You have anything to say about how bad the shuffler on Arena is.... I know how to fix it.... Do you ?
@@alexlore4716 how
@@TheLoraxWithMjolnir Rebuild the game on a 128 bit client or better, anything short of that we will forever be stuck in Hell, WOTC knows this yet we hear nothing about Arena 2.0.. they are bastards as long as people still spend money on Arena 1.0 we are fucked endlessly.... Understand how serious the problem is and how it pisses me off everyday while im at work knowing i have shit waiting for me everynight cause it will never change with the Fisher-Yates 32 bit maybe 64 bit shuffler thats borked?....

Oh my young Nikachu, I was there when Negator was printed. It was pure terror when playing with a non-burn deck and your opponent played swamp, dark ritual, negator. I have never in my life seen an era of magic with more first round concedes. It made ripples at the time as one of the most aggresive glass cannon deck types.
Yeah, it wasn't the worst creature if you get it turn 1 with some removal in hand. And the unearth mentioned in the video :)
Flame Jab recycling a Swamp becomes extra amusing when you realize it has Retrace, a mechanic that allows you to recycle the card by discarding a land.
actually perfect
lol
300 IQ move
And it's the same plane.
"The sword would come back from the graveyard equipped to the sword." Nailed it.
The amount of times i've confused players when casting Nevinyrral's Disc, and saying Larry Niven's Disc is countless haha.
OMG! I never understood why I was calling it that!
Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind has some weird characters in the flavor text that when turned sideways spell Niv-Mizzet. I think it might have been mentioned in a different video though
One of my favorites involves Krekno, Mob Boss. In the background of his art you can see two goblins skulking around. That background is the full art for Krenko's Command.
Larry Niven's The Magic Goes Away did a lot more than just get referenced in Nevinyrral's Disk. It could actually be argued that Niven's work inspired the entire flavor and function of Magic: the Gathering. In The Magic Goes Away, magical power was a limited, finite resource that was literally drawn from the land and it took time for the land to recover, which inspired Richard Garfield to create the tapping land for mana mechanic. While it was originally based on the oil crisis it actually made a brilliant game mechanic, as the main character had to seek out other lands just to gain the ability to use magic again... or in MtG terms, he had to control more lands, to tap for mana.
Back in older formats, Phyrexian Negator was a played card in competitive formats due to being a 5/5 trample for three mana. The decks it was played in operated similar to Delver decks nowadays, where they just used tempo and removal to diffuse the downside of Phyrexian Negator's effect.
Good ole Suicide decks. So much fun. So format defining and dominating as well......
At one point the folks at the DCI and Wizards were discussing banning the Negator......
Swamp, Dark Ritual, Phyrexian Negator on turn 1. Good stuff.
Wouldn't Phyrexian Negator be very good in a Zedruu Commander deck?
@@user-jd5zt4of8q no. Negator wouldn't be permitted in that deck based on Deck Construction Rules.
The Negator is a Black Creature, Zendruu is Blue/Red/White commander.
Even if you found a way to incorporate them in the same deck, the moment they have control of the Negator, they will make a point of removing that Negator fast as possible. (Potentially just pinging it themselves, depending on the deck they are playing.) There are considerably better options for Zendruu decks.
I remember seeing the card played in a Legacy Grand Prix back in the day.
As someone who dabbles in zombies, the champion lore is cool... but, you can't help but smile seeing artists reference their other work!
I love easter egg stuff like this!
Btw, Sword of the Meek is also depicted in Tribute Mage, who can tutor the sword (or the Thopter Foundry)
Also Krosan Grip. Somebody really didn't like that sword
@@quentincongdon6687 krosan grip being especially good against the combo because it has split second
That is an actual easter egg. The one in the video is not. Sword of the meek came out after that return to dust.
@@mfmageiwatch Sword of the Meek has been printed in Future Sight, which is dated in 2007, while the first Return to Dust has been printed in Commander, dated in 2011. So I guess it's a valid easter egg as well as for Krosan Grip (printed in Modern Masters back in 2013 at first with that art)
@@TheWallerit return to dust was first printed in time spiral, 2 sets before sword of the meek. You are wrong.
