@@MetzTech The main problem is, that functionality that they're working on will require expensive LiDAR that most of their new vehicles will have only as an expensive option + subscription, and none of their current vehicles are capable of adding. So even if the software was ready today, they'd still be way behind.
Well, I d rather have a law preventing unassisted driving in the streets. Freeway is easier and safer. Who knows what people will do if they can take a nap whenever they want.
It actually does activate on "some" non highway roads. On my way to work, in Jax, FL, I encounter various stints where it's available on normal streets. I choose to not have it activated though because on those roads I encounter various red lights so it's easier for me to take control. I've used various forms of semi self driving in Hyundai, Genesis, Kia, Honda, Lincoln, Nissan, Acura, and Mazda and this is BY FAR the smoothest experience; especially when a car cuts in front of you or moves out of your way and there's another car in front of them. The transition from one car to the next is unmatched in my opinion; and I drive a heavy Sierra 1500.
I don’t even need coordinates to turn in on FSD on the city streets. No command, no guidance, just activate and it goes. Of course giving it an endpoint helps prevent being fettered endlessly until the battery is depleted.
I'll be honest, I kind of like you can engage it without a route. Like you said, it can just go wherever it pleases, sounds like a challenge I'd see on RUclips, 'Where will my Tesla take me?'. :)
So tired of people whining about Tesla having the nag and marking it down against tesla's self driving ability. the nags have 0 to do with the car's ability but are a business decision to appease regulators who made a huge case about tesla just letting ppl sit while the car drove. Even mainstream media put pressure on Tesla calling it unsafe because of not having nags. Ford and GM will switch to FSD anyway, so this debate is moot.
More importantly, making people keep their hands on the wheel is the safe approach. Other manufacturer's were wrong for going vision-only and Tesla is wrong about it now too. Reaction time matters.

I just bought a 2024 Traverse with Super Cruise. While it sounds like FSD is a primo system, Tesla doesn't have an SUV that can match the Traverse for size and hauling ability. So unless GM develops an FSD system, Super Cruise is my choice by default.
But FSD cannot read most signs: DO NOT ENTER ROAD CLOSED CROSS TRAFFIC DOES NOT STOP Just to name a few. FSD also has problems in multi-level parking structures, and avoiding potholes or broken glass in the road. FSD also does not move to the side of the road for Police or Ambulance with their sirens on.

It seemed like the first time you used SuperCruise, it wouldn't change lanes because there was traffic coming up on your left side and also it's possible that it won't make the change lane change immediately by itself or even when you click the blinker to initiate the change.
Even though FSD has eliminated the "nag" feature, you can't drive with sunglasses. That's got to make drives in sunny weather uncomfortable. The insistence on cameras for every function, say not using infrared for face monitoring, leads to a less than optimal solution.
Tesla even says that you can’t wear sunglasses. There is no way you see eye behind sunglasses with visible light. That is why Super Cruise uses six infrared LED emitters mounted in equal number on either side of the light bar at the top of the steering wheel.
FSD 12.4 changed the game. I didn’t have FSD when we had to jiggle the steering wheel every few minutes, because it defeated the purpose. Being hands free now made me subscribe. It’s worth it now.
Good review. I've watched a couple of Whole Mars FSD tests. They were on the streets where I live and I was able to get where FSD had ingenious route planning. It's a very difficult area with a lot of traffic.

Didn’t see an auto lane change with Super Cruise. Maybe the feature was turned off in settings?? I recently got an Acadia with Super Cruise. Using it, and even on a straightaway, the steering wheel jitters back and forth. Did yours? The amount is small. When I take over and manually jitter it that little, there’s no real directional effect.
You do get the first 3 years free. But that’s after paying an up charge to have it on your vehicle in the first place. People act like all GM vehicles just have it
@@DerekDavis213 I think it depends on where you use the system. Are you regularly taking a mapped highway to work and back each day? If so, sure, maybe GM's solution is fine for you. Are you regularly on residential streets, unmapped highways, or care more about it driving the 'last mile' as such? Then Tesla's solution will do a lot more for you. I'm limited to the older Autopilot system as I'm in the UK, but even then, I've used this for thousands of highway miles in multiple different countries, I also regularly use it on standard roads on the way to the store and back aside from a few hours I take over such as for turns or roundabouts. Unfortunately GM's solution can't do this right now. Tesla's older system is very limited in turns, as shown in this video, but at least it can be engaged at all for use on roads you know well and understand how it'll perform.

Supercruise is like an autopilot, where as FSD is like a co-pilot. Very different systems. What Supercruise does, it does very well. FSD is considerably more versatile, but it doesn't have the same level of polish. Supercruise isn't limited to highways, just mapped roads, which are mostly highways at this point, but there are a few main roads by me that are also mapped. The big comparison comes down to the vehicles as a whole though. The wife and I are big fans of Musk, SpaceX, and even the tech of Tesla, but we find Tesla vehicles to be exclusively designed for a particular consumer, which isn't us. We've no interest in making a statement. We just want a normal car, with intuitive and proven controls and layout, that is powered by electricity.

