What’s your favourite feature?
The V8 that they left in the factory
the price, which you conveniently didn't mention, is by far the car's best feature.
All these features are nice. Still, the perfect Merc E'24 should have the EQE's interior and the E-Class body.
The swollen smartphone-like gauge cluster in the latter is a sabotage.
Things like the HEPA filter great feature
The anti-theft feature
Imagine owning this car out of warranty ^_^'
Would be reliable, but expensive if anything went wrong.
@@Youcallthesebagels_ And there's plenty to go wrong! No thanks, it's not for me.
Imagine even buying it
@@Youcallthesebagels_ It's a Merc, so bound to go wrong
I can't. All EVs are going to be disposable. No one is going to want a use EV with a battery that is at 50% in 6-7 years.
That theft simulation was the best demonstration of a car feature EVER
Yes this is the best one
To be fair - Tesla has had this feature forever. And it captures video, not just pictures.
@@texastriguy and it’s a legal grey area
That window feature is awesome when I want to leave my kids in the car on a hot sunny day while I gamble their lunch money on the pokies.. 😎👌
All vw group cars for years now have that feature for the windows in the key implemented. I use it in my Leon Cupra 300 all the time. You just keep the unlock button pressed and the windows open as long as you keep it pressed or the opposite with the lock key button...so you can adjust the windows open as much as you like.
Also which window will do that is selectable from the car infosystem.
Hahahah helll yeaaaaaa
The rear and front steering feature also amaizing
@@johnnyxp64yes boss
Real parenting!!
absolutely insane features, i love it. the HEPA filter with real time monitoring is very cool
Yes no doubt cool
The reversing camera being behind the badge at the back is exactly the same as on my BMW 6 series and means that it stays clean and avoids the use of pointless and daft camera washer jets as featured on some other BMWs.
My VW Polo rear badge has the exact same reverse camera + boot open function.
Technical Achievement must be measured in reliability as well as accessibility. The tech has to actually KEEP working to be considered beneficial.
Be careful, you might scare away some customers from this bottomless money pit.
@@haveaseatplease Mercedes are very reiliable - and if you get them new as lease cars, no problem at all. If you buy them lets say in 20 years? Different story
@@bavariancarenthusiast2722 So why are Mercedes cars currently one of the least reliable on the market?
@@phuketexplorer Data shows that Mercedes are used to introducing too much technology into their cars and then forget to polish it unlike Toyota. Toyota still use the old technologies they introduced many years ago because they try as much as possibe to refine it. German introduce theirs and leave it to die then they introduce another. But when it comes to Engine, they can last. We have mercedes that last over 20 years without any mechanical issues but with their built-in computer modules, they are not realiable. I also made a research and found out that. most of the computer modules are not built by Mercedes: mostly Bosch whiles Toyota Denso's is an in house technology industry. If Mercedes must be reliable again, then they should maintain their technolgies they introduce and refine it just like. the new E class they introduced will have a different OS powering the car, who does that?
Cheap car manufacturers don't build in new technologies, so less happens. Mercedes has always been a pioneer in new technology.
You have to look at it from the standpoint of Mercedes-Benz: once the 2 year warranty period is over, they can charge you an arm and a leg to replace or repair all those electronic niggles. Because, you know, every single one of them will fail rather soon than later.
2-year warranty? What market is this?
I have owned about 5 Mercs in my life starting with a 350 SL and the most problems I had was with electronics, so I wasn't going to buy a fully electric one.
Never an issue I buy an extended warranty that covers everything work the extra 60 a month I pay.
People who can afford this car won’t be driving it for more than 3 years 😂 but the 2nd hand market buyers are going to be paying those bills
8:51 Playing Tetris on a mediocre touch screen of a £100k luxury car in 2023 when you could play GTA San Andreas on a smartphone in 2013 🗿
Playing gta on a smartphone is a dumb idea
You can play GTA 5 in a tesla...with a controller or mouse and keyboard
This is just telling me this car will probably not have the longevity it could have had if it was more mechanical.
Less moving parts than an ICE car though
You're not meant to own a car anymore! They are a vastly depreciating asset! Buy one new & lose 25% of it's value driving onto the road! 20%VAT & 5% as it is not new anymore! Taxed, lnsured & registered. At 3 years old (if in Good condition &low mileage) it could be worth half of what you paid for it! How many 3 year Old or more cars on a franchise dealers fore court? NONE! So lease over 3 or 4, 5 (for Kia & Hyundai.)
@@kevinburke6743 we live in a society
It's definitely impressive as a novelty item, however this wears off rather quickly. The feature that one will use the most is the navigation - and that looks dead on arrival; the cheapest iPad currently on sale has better graphic performance than that. The lag would drive me crazy to the point to not using it.
