Redskins fan here, and the blame goes to Snyder and Bruce Allen - Snyder's constant interference and Bruce Allen's enabling Snyder destroyed RG3's career. Love your channel!
Thanks for taking the time to watch John!! Yeah it's always bad news when an owner is interfering with what should be a coaches decision!
@SheGotSports words can't express how much I love your channel. Fact based, no drama and screaming. If more sports news outlets had you as an analyst, less sports outlets would be in trouble.
Mike Shanahan is guilty of child abuse letting Robert Griffin play just like Kyle Shanahan is grinding Christian McCaffrey
@@johnmassoud930 Wow! Thanks so much for those kind words!! It truly means a lot!!!
RG3 has some blame in it too. He was immature and blamed others for his mistakes. I wanted him to be the guy but he couldn’t get out of his own way
RG3 throws one of the prettiest balls you’ll ever see
Agree. He could spin it. He just got caught up in things like conflict with the Shanahans who really did have his best interests in mind balanced with the team & at the same time it’s like he lost his edge to keep getting better. He thought he had arrived. But in the NFL teams adjust better. Mahomes is a great example of a QB who does whatever it takes to win. Hurts is another QB who grinds & works to be able to do whatever it takes.
😂 into the dirt
I’m still a fan of RGIII. His immaturity at times was detrimental to him, plus having Washington drafting Cousins as well was something he was worried about. He saw cousins everyday in practice, knew he could play well, and saw him win games when Robert was out.
I think that def played a factor in him not wanting to miss games too
Craziest thing to me is that he ended up being in the NFL longer than Luck.
That is so crazy!!! Those 2 were always told they would be connected and compared forever heading into that 2012 draft. But unfortnely it didn't work out well for either of them
@@SheGotSports Dumbazz Colts fans booing him honestly broke my heart. Dude peed blood for them (former boxer and it's SCARY AF the first time), yet they booed him. He deserved better.
Never realized this. Thats nutssss
RG3 only played at a high level for 1 year though. Andrew Luck played at a high level for 4 or so years.
@@michael7054 which I think makes this even crazier lol
How NOT to develop a franchise quarterback.
So tough considering he had so much potential
2012 RG3 was an absolute beast! As for his downfall, I’d agree. It’s certainly his fault he didn’t rest up after his injury. Great vid. Easily one of your best.
A player should never be allowed to dictate when he's ready to go. Of course a driven guy never wants to sit. That's where doctors, coaches and the whole management team comes in. It was their failure, and theirs alone, that destroyed RGIII's career.
That Thanksgiving game against Dallas is up there with Randy Moss' game in 1998 for the greatest games by a rookie on Thanksgiving in NFL history. I was in awe watching him play that day
I wish I watched. I only watched Giants games until I was like 13/14
@@SheGotSports Best Thanksgiving ever. Texans/Lions OT thriller, RG3 goes off, and then... the Butt Fumble. What a day 10/10 would relive again
Not a wsh Redskins fan, but every time I think of RG3 I think of week 1 against the saints and that Thanksgiving game against the cowboys.
@@SheGotSports nothing wrong with that! BIG BLUE fan?!

I was at that playoff game for my first live game (Seahawks fan). When that injury happened you could hear a pin drop by how silent that stadium was. The fan base was stunned and I felt bad for them too. He was killin Seattle in the first half prior to the injury.
@@thawkereynoldsyou got cooked by him admit it 😂
Browns for life but loved this guy. My poor son was literally screaming at Shanahan to take him out.
I was such a huge RG3 stan his first season. I'm excited for this video
Thanks Torri!!!

Congratulations Lauren on the 100 K much love to you.
Thank you so much!!
Life-long Washington fan here & this is the best video I've ever seen on RG3. I'm not going to lie, I was extremely skeptical before clicking play, but you really did your research. I felt like I was listening to one of our local Sports Reporters who had ears on the ground while this stuff was happening. I'm happy RG3 has found a second career as a Football analyst and Color commentator but as a player, he limited his potential by rushing back from injury and wanting to be "Aaron Rogers" when that's not his skill set. A former teammate of RG3 once said on-air that Teams could take away half the field from RG3 due to his lack of progression skills, this limitation is completely unacceptable at the NFL Level.
