    "How can I get into dispatching cars?" That's a question I get asked at least once a week. Or, "How can I start booking cars for vehicle transporters?" It's also part of the reason I created Auto Transport Intel less than a year ago - because I spend a lot of time booking cars for transport.
    My name is Jay and I refer to myself as the Car Hauling Dispatcher. I have worked in Auto Transport as a dispatcher for many years and I have trained my car hauling dispatchers from scratch. While I think most of those folks have moved on to other jobs, I'm hoping no one can say I didn't try to train them well. And I truly believe it's because booking cars is not for everybody. Car hauling dispatch is hard. For the amount of stress involved in dispatching, it can feel very unrewarding. However, when I am training a new car hauler dispatcher, I work very hard to answer every question and cover as much information as I can. That's why this Car Hauling Dispatch Training session - PART ONE - lasted two hours. And I hope you join me for PART TWO - coming in 2 weeks.
    Tonight, Mike was my over the phone trainee (watching online with a 7-second delay). The Car Hauling Dispatch Training course material I used was created by me and was presented on a Google spreadsheet. It is not proprietary information and I am sharing it with you freely. I hope it helps you either become a better dispatcher or at least appreciate how difficult it is to train an auto transport dispatcher from scratch. In addition to my oultine, here are some helpful links to loadboards and information I mentioned:

    Let's face it. Lately, it's been freaking cold outside. And that means equipment breaks down and bodies get tired faster. And dedicated Car Haulers keep the rubber side down and keep delivering all of our cars. So this show is to recognize them and the hard work they do. And hopefully the next time you ship a car you understand what you're paying for and why. #carhaulingdispatcher #dispatchertraining #autotransportdispatch
    Dave has a lot of great videos on his site about what it takes to be a car hauler and many of the sacrifices you'll need to make to succeed. I appreciate that you saw the need for more distribution of information regarding this field and were willing to tackle the job of getting it out there. My husband just purchased a car hauling trailer and went out there today totally unarmed, uninformed, blind trying to haul cars from an auction place. I caught your link somewhere today, took the time to watch you and what you have available in valuable knowledge and info and called him up and told him to come home first to arm himself with at least the basic knowledge of what he needs to know PRIOR to putting himself out there. I'm thankful for the valuable info you are conveying free to people. Really grateful.

    One of the best videos that I have seen on RUclips, it was very helpful, I can't thank you enough, I have worked in a different industry for a feel years, and I was looking for a part-time job from like 4-8 pm or something that I can do during the day since I am an appliance repair and after every call, I drive about 20 minutes and I tough that dispatching would be possible, after watching this video I realize that this would not work. By making a video like this you definitely help many people looking for a new career to enter this one or decide if this is a good fit for them. I wish more jobs would do a class like this with 2 hours felt like it was 15 minutes so people could have a better understanding of other jobs before jumping into it. Once again, thank you much for your time and effort.
    Sincerely Magno Tubertine

    Jay, you are the man! Best videos by far in this space. I'm about to dispatch a car hauler but I paused when you said, It's hard, frustrating , very stressful, very hard and unrewarding. Without asking how much you make, it must be worth it. For all that stress and difficulty, it must be very lucrative.right? i'm a former welding inspector, so the stress cant be too bad, but how hard is it? • @andremzk
    @andremzk 6 лет назад

    1:26:46 Very simple. Have a Power of Attorney signed by your driver giving you permission to sign on their behalf for dispatch related activities. You're free to go from there. Dispatchers should have that as a part of their dispatch contract.

    • @ATIAutoBusiness
      @ATIAutoBusiness  6 лет назад

      That's an interesting solution. However, Power of Attorney is usually reserved for someone very close to you. And frankly, I don't think all of the drivers I work with even today would be on board with that kind of set up. Nor would I want that level of legal responsibility in their business. Are you a dispatcher, driver or broker?

  • @sharonshaw666

    • @ATIAutoBusiness
      @ATIAutoBusiness  5 лет назад +3

      Thanks for the comment - and for watching. You don't need a permit, but recent conversations are pointing out that dispatchers need a broker's license. Since I am not a lawyer (and therefore not providing legal advice), I will point out that very few dispatchers have a broker's license - and most are only dispatching for one carrier. Logistically, if the driver has access to a load board, anyone can book loads on the driver's behalf using that information. That's how I learned it and I believe that still applies.

    How many truckers can 1 person successfully dispatch for on a regular basis without going postal? Let’s say 1 truck/trailer per trucker/company.

    • @ATIAutoBusiness
      @ATIAutoBusiness  7 лет назад

      Great question! In Car Hauling, 7 full time drivers (each a separate company) will most likely make you postal! For a veteran dispatcher, 5-6 should be a good balance point. For a new dispatcher, 3 will seem like the max. Freight is totally different where dispatchers often don't work with less than 10 trucks at a time. I hope that helps and I'd love to hear how many you're working with and what you've experienced - and please join the Live Chat tonight at 8pm central time. Thanks.

