Starship Troopers is a first-person shooter game developed by Strangelite Studios and published by Empire Interactive. The game is based upon the 1997 film Starship Troopers by Paul Verhoeven.
Set five years after the events of the film, the game lets players assume the role of 'Marauder Zero Six' as they assault the planet Hesperus which has been invaded by the Arachnids. The game features footage from both the original film and the sequel Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation (2004).
The single-player game features a campaign mode consisting of a series of missions connected by mission briefings. After a level is completed it is then available to play in a Level Attack mode, which is similar to a time trial mode, except a score and the number of kills are also recorded.
There are three different levels of difficulty, easy, medium, and hard. The level of difficulty affects the AI of the bugs, meaning they will notice you, and begin to attack you sooner on hard than on easy. The different levels also affect the amount of ammunition and grenades available throughout the missions, and the health of the bosses.
Most missions involve a player completing a single objective, with obstacles on the way. For example, the player's ultimate objective is to rescue comrades. The player may have to find the soldiers, protect them, retrieve supplies, fix equipment, and then escape.
During the course of a mission, a player may run into one or more bosses, often a Royal warrior or a bug that performs a heavy support role, such as a plasma bug or a tanker. As the game progresses, and tougher enemies are introduced, better guns are made available to the player.
Multiplayer in Starship Troopers consists of three different modes; Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and Co-op. The most popular mode is Co-op which sees players defending a mechanic from an onslaught of arachnids whilst retrieving parts to repair a dropship to escape in. The network and lobby functions of Starship Troopers were provided by Demonware who have now withdrawn the services.
Promised dedicated server and modification tools were never released, along with the closing of the official English forums player numbers in the multiplayer game were very low. The game also lacked any console or server commands which makes it impossible to execute a variety of necessary admin functions such as kick, ban or a map change. Lastly as the balancing of the weapons is directly inherited from the singleplayer mode this means that deathmatch play is not very competitive. A player who picks up the rocket launcher for example is likely to dominate the game because it scores significantly more damage compared to many other weapons, has an area of effect, can be fired rapidly and has a very large magazine.
Patches released for the game mainly focused upon improving the game's multiplayer mode. The latest, version 5.24 released in December 2005, introduced 4 new DM/TDM maps and 3 new co-op maps.
The game received mixed to negative reviews, scoring 3.8 (out of 10) on GameSpot and a 5 (out of 10) from IGN, with both sites stating technical issues, such as problems with the AI and archaic graphics as the reason for the low score. There are also very few character models, leaving most troopers looking identical. The sound bites used for the troopers voices are also repeated many times throughout the game, with some bites placed at inappropriate times.

Im pretty sure some company is trying to make Starship Troopers RTS.. look it up from youtube... but it will be probably flop.. RTS games arent good with 2 factions only... and noone plays them for the story... and i've heard there's a sequel movine in production atm...

This game was a PC killer when it was first released. I had to upgrade my 6 month old pc to get it to run on top settings without lag.

Just an FYI - there is a simple but fun base defence Starship Troopers mod on Squad that's pretty damn fun.
Also Terran Command is out, that's a fun one!

The EDF guys should remake this game
The shotgun is the perfect weapon for taking out bugs in a swarm except for armored ones.. Carbine for the armored ones tiger and up, even baby plasmas and tankers and rail gun for the rest.
Yeah it's great for mowing them down.

It didn't do so well, plagued with technical issues galore that most people couldn't even play it. I tried the demo and found massive issues running it.
Headless Chicken of Toronto yeah, I'm lucky enough to have a copy that still works. Really wish they would remake it though, just because I loved the whole concept of the swarm engine and having over 200 enemies on screen
It was the crysis of its day. Honestly you needed a truly monster PC to run it.
I played it and saw no issues at all, but then again, I do not cry for graphics or online stuff :)

Thing is it got pulled off steam in 2013 and any other site. Could get it on ebay or torrents but beware: tehnical issues that break the game could happen but rarely. The mission Bait (this one) is the most oftenly bugged mission.

Gostaria de um remaster deste jogo ou até novos lançamentos do mesmo, pois o Universo desta obra não precisa ser canônico com o do filme, dá para fazer vários games bons, sem precisar seguir a linha principal da história.
O foda é que não entendo de programação e desenvolvimento de jogos, minha área é a de metal mecânica, pois se eu fosse concursado nessa área e possuísse uma boa grana, com toda certeza faria algo bacana sobre Tropas Estelares e muito mais jogos dos mais variados tipos.
Só que ficar na frente de um computador por horas ( coisa que não consigo nem por 1 hora inteira ) desenvolvendo, realmente não é minha praia. Inclusive odeio ficar parado o dia todo, nunca conseguiria trabalhar em escritórios. Então fica complicado tentar pensar em criar uma plataforma.
Mesmo tendo muita vontade de fazer jogos bacanas e bem feitos ( vontade que as developers de hoje em dia não possuem mais ), não largo minha Fresadora Mecânica por um escritório nem a pau!

@@rossmahon2 Thanks for the advice but no dice. I've already been to that site and down loaded the patches and tested the recommended file settings. I'll probably give it another go in the future but for now I'm pretty sure I'll never get the chance to play this wonderful game.

It's kinda odd to see this when the first Halo game came out 4 years prior with almost the same level of graphics. Good video though.
RaeSyngKane Ya but the difference is the enemies on screen, hence the quality of graphics is low. The one thing they did right was capture the bugs accurately from the film!

Kurtis Gervais Only if you have nvidea videocard. With radeon i had to disable lights,set average shaders only to stop gane screen being totally blue. Then smoke spiders just cover whole my screen infinitely,so i can see absolutely nothing. And the final shit was totally black screen in sniper aiming. Without brightness setting in game i had to harm my eyesight to see fucking grey bitches shooting at me sitting on grey mountains.
Quick question, is the only way to get this game via Amazon, etc and also what would I need to run it on a Windows 10 computer?
thw game is quite old and the only system i know it works on are win xp and win 7.
only heard from people how it doesnt run on win 8 so i dont think you gonna get lucky with win 10

Came here with the objective of fully undestanding how to survive the part where general haus start sayinf "more, must have more" bring two rhinos, i almost kill both of then but the sheer amount of bugs kill me, then i see on the video i Have somehow be able to make until now without heavy shotgun, restarting the level, anyway what spec you used to play the game without crash? or does any sort of newer tech just work straight way?
