      why not Microchamber paper anymore???????

    • @nunyabizwacks6711
      @nunyabizwacks6711 4 года назад +1

      I would like to know the same, but i do know one reason some people dont use the microchamber paper is because supposedly where it absorbs all the acid and crap in your book, it just builds up in that paper til it cant hold anymore (imagine a sponge full of water) and then in turn it ends up releasing all that stuff at once at a faster rate than normal into the book, causing more damage in less time than what would have normally happened. Personally i think the best thing you can do for your comics is have them in a good environment and stored in boxes that have lids on top. This will do more than spending massive money on mylars and microchamber paper and all that. I dont care how much mylar and crap u have on them, if you dont have them in a favorable environment/climate, thats gonna do the damage either way. In my opinion, regular poly bags of the max thickness (3mm i think) and double boarding on your more valuable issues will do just fine and u can change them down the road. If your comics are stored in a good environment with lids on them, (even covering up handle holes helps) you wont have to change them near as quick as people say.

    This dude is the main reason I'm changing out my entire collection of what I keep in archival type materials. I'll never go back to bags and boards again for issues I wanna keep near mint and those I value. Kudos, homie.

    Great video, I've been using this exact same procedure with the same products for a while now, it took me forever to find the right combination...wish I'd seen your video sooner! My only departure from your process is that I use standard size boards inside the mylites with the books, to make loading/unloading them from the top loaders a bit safer. It does block seeing the back of the book, but for me safety and protection are everything.

Lastly is microchamber paper really necessary since they are already in mylars and the toploaders? Thanks again for the video though. I don't know why I like seeing comic books changing to new mylars bags, seems therapeutic to me lol.

    I've put a lot of my Silver Age in the toploaders. The Silver Surfers are nearly impossible due to their size, however. I also have them boarded when I top load them. I've not used micro chamber paper before though. That seems like a great idea as my X-men collection needs to be preserved (only missing 1-3).

    Okay, then the My-Lites 2 full and half bags are good for Bronze age comics that are wider, especially the 68 page giant size comics than it would for current size comics that are a bit smaller? Also too can either the My-Lites 2 full and half bags can fit any Silver age comics? As for top loaders i read that only current and Silver age comics will fit well than it would for Bronze age comics is that true? Thanks for the information.

    You are putting them in with tape and plastic?
    Won't the tape or plastic damage the book from the inside?
    Specially if you add more comics tightly inside or on top.
    Also are those Comic Top loader Holder 6x9?
    The size of a comic book not the size of a card board?

    • @firesurfer
      @firesurfer 7 лет назад +2

      The main reason for archival tape is so that the glue doesn't dry out and fall off while in storage. When putting comics in bags, put the spine in first, otherwise, you may catch the front edge. If using toploaders, put the flap on the bottom.

    But what boxes you use to hold them. Silver age top loaders, they seem wider for regular boxes
    What i do is place my standard books in standard 2 mil mylar bags with a
    full back board, them stick it into a toploader.
    What boxes do i buy to house them

      if you're using silver age/golden age top loaders then you'll have two choices, magazine size short/long boxes(used to store magazines) or graded comics short/long boxes. they're both the same width but different in height because obviously one is for graded comics. Hope this help. I'm currently using golden age top loaders and is using graded comics short boxes to store em.

    MERCENAUT Great video and I like your idea.. I just tried this combo with about 50 books, with just the mylar bags and toploaders (no board) ..but when storing my books I'm getting a little worried because of how they stack.. the toploaders are rigid only on the 3 edges which causes the book to curve.. I tried adding some backing boards to make things more sturdier but theres still some waviness. I dont know if maybe I ordered 3 bad batches in a row (from Amazon/BCW brand) or what but I'm thinking of maybe switching to Mylite 4s and full backs. I'm wondering how your books are holding up over time.. any waviness? Thanks.

    • @jetset808
      @jetset808 9 лет назад

      I'm kinda in the same boat.. i think the answer is going to be getting a box just made for top loaders they they can stand upright

    • @itsericb
      @itsericb 9 лет назад

      The toploaders will fit in a short box as long as you dont stack the boxes on top of each other..the tops of the loaders are the slightest bit taller then the box. I've been using CGC boxes for mine which are kind of big width wise but it gives you clearance on top.
      From being stored snug in the box they've somewhat straightend out over time but I still plan on dropping in a fullback or some standard boards between the mylar and loader just to give it some more rigidness.

    Thanks! Golden age TL wont do the trick; the mylars will just slide around in them and the comics in the golden age bags will slide around as well. For me, the current sized bags in the standard size top loaders are perfect. & if a Book wont fit in the current bag- even without a board, then I just wont put that book in there and go for a bag that will fit along with a Full-Back backing board. And the Golden age TL wont fit in the regular long box.

    air???? that's the problem with plastic sleeves (mylar) can hold AIR and air is not good for paper preservation, air can create humidity and humidity can cause mold.
