A Simple Method of How to Draw an Oak Tree using Pencil

- Want to draw trees with pencil? In this easy tree drawing tutorial I am going to show you how to draw an oak tree using a very simple method, i.e. shading with a pencil from right to left, or left to right. You will learn how to start by simply blocking in the shape of the tree, no outlines and gradually building up the tones. We take into consideration where the sun is and eventually you have a stunning looking tree. The video is designed for beginners and those wanting to develop their drawing skills.

Beautifully done! I tried out almost all the trees you've taught to draw while in a boring lecture and they turned out quite good! Also, a request; would you please put in a tutorial on how to draw a tree from the underside? You know, the picture you get when we look at a tree from below...the sun rays and the foliage. I tried and it turned out to look like a shaded and tangled spiderweb...

Hello Paul. That’s a great technique that I have to try for trees and other things too. I’ve been trying all kinds of ways to draw the California oaks. They are so beautiful. I haven’t got it yet. I can draw the tree, but it's going to take more than one session for me to do so; my right shoulder, which is my dominant arm, collapses after just a few minutes of such activity (or any activity, actually) due to a massive injury incurred six years ago. It doesn't stop me from drawing, but it does force me to draw much slower, with many stops to give the shoulder a rest.

Hi Wade This afternoon I have just received a pair of very good headphones bought especially for the reason you mention. I have always done the balancing between speech and music by listening to my speakers, which in this case sounded OK. But through the headphones you are right, the music is a little too loud, apologies for that. It won't happen again. Cheers Paul
