Shon, there is a series of videos on You Tube called “Live at Daryl’s House”. They are live performances that Daryl does with various artists. They are unbelievable. My favorites are the session with Smokey Robinson where they do Sara Smile and Ooh Baby Baby and the ones with the O’Jays and with Cee Lo Green. They are great jam sessions. Hope you get a chance to check them out. You will love them. Thanks for your great reactions. 👏👏🥰

Sara is real. Daryl Hall had a 30 year relationship with songwriter Sara Allen. Though they did eventually break up (they were never married), they're still friends.

I’m a firm believer that for first time reactions, you should ALWAYS start with the studio version. Then, if you love the studio version, feel free to branch out to live versions. For me, this live version was kind of a miss, and pales in comparison to the studio version. At the very least you should go back and listen to the studio version on your own time, even if you don’t decide to film the reaction.
I disagree....get the passion of the artist. Studio versions highly overrated unless your talking about the auto tuned crap of today!.

"Maneater" by Hall & Oats is worth reacting to. One of their 6 #1 hits.
Sara Allen is whom the song is about. Her and her sister Janna wrote songs with Darryl. Unfortunately Janna died of leukemia at the age of 36.
You need to listen to the original version. You chose the wrong version. The original version is amazing. When they do it Live it is totally different. Go back and check out the original version. You will appreciate it so much more. Frustrating!! Wrong version. Live is way too many "ad libs". NG.

Agree with others that studio versions should be checked out first, it’s the versions that made people fall in love with songs. Can always check out the live if you love the studio. Sound quality better also in almost all cases.

Sara was Daryl's girlfriend for about 20 years before they broke up. You should check out some of their upbeat songs. I Can't Go for That. Rich Girl is great too. I think I like the studio versions but they are almost just as good live. They change things up just a little.

Hall & Oats are great! Their sound is somewhere between rock / pop / r&b all mixed together.

This is still my favorite H & O song. I prefer the studio album version , live Hall tended to over embellish with too many non needed vocal runs. And yes Shon , Sara was an actual woman. I believe she was Daryl Halls girlfriend for 20 yrs or so. They were never married and she sometimes collaborated songwriting with H & O.

Nothing against this performance, it's a GREAT one. One of my favorites. I personally always prefer a reactor does the official video, or studio, of Hall & Oates. Also, if you haven't already done it, I recommend the At Daryl's House stuff. (That is all live, and awesome)

On average most folks prefer studio versions because that's what they know and are hoping to see you enjoy the same thing, it's not a better or worse thing. It's more of I never saw them live, but sure love their material thing. For music before MTV most any "official video" is just a live, a live performance dubbed with the studio or a mixed video of live performances with dubbed music. Some live performances must be seen not just heard; popular examples are Rush "YYZ" Live in Rio, Paulo Nutini "Iron Sky" live at Abbey Road and Shoshana Bean "Make it rain" live at the Ace Hotel. The official video's are definitely the generally preferred versions of most popular songs post MTV and pretty much all songs released since the streaming age.
Daryl Hall can sing but the instruments don’t sound very good on this version. The bass line is definitely lacking here.

Daryl Hall grew up in a soul music environment. He was around bands when he was very young and really took to that style of music. They sing well together also. And they were also the highest selling duo of all time until Brooks & Dunn took that over. Ironically, they don’t really hang out at all.
