Happy Birthday Bruce Hornsby born on November 23, 1954. He is an American singer-songwriter and pianist. His music draws from folk rock, jazz, bluegrass, folk, Southern rock, country rock, jam band, rock, heartland rock, and blues rock musical traditions. - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruce_Hornsby
Bruce Hornsby and the Range was a product of its time: the 80s and early 90s. It doesn’t take a genius to understand what cultural and political movements formed that society that they sang about. After last week, It’s safe to say that we now have a much better path to being that America once again.
Ryan Verdekal He plays with such joy, it just shines through. I can imagine alot of classical pianists cringing at his unique playing style. I should know - I'm learning classical piano now!!! He's awesome.
This song's theme has far greater relevance these days in 2022 than it did 34 years ago upon its release! A beautifully sung & performed gem from the 80s. Bruce Hornsby was a true prophet, as he had his hand on the pulse, this general pulse that he converted & channeled into some amazing, timeless & transcendent music. This song along with its powerful theme (corporate greed/environmental degradation) will live on forever. A masterpiece for the ages!
Bruce never preached in his songs...just painted the picture. He never insulted his audience, just believed they could be trusted with what he was sharing.
It's July 2023, I'm 74 and rediscovering Bruce Hornsby. Magnificent piano player with a remarkable band. His music & messages is needed today. People today are drowning in their social crap and forgot how listen. Spread the word music from the 60's, 70's & 80's are the greatest.
This is why music in the 80's was the best! It was just a more simpler time. No cell phones, no reality television, no Spotify, no Tik Tok and No Covid. People actually talked to each other. Kim B I agree. I'm 65 and this was one of the last artists/groups I followed. There has always been something great about the original members - the that started it all - in a studio - and made great music. Yes, I remember Elvis, Little Richard, The Righteous Brothers, Glen Campbell, The Temptations, Marvin Gaye, - and the list goes on. Good music still holds up - the test of time. I read the comments of fans much younger than myself, and I hear the same thing - they love the real musicians. I was having a very bad year in ‘18. Divorce, moving to another state, health issues. This song evokes one of my best memories of my life. I remember it was at the end of a long half country drive from Texas to Virginia. I was a newly minted Naval Aviator and was coming to my new duty station, NAS Norfolk. This song had been all over the radio and I was fond of BH since his first hit 2 years earlier in 1986 when he came on the scene. At that time I was a recent college grad and was headed back into the Navy to start my trek towards an Officers commission and then hopefully a pair of Navy pilot Wings. Flash forward to August 1988 and I'm popping out of the Hampton Roads Bridge tunnel's South Island in my "Ensign "mobile and am greeted to an awesome sight. Across the bay at Naval Station Norfolk sitting at piers 11,12 and 14 are about half a million tons of aircraft carriers which had been previously and will be in the future my home. It was such an awe-inspiring sight that filled me with a pride that I had never felt this strongly before. I had been part of this team before but on the west coast. Now I was back this time with a new job! Flying off these monsters where before I was deck bound as a jet mechanic. Flying overhead in front of me as I drove near NAS Norfolk were Navy planes "in the break" roaring overhead. The excitement of being 25 years old, a part of thi team with a new career and friends in a new part of this country that I had never been before was incredible. Hampton Roads and the Tidewater of Virginia would be my new home for my time in the fleet with Northern Va becoming my permanent home after my time in the Navy. Thank u Bruce H for the song that is the background for this very special memory.

Enduring Favorite BH Song. imo - best environmental song ever written.
Love the opening of this song. Bruce scoops you up and takes you on jammin journey to an aspect of America. Pure genius. Somebody call Billy Joel and tell him the piano man is in the building.
Bruce makes Billy look like a student.
"Look Out Any Window" How great is this song!?!!!
