I just started building my collection. Thank you for this breakdown bro 🙏
That was, if anything, more thorough than i needed. Thanks for being clear about what to expect as far as quality. I started collecting The Maxx quite a while ago. Made the move to mylar and full-back boards. I also found the fit tight next time ill step it up
Thanks for the video! Exactly what I* needed. Very detailed, well done
Thanks, Tyler!
I like the BCW thick bags with the regular boards.
Killer vid bro! I’m currently moving and taking a lot of long boxes out of the storage. Your vid will come very handy when purchasing bags and boards. I’ve always leaned towards the myltes 2 bags. Cheers bud! JC/Miami
Glad it was helpful!
👍Great Content, love the way you broke it all down Brother, thank you. Gonna need to use those discounts now brother, absolutely Awesome Chris, Thank you. Need to take inventory on what I have and what I need. And this will absolutely make things way easier Brother. As Always Thank You For Keeping it Positive. , thank you for the Content and for sharing the Knowledge. ✌️
Thanks, SImon!
Super helpful bro! Thank you for the video 🤘🏻
Thanks for watching!
What's ur feeling on Big Fudge bags. I like em they feel thicker and sturdier
I just wanna say thank you for the discount code. I've used it on all my orders for a while now and with BCW's free shipping after $200, it's like you're getting a few things for free. Especially when those SIKTC short boxes came out.
I use the Silver bags and boards myself for my collection. I just like that extra protection on the sides, plus doubling up makes it more firm and sturdy, just wished they made full backs to give it a more solid feel.
Yeah I love the solid feel of the full backs, but unfortunatley, these new full backs don't have that feel anymore. It might still be cheaper to just double up the BCW boards.
Thanks for the tip. 😀👍
For sure!
awesome and informative video bro!!!👍👍
Thank you!
Peace, Chris! You're welcome! This info is on point. Because of your original bag & board video I was getting custom cut 7 1/8" Full-backs for my Standard Mylites 2. I noticed soon after that the FB's were JUUUUUST a little too tight for the mylars. Some would bend in the bag. Some of the bags even split because of it and had to be discarded. That's not a good look. I readjusted to the 7" FB's after that.
Russ! Yeah same was happening to me. Some bags just came out the manufacturing process too tight. I actually did a 7 1/16"inch that worked pretty perfect, but since I think you told me they aren't doing customs now, the 7 inch is just fine.
@@JernosComicsPopCulture if I get the mylar 7" inch. Should I go with the 6 & 7/8" 56 point thick boards?
Or Would that be to tight now and just go for the 6 & 3/4" 56 point thick?
@@nickflores2953 Yeah the rules change for the thicker boards. I would go with 6 3/4 for the 56 point.
very helpful thanks
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for letting us know about the Full Back I like using them but would prefer both sides to be white and thicker. My Volume 1 Captain America run is in eGerber Silver/Gold Mylites 2 and Full backs, Later Volumes I switch to Standard Mylites 2 and Full backs. Thanks Again Great Info.
I hear you, Brian. This is really a bad move because these new full backs aren't much thicker than the half backs.
I mainly collect modern. Both normal size and thicker modern. I like mine fairly tight but with some room on the side so that they can’t get damaged.
I can’t decide what’s better. The thick regular or the silver age. I don’t want tons on the side. But I currently have them quite tight and I’m getting some spine ticks.!
I loove the thick regular (7 inch width because you can fit standard moderns as well as the oversized moderns (as long as they aren't like the Wal-Mart Giants or over 100 page plus square bound thick). So you don't get as much of that loose feel you get with silver, and you get a pinch of room on the side still. Keep in mind, board size will impact tightness as well. So you have to pay attention to what boards you are using. If you're using say, full backs or 56pt boards with the thick modern bags, that might be chocking a thicker modern book.
@@JernosComicsPopCulture never knew there was so many options when I first started collecting haha. I think currently I have modern for both and there’s no room on the edges. So maybe for now I will buy the thick regular with the recommended boards and next month also get some silver for my thicker ones !
@@owenwootton5541 I keep all sizes on hand at all times! It does get confusing sometimes sstill.

Thanks!
Thank you, Glenn!
Good stuff
Watch the video again, got it this time, going to use mylites 2 7 10 1/2 with the regular boards from BCW for my Spawn ,Turtles and Spider-Man collection, thanks for this video… Great job
Awesome, thanks for watching!
As someone new to the hobby what size bag and boards would I need for a 1980’s FF run? Great video by the way 👍🏻
What size would I get for a DC Black Label Comic? The Bat-Man: First Knight specifically..
