There's even more flavor with Sword of the Meek. It's the sword wielded by Jacques le Vert who protects his homeland of Pendelhaven, and Sword of the Meek's effects are a callback to Pendelhaven's pump ability. You can also see the sword being destroyed in the art of Return to Dust and Krosan Grip.
I made a full deck based on the Delver of Secrets story, with all his iterations and some more "mad scientist" themed cards like Brain in a Jar, Curious Homunculus as his assistant, Eyes Everywhere to represent his insanity... so much fun! Plus, Nils Hamm's art is remarkable.
A classic Easter egg is in the old art of Deep Analysis where it's art depicts a Masticore undergoing some sort of autopsy on the table with the flavor text "The specimen seems to be broken". Basically wotc giving a nod to the creature for it's powerful or "broken" lifetime while legal in standard.
Hey! You may add the newest addition to those cards. The original [champion of the parish] becoming the [champion of the perished] from midnight hunt, and in that set there's also the card where the champion dies in the form of [eaten alive], a whole circle.
These are great! I had no idea about several. One blunder of note is Rubinia, soulsinger was actually designed as soulsigner. the art even depicts her with a contract ready for you to sign over your soul to her. 🙂
Yo, the one in the reflection it's not the gitrpg monster, but the new one from crimson vow (the head shape is different, with the little horns on its head)
Heres one easter egg that was hardly talked. In Urza's Destiny, there is this card named Phyrexian Negator, a black creature. But in the same set, green has Ancient Silverback, and it shows the 6/5 ape bonking the Negator on the head.
My favorite series of Easter Eggs were the first batch of illustrations made by Ron Spencer. Cards like Goblin Grenade, Dire Wolves, Thallid and Order of the Ebon Hand have his friends' names hidden as part of the art so that he can prove to people that he has been hired to do MtG stuff.
One more layer to the Ach! Hans, Run Easter egg is that there's a card in Unhinged literally called "Ach! Hans, Run!" I know it's an "Un-" set, so it's not quite the same as the others, but still.
Amusingly, its effect is very similar to the effect the latter Hans card does. He eventually managed to jaunt over from flavortext to silver border to black border.
To add to the Lhurgofy easter egg, there are at least 2 more cards connected to it: - there is an Unhinged card (i think, or Unglued?) called: "Ach! Hans! Run! It's the ...." and it works like Sneak Attack, but you need to say: Ach!! Hans! Run! It's the
@@christopherhammond5142 the Stronghold card (Revenant) COULD be canon considering its from an actual set (Rathi Cycle). However, you may be right that they just slapped it in for the lolz since the Revenant was in Rath while Hans was in Dominaria. I guess the only thing we're sure of is that theyre both dead :/
There is a black card from Stronghold called "Revenant" which is a slightly modified flying version of the Lhurgoyf. The flavor text for it is, "Not again." - Hans
Wrong!! Saffi survives the Lhurgoyf, she just entered the Time Spiral and ended up in another timeline, what was ice, became a desert. Hans however, ...
Also... Hans might have survived. but since Saffi diappears from his timeline, he could easily think that she actually died to the beast, therefore, "Ach! Hans, it's the lhurgoyf" is her last words...
Gotta go back to the original artwork sometimes for the full context. I know the artist wanted the "you see one card art in another card art" effect but leaving out the portal makes the flavor text puzzling. However, Saffi's EFFECT implies that she is able to sacrifice herself to bring back someone recently deceased. I suspect this is meant to represent a bit of time shenanigans causing her to suffer the fate that someone else would. Maybe it's a sort of Final Destination thing, where since the portal caused Saffi to live and Hans die in her stead, now she is doomed to die in order for someone else to live? Things to think about. You could do an entire video on references and callbacks in Time Spiral Block.
i love the thought of Fynn, The Fang-bearer whoopin Koma's ass and lording it over him in his flavor text *just remembered you can even see Fynn jumping at Koma in Koma's alt art. love it
All toads are frogs, but not all frogs are toads. So I assume some frogs would be insulted if you called them toads. But toads would be fine being called frogs. They seem pretty chill.
Depending on when visions of Dominance was released, I'd say it's more likely Grolnok the Omnivore imo. It looks more similar to it than the Gitrog Monster
The first one i saw by myself was Make a wish and Grapple with the past. Found it pretty sad, but cool since the first innistrad was foreshadowing the coming of Eldrazis.
Missing a key piece in the insect researcher bit! Docent of Perfection // Final Iteration are a continuation/separate iteration of the researcher where he slowly turns into an insect, also a reference to, "The Fly" with Jeff Goldblum.
Gotta keep this series going, love Magic Easter eggs in the art. For instance, the fact that Silumgar can be seen wearing Tasigur as a necklace in his Dragonlord art
Wow, I learned more fun stuff here. But the thing that got me hardest? The Mindslicer and Dread Return. I had Dread Return, since I started getting serious in Magic right around the Time Spiral set. I had a few of that card. Was fun to look at.
I've made commander decks for both Saffi and Hans with the Goyf in the Saffi deck. The story of those two was tragic, and I actually decided to make both decks from scratch at the same time. I would probably make other decks based on the Lore of the character.
Cryptozoologist means someone who studies hidden animals. The prefix crypto means hidden or secret, and a zoologist is self explanatory. That's the reason that card investigates because they need to search for those creatures
I like how Ixidor is a somewhat known character, but then so much of his stuff appears elsewhere. I think he has his own counter, we get his Dream Chisel. His woman appears alive on an Instant, remade as an Angel twice (Akromas), after she dies to Phage, who has two creatures, etc. His ability to just will real versions of his illusions permanently into existence makes him one of my favorite characters, and I still want to make a Blue Morph/Manifest combo EDH deck that can put even hyper-expensive Artifacts into play cheap.
Great stories very entertaining, just one thing to add although it may not have been released when video was made but Grolnok the Omnivore is also a frog who has a hand hanging out of his mouth just like the legendary chub toad and Gitrog… classic stuff love the lord in magic it’s really good and the stories are fun.

