You can also see the Niv Mizzet easter egg flavor text when you tap him which you will do since he has a tap ability. Also the =1 i think means that when you tap niv mizzet 90 deg you deal 1 damage to a target since you will draw a card. Pretty neat
Oh, I think you’re right!
came here to say this... hehe
It could also be a emoticon smirk, if you look at the equal sign and the 1 together.
I thought the =1 meant he was calling himself number one
@@Coolguy-ex9tc Yeah, I don't think it has anything to do with the tapping, because the ^90° bit is the part implying the rotation - meaning you don't rotate the "=1" portion and you don't rotate the entire card either.
Ron Spencer hid a ton of names in his cards fyi. They were fans who wrote to him. I met him back in the 90s at my local game shop. Cool guy.
Goblin Archaeologist is poking a Pyrite Spellbomb, which will kill him if it explodes since he only has 2 toughness. Also the Sword of the Meek which gets destroyed in multiple cards (Krosan Grip and Return to Dust) since it can come back over and over. Also Tar Pitcher throws a Tarfire, and the flavour texts of both cards tell a story. Talking about flavour texts, the four cards Tidal Surge, Ogre Taskmaster, Wild Griffin, and Tremor (all from Portal Second Age) have a rhyme about four little goblins who all meet their demise in different ways. I know some more, but I don't want to write an essay here unless people are interested haha
Nice! I know many of these Easter Eggs, but I have to say I never noticed these (apart from the 4 little goblins one).
@@golgariguy I like the oops goblins where the plans backfire like goblin balloon brigade which I think is “from up here we can throw sticks and stones at the enemy… ‘ah yeah boss hit how do we get down’”
My fave is actually a poem on Ersatz Gnomes, I get the answer is the mana cycle (plains, islands etc) but have always suspected that there was more to the riddle… am I right does anyone mine sharing?
People are interested
oh we are interested
In grapple with the past the flavor text says "Emrakul does not grand wishes. Desires simply align to her will. "
true statement
And still she got beat by a fish last league 😂
If emrakul is a she
And hentai depicts tentacles inside girls
Then that type of hentai is lesbian?
@@SRADracer tbf she technically beat herself. She controlled tamiyo during that stage and locked herself away in the moon, so yeah lol......also she lost because of some major bullshit. I'm mean come on, Jace's brain should have exploded for even attempting to connect his mind with hers. Then again what can I expect, the dude has fatter plot armor than anybody else in mtg
I don't know of any Easter eggs, but sometimes the flavor text feels like one. Probably my favorite is from a card called Lava Axe, under which the flavor text simply says: _"Catch"_
In conjunction with the art for the card, it's hilarious and brings back major nostalgia for me.
The point of Niv Mizzets was turn him 90° and do "1" damage.
The unlucky planeswalker from the curses also shows up in MH2’s Flame Blitz, putting an end to the worst luck in MTG
The flavor text is on point on this one!
Knowing him, he probably survived, he's too cursed to die XD
I doubt he dies to it since his quote is "not again"
And we find out why he's so unlucky on Lynde, Cheerful Tormentor's art
Another thing is Grave Titan and Ultimate Master Reanimate, just like Sun Titan and Terminate
It's also Sun Titan on the Graveborn Animate Dead to continue the giant's story.
Yeah, i was going to post it too, the story of the Sun Titan continues
You rang?
@@thesuntitan Eyyy, the secret commander in my Esper deck.
What about all the clue tokens in Innistrad's flavor texts forming a riddle with Tamiyo journal entries on other cards to form the phrase "Remember This: They Came As Three" referencing to Ugin's Insight about the Eldrazi.
The humiliation of Sun titan didn't end with the MM2 Terminate. He was then depicted in the Graveborn artwork for Animate Dead
Great video! You gotta take away the "MIKE" outline so we can see what it looked like before!
Pressing back on the keyboard is too much work
Yeah, same with Pac-Man lol
remember when you could put all four or five of the various basic land arts together from a single set to make one large art out of them
This was true for kamigawa. idk any others tho
@@TheSkullPanda the latest Ravnica set you could do that
The new printing of Urza lands with karn do it too
@@TheSkullPanda You could do it with the color-corresponding basics from Scars of Mirrodin block, and the same is true of the Rise of the Eldrazi basics
The curse guy apparently a plainswalker because he's on Flame Blitz. That guy is very unlucky.
