The odds are that good cause for the first three he basically his a 66% chance of being fine. The last two are based off how many rites he flipped in the first three.
The thing is, in Nassif's case, we are looking at the odds of he surviving that Ignite Memories. Many times when talking about luckiest comebacks, people talk about the chances of that specific scenario happening.
Lots of possible combinations would've kept him alive there, all that needed to happen was not revealing Ignite Memories at all on the 5 events and revealing Rite of Flame at least twice, every combination in any order sticking to those precepts would have kept him alive.
4 hollow ones is for sure the greatest odds but the comeback was the most pleasing one. A good comeback is always amazing. I had a really good one with my elf commander deck against both a goblin and skeleton deck, thank you Lathril, Miara and serpent soul jar.
Just had a casual commander match a few days ago where I was running Okaun//Zndrsplt. Pretty much only Okaun and Krark's Thumb on the field. Okaun's trigger goes off, and I manage to pull off 16 consecutive coin flip wins, giving me an absolute BEAST of 196608/196608 (3 * 2^16), to which I then fed Temur Battle Rage for some sweet sweet doublestrike trample. Apparently, getting 16 favoured flips with Thumb in play is a 1% chance (0.75^16).
Watching the Nassif vs Chappin match on here was so fun 😂 that game and those moments are what it’s all about imo, more than anything else just players having a good time, having a laugh, playing to the last life count :)
Yes! I’ll never get tired of seeing the Nassif/Chafin Dragonstorm mirror! Thanks for putting it up so I could see it again, Nikachu! Have a great day👌 Bob losing to Bob was pretty rich! I’ve done it, too. But I still love the card! I’m sleeving up an updated version of Modern the Rock tonight after putting it down for a while. Greatness, at any cost.
I love hollow one and still play a version of it in modern. Best I've gotten is 3 on turn 1. I also think this deck will have a shot in the meta again with the printing of Containment Construct in the new set
And I thought I was lucky when I kept a zero land hand with four traps just for giggles. When my opponent played a polluted delta I was like....I will never top this.
Haha - love the Han Solo reference :) Your commentary is well-pitched for the casual player, which I appreciate. I don't know all the damn cards and I'm glad you explain the deets.
That last match reminded me of when I was playing shadalar, and the game glitched out in such a way that my opponent did absolutely nothing on their turn, but I decided it was a good idea to play a Mana Crypt. It was not a good idea to play mana crypt-- five bad coin flips later and I was dead.
i played a match where i had a ton of creatures, an enchantment that gives all creatures +1/+1 and trample and my opponent was at 1 health, he played the 4 mana blue sleep card that taps all my creatures.. and then drew it again next turn and played it.. and then drew it a third time turn after and played it, each time tapping all creatues i cast then attacking.. he won the game :)
I think the luckiest I’ve gotten was a 4-player game of Commander where I was playing Alesha, Who Smiles at Death as a Reanimator/Token deck. Opponent plays Hive Mind and immediately follows it with a Warp World (he was playing a Chaos deck). Since my deck generated tokens I gained permanents with each Warp and the 2nd and 4th resolutions flipped my Purphoros onto the battlefield alongside all the tokens generating from the EtB effects. I did upwards of 40 damage to each opponent by accident and won. That and the time I pulled 2 copies of Zurgo Helmsmasher at the Khans of Tarkir prerelease tournament at my LGS-got me to 2nd place!
I super love the fake ass camera reactions to videos you've obviously watched ahead of time. I also love how close we are to your face that we can almost read the script your reading. So much love in these videos!!!
Ignite Memories v Ignite Memories has to be the top #1. Plus - and I confess to not knowing anything about MtG after that era when I played, Chapin and Nassif were two class acts that I looked up to.
Losing because you played a card you designed is one of the most the most ironic thing that could happen, I can't imagine how Bob felt after that game!
