- Hey Hey Hey! This is The Fat Albert cartoon opening theme. Performed by Michael Gray (vocals), Kim Carnes (background vocals) and Michael Fournier (background vocals). This track was recorded in early 70's. Kim Carnes won the Grammy Awards with "Bette Davis Eyes" (1981).Thanks to gmcorrea for the info. The Cosby kids' names are Dumb Donald, Weird Harold, Russell, Bill, Bucky, Mush Mouth, and Rudy.
Still one of my favorite cartoons from childhood. I remember watching this back in the late 70's and early 80's.
I still love this cartoon
When I was a kid, I thought Bill Cosby threw that sign, and the Cosby Kids actually caught it!
Fat Albert was a wicked show. It takes me back to a good place in my life. A time of innocence.
This was the show!!!!! I LOVED the fights with that Rudy and Russell had because those zingers were on point and they did give wonderful life lessons. Kids today missed a treat!!!
At times I want to cry because kids now missed the golden age of cartoons. I remember FatAlbert, Superfriends, RomperRoom, SesameStreet and KidsStuff, Kidsbreak, 321contact. All of these shows ACTUALLY TAUGHT you stuff that you would use in school. Parents left you in front of tv and didnt have to worry of what was on. Funny thing is this was way before cable with fewer choices BUT we of that era seemed to have had a more rich period of child programming.
This is total 70's ... best time in history for saturday morning tv ...
this Cartoon with Bill Cosby was a favorite of mine , not only was the cartoon good but like Bill Said in the intro.."If your not carefull you may learn something before it's done" which is so true, cause it gave leasons in life for the kids to remember as they grew up..Bill Cosby is one great guy and comdian..
Bill Cosby is an amazing force of life, and at this time he was in his young career stride, post-I SPY and all the successful comedy albums, and before the COSBY SHOW of the 80's and 90's.
Still relevant and valuable to society despite personal tragedy and controversy, Bill is a renaissance man of the ages.
I watched this every saturday morning in the 70's and 80's. Good times.
I've seen the Christmas show Special about 7 years ago on NBC They say it was made before the full series of Fat Albert and Al Roker admitted that he hoped nobody saw that show in '69 when he was about 12 years old but they all did and started teasing him with it. I had a classmate who dressed like him everyday (no other clothes?) and didn't know it or forgot and didn't get why everybody would sing the Fat Albert song at him all the time. EVEN strangers on the street broke out with it at him!
Seeing this is bittersweet.... a time when life was simpler and more innocent. I am so glad I grew up in those days. I feel for kids today.
I just had the privilege of meeting Bill Cosby today here in Saskatoon before a stand-up show---a real nice person.
We were poor, played in a junkyard down the street, had friends that fit every character who went through the same life-issues as every episode, to the last detail. No other show on TV hit closer to home. Thank You!!!
Awesome!!! I used to love the opening theme... :)
By far the greatest cartoon show in my book !!HEY HEY HEY !
Definitely a great educational show. This was the first cartoon (that I know of anyways) to ever tackle the subject of VD. I was in the 7th grade and learned about VD from Fat Albert. Lol! Nowadays that would be taboo with all of PC and sensitive organizations our children have.
whenever I hit the studio this is the only thing I can think of. That damned bass line!
Those were the days - cartoons entertained back in the day, but also taught us something about such things as the dangers of smoking and underaged drinking, the effects of too much television watching, and accepting people for what they were. The 1970s were golden years for these kinds of cartoons - years that we might never get back unless TV networks find true innovators who want to entertain, rather than merely make a buck with mindless programming.
i borrowed that CD from a co-worker many years ago! I loved "Eep Op Ork" "Fat Albert" and "Hong Kong Phooey" covers!
That bass line at the top is kickin'!
Except I remember the intro where Bill's younger, skinnier and with a bigger 'fro.
Brings back some good memories. Thanks to whoever posted this.
This was a great cartoon.Fat Albert left one with a lesson to live by.I think kids today aren't getting that.
I loveeee this cartoon!! i still need to buy the complete series!
one of my favorite cartoons growing up.
Ah, now these were the days. Back when Saturday mornings MEANT something in this country. You'd get up, fix a big bowl of your favorite cereal and watch Fat Albert, the Super 7, Bugs Bunny, Star Blazers, etc. and parents could have 'quality time' and not have to worry about what Jr. was watching. Kids today wouldn't know what to do if their parents didn't get up and cater to them as if they were in a Golden Corral.
How did things get so far gone???
Man, this one takes me WAY back! Another timeless classic from my childhood!! 5 stars!!
yeah it is, some of these cats were based of childhood homies he had growing up in Philly. others were characters he created when performed stand up in the late 60's & early 70's.
I always loved the Fat Albert theme. It sounds a lot like a Sly & the Family Stone song.
wow! never noticed the change of paint color on his paintbrush btwn him and cartoon realm. and I certainly saw this show enough times as a kid.
this was worth getting up on Saturday mornings.
i saw this fat albert and the cosby kids on dvd. My dad watched a few episodes when he was a teen, and my mom has seen the fat albert and the cosby kids too.
