The secret of the dungeon is to trust their directions and not even look in your mirrors. 100% focus on them and you'll be exactly where they want you with two inches to spare all round. The arguments and damage occurs when the drivers ignore the instructions. I did it many times and I found it a ball ache mainly because you ended up 4 to a cabin when it's that busy. Thanks for reminding me a part of driving I'd forgotten all about lol
Hi Sherrain, Thanks for this 'basement view' of the ferries. Makes me realise why, as a small van driver, I sometimes had to wait ages before little nuisances like me were let on board! Great video. So glad I found you!
Great stuff Ms Ballard. That guy really knew his stuff😮 I didn't even know this happened on ferries, I thought it was all ramps. Well done for your patience and trust in him👍🏼
Hi I love watching your videos I'm a retired truck driver now ...but I love your professionalism and you all ways seem to keep your cool ..like some drivers always seem to complain or moaning about the job ..I loved it yes you do get problems but so does a lot of jobs ...Well done you.keep making your videos👍
" Are you being served. " Loved that programme as well. I have watched lots of videos of long distance lorries, but never seen one with that content, it was really interesting. Enjoy your day, may it always be sunny and no traffic jams.🤣🤣x
Hello Sherralin , love Your videos with Your running commentary absolutely a joy to watch , the Man doing the parking in the Dungeon , must be the most patience person around , doing His job every day , the TV show was Are You Being Served .... I also watch another Trucker , this one is here in Australia , He drives a road train , with 3 trailers , His biggest problems are Wide Loads , up to 7mts wide , Stupid People towing caravans and the Wild life , Love Your work , stay safe , Cheers Dave ......
I watch some Australian ones too. I follow Australia Cattle Carters. I’d love to give some of those adventures a go. You have so much room out there compared to us. I also follow Sam, The Travelling Jackaroo, his adventures in his are epic and all for charity. Thanks for watching. 😁👍🏻
Only watch You and 2 other truck driver , Tony with His 3 freezer/chiller vans , and another driver towing 2 trailers , but still does the Traps to protect His load , which is a dying art , I have seen the Traveling Jackaroo driving His old Chamberlain Tractor , So You know Livestock Carriers have the right of way , even the Wide load trucks have to give way to them by the Law , Thanks for Your reply ....@@GBtrucklady
I thoroughly enjoyed that! I used to work with trains and things like understanding width, running room and clear space and being able to take sole direction from others was tough at first but eventually after repeating the process time and again, you made it work! Plus I love ferry operations and everything to do with the stowage of heavy road (and rail) vehicles on a ship fascinates the Hell outta me!
Reminds me of the time I loaded onto a Ro-Ro ferry that had rammed the dock and the front door would not open. Trucks had to reverse off and other vehicles turn round. I was towing a trailer smaller than the truck and could not be seen in the mirrors. The crew were not used to this type of unloading and so not as skilled as your lot. Great vid presentation, keep it up thanks.
Reminds me of one car trip Cairnryan - Belfast with Stena in the 2010's. They stuck loads of cars in the cellar (me included), never been up/down so many ramps in my life outside of a multi story carpark.
just stumbled on your vlogs. The guys and gals directing are superb. As you say you have to trust them and stay calm. Great job and very interesting. Wish i had done European work when i was driving in the 80s and 90s. Cheers Colin
First time watching any of your videos and that was a brilliant first one! Whilst not a lorry driver, I can relate to that sense of not being in control on the lift. I live in the Tokyo area and I was driving my friend's car out of an underground carpark which had a lift just like this one. It didn't feel right at all! Very unnerving the first time. I thought the person guiding you was very clear and quite patient.
I was put into the Dungeon with my coach, other coaches, multiple motorbikes and several camper vans on a Pont Aven crossing from Portsmouth to Santander. The sea conditions were awful on the crossing, so bad that when we got to Santander, the bow doors would not open. Several camper vans disappeared in clouds of clutch smoke on the reverse out up the ramp, a couple of the bike had tank slaps on the wet deck turning round, and I was the last coach out, 4 hours after we arrived and then had to turn the ship around........
I really enjoyed that video Sheralin as I have traveled that route many many time , due to me only driving rigid I never got put down the dungeon on that particular crossing how ever I always wanted to know how it worked , well now I know , have you a great safe weekend xxxxxxx
I used to use the ferries with a 6 wheeler and rear mounted Manitou forklift which always used to catch on the ramps going up or down usually resulting in wheelspin and no traction. The transporters were even worse, overhangs front, rear, and back end of the unit. Eleven car loads weren't exactly fun as they are high to start with and part of it is for turning gaps, trimming an extra inch or two out of the load and then waiting for the crunch when turning or going up/down a dip aged me ten years every time I did it.
Never done the dungeon and hate having to pull the mirrors in . Might as well put a blindfold on 🤣. Got to trust those guys guiding and TBF they do it all day everyday. Still it would make anxiety levels go up a bit. Thanks for the upload and take care.

@@GBtrucklady always went on car ferries to France 🇫🇷 in the 80's. Dad driving the cavalier. One year an old man couldn't drive up the ramp. Someone had to push him! Lol 😂 No channel tunnel then. Yes he does and you have to trust him. 😁
What a job manoeuvring down there, you need a medal !
😂😂 it’s just patience and practice 😁👍🏻
Very interesting, with a lift operating on a cantelever arm for such a load.
A lot of trouble for about 16 lorriers.
Hi Sherrian back in 80s we used to go on lift to go up a deck on freight ferry out of pompey
Yes we used to on the freighters out of Poole too. The Purbeck & The Coutance.
Ah yes the purbeck....I ate on that boat and survived...what a barge that was!
It's lots of hard work for the ship personals also for you Ma'am.

Yes I’m sure it is. 😀
That’s a joy getting into the corner of the Normandy, have they still got the neon coloured carpet on that boat.
Can’t remember what colour it is, I’ll have a look next time. 😂😂
What a place to test your nerves and reversing skills!
my 3 yr old grandson was fascinated with the lift, and so i was i too :):)
Great! Thank you both for watching 😁👍🏻
Very good driving
Thank you 😁
Great video.
That looked like a right lot of hard work, how do the lorries with cameras on stalks instead of mirrors get on, do those stalks fold in ??
I don’t know to be honest. They do stick out the same distance as normal mirrors so I guess you’d need to be very careful.
Done that a few times when I was on international work, and you haven't got a lot of wiggle room 😂
Hi. I've been on that ferry lots of times. I'm pleased they don't ask coaches to go down. What a nightmare.

I wonder how fast this could be done with some 360 camera on thr top of the trailer at the back.

😂😂 That’s Brittany Ferries MV Normandy.
How big is the fleet of your company?

"Down to them" good luck with that! How much cheaper is the ticket 😅