Wizards told us when they previewed the curse cycle that he's the multiverse's most unlucky planeswalker. Kind of hope he gets a card someday.
@@anthonydelfino6171 all the things I could think of are silver border stuff
@@onlyRicky_x I could see him as a planeswalker that would be tricky to write, but that you give to someone else, they're obligated to defend, and you get to use his loyalty abilities... all of which are bad.
Fun fact: He is literally titled "The Unluckiest"
I saw the blueprint for Karn when Stroke of Genius was new, but if the art depicts the eureka moment when Urza realizes silver goes through the machine unharmed, and then designs Karn based on that realization, then why does he already have completed blueprints for Karn when he has his eureka moment?
Well he has the blueprints for a golem but doesn’t know what material to use to make it. Steel? Iron? Wood?
The Cult Guildmage (from RNA) plays with a Jace Puppet.
Looks like the Rakdos guild is in fact making satires about Ravnica politics.
It's lore-wise correct; if you read Rakdos Guild description in the supplement for Ravnica in D&D it goes like this: "The demonic Cult of Rakdos is the jester in Ravnica's culture, using satire and performance to skewer the powerful and embolden the weak." Also there is a section where it's written what every guild thinks about other guilds: for Rakdos, Boros soldiers "are the deserving straight man for our every punch line."
The almost passive aggressive snarky catch phrases after each card are the quality content I subbed for
There are over 40 "combos" you can make from multiple cards to put them together into one picture. One unknown is Guardian Angel and Paralyze (both from Alpha thru Revised) that connect at the corners. Plenty more of these can be found if you look closely.
The Kiki combo in imperial recruiter is solid gold, I love that sort of thing and I want to see it more in future cards/reprint art
I didn't know about the Cartouche cycle, but there's quite a lot of cards with illustrations that can be put together to form a bigger one. On top of my mind, Dark Maze and Trade Caravan from Homelands, but there's more. Also, the faerie tokens from the Secret Lair reprint of Bitterblossom.
The only thing that irks me is that the Cartouche cards don't combine in a WUBRG order.
@@LungDrago I feel your pain lol
The modules from Kaladesh
I was thinking about the Trade caravan cards myself. Good call brother.👍 Especially with the minimal success/popularity of Homelands. Sidenote: I wouldn't count the B*M as an example but I am overly fond of it having a polar kraken & phyrexian dreadnaught as earrings. 😁
Yup, the Kamigawa basic lands forms a panorama picture as well :)
Missed a couple!
PacMan is also on Avarice Amulet. He even ate a big circle, so the ghosts around the outside of the Amulet are blue.
And that unlucky planeswalker, who many dub Murphey (from Murphey's Law), is also in the art of the new MH2 card Flame Blitz being roasted. Guess the guy can never catch a break.
Damn I wanted to mention this because I bought an Avarice Amulet for my Thantis Warweaver xD
One thing cool I noticed is that the ravnica birds of paradise is on utopia sprawl, probably more commonly known but still a nice touch
I had no idea.
And the bolt the bird lightning bolt (players reward)
5:20, they person surfing the flame wave is totallly a player character!
Minor one but it blew my mind and started a spark to look in to easter eggs and flavor texts back in the day. There is a specific white soldier token to go with Precinct Captain :P
Together with spirit bond :)
I like that the final easter egg works with each consecutive set. "The Guilds of Ravnica" in the set about Ravnica. Then Gatecrash: "Will Destroy Each Other". And so on. Maybe we see more of that in the future, adding to the message.
The titan sun cycle is made of three card, look animated dead of grave born premium deck series
I want the curse cycle planeswalker to get his own card.
I guess he has his own card. The Drannith Magistrate appears to be an older version of the guy from the curse cards from the Commander Set and the artworks of these cards were created by the same artist.
@@michaelgrebe7594 that could be, but each of the curses are on a different plane so he is a planeswalker. So maybe we could see one in the future.
Just a matter of time before this actually happens (Gavin Verhey has actually teased this in one of his videos)
Sounds like it would be in an un-set
Pretty much common knowledge by now, but a voodoo doll of this man is in the art for Lynde, Cheerful Tormentor. Not a card for the man himself, but at least we know why he’s so unlucky!