As for diagnosing and fixing this out of warranty - that should be fun!
Isn't the rear steering angle enabled by an annual subscription? I thought it's limited to less than half if you don't pay.
It’s really not bad and the design is the best on the market
They put so many gadgets in it because they don’t know how to improve the car as an EV. Under current technology limitation, battery consuming functions were the least desirable things.
This makes me want to keep my 2005 Audi on the road forever.
Just buy a new Lexus or Toyota they’re always 15 years behind on technology lmao
@@sebass9578 Audi>Lexus/Toyota
Really enjoyed that. Absolutely amazing what they have done. The particulate filter is impressive.
I wouldn’t want to foot the bill for maintenance, put it that way. 😂
@@lutzaby1997 and another 5k for the mechanical engineers.
Plus tax..
Then they’ll tell you about the next problem separately. 😂
I remember when I was just happy to have a car with power steering, electric windows and a sunroof.
I would trade all of this merc tech if I could get rid of all highway cameras, Congestion zone, ULEZ and take the price of petrol back to 72p a litre. Those were the days when driving was fun and you wasn't bent over backwards just to see another part of the UK. Memories.
Great presentation Rory and the Autotrader team👍
Very educational, Rory!! Another great vid!!👍🙂
Hmmm… So, when you buy a second hand 7 year old one with 1 yr left in the battery, you’re not just going to have a hugey bill for a new bat, but others related to all that electronics that will start being troublesome. For example, how many sensors are there for all these extras?
Most of the vehicles I've owned had a sunroof. I've never left the roof or windows open on a rainy day, but the feature using the rain sensor to close them is something that's worthwhile.
There's definitely too much technology. Don't get me wrong. It's a luxury car and I would expect some luxury items. Massaging seats? Definitely. Great sound system and head unit features? Definitely, but give me buttons and knobs. I can adjust my mirrors too..
Surprised you didn't go over any of the interior ambient lighting stuff. It looks like a Tron movie in there at night
Can’t imagine driving at night surrounded by all that neon, feeling like you’re sitting in booth at a night club.
Just took delivery of an EQS, and was previously aware of basically every featured outlined, but the demos were absolutely fantastic! Hope I’ll never need to use the thief alert or maximize use of the HEPA filter, but it’s amazing to see how both work so I have some reassurance in the back of my mind-this is the content I come here for!
Rory and AutoTrader just created one of the best car shows. engtertainment yet serious enough. The guy is great to watch and his team makes great cat TV.
I've never seen any independent tests of cabin air quality in cars, which is kind of ridiculous given that good filtration could *literally save your life*.
I know Tesla uses big HEPA filters like this in the Model X and 2016+ Model S, but does anyone know of other models that do?
Many Chinese cars tend to have HEPA filters, and I think the MG ZS EV does in the UK.
All versions of the Tesla model Y have it. Driving through Rotherhithe tunnel today (whose air quality is soooo bad), can’t smell a thing.
My 1991 Honda Prelude had rear wheel steering, great for parking A little cheaper than this car!
The rear and front steering feature also amaizing
Yeah😂
Bad example. The rear-wheel steering was developed by Mercedes.
All that brilliant tech, but still can't do 400 miles on a 5 minute refuel all year round.
Amazing review. I watched many reviews of this car but any of them were so interesting and informative. Thank you.
The tech is incredible. Just imagine when it goes wrong
Now I feel good!
My 14 year old Skoda superb has rain closing feature on windows too! 😍
But that was not developed by Skoda. 😉
Are we getting to the point where a small accident means the car is written off as a total loss? What's the replacement costs for all this tech should it break or you have an accident?
If you own a car like this, you would WANT it to be written off entirely. Nothing like a $140k S class that has been in an accident. Talk about value depreciation. I would much rather get a new car. But hey! To each their own
@@Kenbark42 it's written off at 'market value'. ie. the value insured. Which is only about 80% the price you paid when you drove it off the lot. So yeah, it'll still cost abit. But at your wealth level, it doesnt matter - you're not a peasant.
@@ezralimm Ouch, but still. Having a car like this with serious accident history it may as well be worth 40k since it would be hard to sell for more than that with a serious accident in a car as expensive to look at as the S Class.
The fact that in such high tech car the UI is laggy as hell, is embarassing
Very sad they couldn’t afford to put a modern processor in a $150k car. But then again, they need a reason for the owner to upgrade in a few years.