As a guy who also buys and sells cards I'm not a fan of most ultra pro products. They tend to be overpriced and they as you said wrinkly or snap or break easy if they are the stiff protectors. They are also really tight and getting books or cards in or out of them can easily damage the item you're trying to protect.
Dude thank you! So frustrating to get the wrong board with the wrong bag. the 1/8" rule is the ticket.
Nice presentation
Thank you!
I am wearing the same shirt rn
Awesome video! Probably going BCW because mylar is expensive.; at least for now. 👍
Thanks for watching! If you use order with BCW on their website, use the code JERNOS to get 10% off.
@@JernosComicsPopCulture sure will!! Ty Chris!
Thx Chris I'd really like to out my PC in full back mylars
@JernosComicsPopCulture - I have some Mirage TMNT's that are 6.75" wide. What combo bag and board size would you suggest for those so that there is a bit of a buffer around it?
Great video. If you can sometime please put a link to the Josh Graves (?) video on the new thickness of Gerber Fullbacks. I'd like to see more on this. I for one am a bit skeptical on the brown side being as acid free as the coated white side. Thank you.
That was a little video clip that he posted on his instagram account actually .
Hi, just wondering if I got the 7" mylites2 bags would the 6-3/4" full back boards work for standard current comics? I ask because sadly in Australia my LSC stores only have a limited selection of bags and boards and I would like to use mylar bags for some of my comic series.
Have you ever used Comic Proline bags? they give that Mylar look for poly prices. Ultra clear
BCW also makes a thick silver 7 an 1/4 inch for those giant size books
I did a video talking up Comic Pro Line as a cheaper alternative to Mylar... but then I retracted my statement, as over half of my 100 pack of bags split completely down the center.
Recently had some MAJOR customer service issues with them and will never use them again. The product is good and was my preference up until this issue, but my CS issues are unforgivable. I discovered comic clear is now offering OPP bags so I ordered a batch to see how they stack up.
Bcw are the best. 😀👍
Hey, thanks for the videos… could you use a 7” fullback with a 7 1/8” bag? Specifically for thinner books?
I've tried this and they can split the bag, especially mylars. I would try a 6 7/8 fullback to see if that is too your liking first.
Great vid. I think it was an older vid of yours where you mentioned buying in bulk from E. Gerber which I did and saved quite a bit. It was a 3-4 month turn around time at that time and might be longer now. But, glad I got those older versions of the Full Backs and not these new ones. Looks like the new ones are coated boards like illustration board where the previous were solid pulp.
I've been putting 2 comics in a single bag with a board in between the two. I was planning on upgrading to Mylars and was wondering which bag and board sizes would work best? I only have early Silver Age to late Bronze Age comics. Trying to figure out a way to put two of them in a Mylite 2 but not sure if that will work or which board would fit. Any suggestions?
All BCW silver age mylar, with BCW silver age boards, sealed with painter's tape. All stored in short BCW (plastic) comic bins, labeled with identification cards. About 140 books per box...so many boxes...
@JernosComicsPopCulture Have you ever tried experimenting with Mylites+ (Current Comic Size) or Mylites2 (Current Comic Size) w/ BCW Current Size Boards? If so is it a good good combination and would you recommend it? Or is it better to use the current comic book size Halfbacks and Fullbacks?
Is there a good one size fits all combo bag and boards almost like universal fit my collection is modern bronze maybe a few silver who knows but I was guessing current thick bags with regular boards or current boards or silver age bags with silver age boards or regular size boards. Please end the headache and let me know what one size fits all if you had to choose thank you so much.
I buy indie comics and lately they have been using thicker pages plus it's like 60- 100 page books. What size you choose?
@JernosComicsPopCulture Hi. In the description it says coated on one side for bcw boards.. i like to put two comics in one bag/board so that they stay balanced in storage (not all the spines on one side). Do you know a board that is acid free on both sides? thanks for your great video and any further advice!
I used to recommend E Gerber's Full backs, but they have taken down the quality of those boards. They are still 100% acid free, but they are much thinner and have brown on one side, and they raised the price.
@JernosComicPopCulture What would be the best mylar bag and board combo for today's comics? For example like The Walking Dead Deluxe from Image or the X-Men run by Jonathan Hickman from Marvel? Would Current or Standarnd be best? And as for board Halfback or Fullback? Im looking for appeal, sturdiness and longevity. Im storying my single issue comic books in the black hard plastic bcw long comic bins.
To me an lcs is local coin shop. To me that was funny.
