Team yellow reporting in. I recently picked up the latest HF Hercules 1/2" ultra torque for $190 with a free 5ah battery. It's been a great tool since I got it, and it buzzes off axle nuts without any hesitation. Their impact driver and drill motor have also been working great for me. They were $97 for each kit, coming with a 2ah battery and charger, plus a coupon for a free 2.5ah battery. In total I've spent under $400 and got 3 tools, 5 batteries, and 2 chargers. I use these tools in a heavy industrial construction setting, so I suspect their durability will test the warranty before it expires.
Same, I've been buying up the tools from them lately because the deal is too good. I also have Milwaukee M18 and M12 tools but I found it too hard to justify the difference in price anymore
@@dcxSpartan117Same here. I’ve got Milwaukee 18 and 12v but, the price has just gotten out of hand. Not sure they’re worth it anymore. We shall see, got my first Hercules the other day and darned if I’m not impressed on feel and fit out of the box. Wow
Thanks for posting your mini review, I was on this video debating buying a Hercules with three current deal. I needed it to bust some axle nuts and your review described exactly what I needed to hear to push me into buying. (Along with the data in this video). Thank you
I use hercules tools at work, working on heavy equipment and it has held up great. I took my 1st gen 1/2 inch in one day and traded it for the new one under the warranty. There was nothing wrong with my 1st gen, i just wanted to see how the new one worked. I got back to the shop and told my co-worker "lets see snap-on do this for you" haha. Use the warranty, even if there is nothing wrong with your impact, exchange it under warranty and just tell them it works but intermittent. You'll get a new one.
You mentioned the cost of the Hercules with the 5ah battery and charger, but currently when you purchase the 3/4 impact you get the 5ah battery for free! Instead of adding $79 to the price, that's more like subtracting $79 from the $199 price. I would say BUY THE HERCULES right now! That's a deal that can't be beat!!!!!
They don't typically count promotional deals because those can and do change, so it could radically shift the rankings every time a new sale started at HD or HF. Still, that does make an already quite attractive deal look even better right now...
@Wizkid490 yeah I get what you mean about the promotions, although HF makes a habit of having a regular price that's just for show. Nearly all of the hercules 20v cordless tools have been on the "$99 for a battery, charger, and a tool" deal for years now. So it's effectively the regular price.
To be clear the 1/2" version is like a mid torque and we havent tested it before. And $240-290 is A LOT for an amazon sourced tool kit. That said, its battery is unusually good and crosses over to Makita LXT. And it embarrasses any LXT impact currently, so that's pretty cool. They also have a 1 year warranty
Yeah, I'm sure longevity is suspect, but that's still a good price IMO. Thanks for the update with the half inch. I didn't realize that because the Milwaukee 1/2 inch is similar to the 3/4 in output.@@TorqueTestChannel
Damn. Ework brought the beans, but hell if harborfreight isnt coming out swinging for the fences lately. How shocking is that? 10yrs ago harborfreight powertools were largely the butt of many jokes, now they are competing and BEATING on the big guys.
Was really expecting that hercules to cross 900 with 5ah pack, yet it sounds like it was struggling at the end with 12ah so seems that this tools is maxed out at 900, but still hella impressive.
Meh, initial performance is only half the story. What matters to many people is how long it keeps working at the less demanding tasks they throw at it. In other words, only an idiot tries to max out their tools and then calls them crap when they fail. Testing/benchmarks are of course a different story, as it is still great to have that data but when talking about off-brand consumer grade, I still consider many of Harbor Freight's power tools to be sub-par even for their price point. If it costs 30% less but only lasts half as long, is that economy or wasteful? I see them as very rare occasion use tools.

This took it off as easily as unscrewing a ketchup bottle. Mine had a very tight fitting 3/4 anvil also, but I suppose that eliminates any torque losses because of a slight "wobble" from a looser connection.
I think out of all of those I would go with the hercules just because it has a 5yr warranty and I can walk into any store and get it replaced even though it is more than the amazon models

So far anything involving the need to cut metal it has worked good. I also picked up one of the new Hercules brushless drills a few months ago that was a return and it has a lot of power to it. I also finally got to use my 7-1/4" brushless circular saw and it's amazing how quiet it is. Especially when comparing it to our old corded 15 amp saws that want to blow out your ear drums.

The DCF900 works fine taking off truck/bus lug nuts without the 9.0 Flexvolt. We have 3 of them. We use 6.0XR, 5.0 PowerStack and 6.0 FlexVolt batteries. They all work great.