"A really old set called Tempest."
I feel old, but also heartened that this game is still alive and booming.
Older sets when you put all four basic land together it's one giant landscape. That was fun to discover.
All four?
But never knew that
Phyraxian Negator was the backbone of many decks that won GP and PT events in the past, are you sure you don't want a 5/5 trample on turn 1 in an all black aggro rush deck ?
It might not seem so good *now* but it was amazing when it was released, and stayed a powerhouse in Standard and Extended formats for a long time. Look at the history of Suicide-Black decks.
As for the Disk. Everyone knew that, as it was frequently mentioned by Garfield during the Alpha, Beta, Unlimited and Revised releases of the game. So much so that it is even mentioned specifically on the product packaging. It is only the newer players whom don't know about the reference.
But seriously. Phyraxian Negator was and is nowhere near as bad as you make it seem. It is and was a force to be reckoned with.
I would say Negator was Tier 1 in it’s time (like Morphling or Masticore) but it is pretty unplayable by todays standards.
@@NikachuMTG it can still fit in some decks. But yea, it isn't as good now as it was then. That whole "powercreep" thing.
There are very few cards from before 2002 that are playable now. Which shows a lack of competent game design in the newer stuff. (Game design itself has courses focused on preventing power-creep and making sure that older mechanics/items/cards stay relevant in new additions. Something not really happening in MtG, or most games for that matter.....)
6:55 Champion of the parish, Nikachu your misunderstanding the context of champion in this instant. In this context its refering to champion as the Hero, ie Hero of the Parish then Hero of the perished.
Read the flavour text again with that in mind it will make more sense
Champion 2. “a person who vigorously supports or defends a person or cause.
"he became the determined champion of a free press"
Oh, I'm just having fun :P
@@NikachuMTG woooosh! Sorry, I should have known better
Yes I played Disk for ages and just learnt now this esster egg 😉
And yes, as someone else stated, I played during Urza, and if u weren’t playing burn red or monogreen aggro, the start swamp-ritual-negator was lethal even for Replenish or Bargain!
Am era buried under the dust…
Return from Extinction goes even deeper with the slivers. At some point they were made to look humanoid but people hated it. The card from Modern Horizons shows the oldschool Tempest era slivers.
I remember being one of those people who hated the humanoid slivers. What an awful direction to take that classic creature type.
@@NikachuMTG For me it was making the new Phyrexians casually transform as a result of contact with Karn's glistering oil instead of introducing one of the numerous planes overtaken by Yawgmoth like the ones Urza mentions in his travels to find someone who could have found a way to stop them. Much like Mercadia that served as an interplanar marketplace and was kept without much modification for centuries. For some reason Wizards just made it seem like all the oldschool Phyrexians vanished when Urza absorbed Yawgmoth and became Planeswalker Karn.
My favorite and relatively new one is the updated art on Imperial Recruiter has the silhouette of Kiki-Jiki and Pestermite which is the infamous creature combo used by UR Blue moon decks to close out the game.
Phyrexian Negator is also depicted WAY in the background of the Jumpstart Phrexian special swamp
It should be mentioned that Flame Jab has Retrace...so you can pitch his land to cast it from your graveyard.
Always love seeing some Slivers being mentioned. Never thought about the whole Easter Egg thing though. But I have seen Steam Vents depicted in other card art. But only the Gildes of Ravnica version.
I loved that last Easter egg. From champion of the parish to champion of the fallen, I mean, perished.
Thanks to this video, I now understand why "Sword of the Meek" and "Thopter Foundry" were in the Myr Commander Deck I saw on this site another day.
There's an easter egg in the Original Kamigawa Block where a blue instant or Sorcerery ,(I can't recall which sorry hah) depicts Emrakul The Aeons Torn in the background. Always made me wonder if the Eldrazi aren't somehow related to Kamigawa
A lot of people think that's Emrakul, but it's just a spirit.