Is Telsa's FSD really better....I guess it depends on your definition. According to a recent analysis by The Washington Post of data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that discovered 736 crashes since 2019 in the United States involving Teslas driven on Autopilot. Tesla vehicles driven in Autopilot or “full self-driving mode” have been involved in far more accidents - including those resulting in at least 17 deaths and many serious injuries - than previously reported.
This is absolutely mind blowing. I can understand why Tesla has to wheel nag since it does so much more than any other system in basically any conditions in any location. I am still in shock at how insane the Model 3 is in what it can do. I thought my ultra-cruise was cool, but obviously I was wrong lol.
Furthermore, the version of FSD Tesla is about to release now is hands free with restriction (Sunglass, etc). Apparently, monitoring works well. What most non-Tesla fans don't get, is that Tesla is a evolving car. What they see now is probably what they are not going to see a year from now. And this applies to all EXISTING cars, not just the new ones. My Tesla is now 2.5 years old, and I'm still excited to get new software updates that make difference to my usecases.
I have the bolt euv. Great car!! I also just got the model y and I have to say. I will not be driving the bolt anymore. Software is much better on the model y. The autopilot and fsd feature are awesome.
So when it disengages to let you change lanes, Blue Cruise lets you manouvre and then you let go... that means for a second or 2 the car has no one in control during the transition? The blue light clearly show Cruise is off for that duration AND your hands are not on the wheel.
This is just a weird take. The review makes accurate statements but the editorializing makes them seem very comparable except for the "little things." Meaning every road except highways. As to Tesla's camera-only approach (no ultrasonic), it remains to be seen whether it's a "con." Tesla owners lamented the removal of the ultrasonic sensors in newer models but Tesla believes they are superfluous. So far, Tesla is right. Where they might matter are in tight parking situations, but certainly not on the highway.
Super Cruise does indeed do lane change and has street sign recognition. The advanced cruise control performs the functions you discuss for stop and go traffic. And I suspect the safety record for FSD is bad.
Sorry dumb question. But if a Super Cruise-equipped car was on non-mapped roads, would the adaptive cruise control and automatic lane centering work just fine?
Tesla FSD is in a category of its own. Regarding the next tier, I have a 2023 Subaru which has cruise control which is similar to but slightly inferior to Super Cruise because Super Cruise, where it has mapping, handles any curve but Subaru cruise control has no map at all and just fails to handle sharp turns.
So glad I watched this video. On the surface, Super Cruise looks great, but the lack of stop-and-go functionality is a dealbreaker for me. I live in Atlanta, so stop-and-go is more valuable to me than semi-autonomous driving, solely because I would use stop-and-go every day.
It is called Adaptive Cruise, and it is on all GM vehicles as standard feature, and it works great. SuperCruise, if available, requires Adaptive Cruise to be active.
I use FSD pretty much daily. I do Uber and I use it with Uber lol. People are continuously impressed. But it still has some issues. I don’t like the way it merges onto the highway. Accelerates too fast after making a turn. Breaks too hard sometimes at a yellow light. Sometimes definitely gets confused as to what lane to be in. But it’s 90% good you just have to watch it.
I've used FSD on the hwy and it worked well. It's new to me and I struggled to trust it. Honestly, it worked great. Seemed to change lanes A LOT. Sometimes it would get in the passing lane without moving back to the right lane. Great when traffic came to a stop suddenly. Also took the exit when I would have missed it. Tesla FSD was great for me.
With recent 50% price cuts (April '24), Tesla FSD now cost $8,000 for outright purchase or alternatively $99/mo or $1,200 yr vs Chev Cruise $2,700. So Tesla's FSD solution is nearly 3X the price. Got it. Maybe Tesla will slash the price again as they do appear to be getting desperate lately....with all of their price slashing on cars and now FSD.
SuperCruise is not $2700, it's $2500/mo + $25/mo forever. And comparing the two when they have vastly different capabilities is crazy. Porsche's are 3x the price of Mustang GTs, but that's for a reason.
One thing you should point out is Tesla has had basic autopilot since the model s in 2013. You can’t say Tesla can do this or that better without pointing out it wasn’t always as advanced as it is now. Super cruise will ad features but the main thing is it works on the interstate and that is where most people want it. Fsd you have to pay 12000 or a 200 dollars a month.
That makes no sense. First off GM is not using an end to end neural network ergo progress is limited to human heuristics. Also what matters is where we are now and how the tech progresses. Supercruise is a toy compared to FSD. Intelligence over perception.
I had a Chevy Bolt EUV with Super Cruise and it does really stink when you leave a mapped area and it just shuts off. I had a couple times where there was some minor construction that altered where exactly the highway was and I was unable to use SC on those stretches for months until they updated the mapping. Then there were times where it would just stop working with no feed back on why. Have a Tesla Model 3 now and in that regard I'm much happier.
It's like comparing a bike with training wheels to a professional road bike. there is no comparison but best to test drive for yourself and then you'll be even more convinced.
Autosteer will take sharp curves, it will slow down the car for the sharp turns. I use it all the time, and so I am familiar with what it can or can't do

Which is weird as even my cheap Ford Focus does it which isn't even promotes its system that much, yet it basically does everything this magical super cruise does, and little bit better.

