Do you perhaps have some ancestry from any of the 'Nordic countries' (Norway, Sweden, Finland & Denmark), or perhaps the British Isles? [rather intertwined histories - 'cause of the Vikings, as you probably know? ;-) ]
(I ask because of the choices of several of your songs. Also, one of the instruments you play - the key-harp, or "nyckel-harpa" in Swedish - is, as far as I know at least a traditional 'Nordic' instrument. The title of one of your songs, "Lappland" - a region not only found in Finland, but in Sweden too...and I believe Norway as well, although not 100% sure. And finally, because some of your videos seem to have been filmed in at least some of these places..?).
And finally - your name: "Tal Barr" - if spelled with two "l"s, it means "Pine needles" in Swedish.
Thank you so much. I don't have Nordic ancestry even though I travel to Finland a lot. My "european" ancestors may have come from Portugal, Spain or Ukraine but I cannot be sure. The only thing I can say for sure is that my heart belongs to the British Isles, though the reason for it is still a mystery to me. I'm also very connected to Finland. Another mystery.. As for Lapland. I visit Finnish and Norwegian Lapland, haven't been to Sweden yet. The instrument in the video is my hurdy gurdy, similar to nyckelharpa yet very different. BTW, the nyckelharpa might be featured in my upcoming album :)

Aha, so it's a 'hurdy-gurdy'...rather than a 'nyckel-harpa'? (Was hard to see in your video....or, I wasn't paying close enough attention on the video?!)
Yes - those two instruments are indeed quite different....although they do share some similarities, as you pointed out.
(There are quite a few variations of nyckel-harpa: different sets/numbers of strings and 'keys' and also with or without the 'static "ground"-tone' ["bag-pipe-effect']...although - it's designed to resonate from the vibrations when played, rather than directly 'strung/fiddled' [by the wheel] as with the hurdy-gurdy. To name the different variations I know of at least..Although they do, or at least can sound quite similar.).
So - you might play the nyckel-harpa on your upcoming album? Interesting - I'm looking forward to it!
