Living Traditions Homestead is all about living a simple and sustainable way of life. We believe the world has gotten too “busy” and that people are missing out on many of the true blessings this world has to offer. We started as a small urban homestead in Gilbert, AZ and after the city grew up around us, decided it was time leave corporate America and take a big leap of faith by moving our family to the Missouri Ozarks.
We put out 2 new videos every week! Wednesday and Saturday. We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we give up the rat race and live simpler, more fulfilling life in the country.

Ordered mine today as a PawPaw who has 5 grandkids that will start receiving regular shipments of freeze dried snacks. Don’t plan on being here in 25 years but it’s nice to think that after God calls me home, there will be snacks available for kids, grandkids and great grandkids to enjoy from PawPaw.

A tip for if you store your foods in jars. You can actually vacuum seal your jars using the freeze dryer. Take the shelves out of the freeze dryer (carefully disconnect the wire) and place the jars in the empty chamber. (you can place one of the trays at the bottom to keep your jars from tipping) Tap the leaf inside the circle on the screen and it'll take you to a test screen. Close the door and turn on the vacuum alone. In 1 to 2 minutes your jar will be vacuumed sealed.

That's actually a great tip for people who could just barely afford a freeze drier and a food saver on top is just over budget. Like, yeah a freezedrier is over 2000 bucks, but an extra 200 bucks on top of that for something you can do just as easily without is just money wasted unless you need a HUGE throughput (but then you won't be buying just one freezedrier anyways)

Kevin, skip the jars for your hunting/camping stash: I put mine directly into baggies to which I add the water when ready to use and then ‘dunk’ them into hot water for 5 minutes. Additionally, before I head out I can add some fresh cheese if I want. Cut bag open, or eat out of the bag itself. Three benefits; no waste from what remains in the jar, no clean up, and no breakage. Easy peasy ziploc omelets.

    • @EvilSanta482

The problem isn't lack of food as we currently produce enough food worldwide to feed several billion more people then we currently have. It's the ability to pay for said food once it's produced. Producing food is a lot of work and costs money. I think it would be more productive to encourage people to learn how to garden and actually have one to help produce their own food. As well as encouraging people to learn about things like canning among other preservation techniques to have their own emergency store of food for disasters. Lastly freeze dryers aren't cheap and can easily set you back several thousand dollars for a home setup. Doing that on a wide scale would cost quite a bit of money as well given the scale that it would require.

Just the same as you wouldn't pay the mortgage of your neighbor if they find themselves underwater now would you? You cannot help anyone who first doesn't want to help themselves. The countries that would ultimately fit the bill have no obligation to fix problem that aren't theirs especially when that money could be used to fix problems in their own nations. The egg shells can be roasted and and used in the garden using a coffee grinder to powderized you can also make calcium pills using gel caps.

About how long and about at what temp do you roast them?

    • @Hitmangordo
      @Hitmangordo 3 года назад +1

@@bobbiejofouts1708 you can boil, microwave, roast enough they are dry so they will work in a coffee grinder. I would say roast about 350 for 10 minutes to kill e coli you don't want that in the garden or compost pile.

Yep and also just dry them on the counter or oven and breakup and give back to your chickens for calcium 🐔

For transportation such as hunting or camping or a road trip, I would place the freeze dried ingredients into the double seal baggies. That way you won't have glass jars to break. And you can still add water to mix in the baggie.

I’ve never seen a freeze dryer before and didn’t realize that it looks like a mini clothes dryer. It’s kind of cute

Freeze drying is something of which I know little but wanted to learn. I use a dehydrator, a lot, have made dried tomato paste, apples, bell peppers, even chicken jerky for my dog, and love the convenience of the reduced space required to store and the fresh taste when reconstituted. So, paused at 11:22 to make an observation, when freeze dried, the product is the same size! I really expected it to decrease in volume, but it didn't.! Will continue watching now and continue my comments. Stopped at 16:26. The eggs were a real surprise, the way they turned to powder once blended was amazing. Cannot do that with a dehydrator, well, I think you can't, not with eggs. May look into that! LOL... Okay, great information, looking forward to the next segment and the omelets! That was very impressive, the reconstituted eggs were like, well, beaten eggs, and the omelet and scrambled eggs turned out great. Funny, on a number of occasions when going camping, I have put scrambled eggs, onions, peppers and seasoning in a zippy bag, stored in the cooler for a readymade breakfast. Having freeze dried ingredients removes the need to keep cold. So, my take, the dehydrator is a great tool if you have plenty of dry storage space or have weight or cold issues for activities, i.e. camping and hiking. Great video! Learned a lot. And if I may say, you two are very sweet together and I really enjoy your content.

So much cheaper than a freeze dryer. $3000. Is way to much money.
      To make dehydrated eggs.
      Method
Crack eggs into a bowl. ...
Whisk the eggs very well, until fully blended and a little foamy.
Pour the eggs carefully into the fruit leather tray of the dehydrator, ensuring that the dehydrator is placed on a level surface.
Dehydrate eggs for 8-10 hours at 140 degrees, until fully dried and flaky.
You, can turn them into powdered eggs by placing them into a bleneder * the put them into a seal tight container.