Hey how you doing
Watch the video on comic sleeves and boards, will the mylites 2 7 10 1/2 and the regular 6 7/8 boards be perfect for my spawn and Tmnt collection ?
Or the 6 3/4 boards with Mylites 2
You don't know how much I will be utilizing this information, Chris. Quick question, and if I sound stupid, just backhand me. I've never used those clear backing boards, so I honestly don't know what the width/thickness is on those. Are they labeled the same as far as modern/current/etc.? Thanks for all the work you do for the community, brother! ✌️
Great questions! I know they have similar labels, but I am not 100% on the specifics off the top of my head. As for thickness, they seem to be about as thick as a full back, but of course they have a different "bend-ability" to them.
@@JernosComicsPopCulture thanks much, brother.
Hi Chris, I always figured using a silver age bag with a current/modern board for almost all books. Whaddya think?
I don't like it because there is too much wiggle room for one. Also, early bronze age and silver age books are wider than current boards, and using one could damage and leave stress imprints onto the books.
Gotcha. I'll use a wider board then. Thanks.
Bros informative 👍
Thanks for the information! I have a question about Mylar bags and boards. Say I’m using a 7 inch Mylar bag for my current issues, is it really too tight for a 6 7/8 full back? Or can you make it work? The problem is I like the look of a 1/8” on each side. And if I move down to a 6 3/4 fullback board it won’t look as appealing. I guess protection over looks at this point, but I had to ask! Thanks much Chris!
The full backs might be too thick at 6 7/8, so i would try to cut a custom cut 1/16 inch smaller. So a 6 13/16 inch cut.
@@JernosComicsPopCulture got it. I do have a straight edge cutter to cut the full backs. If I were to keep it at 6 7/8 what would be the disadvantage?
I just swapped all 600+ of my tmnt books (all mirage era)to mylite 2s 71/4 with the pro line 7 1/8 boards (the 28s) ..I had all of them in the same bags but with the 7" board ..I like how they look with the 7 1/8 board but I'm worried there to tight...maybe I'm being paranoid cause it's different
Comic Clear in the US, Comic Pro Line in Canada. Both companies use higher quality bags and boards than BCW.
Comic pro lines concurrently split. Comic clear are solid. But they are a different product than bcw poly bags, just like mylar. It's improper context to simply state bcw is lesser quality.
@@JernosComicsPopCulture Comic Pro Line resolved the issue months ago. Bad batch.
Placed a bulk order with egerber 2 weeks ago for full backs. Wasn't aware of the change. Damn, super upset...
Ughhh dang. Yeah they are definitely not the same.
We're those bcw stuff you used for the asm ok your last what not sale
Some of those were BCW, some were Ultra Pro.
Are your posters in BCW 11x17 TOPLOADERS on your back wall?!?
They are actually frames that I get from Michael's. Pretty affordable. They come in packs of two.
What would you suggest for wall books at a comic con? I dont want to buy 100 mylars…but would like something a little better than normal bags.
I would still suggest mylar. If you're a dealer selling wall books, you need to spend the money to do it right. There's another plus to mylar. They make your books pop and it will actually attract more buyers.
Is it bad to have two comics in one bag? Comic-board-comic? To save space and to have each comic spines being opposite to prevent damage while storing them?
Aa long as there is a little breathing room, they should be fine, and of course, make sure the room itself isn't extremely humid.
"Keep in mind width is the most important thing...." Thats what she said!!!!!!
Use regular/silver for everything.
Great video!
Thank you!
I just got my 7 inch bags and 6 7/8 inch boards in yesterday. They are both BCW, but I'm literally having to force books into them. The bags are the resealable type, maybe that's the issue? Even books from the 2000s I have to knock the bag on a flat surface like 5-10 times to get the book in. Any ideas on what the problem is? Thanks
@@j-stilt9746 There should be absolutely no problem, unless your putting oversized books in them. Are they standard BCW boards with the one-sided buffer? I use those all day long with my BCW bags, regular and resealable. First thing I would do is of course double check to make sure the sizes are right. And if they are, if you order multiple packs of bags or boards, see if the other packs do the same thing. Maybe somehow, you got a back of something that wasn't cut right or manufactured right, but in my years of using BCW, I've never had that problem.
@@JernosComicsPopCulture Thanks a lot for the quick replies, that is rare on YT. Shows how much you care. I'd love to be able to send you a vid to show you exactly what I'm dealing with. Is that possible?
@@j-stilt9746 For sure. If you're on instagram, DM me at @jernos_comics or email me at captainjernocomics@gmail.com
Hi Jerno.