On Russian WinCondition channel there was a pauper game, in which a player had four burning-tree emissaries in the opening hand. That was a swift victory for him. Not as strong as four hollow ones, but still devastating. And in my gaming experience there was a super Cabal Coffers game:(
A friend of a friend played a Warhammer Fantasy tournament. His cannons all exploded due to missfire. On the first shot. In every game. I think the odds for that many bad rolls in a row was in the billions
Ive seen a commander game with 2 people in my pod getting into a counter war on my brainstorm. they both proceded to use pact of negation and didnt have enough to pay and i won the game by doing nothing
absolutely loving your content I love reading and listening to mtg history/drama/scandal and everything (grab popcorn) Only 1 problem I have is the music is too loud sometime and causing the distraction great content
i dont play nor have every played this game and have very little interest in it.....YET YOU JUST SELL IT SO WELL AND I CANT STOP CLICKING IT! lol you got me mack
I was once playing a commander game and we all rolled d20s to start the game. We all rolled a 20. Everyone re-rolled. We all rolled 17s. I worked out the probability at some point. Pretty sure that's never going to happen to me again.
He shuffled up, drew a bunch of random cards, DID NOTHING..... and became a magic champion... against a guy who designed the card that beat him LOL too good!
The first one was effing AWESOME! I was never a fan of Confidant. It completely baffled me when it went over $10. I guess I just prefer big splashy critters. *cough cough Ghalta cough cough* 👍
lol running force of will with bobs because force of will is a 4 of in so many decks in vintage... its like your ckmpetativeness is fuckkng you over in the end lol.
Honestly it is gameplay videos like this that really are getting me back into MTG. Just goes to show that if you keep the content genuine and you actually focus on the game instead of being a bigoted grifter like the quartering people will want to play the game.
Luckiest I’ve ever seen in modern was 4x archive trap in opening hand 😅 and I was sure he never cheated because opponent shuffled his deck. It was never caught on camera because it’s just a weekly league game which was a pity
I'd like to hear how that math was done for the first example. I find very frequently things like opening hand chance, mulligans, scrys (and the option of wether or not to take them) and various other things of that I'll aren't taken into account. I'll have to check out this Frank Karsten guy to see if he's different.
Which was your favorite? Do you know any other lucky MTG moments caught on camera? Let me know!
I was hate players who playing Storm but now I see how fun it can be if there is more Storm's in 1 play xD
I never knew about that Bob clip! XD too funny!
Definitely gab vs patrick
wouldn't the luckiest person be the opponent who faced the unluckiest person who drew 3 splendid reclamation where any other card and he would of won
Can you tell me what program you play mtg with?
I remember watching the Nassif - Matt match a while back. Also I love how Bob lost to the card HE DESIGNED.
We actually watched it on Coffee and MTG a while ago.
Not only the one he designed but the one he played lol
Self sabotage on every level
In the end, a Bob did win that game for Owen.
add bob to the list of inventors killed by their own inventions
That table slam by Gabriel Nassif will always be an iconic moment in Magic history.
No matter how many times I see the Ignite Memories clip, it never gets old. Greatest moment in MTG history imo
Shoutouts to Chapin for being a good sport about the game against Nassif. The irony of bob bob'ing himself though is pretty good.
i like how he just shows the best moment at the beggining and just trusts his audience retention skill to make people keep watching
And trust I have.
I would have thought Nassifs odds were worse than 10%! I just love that moment, and that there’s a guy who blows an airhorn when Chapin loses lol

Nassif match, dudes hand was shaking so hard
The math is simple, 0,66^5
4 hollow ones is for sure the greatest odds but the comeback was the most pleasing one. A good comeback is always amazing. I had a really good one with my elf commander deck against both a goblin and skeleton deck, thank you Lathril, Miara and serpent soul jar.
I love the Nassif one. Every time I see it and Pat says “do you have a response?” With that smug look, then slumps down in his chair.
Just had a casual commander match a few days ago where I was running Okaun//Zndrsplt. Pretty much only Okaun and Krark's Thumb on the field. Blackjack players envy you around the world!
The Chapin v Nassif match is one of my all time favourites. I rewatch that footage every time it shows up.
Watching the Nassif vs Chappin match on here was so fun 😂 that game and those moments are what it’s all about imo, more than anything else just players having a good time, having a laugh, playing to the last life count :)
Ignite Memories in nice but imagine casting Grapeshot as the fifth spell of a turn in a Torbran deck. Man oh man.
Yes! I’ll never get tired of seeing the Nassif/Chafin Dragonstorm mirror! Thanks for putting it up so I could see it again, Nikachu! Have a great day👌
Bob losing to Bob was pretty rich! I’ve done it, too. But I still love the card! I’m sleeving up an updated version of Modern the Rock tonight after putting it down for a while. Greatness, at any cost.