    What's COD

    • @ATIAutoBusiness
      @ATIAutoBusiness  6 лет назад +4

      COD is a payment term meaning Collect On Delivery - as opposed to Quick Pay (which is a check in the mail) or Billing (which means an invoice will be paid after a specified time period). COD can be Cash On Delivery or Check On Delivery, but either way, the driver will be given payment at the time the car is delivered. And check usually mean Company Check - not Personal Check. Does that help?

    Hey J how do I get a BOL document, is it something I could just print out from google or what, can you explain a little more

    • @ATIAutoBusiness
      @ATIAutoBusiness  5 лет назад

      Hi, Josue. A BOL is a document where you can enter pick up and delivery information as well as mark vehicle damages before pick up to protect yourself from damage claims. I found one online here: bit.ly/32J6PLP I hope that helps.

    Does the costumer send you the dispatch sheet? I no how to call them but dont no anything past that other than to deliver the car. My dispatcher is sick so I need info asap please

    • @ATIAutoBusiness
      @ATIAutoBusiness  5 лет назад

      If you are working for the shipper directly (and they are paying you the transport fee), they will most likely just provide you with pick up and delivery information. If you are hauling for a broker or dealer (which is a third party contracted on behalf of the shipper), they should send you a 'dispatch sheet' - which will also include payment terms, etc. Does that answer your question?

      Auto Transport Intel yes , the way you log in to work, do you do it using all separate drivers log in info or you have one of your own connected to all drivers? Thank you so much

    • @ATIAutoBusiness
      @ATIAutoBusiness  6 лет назад

      You log in with your driver's accounts. In auto transport, you do not have your own accounts, but your drivers do (freight is different). In fact, you are working on behalf of your driver and you represent the driver's company. And they fill out their own paperwork. Your job is to search for loads, verify loads and make a lot of phone calls. I hope that answers your question.

    if you have a team drivers Can you have only one account in Central?

    • @ATIAutoBusiness
      @ATIAutoBusiness  6 лет назад +1

      It's one Central Dispatch account per MC authority - regardless of the number of drivers, trucks or company size. And that's why the individual owner-operator feels the most pain of the high monthly subscription. Thanks for the question.

    hey im interested in getting into car hauling im trying to figure out the cost per mile in a dually with a 5 car trailer and if it would be profitable. but i herd u say a car was .66 cent a mile how would u caculate that. is that per car or u add each car up individually and thats the total cost for basiclly your drive and entire load

    • @ATIAutoBusiness
      @ATIAutoBusiness  6 лет назад

      Hi, Mike. Great questions. The cents per mile is the loaded miles (which may or may not be your total miles) for that car. Then you would do your total calculations from there. Very important: I have heard it said that you must price insurance rates before you buy equipment so you know your bottom line expenses. Have you read my blog post Auto Transport Business Startup? www.autotransportintel.com/car-hauling-dispatcher/how-to-start-new-auto-transport-business/ Hope to see you on Tuesday Night in the live chat and I hope this info helps you. Do I need obtain any license for dispaching ?

    • @ATIAutoBusiness
      @ATIAutoBusiness  3 года назад

      Please watch this video: ruclips.net/video/0QPHOOVZ2Xw/видео.html First, you need to understand the difference between a broker, which requires a license, and a dispatcher. Broker's arrange for freight to get moved, while dispatchers work for carriers to book loads. Dispatchers even work for brokers to make phone calls and talk to carriers, but dispatchers don't arrange freight shipments with shippers. So your question is, what are you doing?

      Hey J , on central dispatch how legit are the phone numbers they put on the side as notes, saying to text or call certain person ? Can it be trusted?

    • @ATIAutoBusiness
      @ATIAutoBusiness  5 лет назад

      Of all the information posted on Central, those phone numbers are truly the best way to find the right person to talk to FAST. In fact, if you get the load booked (and delivered), save that info and build a relationship with that broker as a preferred carrier so that you get called first in the future - before the next load ever gets posted on the load board.

    Question:
    What is better Truck or Pickup?
    A Truck need 30 Litre for 100 km and a Pickup?
    And why you dont transport factory cars to the dealerships?
    Greetings from germany

    • @ATIAutoBusiness
      @ATIAutoBusiness  7 лет назад

      Guten Tag! And thanks for watching the show, Pascal. The type of truck chosen by the car hauling business is generally based on the type of trailer being used, but overall a larger dually truck like a 5500 is preferred for maximum pulling power for 3-4 car trailers. For 5 cars and over, owners are generally looking for a semi truck. And yes, miles per gallon will be a factor in the profitability of the business. Also, the car haulers I work with typically focus on hauling used cars on open trailers vs. new cars in enclosed trailers. I hope that answers your question.

      How much Diesel use a 5500 per 100 miles?

      Approximately 16-20 gallons = about 60-75 liters for 100 miles.
