In the first round of the PWHL playoffs we saw one reverse sweep while the other series had every game go to overtime! That and more in today's PWHL hockey video!

I have been really enjoying the PWHL, it has been great and entertaining hockey. glad it is getting attention while contending with the NHL playoffs and world championships
The Boston sweep was the much better series. Boston's goalie stood on her head completely shutting down Montreal's offense and setting the PWHL's record for most saves in a game twice in the series. Boston's hitting and conditioning just ground down and exhausted Montreal literally breaking them in overtime. The Toronto and Minnesota series was over the moment Toronto's Spooner got injured. The team was very one dimensional and 90% of Toronto's offense was funneled through her so once she was gone they had no idea how to put the puck in the net. Minnesota was no slouch either. They dominated the league in the first half then made a couple bad trades killing their momentum and went on a bit of a losing streak to end the season after the IIHF world championship hiatus.
it also didn’t help Minnesota that Heise got injured and clearly came back before she was 100%, she definitely wasn’t having the same offensive impact as she was prior to her injury. glad she’s been able to get her groove back
Love seeing you cover this league its gonna be really fun seeing how they develop expand abd strategize and contribute to the evolution of the sport overall.
These playoffs have been AWESOME! We were at Toronto vs. Boston and then Montreal vs. Boston, two games Boston HAD to win just to qualify for the playoffs. This team is unbelievably clutch, especially Susanna Tapani, whom we call "Suski Clutch", and what can you say about Frankel--she's unreal. We'll be at tomorrow's game!
As a Canes & Minnesota fan, having both of my teams need a reverse sweep to stay alive was...less than ideal. I'm happy at least Minnesota pulled it off.
Hey Eck. Maybe you hadn't heard, but THE STARS ARE HEADED TO THE WCF. The game just happened to feature another instance of the refs nearly deciding the game's outcome by calling goalie interference without actually knowing what that term means- nothing your audience woud be interested in. Don't worry about it, it's only something a hockey content creator would know about.
I can't wait for them to get their team identities and some real branding going on. I've enjoyed watching these games so much as I have always enjoyed watching the International Womens Hockey. It's an entirely different style of play from mens hockey and unlike most women's sports, it's actually exciting and competitive to watch. These women battle and it's awesome to see them compete.
Losing Spooner absolutely took the wind out of Toronto's sails. The first game without her their offense just evaporated, and I thought their defense was honestly just as good. Shows how dependent they were on her to generate offense, not just scoring but also opening opportunities for other forwards who maybe have less ability to just sink it alone. Definitely can't let Toronto off the hook for this though. Just like the OG NHL, with only 6 teams the league is absolutely stacked with talent. Every team should be able to score without their best player.
Toronto is kinda cursed Leafs: 58 year curse Raps: rebuilding after winning in ‘19 Jays: 31 year curse Argos: collapsed after going 16-2 in ‘23 after winning the Grey Cup In ‘22 now lost their MOP PWHL TOR (TORCH) formerly the Six: lost in 5

Minnesota hockey alone(not including PWHL/PHL) hasn’t won a cup with any team since there had been teams(1967 so same as Toronto) have lost 2 cup finals, lost their team, got their team back, made it to the conference finals once and have made the playoffs 8 of the last ten years and only made it past the first round twice. Now that’s only NHL
Expand the league with 2 extra teams (Detroit/Michigan-based, Wisconsin, B.C and/or Alberta) and make the finals best of 7. PWHL has something going them here 👍🏾
They played exhibition games in Detroit and Pittsburgh, so I think that's where they are likely expanding to next. Probably won't see any Alberta or BC teams for a while on the basis of travel alone.
You know what's great about a women's hockey league? It's still hockey. The WNBA just isn't the same as the NBA and everyone knows it, but this, we can pretend for a moment and see some great games.
Everything aside, these women were fun to watch. I’m glad the league-at the player’s’ behest-played the hockey they wanted to. The problem with women’s hockey is that they’ve been held to traditional rules. These women basically said “screw that, let us play”. Is it as good as men’s professional? No, it can never be. But letting them play to the same set of rules makes it enjoyable. The PW is the best women’s hockey I’ve ever seen, and I want to see more. IIHF women’s is boring, let the women play how they want to play. Stop putting on kid gloves with women that want to compete. The PW was great; this league might actually stand a chance. GO MONTREAL!!(next year 😂) Why do women have to wear a cage? Stop acting like women don’t want to compete. Let them make their own choices. Stop making the game soft for women, let the women make their own choices, and you’ll find a game that people want to watch. These women are professionals, stop treating them like kids.
I think boys and girls is more natural when talking about teams. For example I would say 'the boys showed up tonight' rather than ' the men showed up tonight.'
I was at the first game in Montreal (well, Laval) and even though we lost, the atmosphere was amazing and unlike anything in men's hockey. The crowd was both passionate and really good sport. We even ended up cheering for Boston's goalie who was named first star, something you'd never see in the NHL. Even my friend who came with me and doesn't understand hockey had an amazing time. 10/10 experience, I'll try to see more games next year for sure
As a Montreal fan that series was effing painful. And we DID outplay them 10/12 periods only to be stoned by the green monster Frankel at every turn. Rooting for Minnesota now!
Once again, mentioning the PWHL doesn’t get traction so the title and screencap become vague to drag the unsuspecting in. I get that you think this league is great Eck but you don’t have fake the rest of us into liking it. That’s rude.
This title isn't different from any other of his titles. The thumbnail was also clearly the pwhl. There are a lot of people watching the pwhl and want to see it covered by hockey media. You don't have to like it, nor is anyone forcing you to watch the rest of the video.
The league went from being a pitch to an active league in about 6 months, so there really wasn't any time to do team logos and jerseys beyond what you see. They're going to let team identity form over time.
I have only watched a couple games this post season... and i know this league is young and has a tone of room for growth... but it was some of the worst hockey I've ever seen. Not a shred of offensive push. A triple OT game ends 1-0 with only 1 total scoring chance for either team.... the announcers getting all hot and bothered over a 2 against 3 rush... it was pathetic. Either there is no offensive talent in this league (yet) or the coaching schemes/team defence is so good that the game grinds to a halt. Either way it's bad for business and I hope something changes fast.
Boring season and I can’t see it getting any better as ad supports drop out after the intro years. The women don’t even think it’s worth it. You can make more money other places as an elite skater so the one are two in the league can find better ways training guys in skating techniques to help them in the real league. Once a women makes into the nhl I’ll take this seriously.
