Due to not having airblast the Phlogistonator (aka the Phlog) kinda has a reputation in the community as the “brain dead attacker” stereotype attached to it. Mainly because most people who use it can’t airblast projectiles and are thus easy to kill on the approach.
Addendum to this: People who are good at the game but use the Phlog tend to use it as an ambush weapon, an Anti-push weapon, an Uber weapon, and finally, a weapon to fight people who shoot projectiles they can dodge.
Jumping back and forth can help make those projectiles easier to dodge if you can catch someone off guard.
But no matter what, everyone will talk shit about wm1, even if its their fault they died to a dumbass running to them headon
it also depends on the map. maps with lots of smaller confined spaces can make the phlog a better choice. and its also a good troll weapon you can use to melt people that think that way cause they assume you suck. lol
Unless they camp behind a corner for 30 minutes stright waiting someone to activate the crits and kill it
Ik the phlog is a "brain dead attacker" but for my experience with Phlog is stressful to find a sweet spot to taunt and then go unga bunga WM1, also its alwaise funny kill phlog taunt pyro with sticky trap or spun up heavy.
Question answering time!
5:40 - Yes, Lazy made that acronym up. That whole mini-scene is apparently styled after how things are introduced in the show Kids Next Door.
6:30 - The cooldown on Pyro's airblast is quite low - it is fast enough to match the fire rate of the rocket launcher or grenade launcher. There is no charge system. Each airblast does use a large chunk of ammo though (one tenth of the maximum ammo pool, or more on non-default flamethrowers.) Furthermore, if you "miss" an airblast, the cooldown is juuuust long enough for an attacking Soldier to get off the next rocket safely, usually.
9:30 - Technically not a question, but the delusional candy-land vision is inspired by the "Meet the Pyro" official video from Valve.
14:06 - The mechanics of overtime are as follows: The attacking team has a five-second timer to get on the objective. While on the objective, whether contested or not, the timer is reset to five seconds and frozen. While contested, the objective does not make any forward progress (basically.) The attacking team must fully complete the capture, but if they are ever absent from the objective for at least five seconds, they lose. The reason the objective went so fast here is that the amount of progress they needed to finish was TINY - you see that slightly raised platform the cart is sitting on? That's the checkpoint. The reason Pyro won the game by booping them off the point here is that it allowed forward progress for the split second they needed.
A weird mechanic with how the payload cart does it's checks means that Lazy didn't need to airblast to push it (but it was the smarter/faster option).
The check is: BLU near chart -> Move forwards -> RED near cart -> stop moving.
This means that the BLU team can move in range of the cart and then out of range repeatedly to make the cart keep moving forwards, even if RED are on top of it.
Airblast has 0.75 sec cooldown and consumes flamethrower ammo.
14:07 it was an instant cap because the cart that Lazy's team needed to push to cap the point was already inches away from it.
Note: The 0.75 cooldown on the airblast (Default Flame Thrower + Degreaser) doesn't make Pyro invincible. In game Largo more often than not you come across Pyros who are new to the game and can't airblast, or those who try to airblast before you shoot. If you time it well, you can kill them as soldiers and demos if they mess up their timing.
_Pssst_ wrong time stamp. 14:07.
14:05
No, the payload was just that close to actually capture the point.
In overtime the attacking team only gets 5 second to between touching and leaving the payload before you lose the round. That is, if the payload wasn't rolling back already from not being touched for 20 seconds, skiping overtime.
Ah ok, makes sense.
@@LargoReacts NOTE: Competitive doesn't have overtime, though I bet you learned that already from watching LazyPurple.
Finally, Pyro!
Now we wait for you to react to the latest one he got, on Demoman. (Looks like How it FEELS to play Medic will take a while for him)
"why would you forget about the airblast?"
exactly! sadly because Pyro is a easy class (no need to aim, just W+M1), a lot of Pyro players tend to just run around while spamming M1 (NGL I used to be guilty of that too)
6:37
You can put out about 2 airblasts a second, or 3 in 2 seconds.
The issue with this is that it costs 20 ammo and can be played around.