It’s indeed the most technological car in the world though other brands will copy but Mercedes is a masterpiece of tech
True sir
Not really its not. Mercedes is top in ICE cars. In EV age this falls apart by Chinese EVs such as Nio ET7, Xpeng G9, Li Auto L9, Hiphi X etc
Do people who watch this channel just not know that Tesla has literally had all of this tech for many, many years now? And so so much more? Its kinda shocking that people are amazed at stuff Tesla has in their Model Y
Most engaging and easy to understand showcase of the car's top features!
Awesome review, I’m receiving my 43 AMG in a week or 2 and I’ve seen tons of videos but all about driving experience etc…This one is targeting the tech on that car and thanks to you, I’ve learned a lot and might be able to skip 280 pages of the owner’s manual 😅. Thanks again 👍🏼
Don't really have a standout favorite feature, I was impressed by it all. Give us a proper review, Mr Rory, do it already fam.
I have a 200 90 Toyota Corolla matrix. It’s under powered has no sophistication whatever is a tiny little hatchback and men do I love it! That Mercedes is a beautiful car, but it does not need that much technology.
As an EV owner, the answer to the question is YES, there is such a thing as too much tech. It's honestly putting me off EVs more and more as there's nothing being done about driver experience/feedback/theatre of driving. Maybe the Taycan GTS offers a glimmer of hope, but there's still a long way to go imo. Excellent review as ever though Rory!!!!
I love the way you demonstrate the features xD
Based on Mercedes last place customer satisfaction, I'd say yes!
Adding additional complexity and multiple potential points on failure to reduce the turning circle from 12m to 'less than' 11m - what a time to be alive!
Love Merc and their innovations!
I've been thinking - Rory = Autotrader !
The reviews don't get better than this !
Aren't most of these features just a bit pointless, used a few times maybe something to impress your friends then rarely used again. Yes I agree the camera security system is just great and would be used a lot but some of the other things mmmm not so much, more gimmicks than real world useful.
Saying all that though amazing technology 👏
As always, Flawless review ! Thumbs up 👍 .
How do you adjust the mirrors if you’re cross eyed
The more tech you add, the less character you have.
Going analogue today is an excellent way to distinguish your luxury vehicle from every other brand with interchangeable interiors. Imagine getting into an EV that has analogue gauges, a hideaway infotainment screen, copper or brass detailing and controls that have juuuuust the right amount of feedback and make satisfying sounds. Even one of Bugatti's design directives for the interior of the Chiron was "no obvious technology", because they wanted the interior to not age like an 80's Aston Lagonda. Modern luxury cars are going to age like milk; they're disposable, which is antithetical to what luxury means...or used to mean, anyway.
That’s map alone is enough for tech enthusiasts to buy this car..
Trust Rory to fan the flames of Merc VS BMW war with that diesel cameo 😆😆
Amaizing digital head lights with 1.3m individual pixls waooo🔥🔥🔥
My 2023 MINI Countryman Exclusive ALL4 has that ventilation feature.
That rain close feature were avaliable on all MQB cars, starting from 2014+.
The golf 4 had had it first. Much earlier
Very nice video Rory. But for the record: Window venting, sentry mode, hepa filter...these are all Tesla firsts. They are well executed by Merc, but these features have been standard on all Teslas for years. Just saying.
Good point. And highly relevant. Also for the record: tesla was not the first electric car. There were many other electric cars before Tesla came along. 🤓
There's technology in the Harry Potter book? Great comparison.
Lot of really awesome tech like the automatic time function i.e massage seat for things you do on certain days.
HEPA filters have been used in quality vacuum cleaners for decades. It's kind of surprising that they've not been used in a car before really.
All vw group cars for years now have that feature for the windows in the key implemented. I use it in my Leon Cupra 300 all the time. You just keep the unlock button pressed and the windows open as long as you keep it pressed or the opposite with the lock key button...so you can adjust the windows open as much as you like.

2018 Mini Cooper Countryman, same.
This review of features is next level 👍👍
Dope reviews for days Rory
Amazing that new Mercedes cars have presents based on driver height.
My father bought a 2012 SL350 a week ago as a weekend drive, and my head was touching the roof with the roof up at 5'9". With the roof off, my hair was messed up in 5 minutes.
This is a common feature on newer vehicles, which will make them horrible used cars. One of the reasons I bought a pristine older analog car. Without the tech. (Gadgets) imho a technique to raise prices and have little real world positive effect. I really didn't want mirrors that fold and tire sensors that are just an annoyance. Or a car that prematurely wears out my starter and battery turning on and off all the time. Some gadgets are nice. Autostop and auto cruise control are cool. But if your going to try to sale gadgets? How about where's the radar and cheapest fuel?
1:30 this is such an amazing feature.
The Skyline GTR had this 24 years ago.
Let that sink in
Wow well done to Merc AMG. Awesome looks and technology at another level.
