Brother..Thank you so much!!!! I watched your vid this morning before work and replaced my pads on my '99 Accord after work. I am not mechanically inclined at all, and i did both front pads in half an hour..Aloha from Hawaii my Brother and Thanks again for this video...😄
VERY IMPORTANT BOYS AND GIRLS !!!! YOU NEED TO REMOVE THE CAP FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER (BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR) BEFORE COMPRESSING THE PISTON IN THE CALIPER. OTHERWISE YOU COULD CAUSE A LEAK IN THE BRAKE SYSTEM BY FORCING IT. Dude you really should of mentioned this, some people out there don't have common sense...smh
My husband said I should put brake grease on the ends of my brake pads where they sit inside of the slide guides. This is do to the fact that they are moving parts and will help them from binding as they slide. Is this true? If so why wasn't this mentioned in your video. Thank you for this information. This was a very informative video for a girl like me to understand.
thank you for the great video. I will be attempting my Honda Odyssey brake pad job tomorrow, the good Lord willing, and hope to have good results. Your video game me the needed gumption to try it. I bought the same brake pads you used, and will still be far cheaper than the brakes and exhaust places prices.
Thanks for the video and instruction. . Sure took the mystery out of doing the break job on my 1998 honda accord. Replacement went exactly as shown. Thanks again.
I finally got around to watching this one... great video (don't have any brakes to fix right now, but will definitely keep this one in mind to fall back on)
instead of C clamp to reset caliper piston use long screw driver, insert into hole on caliper & pry piston flush before removing caliper, found on fix book video BUT Tool Dude TONY's video is the easiest & BEST I'VE SEEN TO to replace pads
Thank you very much. Clearly explained and done. Great video. Well done. Hey. Crocks are very comfortable for kicking around the house. Thanks again. To remember when I look at this video again before I start: REMOVE THE CAP FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER (BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR) BEFORE COMPRESSING THE PISTON IN THE CALIPER. OTHERWISE YOU COULD CAUSE A LEAK IN THE BRAKE SYSTEM BY FORCING IT.
Thanks for the video TDT! I'm going to help my son replace his pads (he has the exact same vehicle, it's even black!), and I was wondering why you didn't mention the necessity of taking the cover off the master cylinder before compressing the piston. Is there something special about Honda brake systems that negates the need to do this? My apologies if another viewer has already mentioned this.
No, taking the cap off the fluid reservoir before compressing the caliper piston is something you should do. Sorry about leaving that out of the video.
Hi Donald. The top bolt holds the top of the caliper and doesn't move or pivot or anything. It is not necessary to grease it. Good idea on the wire brush work. Thanks
Tony, should the upper caliper bolt be greased also? I find the brake pads corrode at the stationary part of the brake housing. I usually wire brush the ends where the pads slip in and grease them with the high temp brake grease.
Great video! Have a question. I bought front break pads for Honda Dealer but I two break pads came with a metallic thing to put grease on back on the them but other did not. Would something happen if I put in in without metal thing and without grease.
Thanks Tony. I been doing this for years. There is something that I saw you do that I will start doing. Using the old brake pad with the c clamp to push the caliper back in. I bought lifetime brakes at Auto Zone. I kept the old pads that I took off the car and use those as a "core" when it's time to replace the brakes on my car again. That way I can drive the car to Auto Zone and get my "lifetime replacement " and replace them when I am ready. But if you can change oil you can do this easy easy.
Thanks, looks a lot easier than my Navigator! A friend changed my breaks a while back and it took forever. That seems pretty simple now that i see it done. Not sure what the problem was in the past ?? Cheers
Hello Tony, while changing the break pads of my Honda accord 2002 (LX) the mechanic broke the head of Bleed Screw which remains on Caliper Body. the break works fine, but do i need to change the Caliper Body ?
parking brake should be put on? or wheels chalked off? extra jack stand in case the pump slips off or fails. when spraying brake cleaner be sure not to get it on paint! for SAFETY SAKE! A tip for the grease. sometimes the "dogs" as you call them can make a squeaking noise as well. A tip for the bolt. that mounts to the rubber gasket sometimes petroleum based lubricants can speed up the break down process of the rubber. recommended lube silicone paste. thanks! Source:EricTheCarGuy
+RicYouSick Happens to us all the time. You will need to use a breaker bar, or 1" diameter 1-2 foot long steel pipe for more leverage, to loosen those rust or hard to loose bolts.
well shit, thats it? wish I would of looked up how to do this along time ago.....would the procedure for most cars be the same, for example a 2006 honda pilot?
No need for antisieze? Cuz 2 years down the road when we go to do this job again we can break the bolts and replace them rather than easily turn them off. Oh and it might be a good idea to pop the cap off the reservoir so that you don't bust a brake line or damage the brake system. But Mr backyard mechanic you know everything correct?
I left this out of the video: You need to take the cap off the brake fluid reservoir before you compress the piston. With that off, it won't be so tough to compress. Sorry for omitting that.
Kishan Patel If there is dirt or corrosion on the outside of the exposed part of the piston, this can make it hard to push back in. Try cleaning the outside of the piston with brake cleaner (acetone). It takes quite a bit of force, so make sure to use a c-clamp. Something like a quick clamp might not be enough force.
Kishan Patel If the piston won't compress, there may be corrosion (rust) in the piston causing it to jam or retract hard. This will also may cause excessive wear on the pad and heating of the rotor because the cylinder cannot retract when you take your foot off the brakes. Also, my 98 Accord is a sedan and the piston is not hollow , rather it has a cross hatch on it. (might only be on the back brake pistons due to the emergency (cable) brake. You need to turn those in. If you cannot get the piston to retract with a clamp, you should consider replacing the whole caliper with a rebuilt one for about $100 (I just replace my right rear caliper and pad holding bracket on the rear for ~ $75). It a all the pins and boots, and sliding wear parts are included as well. Take the old parts in as there is a core charge if you do not exchange the parts. Good luck. Local library is also a great place to get instructions for a brake job on a specific car. Take some Dimes to make copies. i.e. Chiltons or Mitchell repair books.
Your best bet is to go to your favorite auto parts store and tell them what you told me. They can look up the part number and order one for you. Get a nut too. Thanks
Hey tony I was wondering if you could make a video on how to channel water. I don't need anything coming from my downspouts. I need to channel water on the side fence and along the back fence and run off into a stream. hate that my backyard is so mushy after a rain. Sorry, I don't know how to message in youtube. Thanks.