That's about 8 seconds of spamming airblast... with the Stock Flamethrower.
8:00 it cost ammo, but it is still not fast enough to counter hard spam so don't think of it as broken. It is also really harder than it looks. 14:00 no, the red team was blocking the bomb, but the bomb was just a few inches away the point. So if the red team is blown away it allows the blue team to cap that one point so they can keep pushing the bomb, that is push the payload, not capture point.
Yeah Pyro is really not the strongest class, if you play it for a few hours you will understand better.
It doesn't mean he's not strong, but he kind of just... has the tools to counter some of the strongest classes.
@@kirbyfreakyt4695 soft counter but yes.
What a Critical Hit does is that it multiply the damage by 3 ,and there is no damage Ramp-Up (The closer you are from the enemy ,the more damage you will do) or damage FallOff (The farther you are from the enemy) ,the less damage you will do .
For example ,Scout Scattergun has a damage ramp-up of 175% ,so you take the Base damage of a single pellet ,which is 6 ,and you multiply by 1.75 ,so a minimum range ,a single pellet do 10.5 damage ,there is 10 pellet ,so it can do up to 105 damage in one shot from minimum range .
Fall-Off of the Scattergun is 52.8% ,so you 6 multiplied by 0.528 ,a single pellet will do 3.168 damage at max Fall-Off .So you could theorically do 31 damage at max Fall-Off if all pellet connect ,but since your so far away ,only a maximum of 2/3 pellet will touch the enemy .
So a critical hit do not take into account the distance between you and your enemy .
So with Crit ,Scattergun can do a maximum of 180 damage in one hit if all the pellet connect .
17:52 Just FYI, that spy is using the Your Eternal Reward (Y.E.R.), a knife that allows you to instantly pick up the disguise of the enemy you just stabbed, unlike the other knives. (Spy always loses his disguise if he attacks with his knife or revolver.) This is often called out by the victim over voice chat as being "body snatched" (i.e. "body snatcher on the point!").
Thats a neat tool.
@@LargoReacts It has its ups and downs. It used to be that you couldn't use your disguise kit with it, so you'd need to get a kill to have a disguise. These days, you can use the disguise kit, but it eats up half of your cloak meter.

Airblast takes 20 of the flamethrower ammo that's it there might be a small cooldown but it mainly uses ammo
The Backburner takes 50 iirc
Oh, and in TF2, a critical hit is worth 3x damage, while a mini crit is a 35% increase in damage (caused by any weapon that causes the 'marked for death' debuff, Jarate, the Cleaner's Carbine, or the Direct Hit when the target is under the effects of explosive knockback, such as rocket jumping).
I believe the cooldown is the same time it takes for rockets and grenades to come out, so if you hit the first reflect you can hit the rest, but if you miss the first you might have to take another hit to get the timing right
The time between airblasts is slightly slower than the time between rockets, so you can't continuously spam right click.
@@wingedbluj1674 good to know man, thanks
Airblast has a very short cooldown but uses ammo, 20 by default but most weapons raise or disable it.
Yeah the big thing Pyro generally does is area denial. When the flamethrower is out a good Pyro is basically the center of a zone where the enemy can't stand or fire explosives into without taking serious damage (not that they can't overwhelm the pyro but they WILL take damage in the process.) Whether you're aggressive with Pyro is basically just a matter of whether or not you move the zone to the enemy or keep it on top of your team mates/choke points.
great reaction video as always!
I appreciate that

Love this video, I think I’ve watched it four times.
21:05
For newer players especially, the timing required to pull off a good airblast reflection is very hard and can lead people to just not use it at all since it is too hard for them to use.
Soundtrack at 5:21 is The Pillar Men Awaken from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, an anime so ridicilous and over-the-top insane that it easily matches TF2 comics is terms of ludicrosity, I would suggest you watch it for that very reason, but I don't know if it's quite your cup of tea to react to anime.
Never watched JoJo, but I have seen the meme pop up everywhere.
Yea. No. Airblast has a Cooldown and costs Ammo so it doesn't really counter Spam. And that Cart thing worked because the Cart was just inches away from the Point and Red Team Hugging the Cart makes it so it wont move so pushing Red away allowed them to cap it and extend the Clock.