I remember this when I was a kid. I had the privilege of meeting Bill Cosby last week before he did his stand-up comic routine-a real nice person---Chris
This cartoons were better back then. I miss the classics from Saturday mornings.
Although I was born in 1979, I remember watching the reruns during the 80s before I went to school. Also, I remember his finger used to scare me. lol
This brings back so many memories. Thanks for posting it.
Watched this every saturday when I was a kid, Bill Cosby is a genius.
There was a music CD called Saturday Morning Cartoons' Greatest Hits and a band called "Dig" covers this song too.
Greatest cartoon Intro of all times.
I ived across the Ben Franklin Bridge...these were worth getting up for.
use to watch this on fox, or what is now fox. They had great cartoons back in the 80s. Now it's all morning news shows for 4 hours straight.
This was the last cartoon I was see before going to play little league baseball. HEY HEY HEY! Where is my joint Beggin Benny?
I never watch Fat Albert before in my whole life.... bt my first Fat Albert was the movie in 2007 acated bt Kenan Thompson.... that's my very first Fat Albert...BILL COSBY IS MY FAVOURITE!! MY IDOL!!! MY HERO!!!!
you hit the nail on the head
just like the back of the bus, this cartoon was the last one on for saturday morning....but had the best intro song...
How awesome is the bass line in this song...
I agree. The 70's and 80's were awesome!! So many memories.
I use to watch this show every Saturday moring.
Na, Na, Na, Gonna have a good time! Man, I miss these old school cartoons!
HEY HEY HEY! I TOTALLY remember this.
Point of note on this show... it was based on Bill Cosby's childhood with his friends He also used his childhood friendships in his stand up comedy bits.
i cant help it if you remember things that are no older than a few years ago
Anyone ever find it funny how Fat Alberts hand encompasses the whole screen when he says I'm gonna sing a song for you? lol
I LOVE THIS!

Funny how our cartoons were so much better than nowadays:)
It's been years since I heard that!
I used to watch it when it was on YTV back in the day and now it's on Teletoon Retro and I can't get that station because it's only available through digital cable.

The good ole days
Nah, nah nah..gonna have a good time!!! Hell yeah!!! Saturday mornings back then were THE best!!!!!
Russell: "Rudy you're like school in summer".
Rudy: "School in summer?"
Russell: "Yeah - No Class"
Gang: "Ahhhh Haaaa"
Those were simple times....
The world was a better place back then.
Greatest cartoon intro ever!
Ahh the memories. Growing up in the 70's and 80's allowed us to cherish these cartoons before everybody got PC. Do you have any clips of "The Brown Hornet?"
lol. DumbDonald and Mushmouth ftw.
HEY HEY HEY!!!
HEY, HEY, HEY! They sure don't make cartoons like this, today.
if this aint throw back i dont know what is.
It's a new paintbrush : it's the Fat Albrush !!!!!
God Bless You, Bill Cosby.
Kim Carnes did the fat albert theme? Wow!
it's the 70's really....the 80's was when the show ended
Exactly, well said. You always were taught right and wrong after these episodes. Even the Superfriends taught us how to build lil projects to make at home. LOL
Nowadays cartoons are more about marketing toylines or gimmicks. WTF does Hannah Montana teach??
Fat Albert had no toys, it was a cartoon just to teach kids how to be a better person or not to join the wrong crowd.
OOOOOH YEAH, I REMEMBER THIS...... R I P GOOD CARTOONS
cool
The show was good but his standup where he told about Fat Alberts new car was awesome!
Hey I remember this...Classic!:-)
It actually was :)
The last episode of this I ever saw was about taking drugs- a white girl got involved with a pusher and was in traffic trying to fly. She was rescued by FA and the gang and turned the pusher in.
Man, that's retro.
RIP Micahel Gray.
This is one of the few Scheimer/Prescott things that actually worked and made sense.
And I sooooo totally agree...this was the GOOD OLD DAYS of Saturday mornings! Bugs Bunny/Road Runner, Cosby, and Froot Loops...WOOHOO! I'm an eight year old again! Today's Sat AM is too...dumbed down, educational and computerized GARBAGE!
I remember Fat Albert reruns as a kid, but cartoons these days are nothing but computer graphics.
awesomeway to paint xD haha.
this show was Bill Cosby his Brother russell and all their friends. Its a cartoon autobiography
Does anybody have the prime time Fat Albert cartoon that this series was based on? Where Fat Albert was about a block wide and he was a football player?
everything he makes is awesome isint it?
@bunnybooties actually, the term is horizontally expanding.
i love this filim, but my mum said it was a huge t.v. show when she was little, if its anything like the film, they should BRING IT BACK!!!!
They just dont make cartoons like the ones in the 1980s anymore
just brings me back to saturday mornings
Na Na Na gonna have a good time!!!!!!!!!!!
Does anybody have the Fat Albert Halloween special. I only seen it once when I was a kid.
It had that classic line "What can you get for .63 cent?"
