I did the NASCAR Racing Experience a few years back at Talladega racetrack. My top speed was 161. Also did a lap on motorcycle at same track years before that. Both were fun.

That bushing you were looking at is the "pilot bearing."
That throwout bearing is totally hydraulic, just like a brake caliper piston. It is spring-loaded and compressed against the spring in place, and then the fluid forces it out to actuate the clutch pressure plate.
I had a Pontiac back in the 60s or 70s that had a racing clutch that I could have used one of those on.
Dragging main on Saturday night was a bear. My leg would start shaking after a while. 😂😅😂😅
A lot of gear boxes nowadays use automatic transmishiin fluid.
Can't wait to see you put it together.
    See ya, Mike.

Thanks Werner. I honestly had no idea how the thing worked. I need to read the instructions! 😅 I am now realizing that ALL of the stock gearbox shifting bits and pieces will not be reused.

I'm sure you have this done by now. You missed one warning on the front page of the instruction manual. You are instructed to shift through all the gears as it sits level. The reason is, during shipping the trans might be up ended or positioned in any other position then level and the rods inside can drop out of place. If so, follow the instruction for fixing it.

That 5 speed conversion is going to pay dividends in drivability, engine life and mileage.

Those packaging warnings are serious. You may want to just save yourself all that hassle and donate it to me!

Just bought the same for my C2. Was hoping you were further along so I could see your challenges and avoid them! Will you be installing with or without a removable crossmember?

The existing crossmember remains intact. There is a mount that comes with the kit that bolts the transmission to the existing crossmember. But I have to wait until I'm done with the engine assembly before dropping into the car.

With a new engine, I’m guessing you’re bolting up & installing as a unit (engine + trans) - I’ll be bolting up to an installed engine.

Nice! Did you consider the T56 6 speed? Just wondering about decision of the 5 speed, if you have any advice?. I recently bought a '77 C3, cool blue color and has sidepipes!

I did consider it and was looking into it several weeks ago and it seemed like a more complex installation.