After watching this, it's amazing to see how far ahead Tesla is from the competition. I hate that USS has been removed but I'm hoping with enough practice, Tesla Vision becomes even better than USS was.
Tesla just purchases a ton of luminar lidar, so they might actually have finally realized how shitty vision only based self driving is. Luminar had 10% of it's revenue this year so far come from tesla purchases ;)
I hope FSD's speed limit setting improves with 12.4. Right now changing an incorrectly adjusted speed setting is my most frequent intervention with FSD.
I’ve heard that a fair amount! I have only had that happen in one specific spot but it’s pretty annoying. It thinks the speed limit drops to 5 mph when it’s really a 35… not ideal 😅

Totally agree on questioning how people get AP strikes! I'm in Europe so I don't have FSD Beta, but we still have the vision based monitoring and the same 'Pay attention to the road' warning, but I've never once in 5 years of ownership had a forced disengagement. The car gives you endless warnings, both visual and audible, and yet somehow people complain that it only gave them all that 3 or 5 times on different days and believe they were wrongfully suspended from using the system for a while? I have no idea what people are doing but it sounds like they're delusional.
Have you been able to locate where in the equinox EV's computer module is located? In the EUV it takes up half the dpare wheel area... really curious where its at in the equinox EV.
You have to select lane change and auto lane change in the menu for super cruise. Then when you super cruise it will do what you have given it permission to do.
Considering that super cruise uses premapped highways, it makes me wonder if it will perform better than tesla fsd in suboptimal conditions like snow/night. Would be interesting to see how it performs after this winter.
Spoiler alert, it will never perform not even at 10% of what Tesla FSD can do. Premapped roads autonomous driving is NOT the optimal approach, Tesla has it very much right with their vision approach

For consumer products, Tesla's FSD blows everyone else out of the water. Supercruise is glorfied cruise control, and that's it. FSD is so much more than that, and it'll just keep getting better.

Just used FSD on a 1400 mile trip, and I think I drove for maybe 10 or less miles of it. Cant wait for the next update that tesla employees currently have, where you can stay hands off the wheel while using it.
My parents have their own bolt euv and I have a 2021 Model3. I do have to say the noise level is way better than my 3. But for everything else Tesla is more superior imo How is your new m3 noise compared to the Chevy?

No, and Yes, respectively. You can direct it on the fly from the screen; but if you try to do this while you're moving you'll probably get a "please pay attention to the road" warning. But you can also do it with a voice command. push the right scroll wheel, and say "Take me to Costco in Santee" and you'll be re-routed.

I disagree. I don't think it's a good idea to let the user turn the wheel without disengaging. It makes it less clear when the car is in control. I also don't like that Tesla switched to camera-only. This is less safe. Drivers should always have their hands on the wheel, until it's truly robotaxi-level. Reaction-time is huge in avoiding accidents. Also, it's super easy to defeat the vision system. You can just hold your phone past the wheel and the camera can't see it...
my first trip out I got my first strike and lockout. I was on the freeway and it was doing it's thing and I heard a car long honking. I looked around trying to see who he was beeping at and the car flipped out and gave me a strike and locked out the who trip from FSD. So being observant landed me a strike. Other than that time 12.3.6 has been ok driving me 52 miles to work. On my way home however the maps always wants to take me a direction that is totally wrong and causes FSD to drive around a city block on a loop... and I mean a loop, it will drive around that one city block forever. I have not figured out how to report the issue. It is no good!!! Google maps, Waze... no issue, Tesla maps thinks it can exit the city via a road that is one direction and FSD will try and take that path and get stuck driving around that single block forever. I wanna sit at the restaurant at that block and film how many Tesla's get stuck in the loop. LOL
Yeah comparing a auto pilot cruise control vs Tesla's auto drive are 2 different things and not comparable at all, but you do a ok job comparing apples to oranges. It's a super cruise for when you would normally use your cruise control that's all.

