Its sad that google can slap a thermometer in pixel 8 pro, which nobody wanted or asked for, but they are not interested to acomodate a SD card slot. These companies stripping away popular features like headphone jack or sd card slot, makes me look toward sony xperia 1 v. If sony promised 5years of software n security, i would buy it at any price at all. I ll buy one of these 3. Waiting for response. Thanx
Especially the software stuff.. they already ship the hardware. Why is video boost, Video night boost and photo pro mode locked to the pro even though the pixel 8 has all the hardware for it? It's just retarded..
@blackmanwhitesuit Apple does make the 15 Pro at a decent size. But it still isn't feature parity with the Pro Max which has a better telephoto lens. Seems they have a lot to learn about not gimping smol models, imagine an iPhone Mini Pro!
@@semijocular but people have become in with camera hardware and battery disparity. The Pixel's difference just seem arbitrary when both phones have the same chipset.
Apple still does that. It's just that you are looking for features in the wrong price range. You should compare the iphone pro models with the normal iphone as that is what is happening here. At least the share the same processor

Can’t agree with Mr Spurt; the differences between the 7 and 8 keep mounting for me. As usual, top notch review. I’m considering the 8pro as a spare phone and for photography. Used the Pixel 2, 3a, 4, 7a before and have always loved the camera feature. Probably the best in the market really. The new features intrigue me as well as the new AI features. Either that, or it’s just that Bay blue colour. It’s gorgeous.
I'm a little disappointed on various fronts as a long time Pixel owner. £999 for the Pro is really pushing it considering how little hardware upgrades there are. Still on the optical fingerprint sensor that works fine for some people but not a lot of others. No GN2 sensor despite hints, just the same old GN1. Gated applications and features. Same old modem too. My wife has a Flip 5 and we're both on the same carrier. Fairly regularly, she'll get a 5G signal while I'm struggling with the dreaded H+. Charging is still slow as all get out too. I'm also slightly miffed that Google are offering a higher trade-in value on a 5 year old iPhone than a 2 year old Pixel. Fruit fanboys aren't going to change phones.

Really really wanted to get the pixel 8, but I'll continue to wait with my Pixel 5
The price may go down but the trade in value of the 5 will fall. You may still be able to get the pro with the free pixel watch... Best deal you will likely get. If you don't want the watch you can probably sell it for 200 or 250, which, combined with the 300 trade in value is a great deal on the 8 pro

And, Google One's VPN connects to the fastest server, which is more often than not within the same country, so location trackers will know where you are, maybe a tad less accurate than without. I originally owned the Pixel 1 and then the Pixel 4, I'm excited to be updating to the Pixel 8 Pro today (supposed to be delivered at some point). I love how long these phones last for. My Pixel 1's battery failed so I went to the Pixel 4, which I have had since 2019. My Pixel 4 camera is just giving out + the battery is dying as well. The Pixel 8 Pro is going to have support for the next 7 years. Which I plan to keep the entire time.

Excellent review . I received mine yesterday and am truly amazed at the AI in the camera software, recreating backgroung folliage with such accuracy when you move a subject out the way!! Looking forward to seeing how it edits my videos over night in the coming week.
I just want to point out that the face unlock is actually more secure now (level 3) due to software upgrades which enables it to be used for app locks as well.
Great review as always, but what have google got to hide. Blocked Geekbench, oh dear. I think Google just don't want it's customers to buy any of it's products. As far as a single physical sim and no SD support, I am simply left speechless. These are all facts that would just put and has put the pixel phones completely off the table for me. Google are simply not listening to their customers needs. Keep up the good work uncle spurt.
Google haven't had SD card support in ANY pixel phone. Even the Nexus 5 devices didn't have it. I don't think they've ever had dual sim slots either. Dual sim and SD support are pretty niche requirements these days, much like a headphone jack. If you really need second sim support, you've got e-sim. I don't think it's Google not listening to their customers... most customers don't need/want either of those features any more.
@@Rivs5117 Yes I do and I buy phones which have the features that I want. I currently have the Motorola G100 which has everything I want with the only issue being the lack of significant android updates, which is a shame. I can confidently say you got something wrong there brother. Pixel 8's face unlock security level is up there with fingerprint sensors now. You can unlock your banking apps with face. 4:58
For potential buyers, note that the included cable is inexplicably only USB 2.0, (480 MBps) and the port on the Pixel 8's are USB 3.2 Gen 2 (40 GBps). I have had to order a proper cable to match the port on the phone I've pre-ordered. I'm not happy about this. I wonder why not one of the more than a dozen reviews I've watched has mentioned this?
Cable in the box is just for charging. Standard practice for manufacturers, Apple iPhone 15 is the same. You want a cable for fast data transfer, you have to buy a proper cable.
To sum it up: want a bigger, brighter screen with a better camera? Go Pro. If not just go with the regular 8 and save $300. I personally went with the pro because I do quite a bit of photography, and don't plan to upgrade for awhile, especially with the 7 year os upgrades.
Great video and presentation as always. I've opted for the 8 Pro (not received yet), upgrading from the pixel 6. Hoping it's worth the extra monthly cost. I'll be watching your other pixel 8 Pro related videos too. Thanks again!
I wish they'd do a pro in the smaller size. I have the P7P and I just want a smaller pro like iPhone. I have kind of got used to it but when I hold a smaller phone again I get shocked how big the pixel pros are. That said, 999 for the p8p seems too much even though it's only marginally more after tax is considered.
Exactly the same for me. Just doens't justify the upgrade from my 6 to be fair. Google have done nothing special to make me want the 8. Lets wait for the 9 :D