From back in the day, The Helm of Obedience shows up in incinerate and Dry Spell.
If you put stronghold biologist and stronghold machinest next to each other you realize they are sitting at oppisite end of the same table
Lol, I noticed the last one and totally just assumed it was a quality control issue
Not really an easter egg, but more of an admission to how the card is played, but on the Ultimate Masters version of Through the Breach, where Emrakul is rising out of the depths of the ocean, you can see a tiny picture of Nahiri on a rock summoning the Spaghetti Monster!
I caught the masticore/deep analysis one years ago. It's hilarious how "broken" newer cards are now by comparison. xD
Yeah, Masticore is downright unplayable.
My favorite mtg easter egg has to be Splicer's Skill from Modern Horizons:
It shows a SPLICER from new Phyrexia, the cycle of cards that made 3/3 golems like the token that this spell creates, It has SPLICE onto instant or sorcery and (my favorite part) the art looks like Phyrexian Splicer, a card from Tempest.
So many references on a single card.
(Also, splice onto instant or sorcery should have been the Izzet mechanic, fight me)
On the card “Sage owl” by Mark Poole you can see the portrait with a man very similar to the man from Mark Poole’s “counter target spell”
There's packman hidden in the art of avarice amulet, the crack in the amulet makes his mouth and the surrounds look like four blue ghosts and power pellets.
Also the mechanics are Pac Man. When the equipped creature dies and the other player gains control of it, it's basically Player 2 taking their turn.
i think you're stretching quite a bit on avarice amulet, it's literally just a cracked necklace
Not even a stretch I’m pretty sure I watched the artists painting video a couple of years ago and they said that they based it on a Pac-Man theme, or it might of been an article written about the inspiration behind magic art… 🤔 Like I said a couple of years ago!
the Champions of Kamigawa basic lands of each type are all a Panorama when combined together - especially islands are looking great
Mardu Strike Leader from Fate Reforged - someone in entering thru the window on the art, and that someone is Mardu Shadowspear from same set
My favorite is the the new borderless Fatal Push shows a continuation of the situation depicted on the original Fatal Push
the delver of secrets card sequence
The cartouches were probably my favorite. If they ever revisit Amonkhet, they should do something with them when they combine and transform (like kaldra)
my theory of the planeswalker from the curses cicle is that he was... well...cursed with inmortality and pfretty bad look. But who put this curse on him and why escape my comprhension
Fblthp did. They're a planeswalker and don't like crowds. The guy just got too close at the wrong time and...
I suppose any Demon could have.. Geyadrone Dahida, or maybe one of those that "helped" Lilyana.. They usually grant wishes with a twist for their own amusement.
That guy: "I wish for immortality."
Demon: "Sure, here you go. Also, here is some bad luck"
off the top of my head, there's the factory cards in fifth dawn
more importantly, there's "pemnin's aura", which is an acronym for "i am superman". It was named that waybecause it gives the creature all the abilities of the morphling which was nicknamed "superman"
Tamiyo's Journal had different flavor texts and had a similar raised letter message as the Guilgates
O_O I didn't know about the Cartouches. A few years back, I put together the panoramic Rise of the Eldrazi lands together and had them framed. Now I gotta do this to the Cartouches.
Back during the Invasion block, any card with a Kicker cost had that color's coalition piece in the art. If the kicker cost was colorless, the entire coalition badge was shone. For example: Ardent Soldier has it on his belt.
Know any other cool MTG Easter Eggs? Let me know!
Well, there's Sleight of Hand from Portal which in the paper it's design an Hedron from Zendikar! ^^
I don't know any other cool MTG Easter Eggs. But I know that watching a grown man talk like you and creating a video such as this, desperately trying to appeal to the young youtube audience for clicks and likes is just pathetic. Stick to real content or get a real job.
my favorite is the story of the four little goblins across the cards, tidal surge, ogre taskmaster, wild griffin, and tremor
there is fblthp in the art of captive audience, murch of the multitudes, and umquestioned authority, and there are a lot of Easter Eggs in modern horizons 1 and 2. (like cabal therapist and tourach)
Did you know shan005it
My favorite has to be Village Rites - which is both an art and flavor extension of Village Cannibals. Sure, you enjoyed the feast, but now it's your turn to contribute...
