My favorite thing about RTJ is they bring back the back and forth rapping of old school hip hop. It’s easy to just lay your verse down and leave the room but dudes actually working together to make great shit.

I always tell snobby classic rock heads (not calling you one, I've just met plenty that are snobby and think they're somehow "above" rap) that refuse to regard rap as anything more than trash: they have only seen the tip of the iceberg, in terms of what hip hop and rap can actually be.

Poppy Kneegrow I am aware. The Cold Vein instrumental is my background music of choice while working from home these days. But, if you look at Hip Hop artists of their age they have remained far more relevant and productive than most and are connected to the current generation of listeners in ways that many artists cannot maintain across their career. The short point to my comment is that both their longevity and continued relevance as artists is inspiring.

I mean they're pretty big, I been into El-p's since 2001 and if you'd told me he'd blow up the way he has with this I wouldn't have believed it, not that he didn't deserve it but just that his music was too out there to. RTJ is a bit more accessible to a mainstream audience but I don't think he's compromised his sound. I went from seeing him perform to a small club to a crowd of about 100 in 2007 to seeing them play the main stage at Glastonbury to about 50,000.
