I’m a mobile mechanic and I’ve used that impact for way more then I should if broke strut bolts and brake caliper bolts loose and I live in the rust belt I’m hammered the hell out of it and it still works great
Good feedback!
My Milwaukee tools get really hot too under heavy use. It’s good to see harbor freight having a step up from their “single use tool” stigma. At least that how I thought of their power tools lol.
Agreed. This generation of tools will change how they are perceived.
Blue Milwakee for the win
I saw a few “ tool gets too warm/hot” complaints for milwaukees gen 4. Would love to see you stress that. Great vid as usual. Herc impact is a buy for me.
I’ll see what we can do. Might have to pace a video like that out a little bit.
@@TinkerWithTools cool 😬
@@BKD70 have my videos bashed on Hercules? I feel like I have shown them in a pretty neutral if not positive light.
if you made me drill that many holes i'd probably quit too...
It's good to see that protection kicks in when it does. I understand that people expect their cordless tools to be able to draw power unimpeded for an indefinite amount of time, but unless they want to their batteries to be twice as large, twice as complicated, and twice as heavy due to being housed in a chunk of aluminum (probably also with some kind of active cooling), that just isn't realistic. The heat (energy) has to go somewhere, no tool brand is cheating physics.
Well said!
As a first time owner of a Harbor Freight tool of any kind I was actually quite impressed with the fit and finish of the new impact driver. I haven’t used it yet but with all the videos I’ve watched I know I’ll be happy with it. It’s a backup for my M12 impact incase I need more power.
You are lucky you started with these. They haven’t always been this good.
Such a shame Hercules and Kobalt doesnt exist here, i would love to try them
Both are nice budget alternatives. I’ve never loved the ergonomics of kobalts older stuff but the newer stuff seems to be really nice.

I like that kind of test
Thanks
I purchased the sawzall and the impact driver I can personally say there beast! I built a entire back deck over the weekend, lag bolts and thick screws with zero stops no issues the sawzall today took on thick railroad ties with no breaks and it is still kicking!! Harbor freight is bringing there A game however cannot speak on the drill lol but I do not regret my purchases. I have the money to buy the more expensive brands I just chose to give these a try good quality an performance!
Great info. Thanks for sharing!
Nice test but if I’m using my tools to put food on the table for me it’s Teal. I still have Makita “brushed” tools I’ve had for all of my career and they still work flawlessly. I do have many color tools but in my opinion the smoothness, ergonomics, precision and longevity of Makita sold me. On a different note, I noticed you had a Klein micro ratchet on the table in front of you. Can you please do a review on that micro ratchet. I bought one last week to try and absolutely fell in love with it, so much so that I purchased 3 more, one for the house and each vehicle, Klein hit a home run with this tool. Thanks for all you do and I’ll be looking forward to your next video review, thanks
There is a video coming soon for micro ratchets. Hopefully next week. I’m trying to do more hand tools as well.
@@TinkerWithTools Awsome, thanks
It depends what kind of work you do. Modern brushless tools can pay for themselves fairly quickly with time savings.
Honestly I think 7 minutes of continuous work time before overheating is pretty bad. I often drill many holes in half inch stainless steel, and that takes a lot longer than 7 minutes.
What is your tool of choice for that task.
@@TinkerWithTools Metabo or Makita
I've pushed a 5ah battery to desolder one of the leads in the pack with the sawzall. Easy fix just soldered the lead back on, I suspect an initial weak solder joint from the factory.
The 6 1/2 circ saw causes a lot of overheating on my 5ah batteries, I usually set them in front of a fan to cool off if there's one available at the jobsite.
Quick note: my old hercules brushed impact works with the 2.5ah batteries until they are drained but the new brushless impact won't work on them when they get to two bars, even with full bars under load the lights will dim like when a you're bumping the subs in car without a capacitor. The new impact is power hungry.
Thanks for providing some in depth insight. I appreciate it. I think the new tools are decent but like the solder joint mention I wonder about some of the quality control. The big benefit is that now we have a warranty to back that.
@@TinkerWithTools I own 11 hercules batteries and only that single 1 failed, but it was honestly my fault I smelled smoke but I kept pushing until I saw smoke. I just needed to get the job done. The other batteries would overheat and shut off before they cooked themselves.
As a plumber I could do a lot of holes especially on new construction and much bigger holes so I’m guessing that it won’t last
What size of holes are you typically running and what’s your tool of choice. I don’t doubt there are people out there that could push these to the limits but I don’t know that that person is shopping at harbor freight as much. At least not currently.
@@TinkerWithTools I used Milwaukee gen 3 hammer drill/driver , if I’m running water lines 1 1/2 spade bit to 1” but if I’m doing drainage and venting anywhere for 2 1/8 to 3 1/2 hole saw typically but could be larger at times yet I will use the Milwaukee hole hog as well
The reality is that if you are putting in fasteners that fast, you are probably doing crappy work. Only a moron takes that little care. These tools are designed to survive your average moron, but not reckless clowns.
With the amount of holes you’ll be making either doing a repipe or new construction, I don’t think the tool would heat up .
