He approaches jazz from a more bluesy perspective though. That's why he picks standards like these: you can just play the D blues scale and get it away with it. They also play the bridge differently so there is no modulation. Probably because Tommy is more comfortable this way. Don't get me wrong: I like his approach!
I can admit to myself I will never be the musician you are Tommy, but that's ok, at this point my goal is to try to love life as much as you do. Your playing and laughter nurtures the soul. Thanks for sharing your amazing gift.
He is so damn inventive. Both these guys are masters, no question, but Tommy has that ever so rare thing in music, a unique voice. Taking nothing away from Martin Taylor, but there are a few other players who could think of what Taylor thinks of and have the technical chops to pull it off. Not many, and not me. But it's what Tommy HEARS that is so creative. He hears things that no one else ever has, like Django did, and Jimi, and a few more obscure players like George Barnes or Lenny Breau. He does it over and over and over - every clip of him here has that same originality. He really is a once in a lifetime player. And also... don't you love that his ax is such a mess?!
Imagine all the practice and dedication it takes to make artists like them. They are like one in billions. Speechless! They make it look so easy but in reality it would take weeks for a 'normal' guitar player to play even just a short part of some of their compositions. I can only imagine, only imagine to play so fluid! They are some blessed souls. I feel so inspired to see such great people play. It makes me wanna improve not just my guitar playing abilities but also everything that I do.
Believe me, I went to sleep yesterday and I couldn't wait until the morning to listen to this piece again. Now it's morning and I can finally enjoy it.
Nothing better than seeing the look of absolute pure joy on the faces of two of the finest guitarists you'll ever have the pleasure to hear : ) "music is life, music is love, make it"
HEAVEN IS SHOWING US SOME WONDER TALENTS!!!!! GREAT PLAYERS!!!!!!! FANTASTIC!!!! "BLUES WIZARDS OF THE GUITARS"....YOU HAVE HEAVEN & EARTH JIVING IN YOUR RYTHM & FANTASTIC MELODY VARIATIONS..GREAT PLAYING!!
These two masters are such a joy to watch and listen/comprehend what they're doing. Peerless/priceless!!! btw they've 2.2 million hits here, so they're def doing something beholden to us peons/wannna-bees ha
They were just having fun! The level of skill required to pull off THAT performance as if it were just a random exercise is truly hard to comprehend. Fantastic!
The two of you guys have been blowing minds, including mine, for years and in the past when we've talked, you're as humble as the day is long. Thank you both!
Every few years I discover a new musician. It's not like i haven't heard their music before, it's that at some point I really listen to what they have to say with their instrument. It began with a guitarist named Travis Womack, then Rory Gallagher, Carlos Santana, Jimmy Page, Clapton, Gatemoth Brown, Phil Keaggey, SRV, David Gilmour, Beck, Joe Bonamassa. All are such excellent players And now Tommy Emmanuel! Well what can you say! He is totally unique in the way that he approaches the guitar. I play rhythm guitar so when I hear what he does it makes me want to be better at what I do. Thank you Mr. Emmanuel for sharing Gods gift with the world!
Yes, In San Luis Obispo he played with Peppino and two others whom I cant remember their names. Martin is filled with so much energy whomever he plays with.
---All the good times you offer us both, should be reimbursed by the social security ! Martin, you are a huge acoustic guitarist. A real treat! Thank you a thousand times. ---
this is so joyous! two guys playing fluent guitar together. Just super. I've known such joy in playing too but it has never sounded so great as this. Don't ever stop.
I'm a huge fan of Tommy's music. I've been watchin' this video (and the others too) a lot of times, almost everyday, and I was wondering how someone can dislike it. I mean, if you don't like this, you have a very bad taste of music and moreover why do you dislike the video ? RUclips vote system should be "Like or leave"
Couldn't agree more with you both. I really think the people who 'dislike' these videos are either trolls with nothing better to do or clueless people who probably have no videos up because they can't play shit! How can you criticise something you don't get?
You know what I like so much about Tommy, ( Other than him being the best guitarist I've ever heard! ) ; He REALLY enjoys playing with other people !!!
Wauuuuuuu.... w !!! :) Admire! Melting, disappearing whie listening to this! Pure admiration and feeling happy of being alive and having a chance to listen to THIS! HUGE THANKS!
What always amazes me about Tommy in particular is how many tunes he knows and can play at a virtuoso level. I find the more I learn the more difficult it becomes to maintain songs and remember things. At present I've familiarized myself with a lot of jazz tunes, but feel like throwing my guitar off a cliff when I see playing at this level. I sort of hit a brick wall and realize I'll never be 1/10 as good. I'm sure others here feel the same, it's difficult to know what song to work on and how to get better when players like this are eons ahead. Tommy is a walking music encyclopedia. How you can play a random tune at that level off the cuff beats me, to pick any tune and be able to play like that. It is very intimidating Tommy haha!
yep, Oscar Peterson was the same on the piano, I think they have the musical equivalent of a a photographic memory - there does not seam to be any re-learning going on with these guys. When Tommy get's together with his brother Phil (o' yeh, if Tommy's skill is not already frustrating you enough, there's two of them!), he just slides straight back into any tune called up from 30, 40, and sometimes 50 years ago. They are guitar geniuses.
Wow! One of the best renditions of Bernie's Tune yet, and easily one of the top 5 music videos on RUclips. A brilliant performance and a real treat for me. Thanks for posting this.
and I am also Bernie.. and also know how to play my version of the song. different tune. Very song and you both have a pretty killer arrangement. It is always great to hear and see your music.
Love how Tommy can go from country, to jazz, to gypsy so fluidly.
He approaches jazz from a more bluesy perspective though. That's why he picks standards like these: you can just play the D blues scale and get it away with it. They also play the bridge differently so there is no modulation. Probably because Tommy is more comfortable this way. Don't get me wrong: I like his approach!
True that
Both are able to do that kind of things ! Pure fun .
Tommy Emanuel = Maestro
señor Martin Taylor ain't no slouch... either

