    This is interesting that she does "hips then knees." I used to do that until I saw videos from Aleksey Torohktiy. He teaches knees then hips and advises to stay over the bar as long as possible. This has made a huge difference in my lifting - a game changer. Do body proportions have anything to do with which method is better? Unlike Toma I have short legs and a long torso.

    • @hyoshida55
      @hyoshida55 2 года назад

      I’ve only seen torokhtiy’s videos and dunno what he teaches but he doesn’t do (much) knee reciprocation that’s often talked about here does he?
      So I think that’s more diff in technique than anything
      And kuo would fall into long torso short limbs group right

    • @MikeXCSkier
      @MikeXCSkier 2 года назад +1

      @@hyoshida55 " he doesn’t do (much) knee reciprocation"
      You are correct. The way he teaches it there seems to be very little of the knees coming forward or the knees "rebending" under the bar. It seems to me that this is related to limb length. For instance, Zack Telander is a big fan of Torohktiy and he modified his technique based on Torohktiy's teaching method. Zack is 6' 4" with long legs and arms. When he lifts he has a very noticeable movement of the knees under the bar. Before I found Torohktiy's videos I purposely moved my knees under the bar and I think I overdid this move. My shoulders got behind the bar early and my pull was not very powerful. Modifying my technique based on Torohktiy's method has changed my life. I am built the opposite of Zack - I'm 5' 8" with short legs, short-ish arms, and a long torso. I can set up with my hips very low and my torso fairly vertical and still have no problem getting the bar around my knees. I suspect that by the time the bar reaches mid thigh in my clean I'm already in the correct power position without having to adjust. A person with long legs needs to set up with the hips somewhat higher to be able to get the bar around the knees. Once past the knees, a long-legged lifter needs to adjust to get into the correct power position.
      Anyway, that's my take on what is going on. I may be completely wrong.

      @@MikeXCSkier I’m in no position to say what’s better or to argue with torokhtiy…
      but my personal experience:
      I used blocks so the bar starts above knees and it’s easier (for me) if I have the knees bent.
      I havelong torso and short limbs so I think the shorter moment arm for the hip extensor helps (but I’m no biomechanics guy)
      and after the hip extension, as I still have my knees bent I can get the legs into it.
      I do feel it adds complexity to the movement though.
      and… lu’s doing it

    The "Toma Shuffle." She's better with lighter weights but once it gets heavy you can really see the right foot thing.

    Is there any support for people who have taken exogenous anabolics then stopped if that load benefit carries forward (notice I stated load benefit not strength)…it’s not only the load of the muscles that are stimulated but also the nervous system that otherwise would not have been trained with such a load. Just curious to know if anyone has some input on that.

    • @teiwaztim1482
      @teiwaztim1482 Год назад +1

      training the nervous system is typically not alerted by substances, speaking only of PED's, not benzo-class drugs. an athlete like her, state sponsored and thoroughly coached to be a dominant player, this is her job. stress management is probably her #2 priority behind weight lifted. so, did her use of gear increase that threshold? its relative to the stress.
      of more importance would be [in my thinking] joint/tendon/ligament stress, or just injury. how would "restoratives" aid in that issue? i mean, restoratives...