Both frogs and toad are closely related. Frogs : they have big legs, good jumping abilities(most or the time), most aquatic of the two. Toads: front heavy, their arms usually are as strong as legs. They mostly run and go around dryer places. They still do babies in water, though. Then, you will find exceptions, it is mostly about a species that went into another direction regarding evolution. They are so many...
Don't know if anyone has said it yet but my favorite bit of Easter egg card continuation would be Indomitable Archangel from Scars of Mirrodin to Enslave from New Phyrexia. Its..quite the grim showing of how even the angels aren't immune to Phyrexia..And darkly ironic as well..
I play MTG arena it's one of my favorite things to do I made a werewolf deck it revolves around tarko the legendary creature when I do damage I draw cards it's very good with it's consistency love your content it's what got me back into the game
Toads are a sub category of frogs however there's no scientific distinction between the two. Toads generally have shorter legs, don't jump as high and have bumps on their skin but these are not requirements for being categorized as a toad.
m8 they are phylogenetically apart right? I'm not sure now but I feel like when I studied that there were toad families and frog families but it appears to be a controversial issue lately

“You see, Gideon. This is just my semi perfect form.”- insect abberation
Know any more MTG Easter Eggs? Let me know and it might show up in a future video!
Commented before I saw this about Rubinia soulsinger being originally designed as soulsigner. Contract and all. Thanks for the content man!
Yo, the one in the reflection it's not the gitrpg monster, but the new one from crimson vow (the head shape is different, with the little horns on its head)

Always entertaining content ☺️
I would love to see you do a lore video on the vampire cursed Mirri the cat warrior and the dwarf minion card that would be super cool

Ever notice the shadow on Hans...looks like the Lhurgoyf woke up from their hibernation. Love that artwork.
I love the cards that tell a story through multiple cards.
Hans just kept running into other monsters. He meets The Revenant next.
Also... Hans might have survived.

3:25 slight mixup there, Garfield created MTG not WOTC. Wizards already existed when he brought the game to them to publish.
Oh WHOOPS! yes, I meant MTG

Middle-aged Overgrown Samurai Toads sounds like a great show
Love waking up on a nice sunny Sunday morning to one of your videos man 😎
The Delver of Secrets punchline was great 10/10
I really did laugh out loud at that popsicle stick joke.
Seconds before you mentioned Chub Toad, I was actually singing the flavor text. It has always been a favorite of mine.
ACH Hans has to be the most enjoyable for me based on nostalgia alone.
I think my favorite cards are the ones that subtly tell interesting stories, I know next to nothing about paper magic, but I love this guys' channel
I always loved the art story of Make a Wish into Grapple with the Past.
"frogs and toads are the same?"
Yugioh playerd: except frog the jam flashbacks
No one's talking about that quick little minute Nikachu went to get a roll of tinfoil from his kitchen LOL that made my day
Good morning y'all. Love you're channel btw. Keep up the great work bro!
My favourite easter egg was the oracle text on Animate Dead.
This was awesome and funny please do more !
The last one makes reference to bump in the night too lol
I am so glad I clicked on this. The delver of secrets was in the last release I played/owned, so seeing his story grow like that was cool
The angel is known as Isobel, as named by her artist
Wow, I learned more fun stuff here. But the thing that got me hardest?
The Mindslicer and Dread Return. I had Dread Return, since I started getting serious in Magic right around the Time Spiral set. I had a few of that card. Was fun to look at.
This was awesome, I didn't catch any of these at first!
Nikachu - "Soon we will be buying magic cards on the blockchain"
WoTc - "Quick write that down, write that down"

Some of the smallest munchkins I knew back in middle school became the biggest guys by their senior year in high school. No joke.

How stoked are you for The Brothers War?? I hope we get an Urza planeswalker.
very excited
Tribute Mage. Nice find!! Finds both pieces of your thopter / sword combo!!
One version of Reanimate's art shows the Grave Titan coming back up as well.
In the words of someone out there, "all toads are frogs but not all frogs are toads" same goes for "all hornets are wasps but not all wasps are hornets"

another thing with the jade avenger: bushido 2 can be said as bushi toad, which is why he is a frog in the first place

Lmfao on the nft part 🤣
sword of the meek is in krosan grip and return to dust art as well
I was never really into the lore until I heard about Chandrissa. I'm still pissed.
well technically it's:"what doesn't grow dies, and what dies grows the tarmogoyf" , but it's close enough
My favorite Easter egg was "look out she's got a knife!"

Nice! Welcome back.

think the saffi story is so good. the story implies she ran away and let hans get eaten but you as the player can change the story with her ability.
It's the other way around. Hans runs away and Saffi sacrifices herself to save her brother(?). Hence "last words".
All toads are frogs (but not all frogs are toads). So Chubb Toad having creature type frog is accurate.
Buying magic cards on the block chain is just the start to alchemy on arena
Another random fact with Mindslicer is that in Japanese it has the same name as Jace, the mind sculptor (minus the Jace part ofc)
So a toad is like a category of a frog. Like a tortoise is a kind of turtle. Or a newt is a kind of salamander.
-1/-1 counters for not using the OG Saffi art (although it appears Wizards have retconned it out of existence).
I literally just pulled Jade Avenger. I love him.
Lmao I loved this
If you had only posted this later you would’ve seen the teaser about the turtle ninja in the latest set.
Toads are a sub category of frogs however there's no scientific distinction between the two. Toads generally have shorter legs, don't jump as high and have bumps on their skin but these are not requirements for being categorized as a toad.