I picked up the Hercules with both batteries as having a quarter brick makes it a little easier to handle than the half brick and is probably a touch gentler on the tool. Having an arguably inexpensive 3/4 impact gun break or just plain delete threads the competition can't defeat is really damn satisfying. I have heard Harbor Freight now has an even spicier pack for the Hercules that I might look for later, but so far anything that doesn't come free with the larger brick end has needed heat, percussive persuasion, and a 6ft torque multiplier pipe as an alternative. While the hog ring is wholly aggressive, I have not had to fish out whatever it holds onto from anywhere yet; it has been a blessing in disguise. The gun, both batteries, and a single-dock charger (during a membership blue tag sale) cost me less than $250 in Fresno CA a few months ago. The thing is a chunky beast and I love it. 🤣
What do we care about RPMs instead of torque on a ratchet? I mean sure one can lead to the other but just skipping over RPMs might be better if not talking about grinders.
It's really not about RPM. When you consider how much time a repair or build is going to take, what does it really matter if a fastener goes in or out in 1.4 seconds or 3 seconds? None. It took longer to get the socket, by far.@@TorqueTestChannel
@stinkycheese804 you might be the odd one out then. Watching a slow high tq snap on rotate off 11 valve cover bolts is painful. More like 15 seconds per. Ratchets aren't for anything high in tq so might as well have some speed. And this is the torque test channel saying this. It's not a rare feeling
Isn’t it the same thing? Most of my collection is Mac, but at 53, I’m done buying tool truck priced tools. Most of my tools are Made in USA, but I picked up the Overdrive wrenches to try them out.
@gwall1789 they appear almost identical hence why I was interested. Despite looking the same I was interested to see if they had any hardness difference heat treatment etc. That would cause a different performance due to one having a higher quality control than the other
Got the 3/4 HERCULES ULTRA TORQUE LAST MONTH it's tight to put SOCKETS on and off but it's got power to spare and now trying to get an ADAPTER to RUN FLEX STACKED LITHIUM or FORGE BATTERY I have FUN running POUCH CELL BATTERIES on different brand of TOOLS
Yeah, I'd like to see use-at-rated-load-until-failure testing, but of course they don't have the time to do that. Unfortunately that is far more what i care about. I rarely have tools fail within the warranty but really don't want to EVER have to replace them, the exception being NiCd based cordless just to move to Li-Ion, but then I have started investing in Ryobi and theirs are backwards compatible so...
Love watching the test. Even if Milwaukee loose a test I'm still buying the Milwaukee, they have been so reliable for me even after hundreds and hundreds of semi truck wheels my 3/4 and the original Batts I've had for over 5 years all still work as I remember from new
Now I want to buy those EWORK batteries for my Makita tools but they probably have a terrible BMS and will not last long, and the risk of explosion is significantly higher. But since they won't charge on the Makita charger maybe they have a proprietary BMS that is actually good.
Tightened a 33mm lug nut with the hercules 3/4(with 8ah battery) until it stopped. Put my 1 inch milwaukee (with a 12ah fully charged battery)on the same nut with a 6 inch extension and it couldn't turn it anymore. Granted there are losses with the extension I'm impressed. Initially hercules is getting my approval. If it holds up time will tell but it's thoroughly impressive in my book. Especially considering I picked it up for 170$.
I need to see DeWalt officially release a 3/4" drive of the DCF961, if only to sate my morbid curiosity! I loved seeing the modded tool perform in a previous video.
Truly appreciate the time and effort you put into your tests! Have you considered some longevity/endurance testing? The performance tests are awesome, however the true value of a tool also includes how long it lasts in practical usage. Would like to see some real life type usage cycles of drills, impact drivers and impact wrenches, etc. Including environmental influences, repeated light, medium and heavy use cycles. Longevity testing would provide valuable information to determine when budget tools are really a value or not. Unfortunately, practical testing would require significant time, effort and creativity. If the practical testing is not an option, maybe you could just provide your opinions based on your experiences with the various tools and brands. Thanks again for all you do to help us make well informed decisions with our tool purchases.
I would love to see you guys test some of the CAT power tools. I also really want to see how their graphene battery stacks up against the competition. I am not sure if you can get the battery yet though.
i have the hercules ultratorque in 1/2 inch drive. used it the other day to try to loosen a 1 inch allen bolt . it wouldn't do it. had to get out my 15 yr old husky 3/4 drive air impact.with a 1/2 inch adapter . took that right out.