Can't believe some 4th rounder in that 2012 draft name Kirk Cousin ended up having a longer and more successful career than the two QBs taken with the first two picks
RG3 got tha "Big Head" and nobody could tell him noth'n, He knew it all and now you see the results !
He thought the NFL was ‘easy’!
@@DeeNice681 How'd that work out for him ? 😝

"There was no way i was coming out of that game."
- I like him even more now. GREAT video, Lauren!!
It's great to be "tough" and play through pain but it's just being selfish and stupid to play and put your team at a disadvantage! That low snap fumble play he abandoned the ball and it was a crucial turnover!
An rg3 and Kirk podcast would be awesome
would listen
Didn’t realize his completion % was so high! He was pretty good
2012 was supposed to be the start of this franchise to turn around. We had a great coaching staff. Mike was gonna retire and Kyle was supposed to take over as head coach. We still had Sean McVay who i think woulda ended up being the offensive coordinator. We still had Matt Lafluer. I blame mostly Snyder. 70% Dan, 30% Robert.
I already know what happened. RG complained about the playbook. They gave him a pocket passer playbook and he struggled in the NFL. It wasn’t just the injury.
Say you're a know it all without saying you're a know it all. 😂 Just messing with ya.
@1VetsVision nope just a dumb cowboys fan 😅
FACTS
Wow I never knew he tore his ACL in his sophomore college season .. it adds so much to his nfl story ending
Dude was a straight up athlete. As a lifelong reddkins fan I wish things worked out for the bettrr. Losing to Seattle in the playoffs was heartbreaking
I remember watching that play-off game against the Seahawks and thinking "Why is RGIII still out there!? They are up by 2 scores late in the 3rd quarter. He can barely walk! Pull him from the game!"
That read option was deadly
RG III was amazing when not hurt. I’m a saints fan and we were stunned in the come in that first week. I remember being severely pissed off
I remember his first game against the saints. RG3 was unreal
As an RG3 fan I think there is one pretty important detail left out. While I agree, and even RG3 would agree, he should have rested until he was 100% after that first injury. He is at some fault for the later injuries that occurred for sure. I also blame the Skins coaching staff from not saving RG3 from himself.
That said, RG3 was doomed after that first season to fail weather he got hurt or not. The thing that made Shanahan a great coach was his ability to understand and capitalize on his teams strengths. He took over the Skins who were not a great team at the time and redefined the game plan focusing on not what was NFL protocol, but what his team could do best no matter how un-NFL like it was. With RG3's speed the read option which at the time was only seen in high school and college made perfect sense. RG3 had 1 weakness in his game, he was terrible at recognizing defenses, but had the talent and speed to mostly overcome that weakness his first season while teams struggled to figure out how to stop the read option.
If RG3 stayed healthy, by year 2 defenses had the read option figured out. You can watch film of year 2 vs year 1 and see the adjustments defenses made to defend the read option essentially shutting RG3 down due to his lack of being able to read a defense. So my "what if" scenario if RG3 had not gotten hurt is by year 2 he would either need to learn to read defenses to play a more conventional style of QB which would have kept the read option still viable or, be a career backup. That is what separates RG3 from LJ8. LJ8 is pretty good at reading defenses and the read option is still a very lucrative part of his game.
I don't know how much truth there is to it, but the word I always heard was that the coaches were over ruled by ownership. Coaches wanted Cousins to be on the field.
Lj8 throwing in triple coverage and a goal line pick six is reading a defense to u?
@@leonknight558 Name a QB who hasn't made an occasional misread or mistake.
Baltimore is just a better organization and team. They were great before Lamar got there.
Good video. The only thing missing is the fact that RGIII saw that Cousins was running a completely different offense. I'm sure Snyder exacerbated the issue, but I remember it was clear Robert was upset that Kirk ran a different offense.
Because Kirk could run Shanahan's offense. That's why Mike drafted him. They had to put plays from Baylor into the offense for RG3. He couldn't run the regular offense.
