This looks like something new to Legend - not just "do better than autoresolve", but "don't lose to autoresolve".
And here I'm still not sure he didn't. While he did take less damage than auto-resolve, he also dealt significantly less damage than AR did with AR generally wiping out all units in all armies on the losing end. It's a completely impractical task for a player, but it's still a consideration.
There are definitely times where I auto resolve stuff just to guarantee I kill stuff outright. Having an army flee just outside my range to finish off is a pain in some situations. If there’s no immediate danger and you don’t mind taking extra time to replenish, it’s worth just auto resolving.
@@movingtarget12321 yes especially when its small stacks, because they tend to fully survive even on defeat (garrison battles) and its just annoying to have them back to full next turn, attacking again
i just had this once against vlad. i would have won auto resolve but i played it and lost so bad because vlad just didnt died XD
@@xiaoxiaoxiao4 he tends to do that a lot
Well a dwarf engineer helping Cathay is more lorefriendly that a skaven one..
If you still want the range increase with a good faction, it is possible. You need to get the legendary one from Markus Wulfhart, that one still has the old skill tree.
Maybe he's an EXILED ENGINEER, lol.
It's really not if you know youy Cathay/Skaven lore
@@virtualshark9203 yeah, clan Eshin and whatnot, but they are more stealthy ninja rats rather than shooty nerd-engineer rats.
@@virtualshark9203 Probably not in Miao Ying army. Maybe if they add the monkey king
Yeah as soon as you get a few Dragon Guard in a stack its insane how much it changes auto resolve odds. Which is probably fair because they kick some serious ass.
Yeah, same with Ice Guard for Kislev tbh. ROFL stomp time once you get those units.
Dragon Guard are sick!
@@BM-wf9uf Agreed, Tzarina Katarin's ice guard stack is stupidly strong and dirt cheap.
Legend usually in ratingyourdoomstack videos: Let's push this army to the limit to see how it does in not favourable position.
Legend in this video: Have to turn tryhard mode on and pray to perform better than autoresolve.
Holy crap, it is insane
"Ease of use" has to be a massive bonus for me. I love manual battles anyway, but I know far too many friends in TW games who just want to auto resolve, or simply don't know how to game the system in battles for the best results. Easy strong armies allow them to play difficult battles, and still learn. Or auto resolve when they can't yet.
social gamers prefer to chat instead of play the game, aim to push them to play else the more they press teh button the less theyre conditioned to play the game
@@spudastic I 100% push them to press the battle button. Even when the odds are in their favour. Because they're likely in a situation they'll need that army again in the next turn, and the less damaged it is the better. Across the TW franchise.
There are some games like Rome 2 I showed them the auto resolve works on entity numbers above all other stats.
I try to teach them everything about each game. The more they know, the more they can understand, and so the more they can use the games mechanics to their own advantage.
But an army that's easy to use in both circumstances, can keep people with short attention spans interested in the game if they just want to hit the auto resolve button most battles.
@@GrasshopperKelly Still tho, the game is about fun. Difference between pressing the button a couple of times and having fun saving army and also fighting with the army, but also if you are playing in coop chatting building army building bases and stuff is fun too. If you arent playing on the highest difficulty you dont need to know all the ins and outs, usually you can just play with whatever is funnest to you and with some decent strategy live and win
You mentioned flying units could be a problem. Then I remembered Miao ying can just go dragon form and deal with them herself
Well, she can only really feasibly deal with one at a time, so if the AI somehow gets really crafty bringing two or three fliers, they could use one to tie up the dragon, and the others to take out the artillery
Miao Ying can one lord domstack to some degree herself as well, so going without the artillery and hero support and just hiding the rest of your army until you're satisfied they can handle the remainder is what got me through my initial Cathay campaign's tightest spots. Great video as always Legend
Yep, both Miao Ying and and Zhao Ming are absolute units. I prefer Zhao a bit more but they are both amazing
Well until she has leveled up a bit. And depends on who she's fighting. She doesn't fare very well against dark elves and their AP missiles, at least not when she is low level.
"To some degree"
She's literally dethroned Malus Darkblade as the #1 One-Woman Doomstack.
Very worth remembering that the dragon guard crossbowman are also pretty damn decent melee fighters, which you do see a bit here when that hero slips into the back lines and promptly melts.
No one wants to talk about the true hero of this video: Leggendario