So informative and fun. I love how decades later I can still be surprised by Magic. Thanks🙂
I’m an old-time player who remembers back when Mark Rosewater was such an influence on the game’s design that they named a big green creature after him that complemented his playing style - Maro. 😎👍
Cheers Nikachu! Thanks to this video, I purchased a foil Kiora, the crashing wave, on ebay for a great price in an auction that had less than 2mins to go! I am a big fan of Hokusai's wave of Kanagawa artwork.
It's the perfect addition to your collection!
Krosan grip also depicts the sword of the meek getting obliterated.
Had to scroll quite a ways to find this haha. I also made this comment
Another great video and awesome commentary. Keep up the great work and catch ya on the flippity.
Nevinyrral’s disk one was mind boggling to me. That’s a cool Easter egg I will definitely be telling to customers that come to the LGS I work at
Deep Analysis has a couple of Cephalid looking at the head of a Masticore... and the flavor text is "The specimen seems to be broken." Anyone who as ever played against a Masticore knows that card is SUPER BROKEN.
that Negator can't catch a break 😆, from getting Unearth to getting bonked in the head by an Ancient Silverback (Urza's Destiny)
There is a yellow rag doll that artist Richard Thomas got a lot of mileage out of. It appears in the art for the Black Vice, the Cursed Rack, Leshrac's Rite, the Rack, and Wall of Wonder.
That one is really neat!
Probably fairly known, but Ral, Izzet Viceroy and Tomik, Distinguished Advokist each have a cloth on their hand depicting the other's color(s) in their respective art.
One of my favourite Easter eggs is the Sun Titan stuff; Sun titan, Terminate and Animate dead, even the flavour text follows the story!
I love Larry Niven.
I love Nevinyrral's Disk. Had no idea why the strange feeling of familiarity.
Hey there Nikachu, love your stuff and I'm always showing Magic buddies your content as well. Keep up the amazing work, as you never stop giving me great information and laughs.
Thanks!
The great wave is also depicted in Rampant Growth. MTG artists love that wave!
Gisela Blade of Goldnight has many cards that allude to her eventual corruption.
There is also the Grove of the Guardians land card with the Risen sanctuary card that is a playable card, and you can use the Risen Sanctuary as the 8/8 token instead...
Gearsmith Guardian connects with Gearsmith Prodigy to form the full picture.
Seasoned Pyromancer is literally a grown-up Young Pyromancer, both of whom are drawn by Cynthia Sheppard.
I always love the easter egg videos! Thank you sir 🙂
These Easter eggs are always fun to see, especially when they tell a story!
Thanks 🙏🏻 learned a few things with this video😉
Phyrexian Negator is one of my favorite cards of all times. 👍🏻
I was hoping for a video like this!!
I'm pretty sure Sword of the Meek and Return to Dust was already mentioned in another Nikachu's easter egg video
You might be right...
My favorite Easter egg Krenko's Command art is in the background of krenko mob boss's art.
Holy cow! This video was such fun I love it
Unspeakable Symbol and Wipe Clean tells a story, both on their flavor and on their arts both illustrated by Arne Swekel
Larry’s Disk.. now I know why people called it when I started playing years ago lol.
Everyone just called it that but never knew why hah.
Thanks for letting me know
You're welcome!
I knew about Champion of the Parish/Perished because they're in one of my decks, but I didn't know about the third member!
Hi, "Lunch atop a Skyscraper" photo appears to be inspiration for Riveteers Ascendancy's art :)
Easter egg videos are one of my favorites, makes me love Magic more.
Come ooon Phyrexian negator was awesome during its time. Lots of cool suicide black decks back in the olden days.
This video brought back good memories of my Magic origins…thanks Nikachu.
What about the planeswalker "Koth of the Hammer?" Name "Koth" is also an acronym for itself:
K - Koth
O - Of
T - The
H - Hammer
:O
I can't remember the other cards that tell a flavor text story, but I know Unruly Mob is part of a series of cards with flavor text basically laying out Innistrad history being survived by this small band of folk.
Khans of Tarkir and Dragons of Tarkir have a bunch of them because of the nature of alternate timeline. ex. Feed the Clan and Ancient Carp. "Why eat now what could one day turn into a feast."