Robert Griffin III was a amazing player to see on television after he'd won the Heisman back in 2011 at University of Baylor becoming the 1st QB in school history to win it a 1st Round 2nd overall pick in 2012 NFL Draft by the Redskins then now Commanders but if he didn't get hut against the Ravens who knows what his career would be? He should be Super Bowl Contenders back then but that was not the case here RG3 was great don't get me wrong 8:08
Thanks for watching Ryan!
Well done! That’s my team and I remember this well. I’d say RGIII with his stubbornness and Dan Snyder with his meddling are to blame, more so than the coaches.
Sure hoping Jaden Daniels knows how to slide!
Yeah the whole Snyder part is crazy. Never knew about it till making this video
@@SheGotSports oh my goodness it’s so nice to have a legit NFL owner again.
Fellow Commanders fan! I still remember the nervous feeling whenever RGIII wouldn’t just slide. Getting his lights knocked out by a top NT is the painful setback he needed. Snyder’s error was not making him recover and putting the whole team second. In fact, his college injury made drafting 2 capable QBs seem like a good idea.
@@ironrevenger9386 totally! Such an awful owner. I do think he wanted to win and would spend money - not wisely- but he did everything else wrong and was a slimeball.
I’m pretty sure that Harris will never be like that - I can hope he’s as good as Cooke but that isnt likely but from an ethics standpoint it’s the opposite of Snyder. He won’t give that king treatment to Jayden - who from what I see does not have the same personality as RGIIi (bright but egotistical as all getup) or Haskins (RIP but did not understand the work that needed to be done to succeed). Real football people running the show now.
And we can thank Lauren again for a great video - she’s passionate and knows her stuff!
@@davidfiddleman2312 Even Kirk wasn’t done right, but thankfully everything worked out for him post DC
We’ll know more about Harris in a few years when the team and culture are fully rebuilt. Jayden Daniels should d told he’s only earned the starting job (after preseason). Both sides of the ball are an issue, but offense is halfway solved with a rookie QB everyone believes in. May the playbook and higher ups know what they’re doing 🙏
Oh yes indeed a big thanks to Lauren. I’ve enjoyed so many of these stories including Blake Bortles’ interesting and forgotten playoff run
Congratulations!!🥳🎊🎉100k well deserved 👏
this one is really good, i still remember rg3 torching the ravens so many years back smh. so bascially his knee injury kinda sent a snowball effect in way? good video!

You're absolutely WRONG about the Browns. Having suffered through decades of pain, I can confidently say the FO would have taken a punter and high-fived afterwards. 😢

Wow as a redskin fan I never heard the story about RG3 on calling that meeting with coaches
I'm a Giants fan and before I started researching for this video I never knew that happened either!
He didn't get hurt on a design run, no he got hurt scrambling because he didn't know how to slide. That offense made him great. He was so blessed in hindsight to have an amazing group of offensive coaches

Lol I've just been watching off camera. It's been so stressful lol!!!
Great job, excellent analysis and presentation!!
RG3 is making money as a football analyst...
First off, I really appreciate your deep dive into the subject :) Imo, I feel he didn't get resigned for the same reason Jackson didn't get swooped up by other teams.... His play style is/ was too niche. Like said, he was, in the beginning, a RPO QB but was suddenly rushed into a pocket passer when he should have been a hybrid. At this point in the nfl, and still today, a lot of teams aren't willing to take the risk.
Thanks so much for watching Austyn!
Congratulations on 100,000 subs btw

As a redskins fan. RG3 rookie season was the most exciting season I’ve ever experienced. Can’t wait to see how Jayden Daniel’s plays
New sub! Thanks for your content boss lady 💯🙌🏾💜
One of the biggest what ifs for the giants is David Wilson. I'm so mad his neck injury cut his career short
Gotta be honest, I was skeptical to check your video out (cause of you being a broad and all lol) but I'm impressed. This is well done young lady. Nice research, script and editing. Good narration too. I'll be watching all your stuff from now on for sure.
2:16 that dap was so hard
Lol yeah it was
Griffin should’ve waited until his knee was 100%. He had a capable backup in Cousins, and in 2013 he looked NOTHING like he did in 2012.