So, to me it looks like Arcane Sanctum is Serra Sanctum after it was invaded by the Phyrexians. though this may just be coincidence, it would make sense why half-metal creatures would become the ornate half-metal esper people. However they are on different planes, so i doubt that's the actual lore.
The Niv Mizzet is the best lol.
You can connect vertically the card art of the three mods from Kaladesh (animation module, decoction module, and fabrication module) in a way where it doesn't matter what order they are in as a reference that the passive effects triggers into the next one in line. animation mod triggers decoction mod, decoction mod triggers fabrication mod, and fabrication triggers animation mod.
Order does matter, but the three do form a horizontal set that loops back around in the art, so where you start doesn't matter, but it always loops Animation > Decoction > Fabrication > Animation
I loved the Lavamancer one. I've played that card for years and didn't know.
The artwork of endless ranks of the dead and one of the clue tokens show the same church. I remember a third card also showing the windows of the church, but cannot say which card it is :)
Relentless Dead
I feel like Pacman would be an Eldrazi... He's also known for his ceaseless hunger...
The guild gates I'd never heard of. I like the other Fallen Empires cards Ron Spencer did with names in them. Especially the Order of the Ebon Hand art he did where the name "Josh" is in the bottom right of the card using the blood on the blade and the fire since my name is Josh too :D
"You should be blaming Urza!" Yeah, I'm sure he don't care since he gave his spark to Karn when he died. He don't care WHO is mad at him now, haha
The Unglued and Unhinged cards all had a word printed at the bottom of them and if you put them together in the order of their card numbers would spell out a message.
I like how the guildgate easter egg ties directly to war of the spark, where niv mizzet became the guildpact
One of the Battle for Zendikar full-art plains is an alternate camera angle of the artwork from All Is Dust, but Ulamog is just out of view. Very obscure, but I think it's pretty cool :)
The guy in all those curses.... Wizards told us where he is on each card and he's not eating chicken in Innistrad, that's Tarkir. He's on Innistrad when getting pulled in by the angry mob in the white curse, on Fiora when he's spilling all his secrets in the blue curse, on the shard of Grixis when chased down by zombies in the black curse, and on Ravnica when his pockets explode with treasures in the red curse. Also he shows back up in the Modern Horizons 2 card Flame Blitz. He's the multiverse's most unlucky planeswalker, and I really hope he gets a card someday.
The KFC Guy even gets roasted alive on "Flame Blitz".
And the flavour text is _"Blast it! Not again!"_
MtG art has so many cards that if lined up in the correct order, the art combines into a panorama.
My favorite was the grim lavamancer and obstinate familiar being hidden in plain sight on each other's card.
I just realized that uktabi kongs ability is supposed to be representing pregnancy. Should have made you wait 9 months for the token
"At the beginning of your upkeep, put a gestation counter on ~. Then, if it has 270 gestation counters on it, create a 1/1 green Ape token."
0:39 would like to point out that when you are able to read the math equation, there is a 1 at the end. To read this in a match Niv Mizzet is currently tapped and you draw dealing 1 dmg to any target. NivMizzet 90degree(tapped)t=1? t=1 because you tap to draw 1 and/or draw deals 1 dmg and thats the sentence and effects/abilities of NivMizzet.
In one of the remands, the mage is banishing Deathrite Shaman... it was released shortly after he was banned
What a fun and awesome video! Would like to contribute, Return to dust and Krosan grip both depict the same sword being destroyed. The sword is non other than the infamous Sword of the meek
Damn that Ravnica message is really impressive!
"You know from down here we can make the whole wall collapse" "yeah boss... but what about us?!?"
Pretty cool! Actually didn’t know about most of these.
Push has 3 art. 2 of them are correlated. The original one shows a guy pushing another guy off a flying ship. And the fullart one from double master show the same guy falling with the same ship on the background
4 arts, the 2 correlated, the Kaladesh falling vedalken and Yargle :)
That Pestermite + Kiki Jiki easter egg was pure ownage.
Nothing makes the opponent rage more than OTKs with hordes of lowly creatures for infinite damage.
That is... Unless the opponent also has something to cast or make his spells have flash and drop an Orzhov Pointiff right in the middle of the combo for mass murder of tokens.