My milwaukee gen 4 yes they became hot or warm under heavy use but they don't stop working for that reason, and they cooled fast as well
Good input
Hate Philips bits?
Try a heavy commercial aircraft which has thousands of them holding body panels on!
I vote for Torx or Robertson screws.
That would be the death of me. Torx is what I have gone with personally but I have no problem with Robertson for some things either.
I have a impact brushless and it's acting similar all I do is blowout around the trigger and vents above the trigger and don't have any issues for about a week ish
Great video
Thanks
I have the drill and m main problem is the chuck gets stock I change the drill 3 time for a new one and I just replaced the chuck my self
I haven't had any issues with mine but I appreciate you sharing. Even if it's easy to switch out a tool it's still inconvenient to have it break.
yes. i do find the impact a little hot. it actually retains heat when off. the electrolytic capacitor inside is being cooked for sure. also the grease is oozing out without any torture test. i have returned mine already. for even better price get kobalt. triple hammer is on sale now (99 with 2Ah batteries and a fast charger)
How does the new kobalt compare in power.
@@TinkerWithTools next gen is on par if not much better. and you can get the combo kit with (impact, drill/driver, 2Ah, and charger for 149 now). so it is cheaper than hercules. i got the xtr drill with Anti-Kickback!
This feels slightly inauthentic to me. Just a hunch.
No fair man. At the beginning you were wearing a 3.0 high output shirt, but during testing you wore a regular 2.0 shirt. Invalidates the tests. Just messing lol. Awesome tests sir. I won't be purchasing these tools considering I'm not in the line, but your videos are really well done and I enjoy watching them. It's important that these brands keep each other on their toes. Milwaukee got comfortable for a while and the subpar feedback on gen 4 proves that. Hopefully this competition forces them to step up their game.
The Hercules tools are a step up for sure and for a lot of people they are more than adequate (whether we want to admit it or not). But I agree that having a brand push the big names to do more is going to be good.
I’m very disappointed. Used it for about an hour in light rain and the next day I couldn’t get it to change speeds. Never had an issue with my usual dewalt in the rain for about 2 years. This is the brand new brushless Hercules btw
While it sucks to have it break... the warranty exchange is likely one of the easiest in all of the tool world so I would take advantage of it.
Had my DRILL DRIVER cut out during a test took the 4 amp Battery off slapped on the 8 AMP started to run again got it Farley hot but not in Unbearable
Nobody is going to be doing that in the real world, good tools for smart people
GOOD VIDEO

Post watch edit:
that graph is the perfect touch. It's almost like hard data in an easily digestible format is more understandable than marketing.
The symptoms of overload protection is a good sign indeed. protecting the battery, motor, and circuitry is something I'd expect from a Makita. I'm not sure if DeWalt does it to the same extent, but if harbor freight is, I think that's a win.
I’m trying to work on a few things to make them more scientific or at least give you more data. Thanks for commenting.
How do they work in wet weather?
Can’t say I have tried that. If I find out I’ll let you know.
if you havent yet try makita xps those phillips bits are actually good
Thanks for the suggestion.
The drill didn't stop the battery got to hot and shut down till it cools
I have a Hercules 1/2 driver. There is NO adaptor for it.
What adapter are you referring to?
Don’t think them or the new Milwaukee drill’s and impact driver’s will hold up under hard use daily. Get to warm heat and electronics don’t play well together. Several channels have spoken about Milwaukee tools getting hotter than anything else they have tested . They may last just as good as the gen 2 m12 and gen 3 m18 but I don’t see how.
I haven’t noticed my Gen 4 getting hotter than previously.
Well IF you're gonna use a impact for what it is intended to or meant to be then every impact driver brands will definitely last a long time but IF you're gonna use it for drilling large holes and driving large fasteners larger than timberloks then it will definitely fry and gets destroyed regardless of brands wether it's a expensive top notch brand or cheap ass brands. That's why everytime I purchase tools especially fastening and drilling tools I always buys em'in pairs, Impact Driver 1/4", Impact Wrench 3/8", 1/2" & 3/4" and Hammer Drill. I buy em in pairs. For cutting tools such as angle grinders and circular saws, Miter Saws I buy it corded, for cutting and demolition tool such as Recip saw it's either Cordless or corded. For Concrete Demolition it's either Cordless or corded Rotary Hammer Drill SDS, and either corded or Air pneumatic Jack Hammer Breaker. Always use the right tools for the right job!
Well said.
doesnt the hercules body look like the Milwaukee gen 4 impact 🙃
Yes. I always felt the Hercules brushed was modeled after the DEWALT brushed and this brushless model seems to be modeled after the Milwaukee.
i still don’t trust the longevity and the price difference isn’t that large compared to more trusted brands. especially the 12v lines
I think that it will take time to develop that trust and I think they will continue to improve the line, but when they do, I think it will come with price increases.
Well, the fact that they all come with 5 year warranties means that HF will be forced to make the design as reliable as they can, because they have to provide replacements.
We saw a quality tool do what it should…protect itself from moronic users. Thereby saving HF money, allowing lower prices…along with saving morons from themselves.
😂😂 dude you look like your a cartoon 😂😂,,in ff