Great video RG3 was very talented it's a shame he would of had a great career alot of heart however unwise should of sat out and fully healed when millions are at stake the pressure must be immense
It is weird no one would want him at least for second or third string he does have a lot of natural ability
Yeah I was surprised no one wanted to sign him after the year with the Browns. Like even as a backup
Happy Memorial Day Lauren❤
The dumbest part of Robert's thinking is that the called QB runs were the plays that made the whole offense work. The option threat specifically froze opposing DE's which mattered because they couldn't block those guys in a normal drop back situation. Second, Robert NEVER took a bad hit on a called run, every bad hit he took was him extending pocket plays and being unable to slide. Robert sabotaged his own career.
First vid of yours I watched great editing and narration ❤I subbed in girl amazing content ❤
what kind of video editing software do you use???
Great video!
You've gained another sub from me, love your content, keep it coming✌️💯
That rookie season was the absolute best example of RG3's elite skills. But that's why coaches get paid millions of dollars too because they figured out the read option offense with a whole year of tape
BINGO!!!
He should've NEVER been on the field against Seattle.
Crazy…
I've done that, tried to keep exercising and working out through and injury and it's not a good idea.....but I get it, your mind says you can do it...but your body not so much. Now in my mid/late 40s I know better than to try to come back early after being injured (even slightly). It's hard when you're used to pushing yourself and just taking a seat goes against every fiber in your being.
Great video per usual! RG3 could've been tremendous under different circumstances.
Thanks for taking the time to watch!!
For one thing, RGIII didn't learn how to slide until he went to the Browns, YEARS after taking multiple injuries. Given even just that one fact (among others) - he was never going to have a long career in the NFL.
I'm so glad someone is finally talking about the fact that RG3 was a head case as an NFL QB. Of course I don't entirely blame Robert Dan was definitely manipulated him into thinking he was a different player than he really was.
Great video I rather enjoyed it and a lot of insight
They really should've shut him down and told him ABSOLUTELY NO after he just BLEW OUT his knee in the Baltimore game.
It's a travesty how DC handled his injury. RG3 definitely wanted to NOT run all those QB draws, but clearly, he's not Aaron Rodgers.
Same for my Browns with Baker. They 100% KNEW he couldn't throw, but let him play. Now Tampa has a good QB locked up, and we've got a quarter billion weirdo that forgot how to throw.
@@clevelandcbiTB has a good qb locked up, and the browns’ quarterback deserves to be locked up
His refusal to slide during the play was bad enough, but then letting him go back in didn’t make sense. I can see why the Commanders medical staff and management are criticized so badly
Good video Lauren thank you
Thanks for watching!

Really good video! She did a great job.
I think the biggest butterfly effect in football history is Nick Saban passing on Drew Brees in Miami.
Huge Saints fan my whole life, RG3 redskins Jersey is the only other team jersey I ever had💯
🔥🔥
Giants fan here. We miss Snyder.
Thank you for saying that! 18:03. I truly have always believe that Lamar Jackson is RG3 without the injuries.
Lamar is more multi talented and not as stubborn and arrogant
Rg III had two much pride
Often wondered if the drafting of Cousins that same draft didn't put more pressure RG3 to come back sooner. Also, gotta learn how to slide. That's largely the difference between him and Russ. Wentz hada problem with staying upright and I said he'd go down too and he eventually did.
Exactly. He admitted in an interview that he was nervous about Cousins
Great analysis, particularly the comparison with Lamar Jackson. I suspect that Dan Snyder was involved in RGIII's ultimatum to the coaching staff.
It absolutely was RGIII's fault. If he gave Lamar good advice, then that's good on him. Don't play injured. It's not "gutsy" - it's arrogant. Particularly when you think you can play better than the guy behind you who's 100% when you're at 50%. Sure, you may lose your position, but you also risk...losing your career b/c you get hurt even worse.
Great video! I think Washington lucked out when they drafted Kirk Cousins to back him up.
