    I installed my TKO 600 5 speed in my mustang and it seems to be a little clunky thru the shifts? Not as smooth as I would of thought? Does it just need to be broken in or what? It shifts some what easier after it warms up but still clunky?

      Did you purchase it through us? If so, give our techs a call at 888-609-0070 and they'll help you diagnose. If not, did you check your bellhousing runout and make sure it was within spec for the TKO? Are you using an approved fluid (GM or Penzoil Synchromesh, TREMEC HP-MTF, Dexron/Mercon ATF, or Mobil 1 ATF are the only approved fluids)? Do you have any difficulty getting into first gear from a stop?

    • @SilverSportTransmissions
      @SilverSportTransmissions  3 года назад

      None of the TREMEC dealers were authorized to speak about the TKX. The TKO is an excellent transmission, 10s of thousands of people are very happy with their TKO. However, if you have buyer’s remorse, you can try calling your dealer to see what they say or listing the transmission on an online marketplace. There are many people out there looking for TKOs; we’re still selling them every day.

      I agree Doug. I got my 600 9 months ago and i hate the way it shifts. Tremec could've, and should've improved the shifting on that transmission a long time ago. the fact is they knew how to make it better, just use t56 shift rings or whatever it is. (SST, my BH allignment is dialed in, i'm using Tremec MTF, and the driveline angles are within spec) this really PMO!!

      @@chris2-459 Hello Christopher, There is no reason for a TKO600 to shift badly. I looked for your purchase in our files but was unable to locate it. Perhaps you purchased it under a different name? At any rate, if you are having a problem with your TKO600 shifting, please call our Technical Advisors at SST and they will be glad to help you diagnose the problem.

    67 Fairlane FE engine no console. Tunnel cut? Input shaft? Number of splines? Cross member? Is there a short shaft version available as of 4/23, or is a spacer plate still required and do you stock?

    • @SilverSportTransmissions
      @SilverSportTransmissions  Год назад

      You don't have to cut the tunnel of the 67 Fairlane. You can choose between 10 or 26 spline input shafts. It will reuse your stock crossmember. We have a short shaft and a spacer; your choice. The short shaft is more expensive than the spacer.

    Tremec should have addressed the lack luster 2-3 ratio spread instead of taking some of the overdrive out of it.
    I would much rather keep the .64 in the 600, and see Tremec with maybe a 1.34 3rd gear. As it stands right now 1.89 2nd to 1.28 3rd is a big drop, twice as much as the overdrive. Fix 3rd gear and you would be much closer to a true close ratio trans. Leave overdrive alone.
    Just my thoughts on it. I've used a bunch of the 600's. I do like the slim case and higher rpm capability of the new TKX though.

    • @DeathByLego
      @DeathByLego 3 года назад +1

      So, in dummy talk.
      Can you explain the difference between the wide/close gear ratios?.?

    • @firebirdjone
      @firebirdjone 3 года назад +2

      @@DeathByLego A close ratio is just a closer gear spread so there isn't as much rpm drop between gear changes. A wide ratio would be the opposite. For instance, the 1.28 3rd to 1:1 4th is a close ratio and is identical to the M-21 3-4 gears. However the 1.89 2nd to a 1.28 spread from the 2-3 change on the TKO600 is a very large spread and subsequently quite a bit of an rpm drop.
      TKO always referred to the 2.87 TKO600 as their close ratio model but in reality only 1 gear change is really close ( the 3-4). 1-2 isn't horrible but could be slightly better, the 2-3 is a bunch, 3-4 doesn't really need to be that close, and 5th was just fine. It's really noticed when driving around town and slowing for a turn. Coming out of 4th to 3rd really isn't enough, so you have to use 2nd and most cases it ends up being a bit much. A 1.34 3rd gear would be helpful and help bridge the gap.
      The trans that really had it right was the LGT700 with it's 2.66/1.78/1.30/1:1 but the .69 overdrive was a little less than I prefer. Unfortunately that trans never got off the ground for long. I'm more of a fan now of the Cobra spec T5 with 2.95/1.91/1.34/1:1 and a .63 overdrive. Very nice ratios and works fantastic with 3.73's. Anyway, hope that helps.

    • @DeathByLego
      @DeathByLego 3 года назад

      @@firebirdjone would most people notice these?
      Do you think the gear ratios matter for calmy cruising and the occasional rapid acceleration?
      I’d like to get the TKO or maybe the TKX in my near distant future - hooking up to a crate 350.
      Ahh, the turn thing clicked. I usually slow down a gear bit or I go up a gear(don’t want that much power coming outa a turn).

    • @firebirdjone
      @firebirdjone 3 года назад +1

      @@DeathByLego It doesn't really matter to most people. The only complaint I've seen the most is the .64 overdrive and the drop from 4th to 5th but I never understood that myself. The complaint was coming from guys stating their engines wouldn't pull it, and too much rpm change to drop to 4th, which I thought was funny because my little DZ 302 with 3.55's out back has no trouble at all pulling the car around in 5th gear with the .64 ratio, even climbing the mountain grades as slow as 55 mph. So I guess guys complaining with much larger engines must be in a really sad state of tune. Yet the 2-3 change with a .61 ratio drop, nearly twice the overdrive drop, goes unchecked?
      It's still a great trans, I'm sure you'll be happy with it. The overdrive will completely transform your car and driving experience. I highly recommend it.

    I have a 240Z that uses a 280ZX turbo 5 speed It uses the Ford narrow. It's essentially Non world-class T5 out of a Mustang with a different bellhousing. Is that the same Ford bolt pattern That you would find in an 80s Mustang?

    • @alltheboost5363
      @alltheboost5363 3 года назад

      So I did my own research and came to the realization that they only do the Ford wide pattern.... smh which is stupid. They should do the Ford narrow pattern. how many Mustang guys are going to want to buy that transmission. But what they're going to have to use an adapter plate. I mean how hard is it to drill another pattern. They make this transmission Solely for people to swap into Vehicles.... why don't they make each transmission a dual pattern.

    • @SilverSportTransmissions

      No, the TKX uses the old Ford Toploader 4 speed bolt pattern which is different than T5.

    • @classics289
      @classics289 3 года назад

      Weird that it is Toploader "butterfly" pattern AND you need a spacer in order to bolt it to a 60's ford bell housing. Do you need a spacer for big and small block engines? And if so, I imagine they would be two different thickness spacers. Is the output spline count 31 or 28? Also does the mechanical speedo location clash with the cross member? It looks close.
