    You forgot about Paints & Tools set! It got decent selection of colors (13 pots, tho no yellow or green? Sigmar or 9th ed set may be better depending on your needs!) and some good tools to start with (you basically get 2-3 pots and tools for free).

      Ehhh the file is kind of a joke tbh. The clippers are serviceable though. You'd be better off getting your files from army painter and getting some brushes from Micheals. Just get colors relevent to what your actually collecting since they'll dry out.

    You can get a little 1000pt Thousand Sons army out of the regular starter set if you want:
    Terminator Sorcerer (from Captain)
    Winged DPrince (from Winged Prime)
    5 Rubrics w/warpflamers (from Infernus Marines)
    5 Scarab Termies w/ Soulreaper and Havoc Launcher (from termies + teleporter pod)
    20 Tzaangor (from Termagants)
    2 Chaos Spawn (from Leapers)
    1 Mutalith Vortex Beast (from Psychophage).
    Chuck an Arcane Vortex on the DP for some tasty melee, a Tele Crystal on the Sorcerer, and you're good to go. A bit of light shooting, a bit of melee, a bit of objective control, a bit of teleporting, a smattering of magic. 970pts of fairly useful troops, all in one box, with minimal converting needed, mostly just clipping off claws/arms or gluing claws/sprue pieces to the psychophage or termies/termagants for kopeshes/chainswords. You'll even have a Leaper body left over for bits (or a Shaman?), and the ripper swarms. Cut up the box, and use some sprue pieces for terrain. £65 for a 1000pts army. Bargain!

    • @sambojinbojin-sam6550
      @sambojinbojin-sam6550 Год назад +2

      For future army expansion, you'll probably be able to pick up psychophages and Infernus marines really cheaply pretty soon. Add in an Ahriman for a bit more magic, and you'll be at 1500-2000pts in no time.
      If you don't want the Tzaangor, you could always just use them as 2x10 Blue Horrors (with individual rippers as Brimstone Horrors) for a bit of infiltration, or paint one half pink and the other half blue and the rippers orange/red, so you've got heaps of options on how to use them. Just clip off the weapons and tails and the odd arm here or there, hit them with a lighter for a few seconds, and you're done.
      You could turn the Leapers into 3x Tzeentch Flamers pretty easily as well, if you don't want the spawn. You do have all those termagant weapons you just clipped off for the horrors, just waiting to be all flamer-like. Or make them as 3x Exalted Flamers, if you're trying to boost points on the way to 2000 (adds a smidgen more reasonable firepower too). Sure, you'll need some new bases, but you did just buy a cardboard box and a play-mat you'll probably never use for anything other than terrain making....
      Soulreaper cannons are surprisingly easy to make from a bunch of toothpicks glued together, so chuck one in the rubric squad, and add one to your slightly overcosted Daemon Prince while you're at it as well, just so it looks nice and 1kSons'y. Gold weapons works wonders for that 🙂

    • @sambojinbojin-sam6550
      @sambojinbojin-sam6550 Год назад +2

      Still, with the Pink/ Blue Horrors and Flamers/ Exalteds option, you've got multiple ways of playing this army and heaps of deployment options with maybe/deepstrike, all from that one £65 box. Change the character enhancements to taste (you can just barely Doombolt something if you want, but it'll take a few more points than 1000 if you want to turn off armour saves for a moment. Unless you grab Ahriman. So it's still justified on the addiction of wh40k).

    Note that if you decide to just get the Starter Set and buy the Termie Librarian and Barbgaunts separately, and you don’t care about the terrain and the core rules, you are saving some money compared to the Ultimate set. Doubly so if you buy them from third party sites where the seller is breaking apart their Leviathan set.

    • @Morrodin182
      @Morrodin182 Год назад +2

      I kind of disagree with your take: The starter set is a trap imho. Why? They aren't combat patrol sized, which is the get-into-warhammer game size. If you want want to add the librarian (24 pound) and the barbgaunts (27.50 pound) you are paying 116,5 which is AWFULLY close to the 125 pound the Ultimate starter set will cost you.
      Keep in mind the rules aren't the core rules but starter rules, there is 0 actual terrain in it AND the gaming mat is a paper sheet instead of cardboard. I do know you said 'if you don't care about terrain and rules' but most new players, which the *starter* set, targets will care. So yes, technically you are right but from a starter point of view you are almost paying the same amount of money (6.8% difference) to get a lot less value. Even as a non new player who just happens to like these armies: 8,5 pound for terrain is a steal (even if it IS boring and lackluster terrain)
      Anyway just my point of view!

    • @tastiGMmaster2099
      @tastiGMmaster2099 Год назад

      @@Morrodin182 Uh? I mean, $20 lower is still cheaper.
      Otherwise, the core rules are negligible considering they're free online and nothing's stopping you from printing them out. And the terrain, if you're really cash-strapped, you could just make use of whatever's in your house.
      And that's without getting into third party sites. From the people breaking apart their Leviathan boxes, Barbgaunts I'm seeing go from $30-$35 and the Termie Librarian go from $28-$30 if you wanted to save even more.