This is now Pyro's perch
Lazy made up the acronym for the bit
19:47 it’s that one weapon without air blast but with the ability to do critical damage
Thanks for the video
Air blast is like status moves in Pokémon.
it consume gas/ ammo for flamthrower.
also that match objective is to push cart to the spot. cart is like 1cm from the spot it just that other team also stay near the cart so it wont move. he push them away the cart move so they win.
Airblast is something
It has a barely countdown but it uses 20 ammo and 35 in some ones and it has 200 of ammo
It pushes people away people
Can extinghuis Friends
Can deflect lv3 sentries rockets
But i can also deflect arrows
But
Snipers
Snipers are P A I N
Airblast takes some of your ammo to use, and has a 1 second cooldown
react also to the extras, he talks about lot of other important stuff
21:37 there is various sfm vids but on minecraft maps, you should watch this, they are my favorite for some reason, and i like the zumbi attacks on minecraft maps, or deathrun on minecraft maps they are bizarre but lovely.
The air blast uses the flame thrower amo as it’s an air blast of propane
Pyro is a chad+funny(when you're in his team)+successful ceo+W
There’s no overtime in Competitive Payload in TF2. That’s why.
Airblast doesn't cool down, but it eats up quite a bit of ammo
Airblast consumes ammo so the cool down is about .5 sec
15:07 that's a screenshot right there
That kids next door reference though
2:30 And also Pyro can put away fire from teammates.
Hey, largo, I can't find your meet the team vids, what's up with that?
Its one of the earliest videos I posted, Here you go: ruclips.net/video/2VSCAmZhr_o/видео.html
airblast
- very nippy timing + reaction speed required
- introduces mind games e.g. soldiers delaying shooting their rockets for way too long in order to bait the pyro
- costly if mistimed/used too much
There's no cooldown.
Nice reaction mate.
React to the Pyro extras by lazy as well, then the HIFTP Demoman.
Zeroth
5:56 That’s not a real acronym, Lazy is just referencing Kids Next Door.
Nice
Largo: "What is the cooldown on Pyro's airblast?"
Me: "Cooldown? COOLDOWN?? *HAhaHAhaHAhaHAhaHa!!!"*
Largo, TF2 was made long before online FPS's introduced garbage like *"Cooldowns"* introduced as a lazy way to balance games. (Lazy in my eyes at least. I don't appreciate having a cooldown for simple things like for example: Grenades... If I'm throwing a grenade, I expect to have a limited supply that, if I have enough at one time, I can throw with reckless abandon, for multiple explosions rather than 1 every 15 seconds. Sorry about the rant, I just REALLY dislike cooldowns as a concept...).
Pyro consumes a chunk of his ammo count for his flamethrower, per shot of each airblast.
where is Reaction?
The pyro is actually a girl some people said cus of the mumble's
Dude just play the game tf2 is FREE!
I just remembered a little... Bug... That can be abused with Pyro's flamethrower where you basically make airblast have no cool down, it looks like the Airblast and Primary swap places when the bug occurs.
This is useful if you're in a very bad position and DEWILL's friend during the Alien Mod Madness used this to great effect to keep the aliens from reaching them.
Why do I mention DEWILL? There are cosmetic sets that, if you have the right items equipped, some special stuff can occur. Like Pyro can use a set that goes along the name of 'Mercenary' that, if the Pyro meets a scout wearing the full Alien Cosmetic Set, both the Pyro and Scout will deal CRITS! to each other.
(NOTE: If a player isn't wearing the full set, the CRITS! won't occur.)
Edit: The sets are as follows, "Isolated Merc" and "Isolationist Pack". They were made to promote Alien: Isolation, hence the names.
Pyro is the most hated class in the entire tf2, cuz he can instantly critical hit with his weapons, w+m1 too powerfull at close range, you dying really fast, and the most annoying weapons... Scorch shot and Phlog... Crits and VERY BIG blast damage (Scorch hits the ground and then explodes, causing fire damage) make them the torture weapon for players.
