If anyone doesn't understand peer reviewed studies, then they are not experts. It's good that you are encouraging people to look into the science of things.
There's now an organic fertilizer at home depot (from Purely Organic Products) which is also mostly soybean meal but it provides 2.5lbs of nitrogen (10-0-2 in a 25lb bag) for $19 in my area vs. 2.8lbs of nitrogen (7-1-2 in a 40lb bag) for the Andersons product which is currently $71 on Amazon. So you're getting about the same amount of nitrogen pounds on the ground (which then means if you do the math correctly you'll get about the same coverage area out of either bag) but you're paying more than 3 times the cost... I've never used the POP product (I've always been a Milorganite guy), but I've been thinking about trying something different on occasion, rotating with Milorganite. And I don't know what micronutrients might or might not be in the POP product but I'm sure you could pick up a spray on product to get that if that was a concern. Either way, $71 for 2.5lbs of N is crazy high -- that's more expensive than corn gluten meal!
The organic fertilizer shown on the video looks similar to the one I put which is called soybean meal. It's smells so good. It's $17 - $22 in some farm stores.
Man I found your channel and one other guy I enjoy. I've been using a lawn treatment service but the prices have really gone up and last Summer towards the end they messed up and did 2 treatments too close together and burned my grass. Now I have zoysia and my yard was one of the best in my community (it's a smaller community). Well I used Scott in the Fall and it started coming back alright. However about 3 weeks ago it was looking lime - not very dark green. Well I did Milo, Ironnite, HumiChar and chicken feed (the one you said) I had to drive to a Tractor supply quite a distance for it. Well my yard is looking Great, dark green and lush.
So to make sure i understand, put PGF complete early spring, then Organic once is summer time.. I'm in the Atlanta area as well. And of course Super Juice
Learning the ideal NPK ratio and range was very beneficial. Thank you. I hope this works in Hawaii. I know you are speaking from Georgia. Two very different environments. I get about 80 inches of rain per year.
Thanks doc, very thought provoking for a long time Milorganite user.....I’ve been looking for more organic, environmentally conscious means for all of my lawncare. I have a fledgling channel that isn’t nearly as intelligent as yours but still one of the only lawn enthusiast channels that is not into gobs of chemicals(pesticides etc.) I’m pretty piss poor but believe in paying for a good quality product and this one seems right up my alley, thanks for the info. Additionally, I have to say your delivery and overall vibe or demeanor in your videos is very refreshing. Not that I’m gonna blindly agree with everything you say or pitch, but I’m with ya buddy. In a time where RUclips has given rise to lots of lawn gods, your no frills straight forward delivery is pretty damn awesome so thank you for that. And again, thanks for the tip on this product. If I do acquire I’ll do it thru you link.
Hey Doc, my question is why do you not have enough results on the other two test areas but you are promoting the third sample. Shouldn’t you wait till you have ample time on all three test strips before making a choice?
What about a 3-1-2 or a 7-1-1 fertiliser? I've seen the former marketed as plant food, the latter as lawn food. Surely you only supply what's required? In terms of soil microorganisms, their bodies have a 8:1 C:N ratio but they require an additional 16 parts C for energy. So the perfect C:N ratio for them to thrive is 24:1.
I applied 24-0-11 on my Bermuda yesterday. My lawn was/is lacking in nutrition, so I threw down that 24-011 (hoping that it helps) then I ran into Innova product. I purchased Innova 7-1-2. How early can I apply it? Thank you, the Vin Diesel of lawn care I’m in North TX.
I have been following because I've been waiting on this! Then to find out that this is Andersons!!! I like using their products! I have to just figure out if I can swing 3-4 bags per application. I noticed something on the label that I question...40# covers 11k sq ft for low rate..then the med, high rate are based off 50#...but the bag is 40#?
Hi Doc, Love your videos but I have a question. Initially you advocated the 7-1-2 formula. Now you advocate the 16-4-8 formula. Why the change as this is very confusing? Thanks in advance.
Just placed my order! Quick question: I'm here in Atlanta, and looking at the temperatures on the 10 day forecast, it looks like we have enough warm weather ahead to safely push the lawn one last time before winter with this organic fertilizer. Would you agree with my thought process here? Or do I not have to worry about that too with the organic because if the organic isn't "digested" by warm temps then it's not "pushing" the lawn anyway. --Been watching all your videos and REALLY appreciate your work!
Lol your “horrible nasty” lawn looks like my good part of my lawn!! What’s your recommendation for a drought tolerant cool season grass seed? My yard is about an acre and a half of unirrigated sandier soil. I’ve got a test strip, approximately 30’x80’ that I brought in some “premium” soil and worked it into the soil after mowing as closely to the ground as I could. I’m trying a seed made Johnathan Green, Black Beauty.
Can we just use the organic fertilizer and nothing else. Wa State. cool grass no irrigation. We don't need the best lawn just a fairly green lawn. Thank you for your time. Lindy Lu 😊
I am confused. Is the the PGF with the 7-1-2 or instead of, and should I still use the super juice. That is really quite a wallet whopper! I know you said your not the$$ counter, but is it really worth it to change from 7-1-2? Thanks great info.
Hey Doc, I just down some pre emergent yesterday. But I also need to treat for fungus & I need fertilizer put down. Would it be safe to put liquid fungus & granular treatment and liquid & granular fertilizer all at once? Or should I wait in between the fungus & fertilizer treatments? If so, how long do I wait in between? Thanks in advance!
Damn boy...… you're gett'n busy. LOL... Spray the fungus treatment early one day with no rain and let dry for 24 hours. Then hit it with everything else. I like the fungus treatment to sit for at least 24 hours with no water, rain, or spray.
For 3-4 month old Bermuda in TX, what do you recommend in mid April and going forward? I saw on your website something along the lines of not doing anything for the first full year of new sod, then I saw you saying you could use super juice and organic fertilizer. Then, where does PGF Complete fit in. Thank you.
Hello Doc please can you help. The back of our garden was clay and when it rains it doesn't drain away. So we have spent a lot of money having it all dug up and drains put in. I think it might have solved the problem but here in the UK we haven't had much rain so don't know how well it's worked. But the problem now is the company put new turf down and initially it looked beautiful. But it's starting to grow brown. It seems to be getting worse. We did all the right things watering it for a few weeks. I've had the company out and they are saying it's fine. Well it's not because it's getting more brown day by day. The back garden is approximately a quarter of an acre. And has cost so much. Please can you advise. Thanking you
Hi Doc I am indeed very excited for this product finally coming out! This is the first ideal organic fertilizer since Ringer Lawn Restore or Milorganite, with this in the ideal NPK ratio. Only question I have is how will there be a mad rush to purchase this product as you say, when we're at the end of the season already? I will probably get it for spring though!
I am putting some PGF Complete out this evening. Would you recommend putting some of this out in a month or so or should I stick to just one type of fertilizer?
Doc, You say that next year all you are going to use is super juice and the organic fertilizer. Does that mean that you will no longer be putting down Humic DC? What about if my soil test comes back an says I am deficient in P or K? Will this new fertilizer correct that deficiency or should I take other remedial action?
Hey doc great video again was wondering if that new fert is ok for cool season grass too? I live up in NY have a tri mix kbg rye tall fescue . thanks again

If I went ahead and got this product, what else could I do to make up the numbers that are lacking in the recommendations, for the organic?
