    FYI: For those interested in Canada, the group at Alba Distribution (Squamish/Whistler--albadistribution.ca) carry EXT suspension. They'll give a discount if you order the ERA fork and the Storia shock together (as of late 2020....guess that could change anytime....when I was asking, it added up to a $350 CDN savings). I'm not affiliated with them at all but did chat with them--nice group. The crew at EXT suggested I contact them when I was asking about info on the Storia.

    Nice little initial Review, and nice choice in suspension!
    I have the Era and Storia on my Druid, and what a great combo! I found the best feature was how supple the beginning of the stroke was, at speed through rough chatter it performed like a little trophy truck! I was coming off of a Manitou Mezzer, so I was already accustomed to how a good fork rides high in its travel.

    • @FifeFlow
      @FifeFlow  3 года назад +2

      Thanks I’m super impressed and happy with it! Sent some big drops today and all went well until my husband led me to land in some rocks 7 ft down and I couldn’t hold on so my face got wrecked. Well a little wrecked...but yeah fork is sweet! It’s a new feeling for me so happy to hear it’s favorable to the mezzer!

    • @Martin-gh8uq
      @Martin-gh8uq 3 года назад +2

      Hi Kirk, could you please say little bit more on how Era compers to Mezzer?
      I'm wondering if it's really worth double of the the Mezzer price...

    • @kmagrum76
      @kmagrum76 3 года назад +3

      @@Martin-gh8uq The 2 forks are both great! (I also use an Öhlins RXF M2 and 21' Fox36, which i find sub par to these 2)
      They both feel similar in how rigid they are, also similar in mid stroke support (riding high in the travel). The Era has the Mezzer beat in how well it uses its travel and the small bump compliance. It is just a little smoother over all the fast high speed hits, if that is the type of riding you like doing it is worth it! IMHO. Also this fork is crazy good at climbing tech trails! the suppleness really eases the front end over the square edge hits and whatnot, with little effort. ( you almost need to try it to believe it for yourself)
      If riding flow trails is your thing, this fork probably isn't for you. The benefits this fork offers really don't shine on those type of trails IMO
      The Mezzer is probably 85-90% of what the Era is. Maybe a Mezzer/Storia combo for close to the price of the Era? They work well together!

    • @Martin-gh8uq
      @Martin-gh8uq 3 года назад +1

      @@kmagrum76 Thanks for coming back to me. I'm currently on Fox 36 grip2(runt) + storia and find it rather unbalanced combo. I'm fairly close to EXT distributor in UK (Mojo) so I have tested ERA recently and love it!
      Unfortunately is not that easy to test Mezzer here.A lot of Mezzer reviews mentioned qualities that I have experienced in ERA such as suppleness of the top and high ride and wise usage of travel.
      My riding consists mix of freeride jump lines and high speed DH my Fox 36 was always on the stif side 95-100psi so I would imagine any fork will be improvement is small bumps.
      My main goal is to match Storia so both ends are well balanced - ERA does it perfectly. Would I loose anything in that department ?
      The next priority is handling high speed impacts, square edges and braking bumps - again ERA is flattening everything so well. How far is Mezzer?

    • @paul.p.smellthetruth2667
      @paul.p.smellthetruth2667 3 года назад

      Can you please say exactly how the mezzer compares to the Era in regards of large square edged hits and fast repetitive stuff like roots and braking bumps?
      2. Does the era use less travel but still feel nicer for the hands on longer hard rides than the mezzer?

    "I haven't yet taken this fork to its limit but I'm looking forward to it." That's motivatin'. Are you contagious because I would like you to hang around other girls and get them into the sport or I'll end up being single forever, lol.

      @FifeFlow  3 года назад

      Well I took it to it’s limit yesterday doing some big girl drops but I also found my limit and my face hit the dirt once 😅 I think riding in general is contagious. Also I hope this is helps. When I met my husband I didn’t even though what mtb really was but he was patient and taught me and put in a lot of slow rides but now I might be more addicted than he is to riding 🤭

    Ouchey! 19 hundo on trail forks? Say wuhhhh? I just dropped $1100 on a Rockshox Zeb and thats a well known high end fork. Tough to justify $1900 on a Rockshox or Fox fork let alone a non Rockshox or Fox "1st model" fork..

    • @FifeFlow
      @FifeFlow  3 года назад

      Yeah I totally get it. I have used both Fox and rockshox and they both have good qualities about them. And I have had friends that love their Zeb so congrats! What I’m expecting is that production streamlines and volumes increase I hope to see cost drop. What is special is that it’s made in Italy in a fair work environment with highly paid technical experts. Nothing against the big brands. EXT is something special and I’m willing to support the movement :)

    As a person who use to semi-race p-cars, but enjoyed setting up suspensions with various springs & helper springs to deal with bumpy tracks specifically, I've recently got into mountain biking and I've been thinking these last few weeks about similar ideas, and sure enough, this video pops up and I see this mini 'helper' spring in this design and I immediately knew why they did this. This isn't the answer for most people out there, but you can do crazy things to dial in a suspension and it doesn't surprise me this is now being done.

      It's not just the damper that makes the fork feel awesome. The crown design, air spring and overall build quality all contribute to the way it works. There's no comparison to other forks on the market.

    • @FifeFlow
      @FifeFlow  3 года назад +1

      I haven’t ridden that set up but I’ve certainly heard great things. I think out of the box this is for sure the top quality as described by our good guy below. I think the tolerances are one of the biggest improvements from mass produced suspension and the break-in period is almost immediate. Hope you get a chance to try it!

    Do you notice any added suppleness at the beginning of the stroke from the mini-coil in there? I have my eye on this fork as an option for light riders who find the conventional air forks to be a bit stiff at the start.

    • @mixmastamikal
      @mixmastamikal 3 года назад +2

      I have one and I would say yes to that. As the ERA begins moving from static condition the coil is being compressed up to the point that the required break away force to get the air spring moving is achieved so the initial "sticition" that is felt with a standard air spring is essentially eliminated. Also it should be noted the spring will come into play anytime the fork is unweighted regardless of where you are in the travel not just the initial amount of travel in the fork.

    • @FifeFlow
      @FifeFlow  3 года назад +1

      I am still messing around with my set up and who knows if it’s the little coil or just good tolerances but off the top it’s super buttery even when pumped up higher