In one game, eons ago, one of my friends amassed millions of squirrels, ready to kill his opponent, only for him to smile, tap his Winding Canyons a plains and Godless Shrine and nonchalantly drop his Orzhov Pointiff smack dab into the battlezone. My friend literally screamed in a very comical way: _"Not that arsehole!!"_ which sounds much more comical in Spanish.
been waiting for this!! thanks man
Phyrexian Tyranny - "He is Yawgmoths reward to me, I shall kill him a hundred times a day" and in the art work you can see a dead goblin laying at the foot of the throne. Clearly hes referring to Squee the Immortal. This is cool, because it was before Squee was even printed.
One of my favourites is on "Split the Party" from AFR, where the flavour text reads "Don't." Not sure if that's quite an Easter Egg or not but I very much appreciated the nod to actual D&D games there.
”Who is Mike?” Mike Oxlong existing👹
Thank you for your instuctive video about easter egg in Magic cards. I can also tell there is a combo you can make with a complete set of all the type of lands in one edition. I don't remember the edition but it is somewhere between torment and conflux.
What an amazing Video!! I only knew Krenkos Guys in the background and the rest was really mind blowing stuff :D
So the way you're supposed to "say" Niv Mizzet's flavor text is as follows: "open parenthesi; as Z approaches infinity; closed parenthesi; to the power of 90 degrees; minus open parenthesi; E minus N squared W; closed parenthesi; to the power of 90 degrees t; equals 1"
Very fun! Great work assembling these!
Serra’s Sanctum is in the artwork for Abiding Grace
Maybe not quite and easter egg, but the card Disruptive Student has a ton of flavor that ties a lot together. The flavor text says "Teferi is a problem student. Always late for class. No appreciation for the constructive use of time." --Barrin, progress report.
To be fair, the reference in the Uktabi kong isn't that hidden. After all, the card's itself tells you that by "making a pair of apes busy" for the rest of turn, you'll obtain one more little ape.
If both pictures aren't a perfect illustration of that, I don't know what is.
I noticed the elevated letters in the guild gates but never knew they spelt something so that was the coolest thing for me
The flavor text of Pillarfield Ox in the Zendikar set says:
_"These stubborn and unpredictable oxen inspire the plains nomads’ most colorful curses."_
The version of M13 gives us an example:
_“May starving fleas birth a thousand generations on your stubborn hide, cow!”_
-Bruse Tarl, Goma Fada nomad
Never thought I'd here you say "ooh ooh ahh ahh"
That niv flavor text is just built different. It’s like that jock that is secretly been a D&d nerd the whole time
He liked my comment, yet I am still in recovery of my mind shattering…
If you turn Niv-Mizzet 90° you draw 1. Pretty self explannatory
Keep up the great work. Liked this video a lot
Omg no Peach Garden Oath! Need to add it to your next video, super nice job btw 😀
The Make a Wish and Grapple with the Past Easter egg is actually the most depressing out of all these if you think about it too much.
Those were cool! Thanks!
The last one, which combines lots of other flavour texts, is awesome! :D
So the text on Niv Mizzet is still a formula. It actually stands for if you tap Niv (turn 90°) he draws a card, which equals 1 damage.
Mike is probably Mike Dringenberg (of "Sandman" fame) who also has illustrated plenty of MTG cards.
Pacman creature type would be horror
?? Why?
My suggestion would be gorger which is unfortunatelly no creature type...
But official Pacmans species is "Pac-Person". So this would be his creature type.
If you notice in Karn liberated's artwork on his arm he has cracks, that's from when Joira tossed him the viashino trinket and he tried to catch him but didn't manage, it scratched his arm! :D
When you tap Merieke Ri Berit, the pentagrams on her dress strap become inverted. The rock she’s sitting on is also a skull 👁️
Even funnier is the flavor text on the bottom of the uktabi Kong card at 1:57. It says “I desire the acquisition of a POTASSIUM-rich fruit comestible of substantial magnitude.” What “fruit” is potassium-rich and makes babies? That’s right, trouser sauce! So if the female monkey ate the potassium-rich fruit, she wouldn’t be pregnant, would she?
Loved this video. more easter egg vids please...
It's the first time i see Whetwheel, didnt know it even existed wtf
