With my Model Y, Autocharge at EVgo is about 45 seconds. I'm hanging on suspenders, LOL. At a Supercharger it's 6-7 seconds. I don't have have plug and go for EA. ...... I can use my EVgo card at Chargepoint and I start getting a charge in about 10 seconds at Chargepoint when I use my EVgo card. Faster than Autocharge at EVgo! ........ Great video!
Fun test. Thanks Liv and Patrick! The one thing I will say about EVgo's Delta chargers is that they have an extremely slow start up regardless of activation method. At some point, it might be worth testing this out on some of EVgo's other chargers (they still have 150 and 350 kW ABB and BTC Power in Baker, I believe). I know their 50 kW ABB units start extremely fast on the Bolt EV.
I have a Tesla Model Y. This is my second EV. The first one was a Chevy Bolt. I had it for 5 years and loved it but the Tesla became available. I have an adapter for CCS Chargers which I used on some occasions. I am glad to see non Teslas using Superchargers.
Thanks for the video. We needed to get a “get home” charge last week and used an EVGO station in Bellingham Washington. We connected for 11 minutes and got about 11.8kwhs of electricity charge for $7.80. This was an “in network” site on our Ford Pass App and I thought it should be plug and charge but that didn’t work. I needed to use a credit card. I was also disappointed and confused because the cost came out to $0.66/kwh. Like I said only our 2nd public charging experience but was a lot more expensive than my expectation. We normally charge at home, maybe if we take a road trip we should see if we can get a monthly membership on a couple EV charging companies.
Funny, I didn't know where you guys are based, and I live near Seattle and almost never DC charge, but a few weeks ago I was at that exact same EA location in Oceanside. Small world? :) cheers and thanks for the vid
Really cool vid. I didn't mind the beeping at the EVgo station, it was the Tacos sign behind you that kept distracting me. Give me a Tee, Give me an Aye, Give me a See, give me an Oh, What's that spell? What's that Spell? 🌮🌮🌮 Blew my socks off Tesla & Ford had PlugNCharge ready to go on day 1. Loved your vids on debut day. Paradigm shift where everyone wins.
Great Video! Any TIPS/TRICK with charging at home? My biggest challenge is plugging the Mach e in at home and having it NOT charge. I live in Iowa and most of the time I want to precondition (warm) the cabin in the morning but don't need a charge. I don't want to charge the Mach e unless it needs it. When it does need a charge I only charge to 70% as my commute is only 40 miles. I also don't want to trigger a remote charge to 100% from my phone. I end up plugging in the car and then stopping the charge with my FordPass app before I leave the garage. WAIT did I just figure it out??? Can the cabin precondition (warm up) without being plugged in? Again, range it not an issue at all because my commute is only 40 mile round trip. Makes you wonder.
The Tesla adapter isn't shipping until August/Sept 2024 unfortunately. Bought a new 2023 Mach e Prem AWD 91kwh last week and the Ford dealer assured me the Tesla adapter would be shipped soon- what a lie. Now I have to deal with the broken and out of service EA stations in OC that have always been a nightmare. Dont buy a mach e or F150 lightning thinking you can charge at a Tesla charger like these guys. Apparently Ford sent out all of them the so called "influencers" to try and move the 14,000+ unsold mach e's on dealer lots. Beware.
Adapter starts shipping in April depends on when you ordered from Ford. I have a May date. Sorry you need to use DC fast chargers so much. EV really not convenient unless you have home EVSE. Good luck!
Same here. I ordered my adapter day 1 and my ship date is August. So disappointed in Ford and the fact that they have all these influences going around saying we can charge at Teslas already.
Shipping started this month. My neighbor has his ship date March. Mine is June and my brother is September. All three of us ordered day one we all got different ship dates.
I wonder how much of a difference it makes if you check the screen inside the vehicle to see if it is charging. My guess is that it would reduce the time to start the charge.