Please as a Washington fan, don’t bring up repressed memories. I told my therapist I’m better now
Just regurgitating stats. Griffin can’t carry the team, he needs help ❤
@@jussyi1188 the front office and coaching were horrible and I agree with you
The Minute they took Kirk Cousins in the 4th round instead of bringing in a veteran QB from free agency tht year really striked me at tht time because why would I want to rookies running my squad when the typical is a rookie in a vet and they battle it out bt ig they knew RG3 was the starter without a doubt and if things go wrong, then we have a pretty experience quarterback as well with a lot of college ball experience in Kirk cousins either way, approve to be a pretty decent move back then, but it still shocked me
Before the 2012 draft, I was hoping Seattle could perhaps figure out a way to get Griffin. But then they signed hot shot free agent Matt Flynn and that seemed like a solid plan at QB.
Obviously Russell Wilson made me forget all that. But I also think Griffin, Wilson and Luck ruined things for rookie QBs for years to come with their immediate success.
People making excuses for RG three clearly don’t see how fortunate this dude was. He played under two of the greatest offensive coordinators in the history of the NFL and because he was a Primadonna it never worked out. Somebody like Kirk cousins who doesn’t have one/100th of his talentwas successful. The Shanahan’s, with Matt Lafleur, and then you get Sean McVay, and you can’t make that work???
Or in some alternate reality the NFL caught up to that wild cat gimmick so when rg3 entered the nfl he thought the read option would catch these grown men by surprise
Presently, Washington has drafted another top quarterback, and a Heisman winner in Jaylen Daniels. Washington cannot make the same mistake. They did with RG3 with JD5.
I respectfully disagree with your assessment. Did the Shanahans build an offense that made RG3 successful in his rookie season? Yes, but that wasn't the offense that was best suited for his talent. He had just won the Heisman running a spread, uptempo offense in college, not a zone read. I've always wondered why a team would give up so much draft capital to draft a player so high, and then abandon the thing that made him worthy of the pick. They pigeonholed him because he was fast. Good coaches coach to their players talent, mediocre ones want the player to adjust to their system. The Shannys have a system that had success, so they wanted RG3 to adjust to their system, and because of their previous success, they had the cache to make RG3 look like the fool for not totally embracing what they were selling. I watched John Harbaugh totally revamp his offense from Joe Flacco to suit Lamar Jackson's talent in a season. He implemented a lot of what Lamar did at Louisville that made Lamar successful. The Shannys didn't do that with RG3 and that POS Jay Gruden didn't even think about attempting to do it. You also glossed over the fact that Mike didn't want RG3, he wanted Peyton Manning. Coaching and jealousy from RG3's teammates played just as big if not a bigger part of his downfall as his passion for wanting to be on the field.
Ayyye Copperas Cove stand up
I remember his legs used to be in some strange angles, his legs were almost too loose idk
Ecclesiastes 9:18
Wisdom is better than weapons of war: but one sinner destroyeth much good.
In regard to RG-3's knee injury against the Baltimore Ravens in 2012 and subsequent knee injury in the playoff game against Seattle; ITS NOT WHETHER YOU WIN OR LOSE.....BUT WHO GETS THE BLAME. RG-3 seems to have been his own worst enemy.
Shannon should have not let him rush back, Dr. Andrew’s should have stood up. But they are all paid by Snyder and once RG3 became his number one friend, it ruined him. Inflated his ego, and his dad’s ego for that matter, gave him the confidence to dictate the playbook to his head coach and two future head coaches. Man Snyder ruined him is the summary, fish rots from the owners head on down
rg3 was so special his rookie season
Peyton Manning was never going to sign with the Redskins. It wasn’t just discovered that him and Eli would be in the same division fighting for the same championship. They use Washington to get more money and for Peyton Manning to talk with Shanahan.
It doesn't say enough about RG3 it says a lot about the NFL and how messed up the NFL is in developing players
There's no way I would have did a Heisman trophy quarterback like that coming out of college
I would have made sure he would have transitioned to the pros and had a successful career like he did in college
Another story of wasted talent the NFL is full of stories of that a lot of players we don't and will never hear about
I'd of sat him after that first injury. I'll take the heat for it. That's what a coach should do. Phazing out the read opt should have been done so he transitions to pocket play at his progression and not forced.