Was wondering you selling your collection, are you saying you stepping out of comic collecting and speculating, and channel close down?
I'm only thinning down the collection. I will never give up comics and this channel will be going strong.
What size bags can I use for protecting my Marvel Epic Collections?
That's a great question! From my knowledge, not all Epic Collections are the same thickness, so that is going to factor in. If they aren't too thick, golden age bags could work, especially if they were poly bags, because they are more loose fitting.
Coming back after a long 20+ years hiatus, I just bought BCW bag / board combo. I noticed the board has a glossy side and paper texture on the other side. Which side does the comic rest on?
Glossy side has the acid buffy, so you would face that side against the back of the comic.
@@JernosComicsPopCulture so glossy against the back of comic it is. Thanks 🙏🏻 👍🏻💪🏻
Jerno, you are a very experienced collector. What’s the tallest backboards that exist?
Thanks! According to my knowledge, all backing boards are made with the same height, no matter the brand or the width.
Where you get that Spidey shirt?
From a skate shop in Santa Cruz.
I bought the Mylar and backing board combo you recommended for modern comics (7 inch 2 mil mylar and 6 7/ 8 half back), but it's a tight fit on my brand new comics. Like, i have to really push them down in the bag. How tight is too tight?
Hi Michael. That doesn’t seem right. Keep in mind, I don’t use half backs, I use standard bcw boards, as well as some other brands with the standard one sided gloss. And I’ve never had a problem whatsoever.
But half backs are - or were - extremely thin, so I don’t think thickness would be a problem.
Where did you buy the Mylar from and are the half backs egerber? The only thing I can think of is if you got a batch of boards that were cut slightly off, or you got a batch of Mylar that were pulled too tight. I would get a tape measure and measure the boards exactly down to 1/16th of an inch.
I’ve used thousands of 7 inch Mylar with 6 7/8 inch boards over the years with no problem.
@JernosComicsPopCulture I got the BCW brand bags and boards. I thought maybe it was a thick comic but I have tried multiple comics from new to 90's and they are really tight. The bag and board are not "bowed" but the comic is slightly puckered in there.
@@misfitmike13 So technically the boards are the standard BCW boards? This is definitely a red flag that I have never experienced before. Definitely do some measuring, and I would reach out to BCW. They are very good at working with customers. Please email me if there is anything else I might be able to do to help: captainjernocomics@gmail.com
@JernosComicsPopCulture Yes, they are the standard BCW boards (Regular, 6 7/8 x 10 1/2). I will measure them for sure. Mind if I send some pictures to your email clarifying what is happening?
Couldn’t get over the size of the hat. Had to shut it off. 😂
Can't get over the tiny size of your brain... if you want to call it one. God bless you.
Super confused. I just want to give my current comics a nice boarder to my CURRENT comic w/ my bag and boards
BCW Thick bags (that's a 7 inch bag) with boards that are 6 7/8 inch wide. That will give you a nice snug fit with a nice white boarder on each side.
Best size for bag and board for a modern marvel comic with 56 pages?
BCW Current Thick Bag, with a "regular" 6 7/8 inch board.
@@JernosComicsPopCulture you’re the man! Thanks
@@ethancampbell425 Fure sure!
Question. I have 1980s comics i bought and collected as a teenager from money earned throwing newspapers. I didn't know how to store properly in the beginning and later didn't want to spend the money. So i used newspaper rain bags etc to protect.
Does one ever clean their comics? Animals insects etc could have gotten in. I'm about to go through and put bcw boards and bags on them. Also I'll need short or long boxes. I've used uhaul totes etc.... i know. Bad and shame on me.
So. Boards say coated on one side. Coated goes against the comic, I'm assuming? I have 6 3/4" boards with 6 7/8" bags. Just need to order boxes.
Again. Need to know if i need to clean wipe down books for any reasons. They may or may not be present. Just watched a bunch of RUclips s to catch up. My wife actually bought the boards and bags after research, so I had to do my own as well.
First, if you're buying more supplies, especially if your using bcwsupplies.com, make sure to use the code JERNOS to get 10% off.
There's no telling what type of damage or dirt or residue might be present on your comics from how they were stored. My best, most simple advice, would to just have a couple of cotton balls on hand. You can use these to gently rub against the front and back of the comics. You'll be able to see dirt and residue on the cotton ball. There are some really intense cleaning methods that you can do with comics, but you need to be professionally educated to these techniques, plus, if the comics aren't worth hundreds or thousands of dollars, it would probably just be a waste of your time.
Hope this helps!
