The 90s Cowboys were THE BEST team of all time. Jimmy had that team set up for AT LEAST 4 in a row if not 5. The only thing that stopped the Cowboys was Jerry Jones STUPIDITY and Free Agency. Dallas lost 45 players of their 53 man roster by 1997. The rest of the league never “caught up” to Dallas they just STOLE all of their players. Jerry didn’t know how to draft Jimmy DID!! You realize that Jimmy gave up the value of a first round pick to trade up for WR Jimmy Smith. They called him silk in practice because he was so smooth. He was slated to be Alvin Harpers replacement in 1995. In fact Jerry Jones felt so comfortable with him as the starter in 1994 he offered up Alvin Harper to trade up for Willie McGinest. When that trade fell through he cut Jimmy Smith kept Harper and signed crack boy Corey Fleming who the 40 Whiners had drafted but didn’t have the money to sign because they CHEATED on the 1994 salary cap, Smith had an emergency appendectomy in 1993 and almost DIED. Jerry tried not to pay him and called it a non football injury. Smith filed a grievance and won. Jerry held a grudge against him and cut him when he refused to take a pay cut. The tale of the tape? Jimmy Smith 862 catches and over 12,000 yards receiving Cory Fleming 8 catches fr 62 yards wearing Jimmy’s number in Dallas. Can you imagine how dominant Dallas is in 1995 with Jimmy on the other side of Irvin? Just make 1994 Jimmy’s 95 in Jacksonville and 96 his 1995. The Cowboys were the Bulls of the NFL.

I knew what free Agency would do to not only the NFL but ESPECIALLY the Cowboys who had the youngest, deepest and best team in the NFL all coming up on their contracts within a few years. In high school I fixed EVERY ISSUE with EVERY TEAM in the NFL with largely their own players. I still have those rosters memorized. I could have handed them to any GM in the league and they would have been happy, The 90s were the best era in NFL history. But free Agency destroyed that before the end of the decade. They destroyed the dynasty for today’s GARBAGE!! I can’t even watch the NFL anymore.

The Cowboys dynasty from 92 to 95, were and still are the best team ever. If Jerry Jones hadn't run jimmy Johnson off, they would of had 6 superbowls. Maybe more. They were loaded at every position and even all the backups at each position were good.

4 dude, first game was either Vikings/Packers or Eagles/Giants depending where you were. The NFL took advantage of the later window being available with CBS having the US Open through 2014, that's why they rarely had the week one doubleheader after their return in 1998

I am pretty sure O'Donnell feared for his life this day. Reggie White and Bruce Smith were FAR MORE TALENTED AND FEARED Than Haley. Haley was a very good pass rusher and the final piece of the puzzle for the defense. He got drafted into a great team and then traded to a great team. That being said he was actually replaced by a BETTER PLAYER in Tim Harris for the 40 Whiners. Harris had outplayed Haley 4 of 6 years as a starter in the NFL. In fact in 1992 alone he had as many sacks as Haley had in 91,92 and 93 COMBINED!! The 40 Whiners let him and Pierce Holt walk in their attempt to STEAL Reggie White in 1993. Haley was a great player who lucked out in who he played for.

I never tire of seeing the Dallas Cowboys fold, spindle and mutilate the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Cowboys currently lead in the all time series 17 wins to 15. A great rivalry between two teams with 11 Super Bowl Championships between them.
Even though I used to hate Pittsburgh, I had great respect for them. With 4 titles in 6 years, the team of the decade in the 1970s. The Cowboys, with 3 titles in 4 years, were the team of the 1990s.

If the Cowboys put forth this same opening day line-up in the 1994 NFC Championship Game, the Cowboys would have represented the NFC in Super Bowl 29. Unfortunately, Erik Williams was lost for the season (e.g., car accident), Larry Allen could barely move with a severely sprained ankle, and Emmitt Smith was playing with a bad hamstring. To make matters worse, Emmitt left the NFC Championship Game in the 4th quarter after pulling his OTHER hamstring.

PhilC they still would’ve lost because Switzer was a HORRIBLE coach. I love my cowboys but let’s be honest here: the 49ers had their number after beating them 3 straight games. If they hadn’t lost their season final which cost them home field in the playoffs allowing Dallas to beat up on helpless Arizona on Christmas Day and stay at home for playoffs, Dallas wouldn’t have won their 3rd SB in 4 years. Dallas was bad during last few games leading up to Arizona game. They got a huge break with SF loss. Then another when SF lost to GB following week in playoff game

Three weeks prior to the 49ers game, Erik Williams was lost for the season, Nate Newton had turf toe, and Derrick Kennard had a strained calf muscle. In addition to those injuries, Troy Aikman banged his throwing thumb on a teammates helmet during a blitz pick-up drill 2 days prior to the Week 11 showdown. It took another 2 weeks before his thumb was fully healed. The AFC and small market teams had 3 rounds to draft Joe Montana and didn’t. There are so many instances of great players out there and anyone could have had em but certain teams got em. It not like the teams that got those HOFers were the only ones who could have gotten them. Look at say Otis Anderson. The St. Louis/Phoenix Cardinals had this stud of a RB and wasted his prime early years on a crappy roster that wasnt going anywhere and they let him go when his value went down and got scraps for him and NY made him a champion. Meanwhile Dallas had the Herschel Walker trade, same situation great RB bad team. Dallas fixed their problem and St.Louis didn’t.

Haley had his best year in 94 as well. They also didn’t get swept by Washington like they did the following year. If it wasn’t for injuries and Erik Williams being in that car accident, the 94 team was one of their best teams ever, even without Jimmy. That, plus no Erik Williams due to his car accident a few weeks after this game, and the additions of Deion and William Floyd by the 49ers, tipped the scales to the 49ers this year. But, this team had so much talent, they nearly pulled off an amazing comeback in the NFC Championship game. Done in by the opening 5 minutes and an obvious pass interference by Deion.

Crazy thing is Larry Allen would replace him and that was his rookie yr and little did I know that he would be one the GREATEST to O LINEMEN in the NFL and U are exactly right If E Williams does not get in that accident we do win that Super Bowl in 94.

I’d say Jimmy Johnson not being coach, but Niners were really good that year too. Hard to speculate.

If you listen closely you can hear Chuck Noll whining that Dallas only won here because they were part of the criminal element (LOL!). 😅

Cowboys were just slightly better than the Steelers. Not by much though. Steelers had a great defense. But the should of drafted Marino.

In the 80s and 90s the biggest piece of the puzzle missing for Pittsburgh was a good QB.It makes me sick to think of how many more Super Bowls the Steelers would've won if they would have just drafted Dan Marino. The reason they didn't draft him is Beyond Stupid!!!

You're absolutely right about that...all those great defenses bill cowher had he could never get that one QB to put him over the top..... He had many heart breakin playoff losses in the 90s... He didn't get his Lombardi trophy until big ben arrived...