Autopilot comes free but only works correctly on highways whereas fsd or supervised mean its full self driving and you just have to punch in the address and tesla will do the driving. Apparently this dude only had the basic autopilot thats why it struggles at making sharp turns. Fsd is 8000 dollars
Autopilot combines adaptive cruise control and auto steer and is included (no extra charge) when you buy the car. It has improved with time and frankly is all most people will need. At one time another for pay option was Enhanced Autopilot that added lane changes, stop lights and stops signs, highway departure, but this option has now been dropped. If you subscribe to FSD $100/month the enhanced features can be used without going to full FSD, or you can opt to use FSD. The subscription model is far superior to shelling out $8000 for FSD since the purchase is linked to the car and not the driver. Buy a new car and you lose your $8000 FSD. A subscription can be cancelled at any time.
What no one is mentioning is that FSD recognizes and obey traffic lights and traffic signs. It stops for red lights, drives when it turn green, stops for stop signs appropriately, performs right, left, and protected left turns. You basically put in and address and it goes there. I don't believe it parks the car nor takes it out of the parking spot yet.
Autopilot won’t make that sharp of a turn no matter what. I have all available driving systems, obviously as I was using FSD. Even when enhanced autopilot was a thing (which it no longer is)… it didn’t change how tight of a turn you could take it just added navigate on autopilot and would do auto lane changes.
Autopilot will give you a combo of Adaptive cruise and lane keeping/auto steering. Basically will keep you away from the cars in front of you and keep you in your lane on highways or city streets. As mentioned by others it’s all that most people need. Comes free and standard with all teslas. FSD will take you point A to point B. You put in an address and it just goes. Will do all the driving for you with just occasional nags(for now)
I suggest to many people to travel in an EV with Self Driving for summer holidays rather than fly. (Local airline is on strike today) As long as you are not going over water, and driving let's you experience the journey not the destination.
My model 3 is great in traffic, but it does stay pretty far back. Some people view that as the safe way, not my preference so I just give the accelerator a little tap to move up a bit
Well, isn't it essential to be able to use it anywhere? Thus the "super cruise" fail in principle?? Its only an assistent, not a driver. The "attention" required by FSD is legislated and required by the authorities and not a system issue, right? If not "forced" to engage then surely FSD should be able to not "bug" the driver all the time, or not?
Actually, FSD v12.4, which is rolling out now, *doesn't* bug the driver all the time, or ever; as long as you have the internal camera and it can see your eyes.
Well I waited for the GM Equinox EV to come out, but got tired of waiting. So I own the Tesla Model Y LR and enjoy all the features - and has some features that the Equinox does not provide. I did try the FREE 30 day trial of FSD version12.3..6 and was interesting, got me to my destinations, but did do a few things I did not like. FSD accelerates too quickly from intersections to get to speed limits which I didn't care for. Also the FSD would do allot of hesitations with shadows which was unnecessary. I decided not to purchase FSD at 99 dollars a month at this time because of just the short local trips I do. I feel I do not need this premium feature. Auto Pilot or Cruise control are adequate for me and they are both FREE with the vehicle and I hardly need or use these. Still with all that said above about FSD, it is still amazing what the feature can drive on any road or highway, in any town or city. Just select the destination, enable FSD, and it will take me directly to that destination. Of the two vehicles, I will still take my Tesla Model Y over the Equinox. I like the simpler interior design. So you don't have all the knobs and buttons, I do not miss them at all. If I don't remember where something is on the Display, I just use Voice Control and does the function I request. Thanks for the video.
I have thousands of miles of experience with SuperCruise on my Bolt EUV and it is fantastic. Unlike Tesla, it doesn’t promise something it can’t consistently deliver. I rented a Model S on Turo and found Autopilot a far inferior system. The Tesla was also prone to false collision warnings. SuperCruise works well in the dark and rain since it uses radar and camera rather than just camera. I don’t trust Tesla, they are using customers as beta testers for all these systems with often tragic results. Be safe out there

Many people disagree with you. Autopilot works so well that people forget that it is not Fully Self-Driving. Official testing by various agencies has proven Tesla to be safer than anything else out there.

I drove from Jersey to Indianapolis for the race abs I used the shit out of the FSD on my M3. I would not subscribe at $99 per month. Maybe at 30 per month.
I've used both extensively. I prefer supercruise because I don't like fsd on city streets and supercruise is smoother on highways plus you don't have to touch the wheel at all. SC is limited but on roads it's not supported in, I'd rather be in control anyways. Supercruise is better than fsd for medium and longer trips in my opinion. Your mileage may vary depending on whether you frequently drive on SC mapped roads or not.

Compared to FSD which works on all 5 million miles of highway, PLUS all surface streets, back alleyways, dirt roads, etc. I'll take FSD over supercruise all day.

@@DerekDavis213 I don't need to watch reviews, I own a 2024 Model 3 and drive with FSD daily for ~3+ hours a day. Is FSD perfect? Absolutely not, but using it alongside my normal drive makes driving infinitely more enjoyable and relaxing. The car does 95% of the driving and for those times that something comes up that it cannot handle I am there to takeover and continue on without any issue. FSD isn't throwing people off cliffs, the mistakes it makes are mild - it's overly cautious at times so you'll more than likely disengage if you're trying to get around an area quickly. And to be crystal clear, I am certain that FSD is a better driver than the majority of people on the road. People are absolutely awful at driving, over a million people die every year in auto accidents. How can you even begin to defend human drivers? Self driving is the future, and Tesla is the only company anywhere close to making that happen.
GM has always made a good EV. Ev1 was great in its day, Chevy Volt was awesome, Bolt is a good driver too. Smooth, quiet, excellent ride . I hope they have success.
Bolt is horrendous. But not because of the hardware, the software is a nightmare. The car is actually mostly made by LG. But GM neutered charging (in a software "update")and that damn car clogs up every quick charger I ever want to use. Had to switch to a Tesla to avoid those stupid things pissing me off to no end.
GM had to replace all the batteries in all of the Bolts sold. They to recall and put a stop sale order on the Blazer right after release. So other than that, GM makes good EVs, sure!