That AMG badge is beginning to mean less and less everyday.
It's going to spend half its life in the repair shop, having some irrelevant issue being diagnosed because the owner only read the first few pages of the instruction book
Much better than a Tesla🚀
Yup, I want one!! 💓
Kudos to them for pushing the boundaries!
Rory, the best auto reviewer on you tube! Now, give us your candid driving review for the EQS AMG.
Does it track your head or eyes for the mirrors? I move my eyes not my head when adjusting the mirrors.
Based on my experiences with my C63s, they need to focus more on build quality and keeping maintenance costs reasonable. Before you say “it’s an AMG what’d you expect ya poor” pads/rotors shouldn’t cost 5k. Can’t imagine what this thing would look like after 3 years
The price apparently on one 'projector' headlight unit on this car is 4k - Standard EQS LED headlight is 2k and thats from aliexpress! Replacement rotors/pads is 7k as they are even bigger than the c63s. There is no longevity on this car whatsoever. Drive it until it's first major service and you most likely need pads/rotors. I reckon that first full out-of-warranty service would be in excess of 10k. Utterly pointless motor due to unaffordable maintenance costs.
I am probably the wrong audience for this car but I've gone to just wanting the basics, but basics that are made out of high quality materials that don't creek or rattle. I want simplicity and all these gargets not to take my attention away from the road. I don't need LED lights or a computer or a wide screen monitor in my car, it's still not as good and as smooth as using your phone. I just need the car to integrate seamlessly with my phone. Other than that, give me electric windows, mirrors, central remote locking and that's it. I don't even need auto lights. I'll install a dash cam myself. I will admit though that I like BMW's reverse memory feature
If you wanted to have fun in this car with someone at a particular time everyday, it will probably detect it, adjust the seat to the desired position, and play some music. 😂
Great Job Rory. Please make one on BMW's new Idrive system too..
This vs the i7 should be fun since the Lucid is not there yet to do comparison against.
I just gone one. It's fabulous
I love the HEPA filter the most. But the truth is that Mercedes cars don't play nice with depreciation. I wonder if their electric cars are different.

All those techs are in 2017 BMW M6. BMW does mirror adjustment automatically by the position on the driver seat and the angle on the face.
That's the kind of tech every car should have.
Every Tesla has had all this and a lot more for a long time now.
Thoroughly enjoy this channel.

I’d like to see a full video 👍
I actually love the design of this. Very understated and timeless. Much preferred over the new 7 series tub on wheels.
Agreed. I know a lot of people don't like the EQS, and the trend is for sharp creases and elaborate detailing like you get on an Audi. But to me, nothing looks better than streamlined, aerodynamic, and a clean design with details just where they need to be for functional reasons.
That's generally what you get with the EQS, with the arguable exception of the nosecone. There are prettier cars that adhere to those principles, but personally I quite like it.
This is a blob on wheels.
A full review, please Rory!
Loved this ❤
The more features they have, the more they can charge subscription fees to..... you know..... ACTUALLY use the features in YOUR car....(the tesla model of car ownership is spreading)
So amazing, but back in the day we had horses and you could sit on one and it would take you places automatically..... and you could enjoy fresh air while on the go as well.
Hi there Autotrader! Is there ever going to be a new Motorcycle review video? I loved those in the past!
This car screams, "Once I am out of warranty, I will bankrupt you." Is sort of the vibe I am getting.
They been doing this for decades. In fact this is pretty mild! In the 90s they had it TECHED out with stuff that went out of date in like less than 8 years
Going by the title I was expecting an interesting opinion piece about today's Mercedes models becoming too high-tech
Wow,just wow...👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

The way I see it is this… the internal combustion engine has been with us for over 100 years since the days of Karl benz . Through the 100 years, we have accrued so much knowledge and research about the internal combustion engine, we have refined them , made them sound pitch perfect. But around 2010s things changed , regulations became much more fierce ( emission and noise standards)as the media pushed the narrative of global warming ,pushing it to the forefront of the minds of people and policy makers , forcing cars to be built in a certain way . The w204 for me represents a time in car history that is the culmination of what humanity learned over the past 100 years to perfect the internal combustion and essentially jjst before all the regulations came in, or in other words , when the fruit was the ripest on the internal engine combustion tree. It also a time jjst before everything became electrified , the w204 still retains physical buttons to turn up the heat, to open the glove box to turn of traction etc , not go through endless menus via a massive screen like in modern cars. This is why I feel the w204 really captures a very unique pinnacle time on automotive history …
You need to practice your Tetris skills Rory :P. Only thing I dont like about the new Electric Merc's is the look! The 2022 ICE AMG's are peak design.