I've been perfectly happy with my brushed Ryobi hammer drill. Do I use it all day as a contractor? No, but I could. I did do contractor work back in the day, with 12V cordless (was the midgrade standard at the time). People gave me dirty looks for having a 12V Craftsman instead of their 12V Makitas but I got the job done. More to the point, I don't care much at all about drill torque. I can use my cordless Ryobi to do 2-1/8" door knob holes and just don't have that many occasions to do larger than that, but if I did, still have a couple monster corded, and for demanding metal I would usually use my drill press. For my use it would be a waste of money to pay over $100 for a cordless drill, unlike an impact wrench where the higher numbers do come in handy for (mostly) automotive work. Think I paid about $40 for my bare tool, Ryobi P214 hammer drill, several years ago. No regrets, though today I would of course get a brushless but it's still working great so no need.
Harbor freight also came out with a new compact 3/8 and 1/2 inch hercules impacts. I kinda want to see them tested and I actually bought a 3/8 along with their hi-torque. It was the last one on the shelf.
What surprises me about the battery pack cross-pollination is that nobody's made a Ryobi-compatible tool which can use Ryobi-compatible adapters out-of-the-box. But my guess is that would piss _everybody_ off if users can just switch packs at-will by sliding in another adapter which makes contact Ryobi-style which has the connector protruding into the handle.
Can you help explain why my M18 milwaukee 1/2 inch, setting 3, using a torque stick 90 ft/lb, only shoots at 55-60 ft/lbs? I measured it with a torque stick at 90ft/lbs and I still had so much room of play before it ticked. I used harbor and freight torque extention
I have a question, I bought a used HILTI 3/4 impact gun, and I notice that the head has a hole that runs throught the impact head (like in the video). Does that mean that the 3/4 sockets have the ball bearing that locks it into place, instead?
Makita just released a modern 1/2 High torque, XWT19, that has 780 ft.lbs. of Fastening and 960 ft.lbs. of Nut-Busting Torque, id love to see you test it!
@riba2233 How do you figure? RC batteries are essentially “stacked lithium” batteries. They’re extremely power dense compared to 18650/cylindrical cell style packs.
@@TranceFur 1. Lipos are most often overrated and perform much worse in real life compared to what their specs say 2. These molicels are some of the highest c rate cylindricals (only tabless ones being better) 3. Tools can't draw that much power anyway.
For impact drivers and other small drills and tools, the 1.7 powerstack. That thing is sweet. For EVRYTHING? I'm not sure they have a golilocks battery. The 9 flexvolt is their best but also as heavy as any 12Ah. I'd say maybe the 6XR
I'm really curious about these Harbor Freight 3/4 and 1 '' air impacts. For such a (relatively) cheap price is it worth throwing in the toolbox of a non-heavy duty mechanic's arsenal? And could it even run off a standard shop air hose with say a 55-gallon air compressor. And if you can't keep up a sustained 150 or even 100 psi, how much loss is there VS a half inch. Is there a point where the half inch comes out ahead in a battle of limited line pressure? Would love to see some of this tested.
Hercules doing $49 8.0 amp hour 21700 cells right now is unreal. This 3/4 impact would make 98% of the torque that 12.0 battery makes using the 8.0. For $49. May be switching over to Hercules entirely soon, as all their brushless tools are changing the entire industry, from a price to performance standpoint.
Can you do some comparison for rotary hammers? I am mostly curious about the SDS-plus ones. There is a spicy one from Bosch: 18V-34 (CF or whatever) -- it is basically an SDS-max hammer with SDS-plus bits. Wonder how that fairs.

On it
Looking forward to seeing the new Ingersoll Rand 3/4 cordless impact. W8171
Felt like i saw a 1" variant of it as well. Haven't seen W8171 for sale anywhere
W8191 is the 1”, Same tool just different anvil. Think it’s available to order now but not shipping for a few weeks
@@BrewBry The 1" just looks so much cooler. But the 3/4" might be more impressive in comparisons
@@TorqueTestChannel agree completely, looking forward to seeing one on TTC
Imagine making your 1/2 impact more powerful than your 3/4. Two most popular brands. The mind boggles.
The Ework is manufacturer by Chinese company called ruiba they have a collation of impact wrenches with same model number as Ework apparently they made a decent tools.
ruiba is good and they specialize in impact wrench, they have the drill but not as known as much as their wrench
When are you doing torque multipliers?
