the medium sized tray. That way I go through less ziploc/hefty bags, but accomplish the same thing. I usually do 1 lb in the smaller pan, and 1.5 lb in the larger, that way each tray gets 2.5 lb, and the whole freezer gets 10 lb. Just use a little wutter in the sink to dip the pan bottom in and the food will release easily from the pan after that.

I own one of these. Costed $3500. Worth every penny. Wish mine had 10 trays. They don’t make one. They really missed an opportunity not making it wifi with an app so my workaround was rigging up a dedicated web cam on the machine’s screen to monitor progress as the machine is in a room in the far corner of my basement to isolate the sound. I also have an extra set of trays and dedicated stand up deep freezer to have the next batch pre frozen and shorten overall batch times. My father has become the freeze dry tzar. He logs the “wet weight” minus the tare weight of the tray of the batch going in as well as the “dry weight” coming out to know how much water is needed to reconstitute. Either way, 8 out of 10 would still recommend. My chili recipe is second to none though.

I currently have the medium harvest right freeze dryer. I had an issue with a vacuum leak. It was not pulling down deep enough. And as soon as the vacuum pump would shut off within 1 hour, we were back to equalized pressure instead of holding a vacuum. It turns out the rubber ring on the front. Was touching the shelf rack that is removable on the inside because the shelf rack was not pushed back quite far enough. Also, there are rubber o-rings on the vacuum hose. On either end, you will need to lubricate these hoses with using vacuum pump oil about once every 50 uses. This will keep the o-ring moistened and keep the seal tight.
I absolutely love my freeze dryer.
You put the product in hit start. And walk away and come back and it's done.

You can still get the flat ziploc type bags in the dollar stores. I find that the bags that do not have that gusset in the bottom dry faster because one end is not fatter.

When I freeze dry my milk, or eggs, I just put the tray in the freezer first. I put it on the condenser side of my chest freezer so it’s level. I put a tray down, pour the liquid in, put a cover on, add another tray and repeat. Save your baggies for something else. 🧡 Lorie 😊
P.S. I checked on upgrading my 4 tray to a 5 tray and it’s $500 and something. Haven’t decided yet although my Harvest Right runs 24/7 so it might be worth it to increase my batches by 20% 🤷‍♀️

You can probably have a 5 tray system fabricated by a local person. that is a rip off for that price.

Lovew your hack. also, you can Buy tray seperators from Live Life Simple and use freeze the trays in the freezer. If you have doubl the trays needed then you can freeze one set and be freeze drying the second set.

I thought Harvest Right made it where you can add additional rack to the older models, which was nice they did that.

If you're putting away a lot of food, a 30-Quart All American pressure canner will run you appx $500 (or you can buy a whole bunch of smaller pressure canners to equal 30 quarts and spend more $), plus all of the jars and lids you need, and spend hours making brines and sauces to pour into your jars after you prep your food and put it in jars (and then you have to babysit the canner) this is hours of food preparation! Or, you could just buy a freeze dryer and let it do most of the work for you, without heating up your house and making you stay up half the night getting your jars out of a canner. It costs more initially, but will pay off in the time and effort that it saves you.

How much HEAT does a FD generate when running? Is it like a refrigerator? Can this be put in a covered outside area like a screened porch? Or will outdoor temps (summer, winter) affect the unit?

Harvestright definitely need some competition. Our Large model started to have an electrical fault shortly after it ran out of it's 1yr warranty. I contacted them and they told me they could troubleshoot it, but I first need to pay $45 and of course will need to purchase the parts once they diagnose the problem. I already told them exactly what it was doing so they knew the answer but just wanted to make extra cash. After some hunting around, I found their parts supplier in China and ordered some backup parts for just a few dollars online. Good tips for bagging the eggs and milk! Wondering if you could just unzip the bags after freezing them, then freeze-dry them with the end open and crush out the dried material from the bag so you can reuse them..
