  • A very special comic presentation video focusing on the importance and understanding of various comic supply sleeves and toploaders, and learning what sleeves fit into each other so you can combo them for maximum protection.
    Special shoutouts to MERCENAUT and TreacherousJaywalker for their informative videos!
    MERCENAUT's video on Mylar and Toploaders:

    ONE BIG EDIT IN VIDEO ADDED IN WITH ANNOTATIONS:
    NO, Mylites2 for Silver / Golden Age will NOT fit into their respective archives. Big typo on my part. Sorry :(

    Yeah, I'm very proud of this video and it was my goal to help those out who are trying to decide on sleeves, archives, and top loaders, since I had to learn by trial and error.

    This is a great protective products comparison video! That chart is really useful. I recommend people just pause the image for quick reference. It's also neat seeing the 2-mil Mylar inside the Archival Mylar. That's probably the sharpest and smartest Mylar solution I've seen yet. One trick with that is: if you're using 2 mil Mylar with 4 Mil archival, you can pack the comic in raw (without backing board) enabling easy viewing of both the front and back of the book. Thanks for the shout-out!

  • @thebig93
    @thebig93 6 лет назад +9

    Just to clarify the thickness of the various items. They are measured in "mil" and not "millimeters." One mil is .001 inch (one thousandth). So a 2 mil sleeve is .002 inches thick and a 4 mil sleeve is .004 inches thick. If a sleeve was actually 4 millimeters, it would be a over 1/8" thick (appx .158 inches). It is somewhat confusing and an easy mistake to make.

      Thebig93 I'm glad you mentioned that because it definitely can be confusing for nebies. Hell, when I first bought comic protectors (after the purchase) I thought about exactly what ya said!!!

    absolutely invaluable video. thank you so much! Just to double check
    Basically 70s and up to modern stuff should fit just fine in the Gerber
    Mylites 2Mil 7 1/4 x 10 1/2 and that will combine flawlessly with the BCW Golden Age Top Loader.
    Finally, how important do you think that microchamber paper is, especially regarding more modern comics.

    One guy fitted his comics into his top loaders with the Mylar bag but didn't use a backing board, I don't know if the toploaders were BCW but try experimenting without a backing board and see, as the toploader that the guy used was sturdy and there was no need for a backing board

  • @Vulcanman86
    @Vulcanman86  10 лет назад +1

    Thank you, and yeah I need to start using micro chamber paper - thought I could get by without it, but I see now it's very important for those older books.

    Also keep your eye out for CGC sized boxes. (Big CGC logo on them, made by E. Gerber.) They're wide enough and tall enough to fit your CGC slabbed books and archives.

    Thanks for watching, and yeah, adding 2 mil Mylar with 4 mil Archives is a great idea for those who would like to save money and view the backs of their comics, since that method is pretty sturdy in itself!

    Mylites 1mil are better for thicker comic books like say action comics 1000. Makes it fit easier and the 4mil is too brittle

    E.Gerber now offers the Mylites 4 (wich seems to be the Milites2 in 4mm thickness) will you include these in your spreadsheet and also share it? It would be awesome to have it as a little reference and could be easy edited to also include Backing Boards and micro chamber paper.

    So I recently completed my collection of NM Neil Gaiman's Sandman and want to bag and board it properly, preferably in Mylar and with high quality boards. However there appears to be a wide supply shortage right now. I can get Mylites and full back boards but only in Golden Age size. Are there any disadvantages I should be aware of if I were to try storing modern age comics in Golden or Silver Age bags/boards as long as the backers match the bag size? Will the larger size make a difference discrepancy put my comics at risk in any way, even if the boards match the bags and are the stiffer full backs?

    Standard mylite 2 Wont fit either. Use current size mylite 2 bags with top loaders. Standard ml2 use to bag silver books. Silver bags arent necessary.

    I'm relatively new to collecting, bare with me?! What exactly is the best set up for current comics (say walking dead). What size mylar bag (that will fit top loader) and what size top loader? Also, is a back board necessary for a comic that's placed in a bag inside of a loader? And finally what size backing board? Btw I'm looking for longevity, so what are the brands that are the best? I currently have my comics in poly bags with acid free boards, inside a acid free box. Which I'm sure is ok for the time being, but I'd like the ultimate protection and to set some up on my walls, as I've seen ppl do with top loaders. ANY HELP IS MUCH APPRECIATED!

      with top loaders it's a bit redundant and blocks the back cover defeating one of the common uses of toploaders which is for displaying the comic

  • @broughtback2life
    @broughtback2life 9 лет назад

    Does it have to be a full-back in the mylite 2 for it to fit snug in the toploader or can I just use a regular backing board to fit snug in a toploader?

    • @Vulcanman86
      @Vulcanman86  9 лет назад

      You can use regular backing boards in the mylite to fit into the toploaders; however, it will be wobbly and a little loose. But if you want you could double the comics you put into it, front and back each in their own mylite and backing boards of course. This way you can make more use out of your toploaders, just depends on the books thickness.

    • @broughtback2life
      @broughtback2life 9 лет назад

      Vulcanman86 Oh okay, do you think a bcw sliver age board would work just as well as a full back standard? I looked it up and they both the same dimension.

    • @Vulcanman86