Custom made impact extensions for minimal torque loss
A video of what batteries are cross compatible with what other tools would be nice. Maybe even revisit third party compatible batteries. It looks like the clones are arriving and they're doing pretty good. Are the patents on the battery/tool connectors expiring?
@@wiredforstereo nothing ....except for a very few amazon tools. Its the makita that works with most amazon garbage. In general batteries are not cross compatible....only the no name amazon so no point in making a video about it..
They arent cross compatible...theres a 100 no name amazon tools that no one really cares about so no point in a video. The amazon junk works with makita usually....thats all you need to know..
Do you think the Dewhat 1/2 would be good to use with flexvolt 9.0 batteries for taking off lug nuts ???
The DCF900 yeah, anything lower I'd stick with a smaller battery
The DCF900 works fine taking off truck/bus lug nuts without the 9.0 Flexvolt. We have 3 of them. We use 6.0XR, 5.0 PowerStack and 6.0 FlexVolt batteries. They all work great.
Put a drip of oil on hog ring! It softens the oring underneath it making sockets a little easier to come off 🤙
I picked up the Hercules with both batteries as having a quarter brick makes it a little easier to handle than the half brick and is probably a touch gentler on the tool.
Can we see an air vs battery rachet test? Astro has some really high RPM claims on their rachets
Will work on that
What do we care about RPMs instead of torque on a ratchet? I mean sure one can lead to the other but just skipping over RPMs might be better if not talking about grinders.
@@stinkycheese804 for a ratchet? It's all about rpm. You don't use these to break bolts free with the pull of a trigger
Id be interested seeing overdrive from craftsman compared to macs rbrt
Isn’t it the same thing? Most of my collection is Mac, but at 53, I’m done buying tool truck priced tools. Most of my tools are Made in USA, but I picked up the Overdrive wrenches to try them out.
@gwall1789 they appear almost identical hence why I was interested. Despite looking the same I was interested to see if they had any hardness difference heat treatment etc. That would cause a different performance due to one having a higher quality control than the other
wow! That Ework and the Chinese DeWALT knockoff totally caught me by surprise! That was crazy lol
It looks like EWORK needs to be involved in some more tests. Can you test their 1/2”?
Got the 3/4 HERCULES ULTRA TORQUE LAST MONTH it's tight to put SOCKETS on and off but it's got power to spare and now trying to get an ADAPTER to RUN FLEX STACKED LITHIUM or FORGE BATTERY I have FUN running POUCH CELL BATTERIES on different brand of TOOLS
Can you guys test the xgt with 5ah? That's less capacity than the 12ah you use of the Hercules
Wow, the EWORK is a complete surprise. I am curious if their 1/2" impact is impressive too 🤔. As usual, great episode and keep up the good work!
I wish you would put the Forge battery on the Milwaukee tools in these comparisons.
They made a whole video on Forge battery's and what they could and couldnt do.
I want to see a comparison of used impacts. Obviously there are a ton of variables but it would be cool to see how they hold up
Yeah, I'd like to see use-at-rated-load-until-failure testing, but of course they don't have the time to do that. Unfortunately that is far more what i care about. I rarely have tools fail within the warranty but really don't want to EVER have to replace them, the exception being NiCd based cordless just to move to Li-Ion, but then I have started investing in Ryobi and theirs are backwards compatible so...
Just got Hercules 1/2 ultra torque with 5hr battery and charger for 199. Can’t beat it
4:10 didn't blow my mind.
Love watching the test. Even if Milwaukee loose a test I'm still buying the Milwaukee, they have been so reliable for me even after hundreds and hundreds of semi truck wheels my 3/4 and the original Batts I've had for over 5 years all still work as I remember from new
These guys hate Milwaukee 😂 why not put the forge on the 3/4 ????
What’s #1 & #2 on the list?
Now I want to buy those EWORK batteries for my Makita tools but they probably have a terrible BMS and will not last long, and the risk of explosion is significantly higher. But since they won't charge on the Makita charger maybe they have a proprietary BMS that is actually good.
I would definitely be modifying that "EWORK" to read as "EWOK"...
But, I'm a dork who loves Star Wars, sooo... 😅
same lol
Hey TTC, love your work. Id love to see you test the new BL4040F high output 40V battery to see if it helps the 40V makita inpacts.
We dont have them here in the states
The column that says "Max torque/pound weight" is actually per inch length, right?
Yes, sorry. Must be a tie over from the 1" list. Will fix
I wish i could switch my DeWalt's hog ring setup out for a detent pin. Its been almost a year of.use snd its still a nightmare to remove sockets.