I was saying super cruise is $25/month after the first few years. So paying an additional $75 a month to get to the cost of FSD is worth it for the additional functionality

It actually does activate on "some" non highway roads. On my way to work, in Jax, FL, I encounter various stints where it's available on normal streets. I choose to not have it activated though because on those roads I encounter various red lights so it's easier for me to take control.
I've used various forms of semi self driving in Hyundai, Genesis, Kia, Honda, Lincoln, Nissan, Acura, and Mazda and this is BY FAR the smoothest experience; especially when a car cuts in front of you or moves out of your way and there's another car in front of them. The transition from one car to the next is unmatched in my opinion; and I drive a heavy Sierra 1500.

Bad analogy. Supercruise support 750,000 miles of roads in America. On *those* *roads* it does a better/safer job than FSD.
I don’t even need coordinates to turn in on FSD on the city streets. No command, no guidance, just activate and it goes. Of course giving it an endpoint helps prevent being fettered endlessly until the battery is depleted.
I'll be honest, I kind of like you can engage it without a route. Like you said, it can just go wherever it pleases, sounds like a challenge I'd see on RUclips, 'Where will my Tesla take me?'. :)

Super Cruise will not do auto lane changes because you need to set it to do auto lane changes in the settings.

I just bought a 2024 Traverse with Super Cruise. While it sounds like FSD is a primo system, Tesla doesn't have an SUV that can match the Traverse for size and hauling ability. So unless GM develops an FSD system, Super Cruise is my choice by default.
The difference between the HD map-based architecture and the AI architecture is night and day. Blues Cruise and SuperCruise are toys compared to FSD.

It seemed like the first time you used SuperCruise, it wouldn't change lanes because there was traffic coming up on your left side and also it's possible that it won't make the change lane change immediately by itself or even when you click the blinker to initiate the change.
Even though FSD has eliminated the "nag" feature, you can't drive with sunglasses. That's got to make drives in sunny weather uncomfortable. The insistence on cameras for every function, say not using infrared for face monitoring, leads to a less than optimal solution.

Tesla even says that you can’t wear sunglasses. There is no way you see eye behind sunglasses with visible light. That is why Super Cruise uses six infrared LED emitters mounted in equal number on either side of the light bar at the top of the steering wheel.

FSD 12.4 changed the game. I didn’t have FSD when we had to jiggle the steering wheel every few minutes, because it defeated the purpose. Being hands free now made me subscribe. It’s worth it now.

Good review. I've watched a couple of Whole Mars FSD tests. They were on the streets where I live and I was able to get where FSD had ingenious route planning. It's a very difficult area with a lot of traffic.

I recently got an Acadia with Super Cruise. Using it, and even on a straightaway, the steering wheel jitters back and forth. Did yours? The amount is small. When I take over and manually jitter it that little, there’s no real directional effect.
Is yours AT4? I have seen some reviews that say that AT4 steering jitters during SuperCruising because of the beefy tires.

Are you regularly taking a mapped highway to work and back each day? If so, sure, maybe GM's solution is fine for you.
Are you regularly on residential streets, unmapped highways, or care more about it driving the 'last mile' as such? Then Tesla's solution will do a lot more for you.
I'm limited to the older Autopilot system as I'm in the UK, but even then, I've used this for thousands of highway miles in multiple different countries, I also regularly use it on standard roads on the way to the store and back aside from a few hours I take over such as for turns or roundabouts. Unfortunately GM's solution can't do this right now.
Tesla's older system is very limited in turns, as shown in this video, but at least it can be engaged at all for use on roads you know well and understand how it'll perform.

Supercruise is like an autopilot, where as FSD is like a co-pilot. Very different systems. What Supercruise does, it does very well. FSD is considerably more versatile, but it doesn't have the same level of polish. Supercruise isn't limited to highways, just mapped roads, which are mostly highways at this point, but there are a few main roads by me that are also mapped. The big comparison comes down to the vehicles as a whole though. The wife and I are big fans of Musk, SpaceX, and even the tech of Tesla, but we find Tesla vehicles to be exclusively designed for a particular consumer, which isn't us. We've no interest in making a statement. We just want a normal car, with intuitive and proven controls and layout, that is powered by electricity.

Tesla has an excellent electric power train, and FSD has improved a lot with version 12.