The Great Wave is also the inspiration for 10E's Rampant Growth
Amazing! I love expropriate,so many more easter eggs in that art!
In the Art of expropriate there are also the 5 moxen
I have a brother named Stephen Ellis that goes by Steve and he loves magic. If it wasnt him that secretly made the art for Disperse then I should at least buy him that card for fun.
The cliffs in the background of Seaside Drake are the Cliffs of Moher on the west coast of Ireland.
Amazing!
This was awesome! Please do more MTG Easter eggs.
So there's a card called the llurgoyf and it has a quote on it from saffi ericksdotter she has a card in regular mtg and an unsanctioned set and then they just made hans ericson in commander legends that coincides with their story. Saffi and hans both work together as well as the outcome for the llurgoyf!
I forgot what exactly it was, but I remember one from Odyssey block that had to do with Kamahl and Mirari. I think from when it was on his sword
the disc was by far my favourite. I also felt old when you said that tempest was a super old set ^^
Fun fact, trophy mage is depicted holding sword of the meek.
You forgot Tasigur the Golden Fang hanging around Dragonlord Silumgar’s neck.
Repentant Vampire was an homage to Angel from the Buffy series.
The question isn't whether slivers will adapt to a world's perils but whether the world's perils will adapt to slivers. ~tempered
Champion got killed by Avacyn in shadows over innistrad . He came back as a zombie in midnight hunt.
Larry Nevin's disk just blew my mind
You could make again the Saffi Eriksdotter one. Considering her card is not from ice age, she was on the desert after getting caught on the time spiral.
lhurgoyf from ice age + saffi from time spiral (time spiral 2005 art)
These easter egg vids are a lot of fun.
poor Iceberg Cancrix crushed to death by the brine elemental (i think everyone noticed the crableggs under the elemental)
Great video I love seeing MTG easter egss and call backs. Expropriate is my favorite card but you missed all the other MTG references in the art, like all the moxes just thrown about the painting
or did I?
Literally the first time a nevinyrral's disk got played against me i realized it was larry niven backwards lol
At 5:38 when he says "Someone looks a little hungry," I got an ad for Uber Eats.
They know!
An oldy easter egg I've seen is goblin grenade from fallen empires. The one wielding a spear the name 'Mike' can be seen hidden in the barbs of the spear.
i was just going thru a box of my cards to just grab up some alright ones for a 60 card black deck and ill be damned if i didnt come across all of these lolz i actually put some unearths in this one too
Mercurial chemister seems to be making the destructive orb featured in merciless eviction.
Kind of a well known one (or at least is was back in the day), Pemmin's Aura, which almost turns a creature into Morphling, is an anagram for "I am superman".
Ty
Weird because return to dust came out before sword of the meek though both did come out in the same cycle. Return to dust came out in time sprial and sword of the meek came out in future sight. He was acting like return to dust came out after sword of the meek.
Wyluli Wolf (Arabian Nights): the name is an Anagram of Lily Wu - the Wife of Richard Garfield
I love the flavor text for disperse.
More easter egg's and lore will be good 🤤 love ur content THX...
If you get to play Phyrexian Negator on your enemys board it suddenly is a really good card. ;)
Disc hands down. I've used that card since 1998 and never knew.
Champ of the Parish and Champ of the Perished were my faves.
Am I misunderstanding, or did you read "champion" to mean he beat them? He was fighting for them, so they rose with him and made him stronger.
hahaha, I'm just having fun.
Awesomeness! 🤘🐸🤘
I don’t know if you covered that already but make a video of the first ever MTG tournament would be so cool
champion of the parish is my bread and butter so learning about champion of the perished is hilarious because now I have to make a zombie deck that mimics my human soilder deck
Pull it out when the Humans deck get defeated.
Phyrexian Negator is also in the art of a swamp shipped with the phyrexian praetors secret lair.
I liked this video. A minor nitpick. Art for Return to dust was made before both parts of thopter-foundry combo had been printed. In Time Spiral.
Your Easter egg videos are awesome
Glad you like them!
You know that a champion can just be someone chosen to fight in your name right? He doesn't have to win a fight first to be called one