I love that we're starting to see 3rd party brands make tools compatible with major brand batteries.
the junk on amazon has always been compatible with makita.nothing new..
i have the hercules ultratorque in 1/2 inch drive. used it the other day to try to loosen a 1 inch allen bolt . it wouldn't do it. had to get out my 15 yr old husky 3/4 drive air impact.with a 1/2 inch adapter . took that right out.
Kinda sad that Ework didn't even need to lie about their performance claims.
Not sure if you have one, but could we maybe start testing the M18 tools with the forge 6.0 battery for the increased beans with spicier packs test.
I’m looking for these on the spreadsheet, but I’m not seeing most of these. I’m only seeing a total of six on the three-quarter inch.
But my guess is that would piss _everybody_ off if users can just switch packs at-will by sliding in another adapter which makes contact Ryobi-style which has the connector protruding into the handle.
i really want to see your power tool collection and your charging setup. I image those black and yellow tubs from the home depot for the tools
Can you please feature the Hyper Tough High Torque?
Can you help explain why my M18 milwaukee 1/2 inch, setting 3, using a torque stick 90 ft/lb, only shoots at 55-60 ft/lbs? I measured it with a torque stick at 90ft/lbs and I still had so much room of play before it ticked. I used harbor and freight torque extention
Vikky and the EWOKs, sounds like Star Wars cartoon..
Harbor Freight strikes again.
Any testing on the milwaukee pistol grip 1" with the new forge battery?
why did we not get a forge battery test on the m18 at the end?
Why doesn't anyone use the Bosch BiTurbo in testing, as you always put up the dewalt 40v flex volt
I would like to see the Porter Cable high torque impact tested. Pccf940m1
You should do a video on 1” extended anvil tire guns, cordless and air
A 3/4" impact wrench with 1/2" adapter, would the adapter remove any torque advantage to simply using the 1/2"?
I have a question, I bought a used HILTI 3/4 impact gun, and I notice that the head has a hole that runs throught the impact head (like in the video). Does that mean that the 3/4 sockets have the ball bearing that locks it into place, instead?
I just bought the Hercules yesterday and HF is running a promo. A tree 5ah battery with impact purchase.
subscribed! you bunch of nerds, keep the good work going!
Makita just released a modern 1/2 High torque, XWT19, that has 780 ft.lbs. of Fastening and 960 ft.lbs. of Nut-Busting Torque, id love to see you test it!
Im curious to see if a high c rate rc battery would outperform "the beans" pack
maybe only slightly but it would have much lower capacity and safety.
@riba2233 How do you figure? RC batteries are essentially “stacked lithium” batteries. They’re extremely power dense compared to 18650/cylindrical cell style packs.
@@TranceFur 1. Lipos are most often overrated and perform much worse in real life compared to what their specs say
2. These molicels are some of the highest c rate cylindricals (only tabless ones being better)
3. Tools can't draw that much power anyway.
What kind of spot weld do you use when building batteries and how thick nickelstrip? Love your show!
From sweden!
Finally, I've been waiting for this
Any data showing what makita lxt tools make with an adaptor and a Milwaukee battery? Can’t find this in any video.
Thanks
Keep it up , great stuff. If you had to buy one everyday dewalt battery what would it be?
For impact drivers and other small drills and tools, the 1.7 powerstack. That thing is sweet.
For EVRYTHING? I'm not sure they have a golilocks battery. The 9 flexvolt is their best but also as heavy as any 12Ah. I'd say maybe the 6XR
Only asking as our batteries in Canada are very expensive
That e works looks surprisingly professionally made. I like it
How does the 3/4” Milwaukee do with the new forge battery?
Can you do some comparison for rotary hammers? I am mostly curious about the SDS-plus ones. There is a spicy one from Bosch: 18V-34 (CF or whatever) -- it is basically an SDS-max hammer with SDS-plus bits. Wonder how that fairs.
Test out the hazett 3/4 impact. Pls
Can you guys test the Mass Fabricator wrench set, claims it's the best open ended wrench sets and thier made from ar500
How about trying the Bosch 3/4” dr impact wrench?
will you guys test the newish IR impact with the swappable anvils?
Do e-Work batteries work with seesii impacts?
Vikki high torques.... sounded like a film to me...
Thank you (Again) for bringing truth to our journey
would you think that trying the FSYAO dewalt impact would be better than getting a used dewalt impact with similar torque specs?