According to a recent analysis by The Washington Post of data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that discovered 736 crashes since 2019 in the United States involving Teslas driven on Autopilot. Tesla vehicles driven in Autopilot or “full self-driving mode” have been involved in far more accidents - including those resulting in at least 17 deaths and many serious injuries - than previously reported.
This is absolutely mind blowing. I can understand why Tesla has to wheel nag since it does so much more than any other system in basically any conditions in any location. I am still in shock at how insane the Model 3 is in what it can do. I thought my ultra-cruise was cool, but obviously I was wrong lol.
Furthermore, the version of FSD Tesla is about to release now is hands free with restriction (Sunglass, etc). Apparently, monitoring works well. What most non-Tesla fans don't get, is that Tesla is a evolving car. What they see now is probably what they are not going to see a year from now. And this applies to all EXISTING cars, not just the new ones. My Tesla is now 2.5 years old, and I'm still excited to get new software updates that make difference to my usecases.

So when it disengages to let you change lanes, Blue Cruise lets you manouvre and then you let go... that means for a second or 2 the car has no one in control during the transition? The blue light clearly show Cruise is off for that duration AND your hands are not on the wheel.

This is just a weird take. The review makes accurate statements but the editorializing makes them seem very comparable except for the "little things." Meaning every road except highways. As to Tesla's camera-only approach (no ultrasonic), it remains to be seen whether it's a "con." Tesla owners lamented the removal of the ultrasonic sensors in newer models but Tesla believes they are superfluous. So far, Tesla is right. Where they might matter are in tight parking situations, but certainly not on the highway.

Super Cruise does indeed do lane change and has street sign recognition. The advanced cruise control performs the functions you discuss for stop and go traffic. And I suspect the safety record for FSD is bad.

Your 2024 Model 3 has HW 4 which operates only in emulation mode. Wait till the full optimized FSD reaches HW4 Tesla EVs.

Tesla FSD is in a category of its own. Regarding the next tier, I have a 2023 Subaru which has cruise control which is similar to but slightly inferior to Super Cruise because Super Cruise, where it has mapping, handles any curve but Subaru cruise control has no map at all and just fails to handle sharp turns.
So glad I watched this video. On the surface, Super Cruise looks great, but the lack of stop-and-go functionality is a dealbreaker for me. I live in Atlanta, so stop-and-go is more valuable to me than semi-autonomous driving, solely because I would use stop-and-go every day.
Supercruise does start and stop. Actually it is the adaptive cruise control.
It is called Adaptive Cruise, and it is on all GM vehicles as standard feature, and it works great. SuperCruise, if available, requires Adaptive Cruise to be active.
I use FSD pretty much daily. I do Uber and I use it with Uber lol. People are continuously impressed. But it still has some issues. I don’t like the way it merges onto the highway. Accelerates too fast after making a turn. Breaks too hard sometimes at a yellow light. Sometimes definitely gets confused as to what lane to be in. But it’s 90% good you just have to watch it.
I think most issues you mentioned here should be resolved with 12.4.2 version
I've used FSD on the hwy and it worked well. It's new to me and I struggled to trust it. Honestly, it worked great. Seemed to change lanes A LOT. Sometimes it would get in the passing lane without moving back to the right lane. Great when traffic came to a stop suddenly. Also took the exit when I would have missed it. Tesla FSD was great for me.
You can change the lane changes to minimal. Might help!
With recent 50% price cuts (April '24), Tesla FSD now cost $8,000 for outright purchase or alternatively $99/mo or $1,200 yr vs Chev Cruise $2,700. So Tesla's FSD solution is nearly 3X the price. Got it. Maybe Tesla will slash the price again as they do appear to be getting desperate lately....with all of their price slashing on cars and now FSD.
SuperCruise is not $2700, it's $2500/mo + $25/mo forever. And comparing the two when they have vastly different capabilities is crazy. Porsche's are 3x the price of Mustang GTs, but that's for a reason.
I have used SuperCruise on congested parkways and Interstates. It works fine.
One thing you should point out is Tesla has had basic autopilot since the model s in 2013. You can’t say Tesla can do this or that better without pointing out it wasn’t always as advanced as it is now. Super cruise will ad features but the main thing is it works on the interstate and that is where most people want it. Fsd you have to pay 12000 or a 200 dollars a month.
GM also charges a subscription for supercruise, which it will be increasing for more advanced features when/if it improves.

I had a Chevy Bolt EUV with Super Cruise and it does really stink when you leave a mapped area and it just shuts off. I had a couple times where there was some minor construction that altered where exactly the highway was and I was unable to use SC on those stretches for months until they updated the mapping. Then there were times where it would just stop working with no feed back on why.
Have a Tesla Model 3 now and in that regard I'm much happier.

Autosteer will take sharp curves, it will slow down the car for the sharp turns. I use it all the time, and so I am familiar with what it can or can't do
Great review. You are the first reviewer that I've found who answered the question, does Super Cruise read and adjust to speed limit signs? (It does not read signs, unfortunately). Maybe that's something that will come in future versions.
Which is weird as even my cheap Ford Focus does it which isn't even promotes its system that much, yet it basically does everything this magical super cruise does, and little bit better.

