      The coaching staff “lost the room”…this is the NHL & more specifically, the Oilers! Many insiders picked them to win the Cup before the season. Holland has a small window of opportunity to win a Cup within the next couple of years before Leon, then Connor’s contracts are up.

    • @TheSettlingTheWestShow
      @TheSettlingTheWestShow 2 месяца назад

      @@loilt5091 No, Woody didn't lose the room. I went more into detail on my channel but I'll sum it up here: the Oilers loved Woodcroft and Manson, but Woody and Manson couldn't give this team a wake-up call, so Holland did. I could all be wrong because I'm not in the locker room but I watch as much as I can and read as much as I can (both McDavid and Drai seemed quite shocked by the firing). So the players felt bad about getting the coach fired, and they didn't want to do it to Knobber and Coffey too. I will say Dave Manson and Woody don't get enough credit for how much they helped our defense even this year, and I think we would have recovered to be a wild card team under them; but I won't even try to suggest we would have had a 17 game win streak under them.

    We are absolutely underrated. And this is why, I've been watching every non-preseason game for the last two and half seasons and it blows mind how little credit we get, (though I understand it to a degree, a Canadian team hasn't won since '93). This was one of the most exciting games I've watched (I had to do a whole rant video), particularly as a goalie myself and watching Skinner make three gorgeous saves on Ovi. I will say, there absolutely some of us who do overrate us, but it feels like we're the worst team in teh league when we lose sometimes, unless Toronto loses too, and if we win it was because the other team was an AHL team.

    @EckHockey do you take any solace in the fact that Kris Knoblauch was with the Hartford Wolf Pack (your New York Rangers AHL affiliate) before the oilers got their hands on him? He definitely did a great job coaching up the young Rangers players like Matt Rempe and Zac Jones, and it's extremely hard to argue with the success he's had up in the big league as well. Like it obviously sucks that he's not with the franchise anymore, but does it stir hope that the Rangers have this many successes coming out of Hartford lately?

    My one concern with the oilers this year is who they are beating. When they play the top echelon teams like Dallas, winnipeg, Vancouver, Boston, Florida they haven't done well. And the wins they do have are mostly ot, where they can't have mcdavid slaughter you in 3 on 3 in the playoffs. They have 3 with Colorado, a few with Vancouver, one with toronto/dallas/winnipeg/Vegas down the stretch. I think those games will show what they can do before the playoffs more then the other ones

    I think because McDavid and Draisaitl are so good, but haven't got a cup yet, the rest of the team gets more negative attention than they often deserve. I still sometimes see people mentioning Nurse's contract as the worst in the NHL even with Jack Campbell right there. Skinner has a ton of doubters even though his career to this point compares favorably to Bobrovsky's. So on and so forth. I'm not saying they don't have their flaws, but the way some people talk, you'd think half the team was actively plotting to sabotage the playoff run.

And well, he knows a thing or two on how to play defense, as he's won 4 Cups (3 with Edmonton and one with Pittsburgh) and won the James Norris Memorial Trophy 3 times for NHL's top defense man. So as much as I give Knoblauch credit, I also give Coffey a lot of credit too. And the team has bought into all of it. Also, can we get a MASSIVE shout out to Connor Brown for FINALLY breaking that freaking monkey off his back and getting his first goal. Kudos to the guy, he's MORE than earned it.

    Honestly think that the oilers are getting to much recognition for their recent stretch. Since the start of the new year they've played at most 10 games against teams actually in a playoff spot and even their wins against Dallas and Boston were in OT. They are a great team and made a big turn around but the numbers lie and I would be worried if anyone thinks the oilers are Canada's best bet at a cup this year. I mean we all know only having Skinner in net isn't going to bode well for them come the playoffs and I don't think that they're going to be able to anything against a team like Vancouver or a health Vegas lineup, or even Winnipeg in a 7 game series. I think its going to be the same story as it is every year with the oilers winning against teams that aren't really contenders until they come up against an actual cup contending team and it's going to be the end of their playoff run. I really want to see a Canadian team lifting the cup but I don't think Edmonton will be the one to do it.

      In America (and in Canada as well, as its basically a 51st state) the national anthem is played at any opportunity due to the severe levels of blind nationalism and patriotism. The national anthem is played at the start of every school day and every sporting event, and if you have the audacity to exercise your freedom and liberty to choose to not stand, or to be on your phone as this guy was, you can be damn sure people will be frothing at the mouth demanding you show your reverence for the state by standing for the special freedom song and saluting the special freedom cloth. I know it may seem strange, but being forced to do things against your will is just the price of freedom.

      @@emmapaget6427I don't think being respectful during an anthem is a terrible thing. After all the freedom and liberty your rambling about is only possible because of the country that fought for it. Its literally what the anthems are about.

      If you compare their blueline to the rest of the west, they’re not really even close to being up there. There are like 2-3 teams I’m more worried about than them as an Avs fan- none of them being Vancouver because they have no postseason experience

      @@Nathanielhiggerson66I agree with most of everything you said except the Vancouver no playoff experience part. Core players lost in the semi-finals and they also brought in some playoff experienced players too. Canucks are a dark horse of the west imo.