It's currently out of stock and they have a huge backlog: www.ford.com/product/ford-fast-charging-adapter-nacs-p2999073032 You might want to consider one from A2Z or Lectron: mustangmacheclub.org/nacs-adapters-a2z-typhoon-vs-lectron-vortex/
So I have owned nothing but mustang GT’s 5.0 since 2012, all manuals. Bought my first Mach E GT performance edition just over a week ago. Purchased strictly for the instant torque which is great. But honestly having a hard time adjusting to charging vs the pump. Chargers are all slow in my opinion and if I am comparing charging to filling my tank, I charge much more than hitting a gas station. Hoping to get over this but admittedly it’s been a difficult adjustment.
Hey congrats! That's a big switch with understandable challenges! I'd love to hear more about your charging situation. Are you able to have home charging? Do you use Plug Share? Which stations have you been using? What's your area like? - Liv
If you’re charging at home, that is usually the least expensive per kw. Charging at DCFC is for road tripping basically only. Cost is similar to gas vehicles….. Bill P
@@MachE_VLOG I have a 240V outlet in my garage for level 2 charging. As far as chargering outside my house I have tried EV Connect, EA, EVgo, and Charge point. None in my opinion have been overly impressive with regard to speed. I am abiding by the 20/80 charge rule with the exception of Sunday evenings I charge to 90%. It’s difficult to adjust having to wait 15-30 minutes versus seconds to maybe 2 minutes at a pump. I’m in the Charlotte, NC area and Tesla seems is the dominate EV in the area. Waiting on my adapter from Ford so I can experience the Tesla super charging stations.
You are more expensive than my area in Oregon. Typically i am paying 35 cents (+-/-) at Superchargers. One site near me is as low as 16 cents. Its one of the newest ones with V4 cabinets. No idea what non Teslas will be paying.
The biggest problem with the USA is the lack of fast chargers and increasingly the problems with Tesla chargers, maybe because Tesla fired their maintenance staff. I charge at home but when I travel there is often a line of people at the ev chargers
Great info, but plug & charge is meaningless for me if I can't connect my Electrify America account to get the member discount through P&C. Come on @ford!
Okay. Startup initiation: 33 seconds (EVGo), 56 seconds (EA), 25 seconds (J3400). Good to know, but not really that different: anything under a minute is just fine. What I'm even more interested in is the charging speed and kW. I might be wrong, but suspect that EA, at its hyper 350kW units, will charge my I5 (if preconditioned) from 10% to 80% in 18 minutes. That's faster than my previous Tesla could charge. One thing I don't understand is that, to use EA, I have to tap my phone over the reader on the charger first. You don't have to do that? Because your Mach-E is on EA's plan…?
IMO 56 seconds seems like an eternity when you're outside during stormy weather, especially since most chargers don't have canopies. EA is nearly twice as long as the competition so hopefully this can be improved with software.
@@jrwaters943I agree every 15 seconds seems like an eternity. You have to remember savy EV users understand but the regular user would think what the heck? And that is a valid point. Taking nearly a minute to tell you something is wrong & have to start over is forever.

"Charging makes fools of us all." EVgo, in particular, has EXTREME variation between the numerous makes and models of chargers/dispensers they use when it comes to Autocharge+ activation times. The huge advantages of Autocharge+ are 1) not losing your CPO discount through Ford Pass interference and 2) no phone required so local data speed not as important. May be less secure, though. I recall MagicDock activation time to be faster, but I did not record the time when testing with Mach-e. Can you use the Tesla app to charge a Ford equipped with the J3400 adapter?
Yes. And you get 30% cheaper prices with their plan. Either for only the month you're on a trip, or the $99 one time payment for a whole year if you plan to use them a lot. I doubt Ford owners will use EV or EVgo anymore. Only as a backup.
Liv, new subscriber here. Great content, but wondering if I need a new computer because your hair looks green. Or, are you prepared for St Patty’s Day?
Nice video. However the most reticent EV users might still behave like my family in areas with DC charging deserts. The way we have our road trips just once/twice a year, we keep out Chevrolet Bolt EUV just for commute charging it always home, while using the Chrysler Pacifica eHybrid PHEV for road trips, using gasoline. Localy we use our PHEV mostly on electric power charged AC at home. Living in Idaho I let the DC public charging wars go by and wait for much better times to plunge into road tripping using a BEV.