After watching this, it's amazing to see how far ahead Tesla is from the competition. I hate that USS has been removed but I'm hoping with enough practice, Tesla Vision becomes even better than USS was.
Tesla just purchases a ton of luminar lidar, so they might actually have finally realized how shitty vision only based self driving is. Luminar had 10% of it's revenue this year so far come from tesla purchases ;)

I’ve heard that a fair amount! I have only had that happen in one specific spot but it’s pretty annoying. It thinks the speed limit drops to 5 mph when it’s really a 35… not ideal 😅

I'm in Europe so I don't have FSD Beta, but we still have the vision based monitoring and the same 'Pay attention to the road' warning, but I've never once in 5 years of ownership had a forced disengagement. The car gives you endless warnings, both visual and audible, and yet somehow people complain that it only gave them all that 3 or 5 times on different days and believe they were wrongfully suspended from using the system for a while?
I have no idea what people are doing but it sounds like they're delusional.

You have to select lane change and auto lane change in the menu for super cruise. Then when you super cruise it will do what you have given it permission to do.

Super Cruise is a nice supplemental tool for commute but it’s not exactly cheap. It’s a bit better than free autopilot but a lot more limited than FSD.

No, and Yes, respectively. You can direct it on the fly from the screen; but if you try to do this while you're moving you'll probably get a "please pay attention to the road" warning. But you can also do it with a voice command. push the right scroll wheel, and say "Take me to Costco in Santee" and you'll be re-routed.

I disagree. I don't think it's a good idea to let the user turn the wheel without disengaging. It makes it less clear when the car is in control.
I also don't like that Tesla switched to camera-only. This is less safe. Drivers should always have their hands on the wheel, until it's truly robotaxi-level. Reaction-time is huge in avoiding accidents. Also, it's super easy to defeat the vision system. You can just hold your phone past the wheel and the camera can't see it...
The indicator light helps with understanding when the car is in control though

my first trip out I got my first strike and lockout. I was on the freeway and it was doing it's thing and I heard a car long honking. I looked around trying to see who he was beeping at and the car flipped out and gave me a strike and locked out the who trip from FSD. So being observant landed me a strike. Other than that time 12.3.6 has been ok driving me 52 miles to work. On my way home however the maps always wants to take me a direction that is totally wrong and causes FSD to drive around a city block on a loop... and I mean a loop, it will drive around that one city block forever. I have not figured out how to report the issue. It is no good!!! Google maps, Waze... no issue, Tesla maps thinks it can exit the city via a road that is one direction and FSD will try and take that path and get stuck driving around that single block forever. I wanna sit at the restaurant at that block and film how many Tesla's get stuck in the loop. LOL

Have you tried to get that A pillar led area to sit flush with the door led it seems to be 1/4 inch off on the driver side.

Yeah comparing a auto pilot cruise control vs Tesla's auto drive are 2 different things and not comparable at all, but you do a ok job comparing apples to oranges. It's a super cruise for when you would normally use your cruise control that's all.
All you need to do with Tesla vs GM is signal to change lanes, signal back over with just basic autopilot. Easier and better than guessing is GM driving or us looking at a color lol. Apples to oranges comparison here Tesla autopilot already way better than GM, FSD next level

Autopilot comes free but only works correctly on highways whereas fsd or supervised mean its full self driving and you just have to punch in the address and tesla will do the driving. Apparently this dude only had the basic autopilot thats why it struggles at making sharp turns. Fsd is 8000 dollars
Autopilot combines adaptive cruise control and auto steer and is included (no extra charge) when you buy the car. It has improved with time and frankly is all most people will need. At one time another for pay option was Enhanced Autopilot that added lane changes, stop lights and stops signs, highway departure, but this option has now been dropped. If you subscribe to FSD $100/month the enhanced features can be used without going to full FSD, or you can opt to use FSD. The subscription model is far superior to shelling out $8000 for FSD since the purchase is linked to the car and not the driver. Buy a new car and you lose your $8000 FSD. A subscription can be cancelled at any time.
What no one is mentioning is that FSD recognizes and obey traffic lights and traffic signs. It stops for red lights, drives when it turn green, stops for stop signs appropriately, performs right, left, and protected left turns. You basically put in and address and it goes there. I don't believe it parks the car nor takes it out of the parking spot yet.
Autopilot won’t make that sharp of a turn no matter what. I have all available driving systems, obviously as I was using FSD. Even when enhanced autopilot was a thing (which it no longer is)… it didn’t change how tight of a turn you could take it just added navigate on autopilot and would do auto lane changes.
Autopilot will give you a combo of Adaptive cruise and lane keeping/auto steering. Basically will keep you away from the cars in front of you and keep you in your lane on highways or city streets. As mentioned by others it’s all that most people need. Comes free and standard with all teslas.
FSD will take you point A to point B. You put in an address and it just goes. Will do all the driving for you with just occasional nags(for now)
I suggest to many people to travel in an EV with Self Driving for summer holidays rather than fly. (Local airline is on strike today) As long as you are not going over water, and driving let's you experience the journey not the destination.
The Model Y struggles in traffic; it is not smooth and does not maintain a close distance from the vehicles ahead of it.
My model 3 is great in traffic, but it does stay pretty far back. Some people view that as the safe way, not my preference so I just give the accelerator a little tap to move up a bit
Well, isn't it essential to be able to use it anywhere? Thus the "super cruise" fail in principle?? Its only an assistent, not a driver. The "attention" required by FSD is legislated and required by the authorities and not a system issue, right? If not "forced" to engage then surely FSD should be able to not "bug" the driver all the time, or not?
Actually, FSD v12.4, which is rolling out now, *doesn't* bug the driver all the time, or ever; as long as you have the internal camera and it can see your eyes.