How would you compare the P8 (non-Pro) to the Zenfone 9? I replaced my P6 with the Z9 after your and MKBHD's reviews due to the P6 just feeling like a brick in my hands. With some hardware issues causing random reboots (that Asus was hardly helpful in dealing with) and other minor things, I'm considering replacing it with the P8, or holding out for the P9, if it's not worth making the change now.
I’m glad that Google fixed the problem with battery life and overheating of the smartphone, and according to tests, Tensor G3 energy efficiency is at the level of Apple A16 Bionic
As somone with a pixel 8 pro If you want the bigger screen, and resolution, extra camera tech, and battery go for the 8 pro. If not or you want to save some money there is absolutely nothing wrong with the 8 and most people will find it works perfect for them. On T-Mobile I got 800 off for going on the better plan with no trade in but the 8 is free. Plus the 8 has 120hz instead of the 90hz before for value I recommend the 8 all the way.
I watched several videos already, and was disappointed that nobody was giving any info about how well it handles actual games. But I knew you would. Glad your video is out, you're one of my favorite out there!
I've just taken an upgrade on my contract to a mid range phone Motorola Edge 40 but now considering to swap swap to pixel 8 it's only £10 extra over 2 years. Still kind of not sure but pixel 8 seems like a solid device with 7 years of updates.
I love my Pixel 5 so want an 8 due to the smaller size. But this pro promotion with free watch as opposed to 150 with the 8 makes impossible to justify only going for the 8 over the pro... Grr
Can you please do battery life tests with wifi OFF?!?! It would give a much more realistic idea of battery life. Battery life on wifi is meaningless in my opinion.
Thanks for this. From this my take is if coming new to Pixel and you want everything get the Pro otherwise the 8 is absolutely fine and 300 cheaper and definitely not an upgrade from a 7 or 6 of either model.

The screen of this phone can get very bright, but how is it on the lowest setting? Can you check the time at night or turning the phone on in the dark almost blind you?
This is a weird question.. I fall asleep listening to podcasts. Do alarms on Pixels play through the phone and headphones at the same time? That used to work on my Samsung, but since moved to iPhone and the alarm only plays through the phone speakes, even when headphones are connected. Very annoying.
I've got my 8 ordered to replace my 7, but the lack of fast charging is very disappointing. I really miss that about my OnePlus devices, but they were just too big and I got tired of doing the hand yoga I had to do to use them.