Check out the Milton Figueroa vs Harry Corvese match from an SCG Legacy event for more extreme luck swings.
Haha - love the Han Solo reference :) Your commentary is well-pitched for the casual player, which I appreciate. I don't know all the damn cards and I'm glad you explain the deets.
You’re welcome!
That last game had me rolling laughing. What a great video to wake up to.
Big Chapin fan here! He successfully ran one of my favorite standard decks ever. Junk Midrange.
Random guy: What's the move you made to snag the championship title
Champion: played some lands 😆
That last match reminded me of when I was playing shadalar, and the game glitched out in such a way that my opponent did absolutely nothing on their turn, but I decided it was a good idea to play a Mana Crypt. It was not a good idea to play mana crypt-- five bad coin flips later and I was dead.

Well I had the absurd scenario where I played a burning inquiry and the opponent 3 random discards were 3 obstinate baloth... on the first turn :/
Too bad it wasn't caught on camera! What a crazy plot twist!
I think the luckiest I’ve gotten was a 4-player game of Commander where I was playing Alesha, Who Smiles at Death as a Reanimator/Token deck.

Cathric reunion is literally in my phone case
You look the the guy who keeps the adult video store in business
I love pat chapin he was so nice when it fizzled
You can't even be mad there, sometimes Magic is just more enjoyable when you lose in such an epic fashion!
Oh Nikachu. Thanks for finding these old magic moments. Maybe you should curate an archive? I bet people would send you some mythic moments.
How would I go about that?
@@NikachuMTG Make a playlist. "Old Magic Moments".
That last one was straight up God's work rofl. Wow. hahahahaha what Irony x'D ! "Any cost" LOL! The tournament.
That Nassif - Chapin was a blast !! I watched it live and I was smiling for a week 😎
Omg thats why that call DC bob!?! Can't wait to flex my new knowledge
I will start readyn out loud the flavor tests on my commander table kkkkk. Nice content! 🇧🇷
3:35. "WOW! THAT'S A LOT OF DAMAGE" -Phil Swift (Flex Seal)
I super love the fake ass camera reactions to videos you've obviously watched ahead of time. I also love how close we are to your face that we can almost read the script your reading. So much love in these videos!!!
You're really loving life, huh
Ignite Memories v Ignite Memories has to be the top #1. Plus - and I confess to not knowing anything about MtG after that era when I played, Chapin and Nassif were two class acts that I looked up to.
Never stop what you do. You are my favorite mtg youtuber.
Thanks! I have no plans on slowing down.
Always love your content man! I miss watching pro tour videos, I really do hope they bring it back.
Love the energy you bring to the content! Keep it up. I've learned so much by just listening
Bob Maher figuratively and literally played himself on every possible level
Losing because you played a card you designed is one of the most the most ironic thing that could happen, I can't imagine how Bob felt after that game!
Ive never played mtg but im addicted to these videos.
The last one is just the real life version of "Luigi wins by doing absolutely nothing"
I’ve ultimated Ral Zarek and lost all 5 coin flips before. Interesting vid Ty.
On Russian WinCondition channel there was a pauper game, in which a player had four burning-tree emissaries in the opening hand. That was a swift victory for him. Not as strong as four hollow ones, but still devastating.
And in my gaming experience there was a super Cabal Coffers game:(
“And that Taco Bell will burn more that Ignite Memories” probably accurate 😆
hey i've been lurking around magic content for a while but never played, your videos are really captivating, congretz dude
Glad you like them! Jump in the game for free on MTG Arena anytime. You can play on mobile, Windows or Mac.
Dying to your dark confidant has got to be one of the most painful things in the game.
A friend of a friend played a Warhammer Fantasy tournament. His cannons all exploded due to missfire. On the first shot. In every game. I think the odds for that many bad rolls in a row was in the billions
I bealive we all wana see more Nikachu videos about MTG :))
Greatest magic channel ever. Others should take notes
Last match lol 😂 definitely the most lucky 🍀
You love to see the Hollow Four. It’s like basically exodia.
Ive seen a commander game with 2 people in my pod getting into a counter war on my brainstorm. they both proceded to use pact of negation and didnt have enough to pay and i won the game by doing nothing
Awesome video! Can't wait for the stream tomorrow.