+uselogic22 Thanks for this safety tip.
Best brake video I've seen for this car so far! Thank you!!!
I JUST CHANGED THE BRAKES ON MY 2000 ACCORD!! THANKS TO YOU SIR!!! U ROCK!!!
Was it the exact same process cause I need to change mine soon
YES!! EXACT SAME!

Great Video. good lighting! Very clear & easy to understand.
Thank you very much. Clearly explained and done. Great video. Well done.

great video and made with humor! will give it a go an save myself the 800 bucks I was quoted for the 4 wheels - thanks!
wait,so on the accord you just have to undue the bottom bolt and flip it up?? wow! i can do that,is that all??
This was the easiest way to replace the front brakes on my 2000 Accord
Wrong grease for the slide pin bolts plus grease both bolts. One more comment on old rotors check the thickness to make sure they are not too thin.
first time doing it myself and this video help out so much. thanks tony!
Thank you for making this video so simple ;and infromative.
damn i put the gel on the other side of the pad
Thanks for the video TDT! I'm a huge fan of cleaning the caliper while I'm there and using a toothbrush around the piston. Calipers need loving too...
+Kyle Hooks Great idea to keep parts clean to protect your investment. How do you clean the caliper?
Wire brush, elbow grease, brake cleaner, isopropyl alcohol, and then primer and paint
For the multi purpose grease can i use silicone 3m paste on that bolt?
Thanks for video. Easy brake job I have seen. Will do mine this time
Hi Donald. The top bolt holds the top of the caliper and doesn't move or pivot or anything. It is not necessary to grease it. Good idea on the wire brush work. Thanks
Wow, that looked so easy! Thanks for your work!
Thanks for the great simple and informative video Tony!
Very clear video and you made that look easy.
Thank you kindly for your informative and instructional video. Will be doing mine this coming weekend!
Tony, should the upper caliper bolt be greased also? I find the brake pads corrode at the stationary part of the brake housing. I usually wire brush the ends where the pads slip in and grease them with the high temp brake grease.
Thanks man. Just followed your advice and did it. Keep up the good works.
Great video! Have a question. I bought front break pads for Honda Dealer but I two break pads came with a metallic thing to put grease on back on the them but other did not. Would something happen if I put in in without metal thing and without grease.
Thank you. Mr. Tony. Have a good day.
Thanks Tool Dude. Saved me $$$$.
Nice little bonus at the end =)
great video Tony! what size c-clamp are you using?
A 6" C-clamp is what I used. Quick & easy. Don't forget to uncap the brake fluid reservoir first.
thank you, bogigasdad
Thanks Tony. I been doing this for years. There is something that I saw you do that I will start doing. Using the old brake pad with the c clamp to push the caliper back in.

