The reason I subbed to Eric in the first place was coming across a video of his where he posted a loss. That humility of his and his ability to turn games like this into teachable moments really earned my admiration. Plus he's so adorable when he's salty.
Wow :) That's me! First of all, sorry for the dirty flagging, and secondly I have to say that I prepared this line in Stafford and wanted to test how it is working against Eric!
@@leadnitrate2194 In fact, I was really lucky to find that! I didn't saw that in advance, and found it in the game because every other move was losing! I was actually thinking about Qxf8 and playing with two bishops first!

for all of you struggling against the line eric's opponent played with e5 d4 and Be3, a tricky move is c5 where most people will play c3, allowing cxd4 cxd4 and Bb4+ with a devastating attack, I recommend looking deeper with an engine

5:02 Rook takes pawn is a blunder isn't it? After bishop takes rook, white has threat of Rxe8 checkmate. Even if you trade a pair of rooks first, the threat is still valid. So you can't take queen bc of checkmate, and the bishop is protected so you would be a whole rook down. Someone please comment if I miss anything.
Yeah, looking at it now, it's loosing a rook for a bishop. However if bishop takes d4, and white takes bishop, rook takes rook i think is winning. But it depends on what white moves, rook takes pawn can work depending on white's move.
I enjoy watching your games and content. I really enjoy watching when people loose and take a minute to reflect on how they move and what to consider next time.
Hi Eric, one question...Stafford gambit...after 5) e4-e5, Nf6-e4 the White plays Qd1-e2 (is it the best move?) What's the best move for the Black in this position?
3:29 a better move would be to take the white queen with the bishop. White bishop takes black queen attacking the rook. Black bishop that took the queen takes the white bishop and checks white. If the pawn takes, you take it back with the black rook and it will be out of danger. If the pawn doesn't take and the white king moves out of check, then you take the pawn with your bishop attacking the white rook on g1. G1 rook takes g2 bishop. Then you bring your black rook to e2 protecting the bishop and out of danger.
10:21 i think you could have gone bishop D5 to protect your queen and take his queen, but i'm not that good so might miss something about this move lol
Black was the one who ran out of time. This means (to prevent forcing draw by running yourself out of time) White wins if they have the possibility for checkmate. It's fair to argue (With subjective common sense) that White *couldn't* checkmate, and thus, it'd be a draw.
5:09 opponent could have played 29. Ba7+ , trading away a bishop but winning a rook. (Yes, I was following along with an engine, and yes, I know this is rapid :-) )
I like Rosen and I love the Stafford and as a kinda beginner I find that the Stafford works enough times for it to be a lot of fun..but..flagging is sooo boring. Maybe I am just too old but I would actually rather lose than go through this...
Me binge watching all variations of Stafford gambit so I can learn Meannwhile Eric just keeps on making new variations but doesn't remember the correct line and still wins
I believe that this loss is the same thing that happened to Magnus Carlsen in one game when he ran out of time. According to FIDE rules, if it's possible to get mated with the pieces that are on the board, then it's a win for the opposing side. If black didn't have a pawn, then it would be a draw, but if black would place his king on a1, then he could get mated, so it's a win. I'm curious what would happen if white had two knights, and black would ran out of time, because in theory, black could get mated with tho knights if he wanted to
