Great video about the incentives and the challenges of owning an EV without home or work charging. Thanks for also touching on L1 & L2 charging as well. I've owned a 2023 VW ID.4 for 13 1/2 months now, which I absolutely love. I live in an apartment without home charging, but I L1 charge at work for free daily, which easily covers my 37 mile round trip commute even in the winter months. I live in KC which has a fantastic public L2 charging infrastructure with many of them being free. So on the weekends, I can L2 charge for free at my local grocery store while shopping, eating out, going to local parks, etc. I also have very cheap L2 charging next door to the laundromat I frequent so I charge while doing things I'd normally be doing every week anyway, which makes it very convenient.
I know my case scenario isn't the norm but it works for me and was planned prior to buying an EV. I think if you pre plan before buying an EV it can be feasible without home charging for apartment dwellers like myself. But you just can't buy an EV blindly thinking it will be the same as owning an ICE vehicle in terms of convenience, without having a charging plan in place that works for your situation.

I ended up with 11k in rebates and 4k in dealer discounts on the '25 Equinox EV, but electrical vehicles (at that time) were a super unfamiliar territory for me and the process was riddled with moments of second guessing myself.

The deals I’m seeing are very tempting. I’m considering leasing for a couple of years and then getting my dream car. I’m not holding out for breakthroughs in battery technology, but improvements like cooled seats, a heat pump and a lower price for the GT for example. I’m also considering a 2025 Ioniq 5. When I bought my current car in 21 there was little choice for EV’s and that has changed. So that’s a big improvement.

Thanks, Patrick and Liv! One note on the Bolt EV... I wasn't able to post the review due to family issues, but I reviewed the final MY of the Chevy Bolt EUV. Even though it was the most expensive (Redline) package, its MSRP was actually lower than the MSRP for my entry level, base 2017 Chevy Bolt EV 1LT. So these cars do naturally get cheaper over time, but could you imaging going 5 or 6 years just to save a few thousand dollars off the MSRP? Our time and life experiences are worth way more than that.

I charge my Mach-E with Level 1 at home. I don't have to drive in every day, but even if I did, I would generally be able to keep up on a weekly basis. My commute distance is 50 miles each day I go in. In the winter, I may eventually need a supplemental charge. Since there are chargers at work, this is covered.
The F-150 Lightning is great as it has a spare tire, a heat pump, and V2L capability.
I look at EVs like I do computers. There is always something better just around the corner, and one could wait forever on that next thing. For 2 car households, I think an EV should be seriously considered for the second car. Not everyone will want one for many reasons, but most should find an EV a viable options for the second car.

Some of the push for passing the incentives was that EVs were unaffordable to the majority of buyers. But now, I’d like to know if it worked. Do more buyers with incomes under the income limit actually buy EVs? Or are the majority of sales still being made by high income earning households?

If you need a new car-definitely get an EV. The deals for great EVs are too good to pass up. EVs are superior to gas cars in so many ways. The only thing to consider is how convenient is it to charge based upon your residential situation. If you rent an apartment-it could be inconvenient-but if you own-get one.

I believe the tax credits should disappear because they distort the market. Some of the best EV's aren't available in the US because they don't meet the IRA rules. Also the $4000 credit for used EV's selling at $25k is a tremendous pressure on used EV prices and is partially responsible for the high depreciation of new EV's.

Wait for the EV Crash of 2026: It's going to EPIC, and I predit in every case the depcreciation spiral will exceed both the used 4K and 7500.00 for NEW EV 's
that will expire in 2025, For example the 2024 Chevy Eqinox brand new or with under 25,000 miles will be worth just 20K to 25,000 and the
2025 model's will drop a minimum 10K to 15K as they're inventory's explode in 2026, so just be patient you'll save on average 12 to 15K by just waiting until 2026,
This primarily apply's to the TESLA's and other brands that qualifed for the expiring Federal TAX incentives,
One of the most interestign developments to watch in 2025, is what is Chevy going to decide with the 2026 Chevy BOLT EV ?
(are they still going to produce a 100% electric version or not, right now I'de say it's a 50/50 chance it is scraped completely, or goes into a hybrid model only
because Chevy does not feel comfortable investing in the 100% EV BOLT with a 30,000 plus price point unless they know they can produce it profitably with a minimum
275 mile range, and still come in under 30,000) Personally I would not buy the 2026 Chevy BOLT EV at even 30,000 with 275 miles of range, unless they inreased the basic warranty to
5 years 60,000 miles like KIA does, and I'de wait to see if TESLA releases the new Juniper Tesla rumored to have a 450 miles of range at under 45,000.
The other model to watch closely is the better built Kia EV3 at 350 miles of range might arrive in the U.S.A. by the end of 2025 under 35,000
we will know a great deal more about the future U.S. plans for this model, based on President Trump's tariff policy's,
but no one should feel intimidated to feel the need to buy an EV in 2025 because of the expirng tax incentives,
market forces of supply and demand will sort this out in 2026 organically,