I just change my own brakes!!!!!! yaaayyyeee Thanks!

Thank you so much:). This video was detailed and helpful, I successfully changed my brakes. I subscribed too!
Hello Tony, while changing the break pads of my Honda accord 2002 (LX) the mechanic broke the head of Bleed Screw which remains on Caliper Body. the break works fine, but do i need to change the Caliper Body ?
Thanks Mr. Tony, this is really helped.
Nice job on the video.. very straight forward and helpful...
Thanks g... the video was koo and straight to the point..... It was funny too!
Great! Thanks for video can i do the same for 98 civic?
@etheromlet: I have done any pilots. The procedure should similar, but not identical on most vehicles with disk brakes.
How do I loosen my capiler nut if it is super hard like is there any tips to make it easier?
I'm having the same problem as well
u da man tool dude
Thanks for sharing your video and good luck tony
How long should it take for you to get a solid pedal? Like 5 minutes or less?
Yes, no more than 5 minutes or something else is wrong.
tool dude tony is awesome bro!!!
Great video thanks man
Awesome video man!!
Really helpful! :] Gracias Sr. Tony!
Same for the rear on my 1998 Odyssey?
thanks bro very Helpful Thumbs up
shouldn't that grease on the caliper bolt be high temp grease?
😂😭😂 turbo mode. hahaha thx for the video man. great tutorial
your awesome bro thanks.

What kind of grease caliper bolt?
i'm having problems removing the bolts on the bottom caliper, any help?
+RicYouSick Happens to us all the time. You will need to use a breaker bar, or 1" diameter 1-2 foot long steel pipe for more leverage, to loosen those rust or hard to loose bolts.
Totally had one of those burlap looking starbucks tumblers, probably 5-6 years old now. neat
Nice to the point.. 2 thumbs up
GoodJob Tony
Thank you.
Thank you for this video. Saved me money let me buy you a beer.
well shit, thats it? wish I would of looked up how to do this along time ago.....would the procedure for most cars be the same, for example a 2006 honda pilot?
same process for a 98 Accord v6?
U d man tony tone..thanks
Thank you!!!
thanks man
A little dab'll do ya. Reminds me of the brylcream ads.

Great Video! Now can you please do a video on changing the 2 belts on a 98 Honda accord. :-)
perfect video dude. hugs
More vids DUDE!!
TDT....Let me know if one of your neighbors ever decide to sell their house man,I'm moving in.
My caliper bolt won't budge, it's at the point where the bolts are almost circular
thanks
Forgot to mention.
Just keep your old pads and the box in the garage. Use those as your core.
Why is it hard to compress the piston? I can't get it to budge.
I left this out of the video: You need to take the cap off the brake fluid reservoir before you compress the piston. With that off, it won't be so tough to compress. Sorry for omitting that.
Tool Dude Tony i can't compress the piston???so can u tell me in details how i m gonna do that???

Try cleaning the outside of the piston with brake cleaner (acetone). It takes quite a bit of force, so make sure to use a c-clamp. Something like a quick clamp might not be enough force.
Turned out it was the screw kind.

what about the back
Hey tony I was wondering if you could make a video on how to channel water. I don't need anything coming from my downspouts. that turbo mode though
Tutorial bit gassy at the beginning... but pretty good... :)
That would be cool. However, I don't have any trailer brakes to repair. Sorry. :(
I think you have the wrong slider pin in the bottom
You forgot where to property place the jack
If your caliper piston has a hard time going back in, it may be very possible it is seized.
why would you not clean the brake hardware or replace it for that matter it's like 7 Bucks thumbs down
Great video!! You make it easy to understand............Thanks
