  • This may be the most important leather tool I own. There are just not many tools that can do as much as an arbor press. It can help you with so many different tasks in the leather shop. I have been really pleased with the Vevor 3 ton ratcheting arbor press. It took some work to make it just how I wanted it, but has quickly become an essential tool for my sheat building process…and it looks really good in the shop too.

    Thanks for taking the time to put your video together. I purchased the Vevor leather clicker, then returned it after seeing your video and ordered the 3 ton arbor press. Good adjustments to the tool. I thought your video was perfect length, and I'm grateful for you taking the time to film and share. 🙂

    I like the thumbscrew idea. I suspected you might need something like that for repetative operations. I might be inclined to drill receiver holes in the shaft aligned with the teeth. That way you get a positive lock from the screw without needing excessive pressure. I would be worried about cracking the casting. All and all, nicely done. Cheers.

    Great workshop, and impressive machine! Looks very well built. I have a much smaller 1” ram arbor press that works ok for rivets, etc. but doesn’t handle anything much larger. Great mods to your press. The rough castings are pretty common and don’t bother me, but I like all your other improvements a lot. I have a similar thumb screw attachment on my drill press, great idea to attach it here. Thanks for sharing! 👍
    P.S. I spent so much time trying to find a decent magnetic work light, so appreciate that link the most! Lots of junky ones out there…

    Thanks for the advice. I checked a few German brands for price but they are quite expensive for small atelier use at home, the cheapest one was 100 €. I'm not sure about the quality of Vevor, but for 73 € and the fact that extra tools can be attached to the end of the press is an advantage. I hope it won't disappoint. Greetings from Berlin.

    I did the same thing with a 3 ton Vevor (mines the blue non ratcheting one) However I also did two other mods that I think are worthwhile #1 I mounted a heavy duty 1/2” drill chuck to the bottom of the shaft to make it easier to quickly swap out tools, stamps and different sizes of press plates #2 I drilled and tapped the top of the shaft for a 1/2” spring retainer bolt then bought a heavy compression spring that would fit over the shaft so when you let loose of the handle the spring pulls the shaft back up into position for your next die cut

      I have the same one as you. I want to cut 14 ounce vegtan. The handle at 20 inches long doesn’t give enough torque for this. Want to use a longer handle for more torque. How long a handle do you think I could use without damaging the machine?

    Bro, you could add a spring return, just by adding a spring from the bolt at end of arbor ram to top frame, youll never use that wheel again

    How can i make my arbor press put equal pressure on a 7 inch stamp?

    • @wyomingwright
      @wyomingwright  25 дней назад

      I haven’t tried but I’d start with an additional 8” metal plate on top of the die or stamp

    Great video, I’m a new owner of this press and have made almost all the mods. One question, what are dimensions of the steel plate you purchased? It looks perfect and I’d like to get the same. Thank you.

      I believe it is 8”x8”. It is the perfect size. I left a link in the description for you.

    I just unboxed my press, and it looks like the ratchet gear was installed upside down, so that the gears face downward instead of upward. Any idea how to get the ratchet gear off so I can fix that? I tried to take off the lock collar by removing the small nut that was inside the collar ring, but that did not loosen it. Feels like the lock collar is welded to the entire rotary system of the press. I have no idea how to get to the ratchet gear and am not very tool savvy 😅
    Regardless, thanks for the awesome tips and tricks for the arbor press. Will definitely be implementing that thumb screw mod when I get everything up and running!

      That’s weird. My collar ring came right off when I loosened the screw. Maybe tap it with a rubber mallet and see if that breaks it loose. Sometimes that oil they coat everything with dries out and sticks parts together.

    I have the 1 ton. The ram wiggles forward and backward about 1/4”. My snaps and rivets aren’t installing correctly because it’s coming down at an angle and/or shifting has it comes downward. Any idea how to fix this? I tightened all four bolts.

    • @wyomingwright
      @wyomingwright  5 месяцев назад

      I've heard of some folks installing a small piece of HDPE plastic as a spacer between the bolts and the ram to put more even pressure on the ram but still allow it to slide. I have not had this issue with mine. 1/4" is a lot. I do have some very slight wiggling but the tolerances are pretty good on mine.

    I have order a 4 inch diameter circle die from Texas leather die. I want to cut 8 ounce vegtan for coasters. Do you think the 3 ton press will work?

    • @wyomingwright
      @wyomingwright  5 месяцев назад +1

      Yes but you would want to get some kind of plate to put under the ram and on top of the die so that you could distribute the pressure across your die.

    • @larrycumba2741
      @larrycumba2741 5 месяцев назад

      @@wyomingwright Thank you for your quick response. Will take two weeks for delivery of the die. I tried a hammer type die from Buckle Guy. Even with a 48 ounce hammer the die would only go half way through the leather. Really gave it a good pounding too.