The Pixel 8 Pro is going to have support for the next 7 years. Which I plan to keep the entire time.
Yeah same here I ordered the 8 but was sent the 8 Pro so then i decided to just keep the Pro also my pixel 4a 5G still going strong and with the free software update to Android 14, nearly 4 years out of a phone is great but it's still going! so it a perfect back up or second phone
Excellent review . I received mine yesterday and am truly amazed at the AI in the camera software, recreating backgroung folliage with such accuracy when you move a subject out the way!!
Looking forward to seeing how it edits my videos over night in the coming week.
It's addictive, right? Can't stop fooling around with photos, feels like a super easy cheat version of Photoshop
@@TechSpurtAbruti
I just want to point out that the face unlock is actually more secure now (level 3) due to software upgrades which enables it to be used for app locks as well.
Cheers, a very good point!
So does it detect a photograph? Or even holding a video of your face on another phone in front of it?
@@High.on.Life_DnB those fail
Yes indeed. You can use banking apps with the face unlock now. It is a first in the Android world.
LOL, Tech Spurt is always based with those anime wallpapers.
My pixel 6 is performing well with android 14. I think i will change it for the pixel 8 next october when they launch the 9.
Hazel all the way. If the battery is decent, I may choose it over the 5 V.
how do you think it stacks up against the Xiaomi 13TPro, trying to decide
Great review as always, but what have google got to hide. Blocked Geekbench, oh dear. I think Google just don't want it's customers to buy any of it's products. As far as a single physical sim and no SD support, I am simply left speechless. These are all facts that would just put and has put the pixel phones completely off the table for me. Google are simply not listening to their customers needs. Keep up the good work uncle spurt.
Hi the Pixel supports both sim and an esim so possible to use two sims. As for Micro SD no flagship from Apple or Samsung have this either .
Do you even know what you're complaining about lol? Pixels do have an sim card slot and esim. Pixels never had SD card slot to begin with.
they still have both physical sim and esim but no microsd :(
@@Rivs5117 Yes I do and I buy phones which have the features that I want. I currently have the Motorola G100 which has everything I want with the only issue being the lack of significant android updates, which is a shame. I can't really understand why anyone would want to pay more and get less. But that is simply my humble opinion.
I can confidently say you got something wrong there brother. Pixel 8's face unlock security level is up there with fingerprint sensors now. You can unlock your banking apps with face.

😅it's 00H57 here in South Africa and I'm watching Uncle spurt
For potential buyers, note that the included cable is inexplicably only USB 2.0, (480 MBps) and the port on the Pixel 8's are USB 3.2 Gen 2 (40 GBps). I have had to order a proper cable to match the port on the phone I've pre-ordered. I'm not happy about this. I wonder why not one of the more than a dozen reviews I've watched has mentioned this?
Cable in the box is just for charging. Standard practice for manufacturers, Apple iPhone 15 is the same. You want a cable for fast data transfer, you have to buy a proper cable.
Because camera is the most important thing on a phone these days I guess...
@@raphael9339 Thanks for the reply. This makes me appreciate even more the manufacturers who mark the speed on the ends of their cables.
To sum it up: want a bigger, brighter screen with a better camera? Go Pro. If not just go with the regular 8 and save $300. I personally went with the pro because I do quite a bit of photography, and don't plan to upgrade for awhile, especially with the 7 year os upgrades.
Don't buy it right away, wait for sales/exchange offer.
I totally agree with you ... I would have preferred a pixel 8 with all the functionality of the pro.
Well, gotta make our voice heard. That would be ideal to have a pixel 8, pixel 8 pro, and pixel 8 pro ultra/max
What's wrong with big phone
@@fighterinmkiwiscience3517 It's not easy to use them with one hand
Great initial review and love the humor! I would love the 8 pro but I'll stick with my 6 for a while.
Exactly the same for me. Just doens't justify the upgrade from my 6 to be fair. Google have done nothing special to make me want the 8. Lets wait for the 9 :D
Google pays $400 for a Pixel 6 pro trade in. $700 for Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel watch 2 isn't too shabby.
@@r000bie true, but I intend to get it later through my carrier but thanks for the heads up!

