It’s not about hands-free. It’s about distracted attention causing delayed reaction time. Your brain needs to only focus on driving while driving to do it safely.
@@DaoibhéarAssuming the passengers have sense, it's a lot easier to momentarily pause the conversation at a junction or whatever if they're actually in the car with you - they can see the distraction themselves, and they don't need to ask if you've hung up if you don't speak for a few seconds.
One of the more difficult tasks to learn in pilot training is carrying on conversations with air traffic controllers while flying the plane and looking for traffic and making sure you're on course. In fact, you're drilled to "aviate, navigate, communicate" in that order. Keep the plane in stable flight (aviate), make sure you're going where others expect you to go (navigate), and with whatever brain cells are left, talk on the radio. I can say that pilots will have an easier time handling the workload of talking on the phone while driving, thanks to that training.
I wonder if they did studies on having babies/children in the car. I definitely would be safer taking a call than having a screaming baby in the back 😅
Ask a passenger to navigate your phone and hold it up to your ear or put it on speakerphone for you to talk on- worked for my family throughout my childhood, whoever rode shotgun had to be the driver's secretary 😂
During my childhood, the idea of a phone in a car was so outlandish we never gave it a thought. Tbh, the idea of having a car of our own was a dream for most of my childhood....
They recently outlawed using hand-held devices where I live. My car is 21 years old and doesn't have Bluetooth, so literally the only way I can talk on the phone while in my vehicle is to pull over and stop.
You can get bluetooth earpieces. My car is so old it has a factory fitted cassette player, so I bought an earpiece. Almost never get a call anyway, but the tech is there...

And I bet his now wife just *loved* hearing how her husband answered a call to an old flame on his wedding day! I hope for everyone's sake she changed the names 😂
Yeah like she "didn't know it was his wedding day!" Because she never stalked him up on fb or anything and of course ladies delete ex numbers don't they? She knew what she was doing, and why tell everyone on national TV?
So you cant have a hands free chat because its like having 3 pints but its legal to have 4 people in your car all talking over each other and you, i must be rat arsed when that happens
Why does she still have the number of a random guy she slept with 10 years ago?? That's weird af. Also, i wouldnt call him her ex by the sounds of it. Just a fling.
I don't understand how there's a difference between being on speaker phone in a car and having a passenger? Is having a passenger that you're chatting with the equivalent of three pints? I know provisionary driver have a limit to the number of passengers
Part of the reason is that the passenger is in the car with the driver, and can be aware of the surroundings, and so can (a) provide additional/compensatory situational awareness and (b) modulate the conversation in response to the amount of attention required for driving (e.g. talking while on a freeway but pausing the conversation when dealing with an intersection or the like). There has actually been some research that demonstrates this, though I don't recall the details.
Talking with your passenger can be distracting. A key difference is that passengers are aware of the surroundings to Basically don’t make or take calls whilst driving. It’s literally in the Highway Code
There's people who can drive and talk on aphone, then those that never should be allowed near a car. Unfortunatly to many of the second category has somehow ended up with a driving license 🙄

By this logic, we should ban radios and passengers in cars

I should think Apache gunship pilots could probably safely do a crossword while driving....
In conclusion, don't call while driving, you might call someone you slept with 10 years ago.
and on their wedding day
They both got it wrong. Safest way is to (SAFELY!) pull off to the side of the road (or somewhere you can park) and then make the call.
They are both wrong? Who? Joe is telling the truth, don't take the call.
That's hilarious! 😂 You approached this as if it really was a _serious road safety discussion._ Very clever - well played. 👏
But your ALSO wrong... Pulling over and and stopping is being parked it is NOT driving 😏😂 it's not possible, to drive safely whilst on the phone.
@@goo-r1k Ah but also YOU are wrong as the question was what is the SAFEST way and not how to do it SAFELY.
Not making the call while driving is not the opposite of what you said.