Well I waited for the GM Equinox EV to come out, but got tired of waiting. So I own the Tesla Model Y LR and enjoy all the features - and has some features that the Equinox does not provide.
I did try the FREE 30 day trial of FSD version12.3..6 and was interesting, got me to my destinations, but did do a few things I did not like. FSD accelerates too quickly from intersections to get to speed limits which I didn't care for. Also the FSD would do allot of hesitations with shadows which was unnecessary. I decided not to purchase FSD at 99 dollars a month at this time because of just the short local trips I do. I feel I do not need this premium feature. Auto Pilot or Cruise control are adequate for me and they are both FREE with the vehicle and I hardly need or use these.
Still with all that said above about FSD, it is still amazing what the feature can drive on any road or highway, in any town or city. Just select the destination, enable FSD, and it will take me directly to that destination.
Of the two vehicles, I will still take my Tesla Model Y over the Equinox. I like the simpler interior design. So you don't have all the knobs and buttons, I do not miss them at all. If I don't remember where something is on the Display, I just use Voice Control and does the function I request.

I have thousands of miles of experience with SuperCruise on my Bolt EUV and it is fantastic. Unlike Tesla, it doesn’t promise something it can’t consistently deliver. I rented a Model S on Turo and found Autopilot a far inferior system. The Tesla was also prone to false collision warnings. SuperCruise works well in the dark and rain since it uses radar and camera rather than just camera. I don’t trust Tesla, they are using customers as beta testers for all these systems with often tragic results. Be safe out there

Many people disagree with you. Autopilot works so well that people forget that it is not Fully Self-Driving. Official testing by various agencies has proven Tesla to be safer than anything else out there.

I've used both extensively. I prefer supercruise because I don't like fsd on city streets and supercruise is smoother on highways plus you don't have to touch the wheel at all. SC is limited but on roads it's not supported in, I'd rather be in control anyways. Supercruise is better than fsd for medium and longer trips in my opinion. Your mileage may vary depending on whether you frequently drive on SC mapped roads or not.
Supercruise supports 750,000 miles of roads in America. Very generous.

Compared to FSD which works on all 5 million miles of highway, PLUS all surface streets, back alleyways, dirt roads, etc.

Watch some FSD v12 reviews on RUclips. On any challenging drive, FSD needs help. It cannot get the job done *alone* .
@@DerekDavis213 I don't need to watch reviews, I own a 2024 Model 3 and drive with FSD daily for ~3+ hours a day.
Is FSD perfect? Absolutely not, but using it alongside my normal drive makes driving infinitely more enjoyable and relaxing. The car does 95% of the driving and for those times that something comes up that it cannot handle I am there to takeover and continue on without any issue.
FSD isn't throwing people off cliffs, the mistakes it makes are mild - it's overly cautious at times so you'll more than likely disengage if you're trying to get around an area quickly.
And to be crystal clear, I am certain that FSD is a better driver than the majority of people on the road. People are absolutely awful at driving, over a million people die every year in auto accidents. How can you even begin to defend human drivers? Self driving is the future, and Tesla is the only company anywhere close to making that happen.

GM has always made a good EV. Ev1 was great in its day, Chevy Volt was awesome, Bolt is a good driver too. Smooth, quiet, excellent ride . I hope they have success.
Bolt is horrendous. But not because of the hardware, the software is a nightmare. The car is actually mostly made by LG. But GM neutered charging (in a software "update")and that damn car clogs up every quick charger I ever want to use. Had to switch to a Tesla to avoid those stupid things pissing me off to no end.
GM had to replace all the batteries in all of the Bolts sold. They to recall and put a stop sale order on the Blazer right after release. So other than that, GM makes good EVs, sure!

I was saying super cruise is $25/month after the first few years. So paying an additional $75 a month to get to the cost of FSD is worth it for the additional functionality

Let me say that *I've* gotten an FSD "inattention strike" _while I was fixedly staring out at the road._ The camera-based attentiveness detector works about as well as the automatic windshield wiper controls.