@@Sercotani Didn't expect to run into a SBFP reference here
i think he chose the dwarf engineer, because he starts out with immortal(because he's legendary) and its easier to get good relations with angrund. So while warlock engineer is better, dwarf engi is way easier to get
Man Imagine if Legend renamed the video to,
*"Miao Ying and her doomstack save Christmas,"*
Now THAT would be a Christmas gift! Merry Christmas everyone!! 🎅🏾👍🏾
Almost the exact army that led to my only campaign victory in Total War, and it was Realms of Chaos of all things (luck with Tzeentch's realm helped too). Usually get bored like 20 turns before victory lol, this army just carried so hard and is so fun to use despite being so basic.
Steam achievements are what motivates me to play until campaign victory. Which is why I really hope they'll add achievements for WH1 and WH2 races when they drop the 'beta' tag of Immortal Empires.
@@SereglothIV Mee too buddy, mee too. Although I have nearly all of them from the older games.
I don't think Legend noticed the stats on that Miao Ying, she was a bloody one-woman-doomstack all on her own. The celestial warriors were just icing on the cake.
The best part is that she has basically no good defeat traits, i think the only notable one i got her is Vilitch's.
I'm actually working on a one woman doomstack with her in a separate campaign, will send it to legend when it's done (waiting for the Bejeweled Dagger is a pain though)
@@JustSome462 awesome army, how did you get the dwarf hero?
@@zachmartin2957 It's an exploit, you request an army with a hero in it, then get it wounded, and then the game forgets its original faction and it becomes yours.
It's super easy to do with the Angrund heroes, just send a caravan to Mirmydens to discover Belegar, ally him, then request an army with the heroes and suicide it against Ikit/Aranessa, in this campaign i actually have all the Angrund legendary heroes.
For regular heroes it's a bit trickier, they need to either be lv 20 (so immortal) or they need to be wounded by an enemy agent (which is unreliable) but it's doable nonetheless.
"Let's jump to the ball here" - for me this is the part i was waiting for.

Something I find super handy with Cathay is just keeping a cheap infantry unit or cavalry in the backlines behind your artillery. Basically a final defense if anything gets into melee with them, and if nothing else they provide all your cannons with an easy Yin-Yang bonus without compromising your formation.
bro. imagine having both ariel and kroak in one army
How do you steal a hero?
How did he go about getting the doorf though? Or did I simply miss that in my post Christmas stupor.
To steal a hero you have to request an army with a hero, then get it wounded.
If the hero is immortal (the ancestor heroes are) you simply need to get them killed in battle, and bam, 5 turns later it's in your faction
You need to borrow a factions army that has the hero in it at lvl 20 and have it die before the army returns to the faction so it gets wound when you don't have there army it becomes yours, that is as far as I'm aware that is needed as I have yet to try this out
Right, that sounds like quite the faff but I'm defo gonna try that next campaign. 😁
Those Chaos armies were kinda bad though... Masses of marauders, dogs and trolls. Id like to see the auto resolve against more challenging armies.
my thoughts exactly
This army is better against single entities than against chaff. I fought a rite of primeval glory with Kroq-gar and it didn't do squat, the crossbows shredded the monsters.
Chaff like marauders and such is actually the bigger treath to them since they don't kill them as efficiently.
Just look at the keeper of secret, it's a SEM with physical resistance and a shield and it didn't even land an attack
Merry Xmas Legend you legend!
Well, those guards do have almost 100 melee defence and 60 attack.
0:27 who cares about ariel when you can get kroak
Merry Christmas everyone, if you celebrate it! :)
This is my go-to army as Miao Ying, but I prefer Sky-junks over other artillery units. And maybe add Astromancer or Alchemist for spell intensity (and some other buffs. And yes, I'm using both of them). It's just a very strong and decently balanced army, nothing more to say about it.
Alchemist for campaign movement, astromancer for his mount's bound spells, and both make Miao's talons spell delete bunched up infantry.
Yep. Miao, Alchemist, Astromancer, 4 Dragon Guard, 8 Dragon Crossbows, double Longmas and triple Sky Junk is my go to.
@@TiMANosaurusRex I don't bother with the longmas for the cathay LL lords. Went against high elves 2 armies with 1 lord on dragon, 4 dragons, 1 arcane phoenix, and 1 eagle and sent miao to kill all but 1 dragon which got shot to sh*t and the army took care of everything else. I definitely think sky junks are best choice. Dragon archers wipe out all other archers and lord and longmas wipe out the flying units and then position the sky junks and watch them wreck. Gotta love it
I also like the janks for rockets but I just get one. The cannons are the real mvp.
You know it's good when even Legend is surprised how good it is.
How do you get heroes from other factions?
How fucking terrifying is it gonna be when the Vampires figure out how to steal Kroak, and we end with skelly spam kroak doomstacks.
How do you get the engineer in your army?
The first time i beated a Legendary campaign on total war, was a mia ying on the realms of chaos, with a "similar" army, mio ying, one alchemist(for the campaign movement, 3 grand cannons, 1 sky junk, 4 infantry and 10 crossbowmen... That army was unstoppable.
the real question is if your inability to spell her name right is unstoppable
somehow, you managed to spell her name wrong TWICE in completely different ways.
@@dogborf7909 im from Argentina, the auto correction fights me everytime i try to write in English