    • @Morrodin182
      @Morrodin182 Год назад

      @@tastiGMmaster2099 As I said, you are technically right it is cheaper but:
      - it is not 20 dollar cheaper when you use GW prices but more in the range of 10 to 12 bucks.
      - The core rules book can have value as you don't need to print them out yourself. Ink isn't for free and some people (like me) prefer physical rules over digital.
      - Terrain: yes you can make free terrain. I actually enjoy creating my own terrain. On the other hand GW terrain comes at a certain cost.
      - You could even argue that if you buy the ultimate box and sell the terrain + terrainboards + rules you could save money AND still have two full combat patrols.
      - Yes you can buy from third party stores but from those same third parties stores the ultimate box will also come with a reduced price.
      Just do the math: 125 pound for the ultimate starter - 35 pound for the terrain (bunker + walls retails from GW for 52,5 pound) - 20 pound of the boards (GW asks 35 pound for terrain boards) - 10 pound for the rules (GW asks 15 pounds for the only-rules book) equals paying 60 pound, which is a lower price than the normal starter and you still have the extra troops to round out the combat patrol.
      So, once again when I look at these different boxes and do the breakdown, I have to disagree with your take.

      @@tastiGMmaster2099 Yeah if you use dollars directly i guess you are 'right'. Well kind of, as it is $17 ;). I used pounds and then converted the difference to dollar, which is why I end up on a difference of about 10 to 12 dollar (depending on conversion rate).
      Anyway that doesn't invalidate all the rest that I wrote. It is a bit sad really that you choose to focus on what essentially is just a detail and ignore the plain fact that the starter is a much worse deal than the ultimate starter.
      Just to point it out once more, 210 dollar for ultimate starter gives you:
      - warhammer rules worth $25
      - Battlezone fronteris STC-Hab bunker and stockades worth $85
      - 2x cardboard battleground worth $60
      - Librarian in terminator armor worth $38
      - Barbgaunts worth $45
      - Everything else the regular starter gives.
      In total you pay 100 dollar more but you receive 253 dollar more worth of product. If you sell the rulebook, the bunker + stockades and the battleground (170 dollar GW retail price) you can easily recuperate the 100 dollar price difference.

    With the announcement of new Termagant weapon options these sets may be dead on arrival

    • @rankcolour8780
      @rankcolour8780 Год назад

      Kind of the opposite.
      A whole unit of special weapon gants is a waste, but you would get great mileage from 1 box of special-gants and 3 very cheap sprues of fleshborer gants and mixing them up. Anyone that had the foresight to pick up cheap Leviathan termagants the last couple of weeks from ebay is ecstatic (they were like £6-7 for a while).

    GW finally offers a legit intro for their game, $5 less than a new video game. GW knew what they were doing, because the individual SM/Nids paint sets are still viable to be purchased along side the intro set for new players looking to get into the game quick with moderately painted, detailed, and based models. For new SM players, I would recommend getting the intro set and 2 SM paint sets. Having a 10 man infernus sqaud with an extra as a test model is a great way to start. From the paints you get, you have the start to a good handful of main/succesor/custom chapters, so buyng an extra paint or 2 is much better than buying all of these individually. Cant say the same for the Nids though. You would need 4 paint sets to get another squad of termaguants. However, because Nids are a horde army, all those extra paints actually might come in handy depending on what hive fleet or custom fleet you go with. I just wouldnt recommend getting 4 sets at the start unless youre really set on Nids as your army for a long time. Maybe just buy one or 2 for the paint and periodically buy 2 more as you no doubt will run out of paint fast with those guys and eventually youll have another unit of termagaunts

    I've just returned my copy of Leviathan to get the ultimate starter. For someone with no terrain or boards it's a no brainer. It includes everything to jump into the combat patrols and a handy rules book, whereas with leviathan I get a giant limited edition book which is a pain to game with and not everything I need to play for MORE money haha

      Leviathan overall I think is still better value, it's not even close.
      GW terrains are overpriced as hell, there are tons of tutorials on how to make your own terrain with basically garbage lying around the house, and a board costs next to nothing to make too; The code rule book can be downloaded and printed out for free, if you don't want to drag the big book around, and there is even a youtuber who turned the core rules and stat cards into pdf for people to download as they please; dice and ruler costs almost nothing to get;
      With the ulti set you're missing the neurogaunts, the screamer killer, neurotyrant, apothecary biologis, sternguard veterans, the lieutenant, and a giant ass dreadnaught, all while saving only $40.

      @@Markynaz Of course it’s better value as you go up, in general. But not for what I want. ultimate starter cost me €144. Terrain and a physical rule book is practically free lol

    Cut the prices of all GW products by 25% - 35% and then they will be priced ok.

      @godot1785 Год назад +2

      well i would agree to that ( but more like 40-50% percent for what it is in the end but still) but they made their products even more expensive now lol i mean look at the recruit box you could have bought the 9th edition box for 40 euros wich was fine but now the 10th edition is 15 euros more expensive even when it offers less minis (and less cooler minis...)

      @@godot1785 I still remember when they spat into Orc and Goblins players when 8th ed Army Book came out. Month before it a box of 19 Orc Boys was for 20 pounds or sth and after the release it was cut to 10 models in a box... for the same price. Then they did it the same with Dire Avengers. And don't get me started on the Failcast price hike. 40-50% would be even more fair but it's GW so we won't see it.

    I am sorry, but the prices are just too high to justify most of these. Not enough models and they are padding then with other stuff to compensate.

      Combat patrols are $160 US each, and you get two full ones for $210 along with the rules and some basic terrain. As far as GW stuff goes, this is pretty good actually.

    I think people forget that leviathan and indomitus, are for the players who will happily drop 150 pounds for a box of minis.
    These starter sets are mostly bought by a parent or a friend.

    Very new to 40k, don't even have a single product yet.
    Is there any reason why I wouldn't want to save $800 by 3d printing.