Bob losing to Bob is priceless
Pretty Deece on the Magic Arcanum channel did a whole involved video about the Chapin-Nasif game.
absolutely loving your content
I love reading and listening to mtg history/drama/scandal and everything (grab popcorn)
Only 1 problem I have is the music is too loud sometime and causing the distraction
great content
i dont play nor have every played this game and have very little interest in it.....YET YOU JUST SELL IT SO WELL AND I CANT STOP CLICKING IT! lol you got me mack
I was once playing a commander game and we all rolled d20s to start the game. We all rolled a 20. Everyone re-rolled. We all rolled 17s.
I worked out the probability at some point. Pretty sure that's never going to happen to me again.
For the people at home... For everyone to roll the same number...
Once: ~1/8,000
Twice: ~1/64,000,000
The bob one is a funny karmaic event lol
Okay, ya... that last one has got to *burn like Hell.*
I had never seen that Maher/Turtenwald match before. That was amazing. It made my day 😂
He shuffled up, drew a bunch of random cards, DID NOTHING..... and became a magic champion... against a guy who designed the card that beat him LOL too good!
The first one was effing AWESOME!
I was never a fan of Confidant. It completely baffled me when it went over $10. I guess I just prefer big splashy critters. *cough cough Ghalta cough cough*
👍
"Greatness at any cost." It was great he got to design his own card but it cost him that championship.
Your commenting is very funny. 🤣👍 Keep up the good work man.
Ignite memories is great tension
but I love hollow omen luck so much I went and made it my first modern deck.
great video! like it man, keep it up
His name is Matt Nass and he is playing a discard your own hand deck? Madness!
You’d think the first one was on arena with how the shuffler acts
just joined. man do i loove your channel. keep up the awsomeness
Thanks!
lol running force of will with bobs because force of will is a 4 of in so many decks in vintage... its like your ckmpetativeness is fuckkng you over in the end lol.
I really miss paper magic and the old pro tour set up. I hate that we don’t have that anymore.
Honestly it is gameplay videos like this that really are getting me back into MTG. Just goes to show that if you keep the content genuine and you actually focus on the game instead of being a bigoted grifter like the quartering people will want to play the game.
Yeah this one had my jaw fully dropped the whole time 🤣
I want to feel bad for Bob, but...he is on his own Magic card lol
2:08 This clip is so old the PogChamp emote is still there
Bob thought he plays agains Owen. But he played against Luigi.
Last one is just irony at its peak
Looks like the Dark Confidant got... over confident.
One time I got 4 Hollow One on turn 1 in paper back in 2018. Best day.
"Is a burn deck who deals damage to your face with burn spells" In other news Orange is named orange because it has the same tonality as an orange.
The second game was the extremely lucky one.
4 copies of archive trap in your starting hand is basically Exodia.
Greatness, at any cost!
This video was really fun, I almost forgot to mention Mox Opal
Luckiest I’ve ever seen in modern was 4x archive trap in opening hand 😅 and I was sure he never cheated because opponent shuffled his deck. It was never caught on camera because it’s just a weekly league game which was a pity
He didn't do NOTHING. He strategically didn't block the dark confidant. "If your enemy is making an error do not stop them".
I'd like to hear how that math was done for the first example. I find very frequently things like opening hand chance, mulligans, scrys (and the option of wether or not to take them) and various other things of that I'll aren't taken into account. I'll have to check out this Frank Karsten guy to see if he's different.
If I recall correctly, it was what are the odds of drawing 3 more Hollow ones after drawing from Cathartic Reunion and Street Wraith
If this happened in Arena, there would be no surprise at all tbh
"Suck my luck!"
Bender B. Rodriguez
Bob: +1 mana, lifelink
OH WOW Patrick Chapin is my husband's cousin! So cool to see such a crazy moment in action!
Small world!
Get you someone who wants you as much as Andrew Baeckstrom wanted that Hollow One to be on top.
I really hope Chapin takes solace in the fact that he was part of MTG history.
Looks like the Dark Confidant got... over confident.
pretty sure that guy rolling against the black sleeves - the guy with the cards was stacking the deck so to speak
"Not gonna lie, they had us in the first half."
So, that last game was basically... Luigi wins by doing nothing?
Thanks Brother!
