Starship Troopers is a first-person shooter game developed by Strangelite Studios and published by Empire Interactive. The game is based upon the 1997 film Starship Troopers by Paul Verhoeven.
Set five years after the events of the film, the game lets players assume the role of 'Marauder Zero Six' as they assault the planet Hesperus which has been invaded by the Arachnids. The game features footage from both the original film and the sequel Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation (2004).
The single-player game features a campaign mode consisting of a series of missions connected by mission briefings. After a level is completed it is then available to play in a Level Attack mode, which is similar to a time trial mode, except a score and the number of kills are also recorded.
There are three different levels of difficulty, easy, medium, and hard. The level of difficulty affects the AI of the bugs, meaning they will notice you, and begin to attack you sooner on hard than on easy. The different levels also affect the amount of ammunition and grenades available throughout the missions, and the health of the bosses.
Most missions involve a player completing a single objective, with obstacles on the way. For example, the player's ultimate objective is to rescue comrades. The player may have to find the soldiers, protect them, retrieve supplies, fix equipment, and then escape.
During the course of a mission, a player may run into one or more bosses, often a Royal warrior or a bug that performs a heavy support role, such as a plasma bug or a tanker. As the game progresses, and tougher enemies are introduced, better guns are made available to the player.
Multiplayer in Starship Troopers consists of three different modes; Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and Co-op. The most popular mode is Co-op which sees players defending a mechanic from an onslaught of arachnids whilst retrieving parts to repair a dropship to escape in. The network and lobby functions of Starship Troopers were provided by Demonware who have now withdrawn the services.
Promised dedicated server and modification tools were never released, along with the closing of the official English forums player numbers in the multiplayer game were very low. The game also lacked any console or server commands which makes it impossible to execute a variety of necessary admin functions such as kick, ban or a map change. Lastly as the balancing of the weapons is directly inherited from the singleplayer mode this means that deathmatch play is not very competitive. A player who picks up the rocket launcher for example is likely to dominate the game because it scores significantly more damage compared to many other weapons, has an area of effect, can be fired rapidly and has a very large magazine.
Patches released for the game mainly focused upon improving the game's multiplayer mode. The latest, version 5.24 released in December 2005, introduced 4 new DM/TDM maps and 3 new co-op maps.
The game received mixed to negative reviews, scoring 3.8 (out of 10) on GameSpot and a 5 (out of 10) from IGN, with both sites stating technical issues, such as problems with the AI and archaic graphics as the reason for the low score. There are also very few character models, leaving most troopers looking identical. The sound bites used for the troopers voices are also repeated many times throughout the game, with some bites placed at inappropriate times.

It was a fantastic game. It’s was really hard too, the A.I was awesome too your troops actually are helpful. This games is great during the mass battles\war missions.
I would say the game was really crap but had a few major battles where you could enjoy it. It had the potential.

Homie sat there for almost 15 minutes straight dumping EVERY round of ammo and going ham with the UAG, and the damn thing STILL wouldn't die. For a boss, that in itself would make me take the game out and snap the disc in half. No wonder this game was straight garbage

This looks like a precursor to Halo CE. Arty bug fire looks like covenant tank fire. Maurader armor and even some of the weapons looks the same like the scoped morita-> battle rifle, and shotgun morita -> assault rifle.
The Gun, some of the sound effects even sound similar, I swore too one of them sounded like the Halo CE Warthog Turret.

Even tho the game came out after CE, you're technically not wrong. Bungie era Halo took heavy inspiration from Starship Troopers (Original novel, 1997 movie and probably even the 80s anime OVA too), alongside Alien and Predator.
The troopers had such a Halo marines vibe in their behavior

How do you play the game with maxed out graphics? I can only play with none shadows and shaders on low. Is there a workaround?

@@DeviloftheHelll The caliber wasn't the problem. The problem was the lack of iron sights. There's literally a scene in the movie where 2 or 3 rounds to the body of a bug kills it.

Weird, my game ended after Offensive. No new mission was unlocked, and I got the Marauder title Legend after completing it.

You're supposed to shoot it at the reddish glowing area on its underside. Your shots to its armored exterior did nothing. It's not that it had too much health or anything

Tried playing this on win 10, mission 1 is good but on mission 2, all I get is audio and a black screen that sometimes goes white.

What graphic card do you use? also you have the link to download the game ... I have the game but I have problems so that I run in rx470, the telescopic sight of the rifle has a bug that practically can not be used ... My graphics card is a Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970. Depending on your graphics card, you will have to play around with drivers and also change code in the game files.
Why do you guys don't do a bit of research before playing an old game ? This is 1080p gameplay, but you didn't use the available widescreen fix, so your image is stretched. As for AMD cards if you have issues first install the latest patch, if that doesn't help try using WineD3D for Windows. i have played once, but it's kinda buggy, i have to change the setting because when i load the game, it just load a blank/black screen, after changed, i can't even use the scope on the Morita MK2 scope. But the gameplay is badass

How do you play this brainbug map? ive played this game for years! and just today i found files for a Brainbug map after trying to find a way to speed up the ammo crates, but i've never played it ever, is this cut content or an actual map in the game?
It's an actual map. Find a file/folder named Level_Brainbug.slak and change its name to Level_BrainBug.slak.
