Patek makes about 70,000 watches a year, way more than AP with 51,000 and Vacheron with 35,000 (2023 Morgan Stanley estimates)

Tony the quality is very good.👍 Your regular viewers appreciate you.🙏🏼 The Rolex AD is also Patek AD that I regularly visit. I’ve been offered on at least 4 different occasions different variations of Calatrava. Getting Aquanaut or Nautilus is like hitting lottery.😏Patek Philippe make excellent watches but certain models definitely over hyped.

I'm really enjoying your videos about watches, especially your honest approach. I appreciate that you admit you don't know all the references and specs since there are already many channels for that. I'm relatively young but have been into watches since I was 20, focusing on their technical and aesthetic aspects. As I've gotten into more high end brands, I've noticed how the luxury watch industry tries to create status anxiety and make consumers feel inadequate, and it eats away at my interest in the hobby.

I love Patek Philippe watches even though I do not own one and never will own one. I do not love watch snobbery. I do not engage with those types of watch collectors either. I am sure watch snobs will get over it. Thanx for the video and hope you end up getting your RUclips channel issues sorted.

You're so awesome! You own up to being a real human instead of pretending that you're the premier authoritative expert.on all things watches, and that's one of many reasons that makes your content so down to earth and interesting. Another great video with interesting conversation points as always! The story about how you lost your previous channel is interesting and sucks; nowdays you can set up recovery phone numbers and email addresses to hopefully prevent that kind of a mess. If the auth was somehow tied to a phone number you didn’t have, I could see it. Google and pretty much any similar provider is terrible to work with to recover that stuff; I think you’d have an easier time getting clearance with the CIA. It’s a mess and we have, like most things, our litigious society and a few bad apples to blame for it. What a production lol.
Anyhow, onto more interesting and important topics! There’s so much info in the world, no one can remember every little detail. So you misspoke on a few small things. Big deal, that just means you’re human..memorized knowledge in no way correlates to skill or experience in an area; that’s my pet peeve in my industry and the world and our schooling and values system in general. People conflate memorization with logical thinking ability and intelligence (there are in a lot of studies, some relationship between raw memory capacity and recall and intelligence, but it’s not a hard and fast thing, and it’s also not really applied in the context of rote memorization so much as recall and pattern recognition). You’re totally fine and unfortunately a lot of people like to make themselves feel “big” because they can correct people on one or two facts they just happened to know or google after the fact instead of you who is doing everything real time. End rant lol, I’m here for watch content, as in the temporal and not visual kind!
I also don’t get the watch snob thing with a lot of the higher horology brands and barrier to entry. I get luxury can be defined as scarcity via price and/or limited availability, but this is just getting ridiculous lol. Like you said, if you find a cool AD, Rolex can be a thing. Luckily I’ve never been into AP or Patek, Rolex is about the height of my interest in prestigious brands and outside of that, I’m looking forward to acquisition of lesser-known brands like Grand Sieko, Glasshutte, etc. At the end of the day you’re paying X amount of dollars for a product, lots of people have that much money or more wrapped up into a house, car, or other hobby, and it’s not such an ordeal. The watch world and all of the social dynamics in it are certainly “interesting”. It’s great to be able to just hang out with watch people and talk about stuff without any underlying status symbol bs, just like any other hobby. That’s why I like your channel- it seems honest and just like a guy having a conversation and not trying to push anything. It’s just fun.
Here’s a long-winded question- you have mentioned selling watches before, such as Omega and Cartier. I’m pretty new to the hobby and generally a one watch a year guy; I save up for something and make an event out of purchasing it after doing lots of research. As such, I really don’t see myself parting with any of my collection at this point. Do you have watches that have stuck with you since you started the hobby and if so, what’s a watch that had always been around that you always cherish? Have you sold Rolexes before, and do you find yourself hanging onto those more than other brands and if so, why do you think that is?

Your comments about SAG made me think of the great 1982 movie "The Verdict" starring Paul Newman. If you look closely at the people sitting in the courtroom watching the trial you will be able to spot a young Bruce Willis.

I see zero problem with having 'entry level' stuff personally.
I cannot get a Daytona, but am not doing a Paula Vennells (UK thing) about it because I am not a weak woman!
There is the grey market for that, just the same as if you want a Porsche GT3 RS.
Nobody should want to go straight to a GT3 RS ; )

Wobble was slightly painful to watch Tony.......... But I know you will come back stronger ; )
    Question for Friday:
Have you noticed how certain RUclipsrs slag Rolex off for RUclips cash (and now sponsors cash in Brittanys case), whilst being big Rolex fans and owners?
They say they are not Rolex haters (which is true) but have no shame in opening the Rolex haters cage and unleashing them all onto us.
The Twisted haters seem to completely ignore that the RUclipsr concerned has multiple Rolex's, and that they are effectively using the Rolex haters to make money, and by doing so spoil the hobby!
Andrew Morgan, Britt Pearce, Jenni Elle (lost cause), and Russell/Mad Watch Collector have all done this, but special mention goes to Harrison from Chisholm Hunter, who is in complete denial that he is son and heir to his dads (Harry Brown (Harrys Son/Harrison, get it? ;) business and can have any watch he wants!
The upshot of all this is that you have stayed largely true to yourself, which is massively respected.
We really do not care if you wobble a bit now and then 😉

    Another Question:
If you ever had a sponsor, who would you like it to be?
I find it funny that Fred Mills (of B1M) promotes the art investment platform 'Masterworks' but does not actually invest in them personally!

Tony, I was LITERALLY thinking about this topic the other day, and I didn't even know you uploaded a video on it.
Why does Rolex receive all the flack for their BS but not Patek Philippe? I understand one is more exclusive than the other, but look at what both brands are doing.
Rolex: Building new facilities to meet demand, acquired Bucherer to sell to the consumer, cracking down on ADs and revoking licenses (at least in Atlanta).
Patek Philippe: No new facilities, discontinued the 5711 because the owner said "it's getting too popular," could care less what the ADs are doing.

      Yeah man. Pretty crazy.

    • @sn00ze88
      @sn00ze88 Месяц назад

There's some misconceptions here that needs to be straightened out. I'm not sure where you're getting that info that Patek isn't fulfilling it's clientele with volume needed and also there's zero punishment for flipping. However, just like in real life, the status, and your wealth matters in the eyes of the judges.
1.) Patek has a new building the PP6 manufacture that they paid CHF600mil in Cash for. Thierry did an interview on this and why he paid cash rather than a loan on the building more than 2-3 years ago. Very interesting insight to how he view managing an independent brand.
2.) Steel pieces (including ladies, prior to steel complications) pieces made up for 20%ish of Patek's entire collection. Is it logical that he doesn't want that small collection to overshadow the complications? Sure it does. Taking out that steel production and moving it to steel complications where they could charge more while retaining youthful buyers is also very smart. Besides, they brought back a redesigned 5811 in gold to obtain a higher marginal price. What's not to love if you're a biz owner?!?!
3.) Patek had closed more ADs than Rolex ever did. In 2023 alone, they closed over 30% of their ADs including 2 Tiffany stores.
To cover the flipping situation. In Asia, powerful families own the biggest ADs and retail spaces. Are you going to cut them off and sell them on your own? I suspect you are from either HKG or SG... you should know who truly owns these spaces. At least with Patek, nautilus and aquanaut approval needs to go through either GMT or Libertas (in SG or HK) prior to sales, so they know who these goes to. No, Rolex won't close their ADs in these places over flipping. ADs in HK are a prime example.
