I just love the fact that I can still use oem shift knobs with it. When I sell my car it looks perfectly oem but shifts so good. Anyone going for the oem+ look though get a taller shift knob. However get those arm work outs In
I learned a lot from this video on how the whole system works, I'll give you kudos for that. But I just finished helping a friend install this chassis mounted shifter with dssr and it was NOWHERE near as easy as this video makes it look. When you got the car on the ground, 7/10 people doing this install got the car on jack stands

Got a new selector joint for my '99 M3 and my DSSR would not fit around it like the old one cause it's bushing stuck out the sides, so i just re-packed the foam in the original and greased it, was plenty tight.
Using the tallest knob and the shortest throw, would it be easy to use in racing conditions? Considering that fast upshifts and heel and toe downshifts are needed.
When installing our Solid Mount Shifter in an E30 equipped with a shifter plate, the same steps will apply. You will be getting rid of the shifter plate just as you would with the shifter carrier 👍 If you intend on using a DSSR, you may need to change the selector joint with a late model style or our Billet Aluminum Selector Joint as some earlier style selector joints are too wide to fit with a DSSR. Hope this answers your question but if not, shoot us an email over at support@garagistic.com!
Our supreme shifter is our go-to option for people who want to retain their stock rubber engine/transmission mounts! We definitely still recommend upgrading to a DSSR, billet selector joint, and installing our shifter bushing kit so you can remove all the slop from the OEM shifter carrier setup.
Yes! If you were to run the stock rubber mounts with our solid mount shifter, you will encounter issues such as the transmission popping out of gear due to the movement of the motor/transmission.
Just bought your chassis mount shifter with 80a engine and transmission mount bushings. I really wanted it complete with the DSSR but it says it is sold out. Any way possible those can be made along side with my shifter kit? If so, you can send me an invoice directly and i can pay for it separately. If not I'm going to go cry in my bathroom until I see that its not sold out on your website. Thanks in advance!
Great video! This might sound counterintuitive, but is it possible to keep the stock amount of throw at the shift knob using this solid mount setup? I'm designing a gated shift plate for my Z3 and that sort of requires a decent amount of throw to be practical.
What car are you installing it on and what year? Some BMWs come with a broader selector joint but we now make a billet selector joint that can replace it depending on the chassis.
Does this work with 325e's which have the getrag 260? I doubt there's much difference, however it always has been a bit harder to find stuff for the e.
@@garagistic thank you! I see now it says: "1984 - 1985 E30 Models have a smaller diameter hole in the trans tunnel for the shifter. This will require you to remove enough material to increase the diameter of the hole in the trans tunnel with a Dremel for proper installation." Is there a certain recommended way to go about this?
@@ariss_00 Using a sanding drum on a dremel/rotary tool is a good way to remove material from the trans tunnel hole. You only need to make enough space for the bolts to go through and mount the shifter. We recommend using the bottom mounting plate of our shifter as a template so you can see exactly how much material you will need to take off in order to allow all the mounting bolts to fit and connect to the bottom mounting plate 👍
Would this increase the chances of doing a money shift? If I use poly trans mounts do I need to do solid engine mounts too? I'm interested in putting this in my e36 M3.
I would recommend changing your engine mounts to match the trans poly mounts. Bad things happen with two different mounts especially if you’re running a good amount of power. Engine will twist and the trans won’t = broken bell housing.
I'm building my 330xi back up and my shifter linkage needs to be replaced you guys come highly recommended but does this kit also work on the all-wheel drive? And if so what are you do about the transmission mounts because we have a different set up?

I don’t know if there is already a video on this but how can you adjust the throw from the bottom once it’s already in the car? And do you move the part underneath down or up to make it longer?
@@anjulynamay2901 In order to adjust throw, all you would need to do loosen the set screws on the bottom portion of the shifter that connects to the DSSR and then spin your shifter in order to thread the bottom portion in which would result a longer throw. Just make sure you tighten the set screws back in when you're done adjusting! What size shifter rod do you have? You can also increase your throw by switching to a longer rod

I've still didn't understand why on E36 shifting is a bit loose after installing your shifter with dssr. What part should be changed to make shifting stiff as on E30 ?
If you want super crisp or stiffer shifting, try the entire UUC set up. I had it for a little bit and just too notch for my taste. Went back to my OEM rowboat long shifter. Loving it!
Most stock syncros at this point in our car's lives are generally a little tired already but we have not noticed any excess stress on transmission internals caused by our shifters 👍
what sizes is that stock hole. I am cutting the tunnel to conver from auto to maual and need to know the proper clearance. if it makes a diffrernce im using the stage 2 shifter. thanks
@@PFDAuto What car are you installing it into? For most BMW's, you do not need to cut the transmission tunnel to convert from auto to manual. Also, the Stage 2 shifter mounts using the 3 existing holes on the transmission tunnel and not the large hole in the transmission tunnel like the shifter in this video.
So if i were to get the oem length shaft and wanted it comfortably for dailying it would become easier to shift if i set the throw length at the bottom to long?
While everyone's preference differs, threading the bottom adjuster in (towards the car) will make the throw longer and will make the shifting less notchy. It will not be as long of a throw as stock but, in our opinion, is definitely still comfortable and dailyable.

I have a getrag 5 speed on an e46 and my neutral is loose! It doesn’t go back to the centre at all and I cannot find the spring that brings it back to the centre, what do I need to replace to bring back to centre?
5th gear lean would be a transmission detent issue and the solid mount shifter would unfortunately not fix it. The supreme shifter does a slightly better job masking the symptoms but to completely get rid of the 5th gear lean, the detents would need to be serviced.

We would definitely recommend replacing your shifter bushings (we have a shifter bushing kit on our site for your car), installing a DSSR and new selector joint to fix the side-to-side play. As long as you don't change the shifter rod, you should still have the same throw but with far less play once those other items are replaced.