erm....there is another guitarist playing here
Tommy plays guitar so I don't have to. He saved me a lot of trouble.
@@timdawson15 Duh? Who wouldn't know there are two people playing? You're weird.
Tommy is such a great rhythm player.
He's great at everything haha:)

earlier he started playing rhythm for a long time and for the most of the gigs i guess .
Different level in a different galaxy in a different universe.
That's what multiple decades of training and theoretical knowledge will do to your playing.
@RUclipsr - I wish you were right. The mysterious "gift" is also a necessary ingredient.

Sumrit Chamber I
it’s such a beautiful thing to see someone perform at the highest level of their craft, especially one like TE who you can tell loves it so much
Wonder if Martin Taylor prefers Martin Guitars or if he would rather play a Taylor Guitar?
Martin body with a Taylor neck? Or vice versa?
haha, good point. Then he chooses a Gibson lol
hope that's not his middle name!
Just logged in to upvote that comment. Brilliant ;)
Gibson Fender is a great guitarist.
0:48 to 1:06 That walking bass with theses chords mixed so well together. My fav part.
have you seen the video where tommy gives bernies tune lessons? That version is a very good one too!
@@diegoexcero Thank you

These two guitarists are among those that I appreciate so much, that they make me want to sell all my guitars, and just listen to them.
Du talent à l'état pur. Merci pour ce moment de bonheur.

Brilliant playing. Two stellar guitarists. Top players...
Joy, pure joy every time I hear Tommy play anything. The other fellow I'm not familiar with was wonderful too.
The 'other fellow' is known to jazz guitar lovers.. Among the top players in the world
自然なアドリブ、そのままを記録してくれるし、それを観れるのが堪らなく嬉しい!

Avec une guitare entre les mains ou un pinceau au bout des doigts, vous êtes sacrement talentueux@
Ca fait du bien,merci!
This is something I would play at a party. What a gem.
Martin you're lucky man (you deserve it). If I was to jam with Tommy he would spend the entire session weeping !!!!
I think I see the ghost of Django Reinhart smiling down from guitar heaven saying, "These guys are my boyz!"
Il m'a dit récemment "je voudrais bien jouer avec ces gars".
I knew Django's wife in Tel Aviv, a fantastic lady who is quite a musician (She tried to teach me guitar but I'm all thumbs). NYC of Music Alum?
@@OldGuy2-m4c Wow! That sounds cool! How did you meet her? Was she his first wife?
It is wonderful to watch Martin flow as set the constructs to the beautiful and timeless Piece. Thank you to the both of you.
You can see you're both having so much fun with this. Love that kind of playful jamming.
Just beautiful, great, thanks Tommy Emanuel and Martin Taylor , no words !
La mejor versión de Bernie´s Tune para mi.