i actually stole unintentionally ARIEL in an empire campaign
I borrowed an wood elf army and it was destroyed before the 10 turn ended. Ariel was still wounded at the end of the ten turn and when she recovered she was still my hero to control
MEN! LET'S GET TO THE 455K SUB MARK!
Damn good army to be sure, though when you talked about master engineers yeah they gutted them with the changes. I mean the warlock engineers are just...better, they give you magic which is always useful, they give you range which again always useful, they aren't a pain in the neck to get more of unlike master engineers, and they are okay enough in melee. They aren't suppose to be in there but they aren't squishy pure mage types so they can for a short time hold the line. More so if given good items...
Frankly range heroes are always meh to me. Range is good but 1 guy shooting and over killing a soldier at the cost of being pretty bad in melee does not make up for a hero that can just get stuck in a blob and hold off a few units to get shot up by a proper group of gunners/archers/crossbowmen
Merry Xmas to all you Legends :D
I didnt know you could steal heroes, but the Zhao Ming campaign i played was probably the most fun ive had in total war in a long time. His dragon bomb spell, i forget what its called lol that thing is so strong. Just send him alone at an army they jump his ass then you use the spell and just annihilate them. I was getting 1000+ kills per battle with him easy. Rarely had to use anything in my army other than him and the few artillery pieces to win most battles.
I think they should Nerf the amount of certain units you can have in each army like they did with Warriors of Chaos, where you have a limit of Daemonic units for each army. But not just for the player, but the AI too.
Cathay is so fun. Can't wait til they get DLC
With Yuan Bo you can fo this, but with stereoids. You want more and beater heroes? Yuan is THE best hero stealer. More ammo? You can get heaps by designating fortress cities. Want to spend less magic? Matters of state can reduce that by 20%.
And more.
Ying Miao.. the Dragon Queen Empressess Daughter of the Muun .. @legandoftotalwar.. did you try kidnapping felix and his dawi froend for your doomstack?
How can you have a hero from another faction?
Borrow a allys army with a hero you want to steal, but the hero needs to be immortal. Once the army is under your command you have to make sure that the hero dies and then the hero will stay with you forever.
hahahaha ,hearing Legend so surprised is cool !
Dude is anyone else still constantly getting the end turn crash? It's getting to the point where I'm about to drop Warhammer three and just go back to Warhammer 2 completely I can't get far into any campaign for Christ sake
Oh what a surprise, the skaven have another better thing than everyone else... engineers. Because of course they would have better engineers than dwarves who make helicopters. Better ranged units, better speed, better spells, better plague effect, better monsters, nukes, tons of deep strike. CA wasnt biased at all, whatsoever. Nope
How did Cathay end up with the Dwarf Ancestor? I am unaware of this mechanic.
Exploit cheese:
Step One: Military Alliance with the desired faction for the hero stealing.
Step Two: Get enough allegiance to temporarily control the army with the hero you want. Can't be attached to a legendary lord because of this.
Step Three: The hero you want to steal must be immortal.
Step Four: Get the hero killed. Once this happens, the game will respawn the hero outside of the allied army, meaning you don't have to give it back. You keep it even if that faction gets wiped out.
@@Avengedtenfold Lol. Nice!
@@Avengedtenfold Doesn't have to be immortal. Just have an AI agent wound it instead.
Steal belegors hero's is easy peasy due to the AI building weak armies with one in them and if done early enough it will have two.
Only turn 92 as well.
Cathay's growth is nuts, i recruited this army around turn 70, you have good base growth, the compass boosting it, and some landmarks boosting it too, hitting T5 is trivial
Any time I play Cathay: " XUE HUAAAA PIAO PIAO. BEI FENG XIAO XIAOOOOO. "

Anyone else notice the first shot from the cannon, knocked the giant on his ass?
Do the fire rain rockets get better auto-resolve value than the sky-junk?
yeah cathay over-estimates the power of the crossbows, even over better units. not sure why
guys how do you get an ancestor dwarf hero as non-dwarf race? pls help me i don't get it
How exactly to steal a hero? is it still possible in the current chaos dwarf update?
One thing to note about Cathayan artillery: the models are physically taller than most other artillery models, enough so that when they fire, they fire _over_ the heads of the infantry in front of them, well enough that if you place Cathayan artillery _directly_ behind a unit of infantry, they'll have line of sight to fire at will at targets around two formations or so in front of the line for cannons and a few more for fire rain rockets, which is surprisingly good. I personally favor great cannons for their wickedly good accuracy at long range, even though fire rain rockets are cooler.
Whaddaya mean are cooler? The sound the cannons make is out of this world. And yeah the cannons also deal a shitton more actual damage.

You have to borrow an army from your ally which has an immortal hero in it (level 20+ or a legendary hero). Then get that hero wounded in battle. After 5 turns he returns and is permanently assigned to your faction.

Also if you notice they almost always give heroic auto resolve for CDGC when you have the stack mostly made up of them look at the gates I get heroic auto resolves on the gates all the time with just garrison and its because I think the crossbows have biggest auto resolve weight in the game I've never seen anything else auto heroic so often

I've done this build before, but it's extremly boring. As Cathay I prefer to use short-range guns mix with cavalry to have some fun with micro
Well the enemy had mostly terrible units, so... I think you misjudged it a little bit based on that.
I'm a bit newish but how do you get a hero from another faction? I only thought you could recruit allied units and not heroes?
borrow an army from an ally with an immortal hero(legendary heros or heros that are at least level 20) and get the hero to be wounded. It will forget that it's supposed to be owned by the other faction and pop up in your hero list. It's more than likely unintended and will probably get patched when it gets more visibility.
I use a mod that allows you to tell your missile/artillery to NOT MOVE. Game now unplayable without it.