Hi mate, love your videos, always check out your channel when looking for new tech. Im due upgrade soon andni have oppo find x3 pro, iv been offered google pixel 8 pro as upgrade deal. Is this phone better than oppo or should i stick with oppo as know this is a decent mobile. Any advice much appreciated
Your reviews save my life 💪
I have one question, where do you get your wallpapers 😬
Great review, as always. I'm using a Pixel 4a now and decided to pass on the Pixel 8's. Going to wait until Christmas sale and pick up a 7a for a good price.
They added the temperature sensor so you could check the temperature of other people's phones and roast them for it 😂
Always an absolute hoot and a brilliant review as well. Getting the 8 pro anyway but always interested in your take on it bud, love ya😁
pixel 8 looks like a solid phone... think im gonna go with the s23 still though
Was waiting for your review before getting a p8, now I can safely get one 😂 will be upgrading from my beloved 4a. Seven years of upgrades and free earbuds to sell for a discount, yes please 😍
they look real good , G getting better and better
So it’s almost 8h of SoT without any second charge during the day ? It’s quite impressive !
Keep in mind that the battery life he claimed is almost certainly based on wifi which is mostly irrelevant.
That was only the video playback test
Too good to be true ahah thanks guys, I will de my expectations lower
Face unlock isnt really less secure this year. Upgraded AI algorithm makes it secure enough for banking.
I cannot wait to hold the Bay Blue pro 8 (512 gb) In my hands 😍, hopefully it arrives the end of next week.
That's a late upload! Cheers Spurt
I really want the bigger screen, but I don't know if the Pro gives enough extra for it's price point.
Well if you preorder it till the 16th of October you get the Pixel watch 2 or Pixel buds for free. I did and chose the watch, obviously!
@@BreikatAbdullah92 Good point and if you don't want the watch you can just sell it for some good cash back!
Buy a laptop or TV if you need a big screen. Its a phone geeze.
Just wait, there's gonna be some great deals available for the promo during the Black Friday deals
This seems to be the current trend, that prices are only going up
What a pile of Wank😢
@TherealVeedoCapone $100 a year? I wouldn't put it down to inflation
@TherealVeedoCapone Not here in Finland. And let the prices go up. I couldn't care less about those Pixels. And you earn more, but what about the people who don't Earn more. You may be richer, but the poor are getting poorer and poorer
@@railasvuo it is inflation lol. Do you not watch the news? Practically every central bank is either hiking rates or has a policy to curb rising inflation. That's been happening for over a year now.
@@aka1721 lol I can't put a $100 price increase per year on inflation. To the point of Google's greed, yes
Hi Chris the face unlock is more secure now and can be used to log onto things like banking apps.
Please make more of those quality small phones.
Another great comparison. Ridiculous they don't put auto focus on the selfie camera on both. 🤣
£300 for the Pro is far to much extra to pay for an already excellent Pixel 8!
If only the performance was anywhere close to the a16
All it's missing is the RAM management, efficiency, and performance of the A16...
Great phones, i would love to grab one but I will stick with my Pixel 6 pro until the Pixel 10 series
If you want a gaming phone don't go for pixel. Pixels aren't built for gaming it will get easily heat up within 30-40 mins of gameplay
@@indreams22 pro mode camera is there in new pixel 8 pro.
I took a drink every time Chris said the word Pixel and I'm so wasted now.
My Google pixel 8 pro in obsidian 512gb is arriving in two days, it's my early birthday gift and I'm so over the moon😭
I don't see anyone asking the real questions - where do you get your quintessential quintuplets wallpaper
Looking forward to hearing your testing about the front camera's autofocus on P8P, I use selfie cam the most to take group photos
Any news on the pixel 8a? I would love to see a bodget pixel blower.
I've just taken an upgrade on my contract to a mid range phone Motorola Edge 40 but now considering to swap swap to pixel 8 it's only £10 extra over 2 years. Still kind of not sure but pixel 8 seems like a solid device with 7 years of updates.
the chip in the edge 40 is not as good as pixel 8s
Definitely the pixel 8
And that's true. It only seems
Best review! Love from Goa, India 🇮🇳
Where do you get your wallpapers from?
Does it have over heating issues? I tend to use youtube for listening to music and use a music player app and i want to see if the phone will be ok
So is now a good time to wait and see if the 7 pro drops in price and buy that?
Yes. Yes.. unusual was the word i was looking for. Checking temperature huh.
This guy uses the best anime wallpaper
Saw Yotsuba stayed for phones
The temp sensor is great to check those overheating iPhones 🎉
Thanks for this. From this my take is if coming new to Pixel and you want everything get the Pro otherwise the 8 is absolutely fine and 300 cheaper and definitely not an upgrade from a 7 or 6 of either model.
Which cameras do you use for recording videos?
Is there any way to take 1:1 square photos on the stock camera app yet? I'd love a new pixel, but need that function for work
Where you get such nice wallpapers from?
When does it get released in the UK?
Already on amazon
Plz make a hands on comparison between xperia 1 V vs google 8 and samsung s23 ultra. Specially in terms of battery drain, stability, perfirmance, in hand feel and overall value. Pleaseeeeeee
Since when 23W is considered FAST CHARGING? 😂 THAT'S A SHAME
The screen of this phone can get very bright, but how is it on the lowest setting? Can you check the time at night or turning the phone on in the dark almost blind you?
Uncle Spurt is a Yotsuba stan and I'm devastated.
Wow that sound from speakers on both is awful! We will see about that battery life in a few months
Where do you get those wallpapers from😮
This is a weird question..
You will just smoke the battery faster if you charge too quickly. You are in a hurry for what? slow down and smell the roses.
