- Tackling the longest 4x4 route in the country. The famous Namaqua Eco 4x4 trail!
In this episode we leave our Tierhoek campsite which we found by accident and continue to the Richtersveld National Park. The Jimny ran out of fuel and we got stuck in dry river beds.

Mike and I head up to the Northern Cape to explore the famous Namaqua Eco 4x4 Route & Richtersveld National Park travelling all along the Orange River. At 600km in total, this route is the longest in South Africa and also one of the prettiest.

Lekker Henry, baie geniet om te kyk. Dink dit sal cool wees om ini toekoms n google map flyover in te werk dat mens mooi kan sien waar julle ry. PS Nou die tweede gekyk, wil daar ry sodra lockdown klaar is, soek ernstig vars lug!! Baie goeie series, dankie!!
When we drove into Richtersveld (2009) from the Namibian side we were asked how many days did we intend to stay there? If we were not at one of the gates on the agreed day, a helicopter would come looking for us. And we were obliged to have 40 liters of drinking water with us...!
I really have to do something like this with my Samurai one day

Often when I watch off-road footage from the early 1900s, showing Model Ts and similar vehicles on roads most modern 4WDs would shy away from - and all on Marie biscuit wheels - I'm left wondering if the fat tyre movement is not just a huge marketing scam by the tyre manufacturers. An 'oldtimer' with biscuit wheels would have breezed through the silt shown in opening footage, yet the fat-tyred vehicles battled.
The thin wheels do have some advantages especially cutting through mud and having less rolling resistance. My biggest issue with them on our heavy rigs are the contact area for grip and flotation on soft terrain. Remember the wide offset rims also make them look much wider, but this was to get the wheels out for better road handling. You can still buy tall skinny tyres for these vehicles, we just have a lot more options now thankfully
Hoeveel gee daai Landrover jou liter per km. My Pajero Gen 2, 3.5v6 gee my 5,5km per liter. Of ek nou mooi ry, hard ry, gelaai is, sleep, leeg, aircon aan, aircon af, dit is wat ek kry. Ek LOVE my Pajero.
Pugly het op hierdie trip so tussen 5 en 6kml gegee wat in my oe glad nie te sleg vir 'n petrol engine is nie

Julle ouens maak fênsie disse vir so 'n trip! Ook maar net omdat die tantes by is, ons weet as hulle weg is, is dit net wors, tjops en bier en brood.
Ek en Mike hou eintlik baie van kos maak op kamp, net nie die skoonmaak deel nie😁 Ons probeer altyd nuwe braai resepte. Dis mos wat kamp so lekker maak!
@@HendriMouton Dit lyk baie lekker, ek moet sê. Julle moet gerus Namibië toe gaan, as julle die Richtersveld geniet het sal julle Damaraland en Kaokoland in Nam ook geniet!
Defenders are good off road vehicles but can't impress with their reliability when compared with Japanese off roaders.
That's why Pugly is half LR and half Toyota😜
